Adobe Lightroom will not start or open

Install lightroom.  Everytime I try to open lightroom I get the following error:
Lightroom cannot create a catalog named "Ligthroom 3 Catalog" on a network volume"
Anybody have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.

The error message is telling you what is wrong from LR's point-of-view.  You have to use LR with a catalog on a locally attached hard-drive, not a network drive.  The catalog that LR is either automatically trying to open, or that you are selecting to be opened is on a network drive not a local drive.
When you start LR for the first time, or if you press the Alt key while starting LR, you should have the option to create a new catalog.  Do this and make sure the catalog location you select is on a local drive and not a network drive.  The reason for this restriction is that LR's catalog file must not be accessed by more than one person at a time and having it on a network invites this complication.  LR is licensed for a single user at a time, not a multi-user network situation.
If you have installed LR on a network-bootable workstation that has no locally-attached hard-drives then a possible option would be to attach a hard-drive via USB or Firewire and use that for the location of the catalog.  It would be slower than an internal drive, but if that's your only option, it is an option.  Of course if your workstation doesn't have a local drive and doesn’t' allow attaching drives via USB or Firewire or eSATA, then you're out of luck and need to try a different computer that has local storage available.

  • Firefox will not start and open a website from a Thunderbird email link. It will go to a link from Thunderbird once Firefox is open, but will not initially start Firefox and proceed to open the Thunderbird email link.

Firefox will not ''start'' and open a website from a Thunderbird email link. A link from Thunderbird will open once Firefox is ''already'' started, but will not initially start Firefox and proceed to open the Thunderbird email link.

I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

Thanks for your help. I had tried starting Firefox in safe-mode before I posted this request, but it did not work. I tried to restore the system to an earlier version, but that made everything worse. Two accounts were unusable and one sort of worked, so I reloaded the operating system and now firefox works, for how long, I don't know. But thanks again for your suggestion.

  • Adobe reader will not start

I have a Windows 7 Laptop, 64 bits. Suddenly adobe reader will not function; it starts, a black field appears, and it vanishes.
Everything tried: erase program, reinstall, PC back to factory installation. Nothing helps. Any other suggestions?

The End User License Agreement "sticks" in Windows 7 frequently.
    Go to: C:/Programs (x86)/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
Look for the file named eula.exe (or just eula)
Double click it. Accept the agreement.
    Launch Reader.

  • Firefox will not start or open at all

I have been using Firefox on a PC with Windows Vista 64-bit OS, but suddenly Firefox will not even open up on this PC. I have uninstalled and re-installed FF (different versions of it such as 24, 27, 30 & 32), but nothing seems to work. Restarting my PC does not help either. I have read several of the articles on Mozilla Support (including "Firefox Won't Start, Find Solution") and some of them say it could be due to a problem with my Profile or Add-ons or Plug-ins. If I am supposed to fix one of those issues, the problem is that I cannot even open Firefox (not even in Safe Mode) to get into those selections.
I like Firefox more than IE or Chrome, and would appreciate anyone's help to fix this problem.

FredMcD, thanks again for taking the time to help. I changed the "Connection Settings" to "No proxy," and then upgraded to FF 32.0, but it did not open up. So I am back to 24.0. If you have other ideas, I am willing to try it out so that I can upgrade to the latest FF version.
On a different Firefox topic, I imported my "Favorites" list from IE to FF, and I do see them when I go through the "Bookmarks" tab on the very top of the screen. Then under "View" tab, I have selected "Bookmarks Toolbar" which places a direct link called "From Internet Explorer" a couple of lines below the main toolbar (my idea is to save a few clicks if I want to go to my IE Favorites. However, when I click on that direct link, I only see 3 entries ("Customize links"; "Suggested sites" and "Web Slice gallery," but I do not see the many entries that should be there from my IE Favorites list. The strange thing is that until a few days ago I used to see all my IE Favorites when I clicked on this direct link! What should I do?

