Adobe Lightroom Issues

Has anyone had any issues running Adobe Lightroom v1.2 in Leopard? Most notably not allowing you to get into the print module.

Yeah, the Print module doesn't work at all for me. (v1.2)
There's the odd graphical glitch here and there, mostly in the History panel in the Develop module, but everything else seems OK.

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Adobe Lightroom, Drobo performance issue.

Setup: MacPro 2.8GHz (early 2008), 12GB ram (properly interleaved), OS 10.6.3, 4 bay FW800 Drobo
My MacPro just went through a thorough Apple Hardware Test: Clear
When I run the current version of Adobe Lightroom it has recently run extremely slow. Historically, I've put my catalog files on my Drobo; however, recently even a new empty catalog file that has virtually nothing in it seems to take substantially longer (Lightroom states times that are 10 x's longer or more!)
    Any advice?

Check Adobe's forums to see if there are any issues with Lightroom and 10.6.3.

  • Issue with past purchase of Adobe Lightroom

I purchased Adobe Lightroom 4 on 10/31/12 from the Apple Mac App Store.  I have been using the software alongside Adobe Photoshop CS6 for the past two years.  My MacBook needs to be set back to its original factory settings and I wasn't sure how to get the two Adobe programs back onto the computer once I reset it.  I contacted Adobe and they only see that I have purchased Photoshop CS6 with my member name.  I purchased Photoshop CS6 and downloaded it from Adobe's website.  I told them that I purchased Lightroom and downloaded it from Apple's Mac App store.  I even went back into my email history and found the iTunes receipt that shows the purchase with the order number from Apple.  I figure that I may not have registered the software and that may be why my member account with Adobe doesn't show I purchased Lightroom?  I cannot find the serial number for Lightroom anywhere in email or in the software itself.  It seems that Apple doesn't sell Adobe Lightroom from the App Store anymore like they once did, so to be able to download it again from Apple seems out of the question.

If Lightroom is no longer available from the Mac App Store (MAS), that was an Adobe decision to longer sell it through that distribution stream. MAS versions of apps have no serial numbers, that is an Apple requirement for a developer to sell through the MAS.
If you have a backup of your current Mac installation, you should be able to restore the MAS version of Lightroom from the backup. If not, you will need to purchase it from whomever Adobe now sells it through.

I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So even though Lightroom CC is installed, it will not launch.  What do I need to do to allow it to launch?

The problem was solved today.  Here's the full story.  I'm a Mac user.  At first I installed Lightroom CC on my iMac (desktop).  I had this problem so I called Adobe, and was referred to a "special unit" .  After about an hour the tech solved it for me ... we did a screen sharing and she took control of my computer for a loooong time.  Because of language difficulties, at first I wondered if she knew what she was doing but she eventually solved it.  Although she couldn't explain exactly what she was doing, she summarized it by saying "it was a permissions problem."  I asked if I would have the same issue later when I installed it on my laptop (Macbook Air).  She said probably not.
But I did.  The same internal error popup arose on launch and launch did not complete on my laptop.  I tried chat but no joy so I eventually called Apple Care.  I had noticed that on my laptop (and the iMac for that matter), that there was no Library folder after my user name.  The Apple tech explained that the Library folder is actually there but it is hidden because it's very easy for users to do some very nasty things to their computer by going astray while in the Library folder.  The folder is actually there, but they hide it.  I did remember seeing that the tech helping me with my iMac had typed the work "Library" while she was controlling my computer.  Basically she had activated the hidden Library folder so she could open the path that Lightroom was trying to follow to create that "Develop Presets" folder.  For some reason, the inability to create that folder in the launch process was preventing launch from being completed.  The Apple tech said she didn't actually have to do that and activated the Library folder by use of the Go selection on the menu bar.  Anyway, once that complete path was replicated and opened, the next step was to go to the Lightroom Permissions field and add my user name to the user categories already there and enable "read and write" permissions to my user name.  Once done, I shut down my laptop, and then rebooted.  I launched Lightroom and then boom, voila, heavens to betsy, etc. it launched and suddenly a dismal weekend turned into a great one.
I am not a geek, so I hope this makes some sense.  I also hope Lightroom launches again tomorrow and beyond!

