Adobe Indesign Cs5.5 to Indesign CS6

We have a site license for Adobe Indesign Cs5.5 for 200+ seats running on 10 terminal servers. It took us about a month to test/tweak/modify Indesign CS5.5 to accommodate our workflow. We would like to upgrade to InDesign CS6, but here is my problem, I have Indesign CS5.5 on my PC as testing and when I installed Indesign CS6, it kept CS5.5 and of course it did a fresh install of CS6, and so we would have to go though about 2-3 weeks to again  test/tweak/modify CS6 to accommodate our workflow…..
My question is, is their just and upgrade installer from Indesign CS5.5 to CS6 where it keeps all of our current modifications?

That's humbug. Buying a newer version doesn't entitle you to use older versions nor is it technically possible since it would keep Adobe busy all day issuing extra legacy serial numbers.

  • Adobe InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 keep crashing

InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 keeps crashing while working on the documents. It's hard to identify the patteren when it's crashes. I deleted the SING/DataStore. Used FontNuke to clear all font caches but none of those helps. CS 5.5 and CS6 are installed on different macs but both crash.
    CS5.5 crash data: http://pastebin.com/5PAx08tc
    CS6 crash data:  http://pastebin.com/dZP09DwP
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not an expert in reading crash reports, though I do recognze a few of the more common ones (which this is not).  You read them from the top down, so the fisrt line in the crashed thread is the last thing it was doing before the crash. In the case of the CS6 crash you posted, the fisrts 8 lines of thread 0 are Apple code calls, and the last thing that was happening in ID had to do withteh Object Widget Library (I think that's what OWL stands for).
John Hawkinson is our real expert in this, but he doesn't come around this forum that much these days. You can gain some insight into reading the reports at Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets

  • Upgrade only Indesign CS5.5 to CS6 (instead of whole Design Premium)

    Hi,
is it possible to upgrade only my Indesign CS5.5 to CS6, instead of upgrading my whole Design Premium Suite?
I purchased the indesign-upgrade, but now I can't install it.
    thanks!

you should contact adobe support.  if anyone can help you upgrade from a suite to an individual producet, then can.
i don't believe they will be able to do that in which case you'll probably need to contact them about a refund.
so, in either case, contact adobe support:  http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html

  • InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 Breachballs

    I'm running OS-10.7.4 on a 2011 MBP.
About every 3rd time I try to open a document created in a previous version of InDsign I can the endless spinning breachball.
Force quit works but then, I must re-launch holding down shift key to tried to prevent InDesign form restoring from back up which alway causes a freeze.
Is there anyway to stop InDesign from trying to restore.
Or is that the fix for the unstable nature on InDesign CS5.5 and CS6?

  • InDesign CS5.5 to CS6 bug involving Tables

    Hello
I am having issues when editing files that were created in InDesign CS5.5 with CS6, most specifically with Tables.
When I open a file created in CS5.5 with CS6 some of the tables are corrupted. When I try to edit the content in the corrupt tables or even resize the text frame, the table and all content below become overset. Even adding a single character causes overset. (the text frame and table cells are large enough to accommodate the changes)
I can edit the file in CS5.5 without any issues.
Saving the file as .idml doesn't fix the problem. When I do this and open the .idml in CS6 the corrupted tables have already shifted and caused an overset before I make any edits.
    I've also tried:
    - deleting all paragraph, character, and table styles
    - pasting the content into a new file
The only way that fixed the problem was merging the table rows, but with the content we have this is definitely not ideal. The file is a multi page application form and we have more than one hundred similar files.
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.
    -kvan

With every version there are changes to the text engine that affect composition. When you open a legacy file the changes are not made until you touch the text in some way. When you open a .idml file the changes are made at opening.

  • I am upgrading form Adobe Premiere CS5.5 to CS6 but its says a qualifying product could not be found

I am upgrading form Adobe Premiere CS5.5 to CS6 but its says a qualifying product could not be found

Did you first enter your Creative Suite 6 serial number followed by your Creative Suite 5.5 serial number for Adobe Premiere?  Is Adobe Premiere CS5.5 a upgrade version as well?  If so what did you upgrade from?

  • InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 Hang while opening document

    hello,
    I have the following problem:
Indesign CS5.5 CS6 and hang up several times a day when opening documents on. the user can not make more in the program and must kill the process. After reopening the document opens without problems (probably the recovery file). I have tried all known solutions (delete Preferences, user with admin privileges, delete caches, safe boot, ...)
here a hang report, which meanwhile has been created.

  • I can't open InDesign CS5 file in CS6

I created a document at work in CS5. I saved it as an INDD file and transferred it so I could work on it at home. However I have CS6 and whenever I try to open this file, my InDesign loads to about 80% and then just freezes. I can't do or click anything. It never crashes, just gets to the point where I have to ctrl+alt+dlt each time.
    I am using a Windows 7 computer.
I need to finish this for tomorrow and I don't have access to InDesign CS5 at all to make it an IDML file or fix any fonts.
    What do I do?

