Adobe InDesign classroom in a book

HEllo, just purchased Adobe InDesign classroom in a book and can't seem to find the lesson files for the textbook. Any suggestions? I've registered the book on peachpit.com as instructed.

Each version of Adobe products builds upon the previous ones.  Some things like filters and advanced features may evolve or become deprecated over time, but the basic tools have remained pretty much the same for decades.  As long as you know there are subtle differences between versions, I think you will still get a great deal of value from C in a B for CS6.

  • Adobe Illustrator classroom in a book CD

Does anybody have a copy of Adobe Illustrator Classroom in a book CD please?
I have looked on ebay and they only sell copies with the books?
If anyone can transfer the files over to me I can pay a couple of quid for their bother. Or if they know how i can get hold of the files?
    Thanks

Well, you could just buy the book or sign up for the matching course on Lynda.com? No offense, but you are asking people to breach a license agreement and provide the files outside of the intended use... Is the concept of educators needing to make a living and tuition in whatever form sometimes costing money that alien to you?

  • I have completed the tutorial Adobe LR5 Classroom in a Book.  I have a MacBook Pro.  Every photo that I import from either my hard drive or the tutorial has red where white should be.  What in the world am I doing?

I have installed LR5 on my MacBook Pro.  I have completed a book that had online tutorials called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 Classroom in a Book.  All of my photos that are in my tutorial and the ones that I have imported from my hard drive have red on them where white should be.  I see this immediately when switching from Library to Develop before I do anything to the photo except import it.  I would appreciate any tips!

You are seeing red because that is the color of the clipping indicator. It is indicating that the whites are being clipped. You can turn off the clipping indicator by clicking on the little square in the upper right-hand corner of the histogram. Or you can adjust your highlights, whites and exposure until the red disappears. If you see blue on your photos that is indicating that the shadows are being clipped, and that is controlled by the little square in the upper left-hand corner of the histogram.
As a side note, you can activate or deactivate both clipping indicators by simply pressing the J key while in the develop module.

  • Adobe LR4 Classroom in a Book on sale for $10 this week

If this has already been posted, I apologize.
Adobe Press put the LR4 Classroom in a Book on its Weekly Special.  It really is $10, because they are not charging for freight.  The book is normally $40.
As a bonus, at the end of the purchase price, is a link to 3 eBook formats.  I elected to download the .pdf because it will be a great searchable reference.

Okay, that worked. Now, were you able to download the Lesson Files? As per Page 369 (or maybe it's 386).
The print version of this Title comes with a disc of lesson files, As an eBook reader, you have access to these files by folowing the steps below:
    1. On your PC or Mac, open a web browser and go to this URL:
    www.peachpit.com/ebookfiles/0132945673
2, Download the ZIP file (or files) from the web site to your hard drive.

  • When I add text to my CS5 InDesign Classroom In a Book document, the graphic disappears. (Lesson 3)

As soon as I add the threaded text, the graphic at the bottom of the right hand page vanishes. The book mentions nothing about this. Help! I'm trying to teach myself this program and don't want to move forward until I know the solution to this problem. Anybody? Please? (Thank you for any wisdom you may be able to offer.)

I dug out my CIB and took a look at lesson 3 (I used to use the CIB as a text in my classes so I know some of the problems you're likely to encounter).
On page 69 there are instructions to create a frame on the bottom of the right-hand master page and that's the frame that the image should be placed into (and it shold have text wrap applied). It's typical of the CIB that this frame doesn't appear in the illustrations on pages 73 or 75.
On page 73 you added a text frame on the right page, and that frame, for no really good reason extends across the previously created image frame. They do this in the lesson to show you how text wrap works, but in the real world it would be much better in a template situation like this to to simply stop the text frame at the top of the image frame since your text will never use the bottom portion anyway the way this particular page is laid out.
In any case, I suspect what happened was that when you placed the image of the fellow on the jet ski you somehow failed to place it in the image frame from the master page. This would have been a relatively easy mistake to make as the only area of the frame that would accept the image is the part that is not covered by the text frame. I can't tell for sure exactly what happened without seeing the file at the point of failure, however, and I quite honestly don't understand why the image would have disappeared unless, as Michael suggests, you had an active text cursor and place the image inline. This seems unlikely, given the instructions in the lesson, and I would have expected an inline image to appear at the start of the thread in the text frames, not at the end, so I don't think this is really what happened.
One general principle you need to know when placing content into existing frames is you want to click in a clear space inside the frame, not on or near any guides or the frame edges. It doesn't matter where you click, as long as it is inside the frame area -- the frame will fill, or in the case of threaded tex frames the thread will fill from the beginning regardless of where in the thread you click (part of the point of this lesson). Neither the book, nor any documentation I've seen, ever mentions that clicking on a guide, even if it is inside the frame area, will abort the placement into the frame and will instead create a new frame at the point where you clicked. You can tell what is going to happen by watching the cursor closely. If it looks like it has a hard corner in the upper left, it will create a frame, if it seems to be surrounded by parentheses it will use the empty frame you are hovered over.  And, of course, if there are two overlapping frames, you must be sure which one you are using -- if you click in an area of overlap, the top frame will be used.