  • Blocking bug with 10.8.3+Adobe Lightroom+Canon iPF5000 (but workaround found)

    Hi all,
since I have updated my MacBook Pro (early 2011 model) with 10.8.3, I have a blocking bug with Adobe Lightroom (either 4.3 or 4.4) for launching prints on my Canon iPF5000 (firmware 1.33, either MacOS driver 2.67 or 3.06, connection through USB).
When I was under 10.8.2 with the Canon's driver 3.06, everything works fine.
Basically, after clicking Print a Copy or Print... in Lightroom, the file spooled to the driver stays in MacOS printer queue. Within the printer queue window, the printer is in pause mode, and each time I try to resume the printing processing, the driver put it on hold immediately. When I look into the history on the Console, the driver complains about an unknown error... The data stay within the driver, as my Canon iPF5000 "Data" led indicator stays unlit.
My print settings are 600dpi or 300dpi, print sharpening Standard/Glossy, 16 bit output. And Color managed by printer (because I let the Canon driver managing my B&W prints).
Strangely enough, when I launch a print from Preview application, the drivers does its job and sends it successfully to my Canon iPF5000...
As this was driving me crazy, I have tried a clean install of MacOS 10.8.3 (as 10.8.2 is no more available from Apple servers...). No success, same blocking issue.
Eventually, I've found the workaround: using the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview. You have to click on "Print..." in Lightroom in order to see the driver settings window, and then check the "Preview before printing" option in the main tab of the driver settings. Then I can preview my Lightroom printing work and then launch successfully my printing.
Simple workaround, but very strange bug...
For me, the root cause could be multiple and not very obvious.
Is it Mac OS 10.8.3 ? But why can I make prints from Preview application for instance, and not from LR ?
Is it the Canon driver ? But this lead me to the same question.
Is it Lightroom ? Does it send corrupted data that make the driver crazy but not the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview ?
So, if any user of Canon iPF5000 + Mac OS 10.8 + Lightroom is around, please share your experience.
And if any Apple, Adobe or Canon engineer read this, please try to fix this.
    Happy printing,
    Amaury

It's different how applications write print data. If you use Advanced Preview from the driver then it calculates already the output which afterwards is only sent to the printer.
Have you once tried to print with fast graphic process switched off (option of advanced settings)?
    Hope it helps
    Renate

  • Adobe Lightroom Mobile

Anything Adobe has is pretty Good and from what I read this Apps that is now available on Android is one that is Very Popular..  It does however have a Cost of $9.99 and you'll have to use in conjunction with the Desktop App L-5  it sounds fun to try out..
Not sure when I'll do it but if someone already has it or is going to give it the Test Drive post on here how ya Like and if its worth the $9.99 sticker Price..
Here is the Link:  Via Droid Life  Adobe Lightroom Mobile is Now Available on Android | Droid Life

Could you try to remove the sync.lrdata file and restart LrD. This would restart/refresh the sync (metadata only).
Removing the Sync.lrdata might fix whatever the issue is. Remove the Sync.lrdata, start Lr Desktop, and then wait until it either syncs or gets stuck again and create at this point a new Lr Desktop diagnostic log which can hopefully provide some clues.
You can find the  sync.lrdata file here:
    On Mac it's at /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data/Sync.lrdata
On Win it would be at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata
You can trigger the log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button.
Please send me the LR Desktop diagnostig log  - best as a private message with a downloadable dropbox link.
    Thanks,

  • In Adobe Lightroom, the Develop module is saying "Develop module disabled. Please renew your membership to reactivate the Develop module". I bought this product at full price several months ago.

The Develop module is saying "Develop module disabled. Please renew your membership to reactivate the Develop module". I bought the product at full price several months ago and have had no problems using it until, so I am not sure what it is asking of me. I only had it on one other computer before I added it to this second computer, and I understand we get 3 copies. There should not be any issues. I need an answer ASAP.. actually pretty shocked that there is no immediate customer service that I can contact for a problem like this.

If the develop module is disabled then you have downloaded and installed Lightroom from the creative cloud. It cannot be licensed with a serial number. It requires a creative cloud subscription, and is activated and kept active with your Adobe ID and password. That version will not work on your computer and will have to be uninstalled. Then you can install from one of these two links:
Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
This will have no impact on your catalog or your images. After you install from the right website you will be able to continue where you left off.