Try open as a copy, and/or the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

  • Using an indesign CS5 script in CS6

Is there a way to use a .jsxbin script that works in Indesign CS5 and 5.5 in CS6? I think in previous versions of Indesign you could place older scripts in a specific folder to get them to work, is there a similar setup for CS6?
    Thanks

    Thank you, Scott;
I'll give this a try when I return to class on Thursday.  I am puzzled that other InD CS5 files have opened in CS4 after a message that "some data may be lost" - which I have clicked "OK", edited the file and emailed it back to school to open in CS5.  Oh, well, if this works I'll use it on all the CS5 files that I create in class.
    I appreciate your email.

  • InDesign CS5 and inCopy CS6 workflow problem

I've looked at other discussions and haven't found any to answer the question to our problem.
We are a small publishing company and we have license for roughly 7 inDesign CS5 copies that we purchased a year ago.  We contract with outside editors to edit content for us using inCopy.  For a year there hasn't been any problems.  But any new contracted editor we now sign, which in turn purchases inCopy, we are having trouble with our files talking to one another.  Any new contracted editors are only able to purchase CS6 inCopy.  This leaves us with the problem of having inDesign CS5 on about 7 or so of our employees machines and 6-8 CS 5.5 InCopy on outside contracted editors and an additional 3-4 contracted editors with CS6 inCopy.  When the editors with CS6 inCopy try to open files from our InDesign CS5, either they won’t open at all, or they will open, the editor works on the project for awhile, their program crashes and they are not able to recover (re-open) the files again.  Which results in hours of lost work.
Has anyone else come across this problem?  Is there a work around or a quick fix.  We would hate to have to upgrade to CS6 for all of our in house copies of InDesign and then ask our outside editors what do have inCopy cs5.5 to upgrade to CS6.
If this is the case, when CS7 comes out, and we hire additional outside editors, will we continuously have to go through the process of upgrades again?  This is too costly for use and our existing contracted editors.
Any thoughts are assistance would be appreciated.
This is one of the error messages received from an outside contracted editor using inCopy CS6.  The file crashed after several hours of work, when the editor went to reopen the file, they received this error.  Which looks to be a generic error code that doesn't tell us anything.

    Hi Ruffus,
Unfortunately different versions of InDesign and InCopy do not work well with each other. Newer versions of the program should be able to open older files, but they cannot save backwards. I am not sure what is causing the errors with the newer versions of InCopy however.
Are you able to open the CS6 InCopy files on your computers?

  • Can I install a trial of InDesign CS5 instead of CS6?

I'm having trouble finding a 30-day trial of InDesign CS5. I need to download it for a class, and the computers in our class only have CS5.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 upgrade to CS6 issue

    Hi there,
I have just upgraded my Photoshop CS5 to Photoshop CS6 but when I enter my serial number for my current version of Photoshop, I get an error message saying my serial number is incorrect.  Am I doing something wrong?  Appreciate any help at all.

Wow, I hadn't realized Adobe was going to keep the upgrade offer from Photoshop CS5 12.x to CS6 13.0 open after Photoshop CC 14.0 was released.

  • Changing my indesign cs5 to indesign cs5 ME

I just download the Indesign CS5 and it seems that the RTL (right to left) not supported in this version. what can i do to convert my version to the ME version? or i need to reinstall? and if i reinstall to ME can i use the same serial?
please tell me what to do... i cant work with out RTL
    the best
hope to here from you soon

The info on my website is a bit out of date. Like Peter eluded to, we are redoing our website. The new website will have much less focus on on-line sales of ME software. Selling ME software online has not proven to be the most lucrative of ventures...
Interestingly enough, the fact that the website still lists CS4 has brought a number of inquiries of people looking for specifically CS4. Very few people seem to know how to go about getting a downgrade...
I generally recommend people to get World Tools instead of the ME version for a couple of reasons:
Price: It's usually cheaper to get World Tools than the ME version.
Updates: The Roman version gets updated much sooner than the ME version. The ME version is almost always 2 dot updates behind...
There are a couple of reasons why the ME version is preferable:
Suites: If you need ME in Illustrator and Photoshop, You'll need the Me suite.
Story Editor: If you use the story editor, and need it for r-t-l text, you'll want the ME version, because r-t-l text appears backwards in the story editor in the Roman version even with World Tools installed.
The CS5 version of World Tools is very well integrated into InDesign, so in terms of the UI there's not much advantage to the ME version.
If you already have CS5, you'd want to think twice about the ME version, because you will need to pay the full price to get it because there's no CS5 to CS5 upgrade. It's kind of odd, but you can get an upgrade from CS4 to CS5ME, but not from CS5 to CS5ME...
FWIW, We offer a guarantee: if someone purchases World Tools and then decides it's not what they need, that we'll credit the full price of World Tools towards an ME purchase. We've been selling World Tools for more than a year, and no one has ever taken us up on the offer...

  • How to update indesign cs5.5 to cs6?????

I have cs5.5 installed already, but I need cs6. How do I update? How come adobe never updates my software?

If you want to upgrade to CS6 you need to purchase it.  Upgrades and updates are different things.  CS5.5 is a different version entirely from CS6... CS6 is not an update for CS5.5.  Chances are you have already received any upgrades for CS5.5 unless you inhibit them.
    Purchase CS6 products:

  • How do you transfer InDesign CS5 prefs to CS6?

Just upgraded to CS6 and want to get all of my creative suite prefs over from CS5.  Possible?

Should work if you fillow the directions for backing up your prefs here: Replace Your Preferences
Instead of replacing waht you have in CS5, paste the files/ folders into the same locations in CS6.