  • Can you use Adobe Illustrator CS4 Classroom in a book tutorials(on CD rom) without buying the software?

I recently purchased Adobe Illustrator Classroom In a book CS4, and am having trouble getting to the lessons through the CD-rom which came with the book. My question is do I need to purchase the Illustrator CS4 product to use the tutorials/lessons? I would REALLY appreciate some help, it's needed for a college credit for a design major. Thank you!!

There's the trial version that you can download from adoble.com.  I think it's good for 30 days.  Other than that, doesn't your school have a computer lab?
There's no way to open the files and work with them other than in a copy of Illustrator.  You might be able to open them in inkscape (free) or Freehand (no longer available) but then what are you learning?  Not Illustrator...
[edit]  You should be able to get most of the lessons done in an older version of Illy though, which might be more affordable (if you can find them for sale)

  • Unknown File Type for Adobe Classroom in a Book Fireworks

I am trying to open sand_river1.jpg cited on p. 74 of Adobe Fireworks Classroom in a Book and am getting a "Could not open file" and "unknown file type" despite the fact that the image is displaying as a thumbnail in the file browser.  I get the message on both Windows and Mac Fireworks CS6.  Is it possible these publication assets were not part of Adobe's QA regression?  Anyway:
    - I'd rather not try to fix this myself since it's an Adobe product and I can wait.
    - has this problem been corrected?
    - is there an errata site for the book?  When I search on Google I am just sent to Amazon and bittorrent.
    thanks

A quick Google search for that file name confirmed the issue here, and a fixed version for chapter 4 can be downloaded at http://www.jimbabbage.ca/_files/ch4files.zip

  • CS5 Classroom In A Book Errors

I'm learning some Dreamweaver through Adobe Press' Classroom In A Book and finding some pretty bad errors in it's editing. It's tough to then know if any problems I'm having with the program are related to my own mistakes, or if it's just another typo or error in the book.
That being said, when creating a new CSS style, what's the difference between a <#style> and a <.style>
I know the # is an ID reference, but what happens if Dw makes and uses the .style instead. The book shows a #style in it's illustration but when i follow the directions my Dw is automatically entering it as .style.
My mistake somewhere? Or is it another error from the book? How does this book make it to print will all the discrepancies from screen to what the book is showing? If you've picked up this book you'll know what I'm talking about.
    Thanks.

I have never seen the <#style>, and did not see any reference to it at http://www.w3schools.com/
    However if you have
#style, then you are correct, it used to identify an ID
    When you have
.style, it is used to identify a class
Class and Id's are similar, however only one ID can be used on a page, while you can use as many of the same class on one page as you like.

  • Flash--Classroom in a book

I'm trying to learn Flash by using the Adobe Flash "Classroom
in a Book" and I'm stumped. The book is telling me to draw two
overlapping rectangles for masking but every time that I do it
doesn't come out right. If I use only one, things are fine, until I
need to 'free transform". I don't like asking questions but I've
got 7 hours into this chapter and I can't seem to make the tooling
    work for me.
Anyone familiar with the book would be most appreciated. :)

Try to break apart the mask object. Select the image on layer
    Mask and CTRL B.
Do it to all the masks. You are drawing shapes with the
"Object Drawing" option set ON, which should work w/o
problem on a mask layer but in your case seem this is what
cause the problem. After breaking apart each of the
objects, everything seem to work fine.
The option of "drawing object" can be easily turn on or off.
Select rectangle drawing tool and you will see
little icon down the tool bar. Second last, a circle within a
square shape. If you turn it off, your shapes
won't be grouped anymore while drawing and using this option
for drawing mask made the file works - in your case.
Tho take note, with this option set off, the shapes will
merge once you overlap them. They will become one.

  • Photoshop CS6 - question about 'Classroom In A Book' Lesson 4

I am teaching myself Photoshop CS6 using Adobe's "Classroom in a Book." In Lesson 4, I am supposed to be able to open the Satin Layer Style from within the Drop Shadow Style Layer. It does not work!!! When I click the Satin check box, nothing happens.
Is the book wrong or am I doing something wrong?

I will start with Item 10.
    10. ”Select the Flower layer and choose Layer>Layer style>Drop Shadow. Then change the following settings in the Structure area:
         Opacity: 60%
         Distance: 13px
         Spread: 9%
Make sure Use Global Light is selected and the Blend Mode is Multiply. Do not click OK.”
(My note: there is a picture of how the Drop Shadow Layer Style screen should look.)
    11. "With the Layer Style dialogue box still open, select Satin on the left. Then make sure Invert is selected, and apply the following settings:
Color (next to Blend Mode): Fuchsia (choose a color that compliments the flower color.
         Opacity: 20%
         Distance: 22px”
(My note: There is picture of the Satin Layer Style Screen should look.)
12 “Click OK to apply both layer styles."
(My note: When I click Satin in step 11, nothing happens. In fact clicking on any box in the left column of the Drop Shadow Style Layer does nothing!)