  • Problems installing Adobe Lightroom 4

After downloading Adobe Lightroom 4 on my Windows 7 computer I get an "error reading stup initialization file" message.  I am not sure what to do now.  My computer meets all system requirements and I am logged in as the administrator.

is it best I pair the upgrade and just put another 512 MB in second slot, or can I put 1 or 2 gig in that slot and get dual channel performance?
That's a good question which often leads to a lot of debate. Most benchmarks show the effect of dual channel is minimal, probably because with most applications memory is not the bottleneck, other sub-systems like the hard drive or graphics are.
It really depends on what you're going to do with the computer: if a lot of Elements 4 work under Rosetta with many windows open etc. I think you'd be well served by going to 2GBs of RAM. If intensive use like that will be minimal, and mostly you're going to "iLife it up," e-mail, surfing, etc. then you'd probably be happy adding another 512MB. Over time as more programs go Universal the overhead imposed by Rosetta will be less & less of an issue.
When shopping be sure to check out OWC (Other World Computing) for their pricing on genuine Samsung memory (I'm not a fan of their "no name" brand). Apple uses a lot of Samsung itself, as well as Micron which you can buy from Crucial.com. Others will have their own favorites to recommend, of course.

  • Question Mark in black diamond in Safari and Adobe Lightroom

I have a problem with the “question mark in black diamond” phenomenon noted elsewhere in these forums. My problem is different in certain aspects, though, and I’ve found nothing which suggests a way forward in other threads.
I get the “? in black diamond” appearing in two contexts:
    (1) in the UI of the Web Module in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom when using the LRG One with PapPal Template (from lightroomgalleries.com), and selecting a currency symbol other than $ (i.e. when using £, EUR, or the Yen symbol)
    (2) when viewing web pages generated by the Lightroom Web Module with the PayPal template in Safari
In both these contexts, the currency symbol is displayed as “? in black diamond” in place of the "£" symbol.
The strange thing about this is that when I view the output in other browsers (I’ve tried IE5 for Mac, Camino, Firefox, OmniWeb and Opera), the “£” currency symbol shows up ok. However, it can’t just be a Safari issue, as the “?” shows up in the Lightroom Web Module interface as well.
I’ve posted a screenshot of the Lightroom interface here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/currency.html , and an example of gallery output here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/test2/index.html (click on the left-hand thumbnail to bring up the image page and check out the dropdown menu beneath the image).
Before posting here, I’ve tried various forums relating to Lightroom (Adobe Lightroom U2U, lightroomgalleries.com, luminouslandscape.com) but to no avail.
So this is a last chance post: hopefully one of the OS X experts here may be able to suggest a reason for this (is it a font issue? or something to do with UTF-8, or Safari’s default encoding? – I’m not a coder, but I really want to find the answer so I’ll try just about anything…), and maybe a way to solve it. BTW, I get the same experience on my G4 iMac and my MacPro, so I guess it’s not an Intel-specific issue.
Thanks in anticipation for any answers, or follow-up questions
    Jim

    Hi Tom
Thanks for this. I've tried previously changing the Default encoding in Safari Prefs to Western (ISO Latin 1), but found that did not help.
Following your advice I tried changing encoding from the View menu, and find that the £-sign displays correctly in both ISO Latin 1 and MacRoman (though not in UTF-8). The odd thing about this is that with Default Encoding in the Prefs set to either of those, I still get the ? until I go into the View menu and change from Default to Latin 1 or MacRoman, whereupon the £-sign shows up! Can't imagine how that can be. Tried closing and re-opening Safari after setting Pref to Roman 1, but still need to use the View menu to get the £-sign. Restaring the Mac doesn't help either.
So, Tom, with your help I now have a viable workaround, but as this is going to remain an issue for other Mac/ Safari users visiting my site, I'd like to find a way of preventing it happening. Can you suggest how it can be that Safari needs to be told twice (in Prefs and in View menu) to use ISO Latin 1 or MacRoman before it does so?
Look forward to any further comments
    Jim
(P.S.: It seems to me this must be linked to the fact that the ? shows up in the Lightroom interface, and that the fault lies with the PayPal gallery Template I'm using. So I'm wondering if there's anything you - or anyone else - can suggest that I can put to the developer of the Template which will enable him to resolve the issue - he's a Windows user, but has made one suggestion that I adapt the encoding in a file called transformer.xslt from it's default of ISO_8859-15 to UTF-8. I've tried that and tried also ISO_8859-1, but the issue persists regardless.)