  • Adobe Lightroom Will Not Run.....Help

I am trying to run the Windows XP version of Adobe Lightroom 1.0 on a Pentium 4 system with 1.5GB or RAM that meets all the system requirements. After installation the title screen comes up and then gives the error message Adobe Photoshop Lightroom encounted an error and needs to close. The error signature says it is Lightroom.exe ModName: substrate.dll Offset: 0003e413 after which it will close down. I would really like to try this program out and am getting no such luck. This happed with the beta versions as well as the final version.
I have tried to cover all the bases, including uninstalling and reinstalling, even removing the image database thinking maybe that is what is crashes. If anyone has an suggestions I would really appreciate as this sound like exactly what I am looking for.
    Thanks,
    Travis

I did check that site last night but it didn't have anything that helped. I think I may have tracked it down though. I started shutting down programs on the task bar and tried running Lightroom. After a little while it started working without a glitch. I rebooted, and low and behold the error was back. Come to find out, it was somehow incompatible with Super Screen Capture Pro. Once I turned that off, no problems. At least for now. I will have to keep testing to be 100% sure, but it seems ok with that closed. Thought I would pass this along maybe it may help someone else.

  • Adobe Indesign will not start-Runtime Error

    Hi,
I recently bought Creative Suites Design Premium CS5 and I am having a problem with indesign. The program will not launch. This message shows up The application has requested the Runtime to terimate in unusual way. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am using Windows XP-32 bit, and  service pack 3.
    Thanks for the help,
    Athena

Uninstalling InDesign and then installing InDesign should fix the problem.

  • Lightroom will not start!

I just installed a trial version of Lightroom 4 for Mac today. But when I went to start it up, partways through the startup it stopped and a small window popped up that says: "This Beta version of Lightroom has expired. The application will now quit." What is going on?? I tried a couple more times to start it up again, but it just does the same thing. What is wrong with it, and can/how do I fix it??

It means what it says - it's an expired pre-release. Download the correct retail version from Adobe directly.

  • Adobe Professional Will Not Start

    Good evening,
I had Adobe Professional 7.0 installed on my computer. A malware forced me to scrap the hard drive and replace it with a new one. After reinstalling Adobe Professional 7.0 Tryout (I have the activation code that I purchased after downloading the program about 3 years ago) I cannot start it. When I attempt to start it the mouse arrow turns into an hour glass for about 15 seconds and that's it. Nothing happens. I can't even enter my activation code because the program doesn't pop up on the screen.
I have Microsoft OneCare installed. The firewall permits acrobat.exe to access the Internet
I tried to download an update but I got a message saying the update could not be installed because the program wasn't found!
Any idea where the screwup is?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

Being the only user with admin rights is not, as far as I know, the same as being the Administrator
I think you must log in as Administrator
Also... updates do not work on the demo program, only on registered versions
Once you get the program to install, and you use your number to register, you will be able to update

  • Adobe reader will not start. I can not work on my taxes.

I've tried uninstalling, uninstalling with the Adobe clean uninstall tool, repairing windows, repairing Adobe reader, and TDSSKiller, and nothing works. Every time I try to start the reader it comes up with the message: "acrobat failed to load its core DLL". I'm running windows 7, and have tried to restore the OS to a previous version, but the corrupt file always comes up as not being able to be repaired. Also get message from Reader_sl.exe that the Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000006.

Sort of. I can not update windows or adobe without risk of losing everything again. MS and Adobe should work together better if the IRS is going to require everybody to use Adobe. The computer guy changed a lot of settings on my computer in order to get Adobe 10 to work, and now my mail program and Internet explorer programs keep locking up. Adobe customer support is non-existant; i.e. sucks. This is Adobe/MS problem is forcing me to buy a new computer, probably just how they planned it.

  • Adobe reader will not start after installation, what is wrong ?

When i try to start it - it comes up for a few seconds and then it close down

Please close all the instances of Adobe Reader (AcroRd) running in the Task Manger then try to launch it again.
