Adobe Lens Profile Creator Crashes with DNG files

Hi, I'm using Win 7 with the latest version of the Adobe Lens Profile Creator, v 1.0.4. I have no issues generating profiles from jpeg or tiff files, but every time I try to add a DNG file, I get a "Adobe Lens Profile Creator has stopped working..." error message. The DNG files were created from a Canon 5D Mk II .CR2, using the latest DNR converter 7.3.
The crash information from Windows Reliability Monitor goes:

Really appreciate any help to solve this issue, so I can continue to create raw lens profiles. Thanks!

create an jpg/tif – profile
create a copy from the lcp
rename this copy with “ – RAW”
open this lcp with an editor
search any “False” and rename it to “True”
save it and you have a perfect raw - lensprofile
Ok, but what does it mean rename and correct the content of the lcp file?
It remains a profile created from jpg source, CameraRaw could consider it like a raw lens profile but it has no more value than a jpg profile, I believe...
Anyway, for whatelse it could be useful your suggestion to modify lcp file?

  • 'Adobe Lens Profile Creator, SONY-SRF-Files in DNG konvertieren leider nicht möglich'

    Hallo

  • Adobe Lens Profile Creator - ERROR (Detect corners failed because file reading errors ocurred)

    1) I have successfully created a lens profile for a Nikon AF Micro Nikkor 40mm 2.8 lens used in a Nikon D5200 Camera. For this I converted the raw .nef files to .DNG first using Adobe's DNG Converter.
    2) When trying to create another lens profile using the EXACT SAME .DNG files as posted in 1), I am no longer able to create a lens profile because of the message "Detect corners failed because file reading errors ocurred". I am also unable to create any other lens profile using different photos.
    3) I have also tried using a fresh install of Adobe Lens Profile Creator in another mac and I get the exact same error.
    4) I AM ABLE to create a lens profile if I use .jpg files (generated from the same raw .nef files as mentioned) but this doesn't help because then the profiles don't show up when trying to open a raw file in Adobe Camera Raw.
Please help as this is exasperating.
    Thank you.

Thanks! I had the same error message in Adobe Lens Profile Creator 1.0.4 for OSX and I found the problem to be the letter ö in the folder name for the DNGs. The lens is an old ISCO-Göttingen and the progress stopped at 2% with the mentioned error message. Changed the folder name and now it works!

  • Should I bother with the Adobe Lens Profile Creator?

I am concentrating mostly on architectural photography these days and I need a pep talk about the "Adobe Lens Profile Creator". The process seems laborious and error prone -  in other words it could end up being a waste of time and money (for the printing of the calibration charts). Has anyone used it to good effect? And with what lenses?
I do the bulk of my work with the 24mm PC-E Nikkor f/3.5 lens and I also use two older lenses  - the 28mm PC Nikkor f/3.5 and (my favorite) the 15mm Nikkor f/3.5. All three lenses suffer from a small amount of barrel distortion and chromatic aberration so some correction is usually needed.
I have two specific reservations about the lens profiling process -
    1. It came out with Photoshop CS5. Since then the manual controls have increased in sophistication. Can't I get pretty much the same result using the manual adjustments?
    2. In my drop-down menu in Adobe Camera Raw CC there are eighty-one lenses listed - but not the three I am using! This is crazy and reflects badly on the people who designed the whole process. Who cares about perspective correction in a 600mm lens?
Anyway, I would appreciate a reply from anyone who has gone through the profiling process. Thanks.

I am also having problems trying to install Lens Profile Downloader 1.0.1. I receive the following error message:
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance.
I updated to the latest version of Adobe Air, I uninstalled the previous (1.0) version of Lens Profile Downloader (dragged it to the trash and emptied the trash), and I rebooted my Mac. I have tried downloading the file and rebooting my Mac several times and get the same error message every time. Any other suggestions?

  • Lens Profile Creator crashes on startup

I have a very weird problem.
I have a Mac Pro, OS X 10.6.4, very healthy, passed all the hardware tests etc. The problem is the LPC keeps crashing on startup.
I redownloaded it and tried everything I could think of.. still it keeps on crashing. Now I just formatted the Mac, I have a brand new drive, and guess what, it still crashes on start up.
    Anyone have a clue why?

Thanks for the report. We'll investigate the issue. Could you think of any special software/hardware setup that you have on the machine?