  • IPhoto file container vs. Adobe Lightroom workflow

I primarily use Adobe Lightroom 3 to import and manage my digital imagery. (stills and video) There are features in iPhoto that I want to take advantage of but I have been unable to find a way to get iPhoto to accept my photos in the file structure where they reside. iPhoto insists on putting a copy of the files into it's own iPhoto container. Is there a way to force iPhoto 10 or 11 to use the file structure I maintain through Lightroom? I have been using a workaround of exporting my RAW files to a JPeg then importing that JPeg into iPhoto. When the project is done then I delete the files so I can eliminate the duplicate files on the hard drive. Is there a better way?

You can have iPhoto reference the files on disk - (The iPhoto advanced preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" has been unchecked) which is strongly NOT recommended - but this has many issues including if the path changes for any reason - human - hardware failure or upgrade - updating the referenced links is difficult to impossible - plus any edits or changes done in iPhoto are not reflected in the referenced photos - if you only use them for projects and do not go back to them this should work for you

  • Adobe Lightroom 3.4 update process

Apparently, Adobe Lightroom uses Adobe Camera RAW for raw image processing just like Photoshop, however unlike Photoshop, every time that a new camera is added or a bug fixed in Lightroom's raw image processor, Adobe released an entirely new Lightroom application update weighing in at more than 200 megabytes which I have to download and install.
Given that Adobe Photoshop uses Adobe Camera RAW as a dynamic linked library why can't Adobe Lightroom also isolate its version of Camera RAW into a dynamic library that can be updated independently of the main Lightroom application?  Doing this would make it much easier to add additional cameras to Lightroom without having to both download 200MB and install a new application. Each time I install a new Lightroom update, the install process leaves behind the directory for the old version since Adobe prefers to create minor version specific program files directories and it screws up Windows Vista/7 functions such as the Photo import dialog which now shows multiple entries for Adobe Lightroom (once for each time I updated). I can't figure out how to delete the multiple entries or which one to click on.
Now don't get me started on the basic performance of Lightroom 3.3 on anything but a recent highly spec'd laptop. On my now low-end dual core 32bit Windows 7 laptop with 3GB of RAM It takes about 8 to ten seconds *per image* to get the "loading" message to go away when an image is selected in the Develop panel. This occurs even if I continually keep switching between the same two images -- as if Lightroom is not caching anything at all even though I have enlarged my Camera RAW cache to 10GB.

Unfortunately everything is going against you. The main reason why the provide it as a single file is for several reasons:
    1) You can update from any version in one click and voila! you're done.
    2) Providing one file is less confusing for the masses and less tech support issues in regards to upgrade paths.
    3) The installation replaces every file so as to not cause any versioning issues which might arise if you are not upgrading from the previous version (yes I know there is ways around this but they're trying to make it simplistic).
    4) Helps maintain the ability to supply a demo version of the latest version plus protect their system because if you have a "dodge" copy and you're upgrading, then it's going to have a tanty at you.
And so on... there are always reasons for doing things and Adobe decided that it's just better this way for everyone involved.
With the versioning issue, this is not true. If you look inside the directory you should only find empty folders. If they are empty, then just simply remove them. If there is still files, then you have a serious problem somewhere and I'd suggest you try to do a full clean install to fix that problem. I just updated to 3.4 last night and went through to clean out the empty 3.4 RC directories. Never had an issue upgrading and I always use the RC before it goes final.
When it comes to your computer then I can only say that with a forever increasing volume of photographs being catalogued you are going to experience slowdown not to mention all the changes which you have applied to your photographs. No matter how big your cache is, you are going to be limited by sheer grunt power and disk performance.
If you want to get a performance boost then I recommend swapping out that horribly slow 5400 (or slower) rpm hard drive in the notebook and put in a SSD instead. This will give your notebook an awesome new lease on life and Lightroom will be much more responsive. If you place your catalogs onto the SSD and have separate high speed storage for your photographs then it should perform much better.
Other than that the only other option is to go to a dedicated PC or Mac for your photography needs and move on. Notebooks are really good but I've never viewed them as a platform to perform like a dedicated PC or Mac no matter how much money you throw at it.
Just be warned that a large Raw cache is a double edge knife. Too small is ineffective and Too large is only going to exacerbate your issue.