    Hi Simon.
I found the reason for this crashing. Where can I submit this bug report?
    It's weird but it's repeatable:
It's a 2008 Mac Pro with OS X 10.6.4 installed. I have two displays (Dell UltraSharp 2408) - one in landscape and one in portrait mode. In system prefs I usually move the dock and menu bar to the portrait display on the right (by default it's on the landscape display). This is what crashing LPC. When I move the dock and menu bar back to the landscape display, it won't crash. it's the same on both my computers.
I tried it several times now and it is 100% repeatable.

  • Adobe Lens profile Creator

Hello all. I downloaded the Adobe Lens Profile Creator to create a profile for the lens of my camera (canon powershot SX40 HS using CHDK), but I am not able to unzip the zip file program. Updated the winrar and even then it still fails. Can anyone help me? Do any of you have a profile for lenses canon powershot SX40 HS?

After downloading the Adobe Lens Profile Creator and decompress, creates the folder: Adobe Lens Profile Creator 1.0
Inside the folder are the following files:
    calibration charts
    documentation
    sample images
    Adobe Lens Profile Creator.exe
    cv100.dll
    cxcore100.dll
    libifcoremd.dll
    libifportmd.dll
    libmmd.dll
So, I double click the file: Adobe Lens Profile Creator.exe

  • DXO Labs Slams Adobe Lens Profile Creator

    Pubicly.  Check it out here;

See: DXO Labs Slams Adobes Lens Corrections
This is what I responded the first and second response...
"says Cyrille de La Chesnais, Sales and Marketing Director - Photography at DxO Labs" Uh, ok...so I'm sure HE has an advanced degree IN MARKETING maybe...
The moment that a marketing guy starts talking smack is just about the time to quit listening...
I'm sure that DxO is SEETHING at the prospect that a bunch of users can go out and create profiles of their lenses for free...what does DxO cost?
It should also be noted that DxO is partially subsidized by the French military establishment (as far as I can recall).
Just as soon as Cyrille bothers to go out and actually USE Adobe Lens Profile Creator and can PROVE using acceptable scientific testing that there's an issue, I suggest Cyrille keeps his gums together...
    Then...
I've used both...I've created custom lens profiles using the Adobe Lens Profile Creator myself (and the effort, if done well is not inconsequential). I've not yet done a head to head comparison with my profile with DxO with the lens I profiled but I have closely studied the results of the Lens Correction panel in Camera Raw (in particular to write about how to do it in my book) with a variety of lenses and I gotta say, DxO does indeed have something to worry about because the profiles provided by Adobe are very good.
The lens profile I made for a Canon EF50mm F/1.2 lens is very good. I uploaded the profile I made to the Adobe Lens Profile server to share with the community (which suspect is the one thing that really galls DxO the most).
Really, let's hear from DxO's scientists not DxO's marketing guys...and let's hear from somebody who has DONE a profile using Adobe Lens Profile Creator and found severe limitations...
Oh, BTW, the guy mentions keeping the lens profile calibration target really, really flat (to profile the geometric distortion) as though that's some kind of super difficult task. Uh, no, I don't think so...Adobe suggests having the printed targets mounted on foam core and then put the mounted targets in a picture frame to keep it flat. I used a different method of mounting the targets to the front of 1/4 plate glass placed on an easel. That way I could mount multiple sized printed targets up to 36' x 48' in size.
I don't want to underestimate the amount of work involved in creating quality lens profiles. I shot a series of 5 F/stops with 3 focus distances using three different targets. Took about 5-6 hours (the first time) and that's in a studio space that's 26' x 53' with 12' ceilings with professional quality studio strobes and a photographer (me) who has 1/2 a clue what they are doing...I'm sure there will be a range in the quality of profiles for the lenses profiled by the "community". But here's the thing...that's to do lens profiles that can be automatically applied to masses of shots at once via presets or Camera Raw Defaults...but you can STILL go in and fine-tube the results from those profiles and use manual controls not only for distortion, CA and vignetting but also lens perspective correction...not sure you can even do that in DxO.
No, I'm sure DxO is trying to come up with some sort of attack/defense for their product's existence...at the moment, I suspect it sucks to be them, ya know?

  • Are mid-zoom distortions interpolated in Adobe Lens Profile Creator

    Hi!
I'm making LCP files for my two cameras. I use CHDK in my Canon PowerShots for having DNG files. I wonder, if I'm going to use three imaging sets for each camera with different zooms, let us say no-zoom, 1/2maximum, and maximum zoom, does the Lens Profile Creator calculate distortion parameters for the other zoom values as well by interpolating? I think it should do that, but I want to get a confirmation for this before adjusting thousands of photos. I have had hard times by fighting with computers lately, and I can almost sense the "oh-you-did-not-shoot-with-exact-zoom" waiting for me just behind the corner

  • Does the Lens Profile Creator work with Photoshop Elements 8.0..?

    Hello,
I am very new to the world of Photoshop, so please forgive if this is an obvious/stupid question...
I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0 and I have a couple of pictures that I need to remove the 'fish eye' lens distortion from around the edges...
The blurb for the Lens Profile Creator says that it is for use in the "Adobe Photoshop® family of products"...
Does this include Photoshop Elements 8.0 or do they really mean it is just for Photoshop CS5, Camera Raw and Photoshop Lightroom...
    Any help will be appreciated...
    Many Thanks

PSE does not have the user-interface to turn on lens-corrections, nor does the ACR 6.1 update for PSE contain the lens-profile database installer, so if PSE is the only member of the PS-family that you have installed then effectively you cannot apply lens profiles.
If a computer has the lens-profile database installed and lens-distortion-correction has been enabled in the XMP sidecar for a particular image, both requiring PS-CS5's ACR 6.1-updater or LR3 to be installed and one of those used to enable lens-corrections for the image, then PSE can use ACR 6.1 to apply a lens profile, because the version of the ACR 6.1 plug-in for PS and PSE is the same plug-in.
BTW, removing fish-eye distortion completely, which is what enabling lens-corrections does by default, will leave a rather poor looking image that has been completely rectilinearized but has severe stretching of the pixels at the edges, so only the center is useable.  With my 8mm Sigma fisheye, I reduce the Distortion part of the correction down to 44 so the black corners are gone, but there is still some bulging of the image.
If you want to experiment with lens-corrections, you could install the 30-day trial of LR3.

  • Adding a Lens Profile to lightroom from Adobe lens profile creator

Hi, I just made a lens profile from the lens profile creator for my Canon 80-200 2.8L. I then added the profile to the 1.0 folder that holds all the other lens profiles. However, lightroom does not list to profile as an option in the lens profiles. Is there something else that I need to do?

While the more recent PDF link still works, the “Lightroom Queen” has done some recent website maintenance and the URL for default locations of files is different:
    http://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/lightroom-5-default-locations/
Obviously the link I provided had my username “Steve” in it and you’d be substituting your username, instead.  Also the AppData folder is hidden so you have to either enable viewing hidden folders in Explorer or just type it into the Explorer address bar and hit Enter.
The other issue you might have, which was already talked about in the preceding discussion, is that camera profiles are specific to raw or non-raw formats and if what is in your DNG is a JPG then perhaps it wouldn’t work.
Would you mind providing the DNG and the associated camera profile via a website like dropbox.com and if you have it, the original file that was wrapped up as a DNG?

  • Updated version of Lens Profile Creator crashes

The updated version of Lens Profile Creator occasionally crashes some time after hitting the Generate Profiles button. This happens maybe 1/3 of the time. The first version does not crash. This is on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit running under Vmware with about 2 Gig of memory allocated. When it crashes the window generally just goes away with no popups or messages. Any suggestions are appreciated but the first version is working for me.
    Mark

After limited testing it seems to work OK if Windows 7 runs it in XP SP2 compatibility mode.
I will have to run it longer to be sure.

  • Does Camera Raw apply tangential corrections computed by Adobe Lens Profile Creator?

    Dear Adobe,
I have noticed that even if ALPC calculates tangential distortion parameters, camera raw does not apply any tangential correction to the images. This can be easily proved by manually changing the values of the two tangential distortion parameters in the *.lcp file. Nothing changes to the images even exagerating the values. Varying the other parameters such as radial distortion parameters and principal point location (image center) results in evident changes in the images. I am interested in using camera raw to correct the images from ditortions for scientific purposes. It would be very helpful for me if you could help me.
    Thank you in advance,
    Fabio
