ADOBE LiveCycle Desinger ES 8.2 Replacement

I have ADOBE LiveCycle Desinger ES 8.2 installed on a Windows XP PC that has been replaced with a Windows 7 PC. I went to install the software on the new system and I am unable to locate the disks. I realize that this version of the program is seriously outdated but it still works for me. How can I get a replacement either in download format or by CD?

How did you get this software originally? It may have come with Adobe Acrobat. If you have Acrobat, chances are you can reinstall LiveCycle.

Is there a control in LC Forms to allow Expand/Collaps of a repeating subform elements ?
Basically, I want to hide/show a list of elements (repeating subform) using a Control that looks like "+" (expand) and "-" (collaps).
How to implement this feature ?

WOW ... this is very nice .
I like your idea about using special font to get this effect.
This is the code I am using for Click Event:
if (sfAttendancesItem._sfTimeEvents.count != 0) {
var cmdExpandToggleCaption = this.caption.value.resolveNode("#text")
if (cmdExpandToggleCaption.value == "u") {
sfTimeEvents.presence="visible";
cmdExpandToggleCaption.value = "q"
} else {
sfTimeEvents.presence="hidden";
cmdExpandToggleCaption.value= "u"
And, this is the code I am using for the Initialize Event on the parent subform:
this.sfTimeEvents.presence="hidden";
if ( this.sfTimeEvents._sfTimeEventsItem.count == 0) {
this.cmdExpandToggle.presence="invisible";
And ... it worked.
Thank you so much for the cool idea.
Could you please give a link for all your sample work ... I am sure I am missing a lot.

• How to create a adobe ebook using livecycle desinger ES3 version?

How to create a adobe ebook using livecycle desinger ES3 version

LiveCycle Designer is used for designing Forms, not eBooks.
The requirements of designing a book (ebook or otherwise) are not going to be meet by LiveCycle. You need functions like pagination and indexing.
A better choice would be to use InDesign, or even a word processor like Microsoft Word, and convert to PDF when finished.
You can read more about eBooks and the Adobe Digitial Publishing Platforms here: http://www.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/ebook/
At the bottom of this webpage are Resources which may help you understand the requirements of digitial publishing.

• We were using Adobe Livecycle Designer 7.0 for creating forms, what is new product replacement?

We were using Adobe Livecycle designer 7.0 (circa 2004) for creating our own dynamic forms. The program has since failed to work, we cant locate the old disk. What is the new product replacement that will allow us to build new forms from scratch with our own fields and data collection?

LiveCycle Designer no longer comes with the Windows version of Acrobat Pro, but it can be purchased separately (soon): http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/tools/designer.html

The form was created 10 or 11 months ago, and we are pretty sure that we were able to open it a while back
The same PDF file opens just fine in Windows 8.1 using Adober Reader XI 11,0.06, it is only the app that is affected.

The user's assertion is surprising to me, but perhaps I'm missing something important. I thought the correct position was from the conclusion of my earlier post "it can't be done". Adobe state their Reader Touch doesn't support XFA (http://blogs.adobe.com/readermobile/2012/12/13/adobe-reader-for-windows-8-tablets/). Unless (see that blog entry) you changed the type of form.

• Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 Dropdown List Fill from a spreadsheet

I am a new user to Adobe LiveCycle Designer and have created a form which a manager is required to fill out for each of their employees.
I would like to create a drop-down object which will contain the name of the employees, so the manager can just pick the employee from a dropdown list and then fill out the evaluation. We have over 1000 employees, so I don't want to type them in one by one.
Please let me know how to link the list of employees to this form from another source.
I can put the list of employee names into an Excel spreadsheet or an Access Database.
I have tried following information posted in different places in the web, but I must be doing something wrong??
I would appreciate a step by step guide of instructions to help me accomplish this task.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Select the Drop Down object and add a sample name thru the object UI. Now view the "XML Source" TAB, it shows xml code similar to the image.
Now need to prepare all the names from the excell, place all names in one column of excell and copy paste the <text> and </text> nodes to the names(hopefully each column at a time). now need to copy all together and prepare final version to copy notepad (may require some replace all with spaces to format properly) then from notepad only update the above xml source . while going to design view it may pop-up warning message of changed xml, and click yes, now all names should be present in the dropdown. Hope this works.All we are doing here the form design is from "XML Source" tab insted of adding one by one from the object from design view.

• Can Adobe LiveCycle do this?

Hi
Could anyone help me, I'm trying to find out if I can use Adobe LiveCycle to create a form that allows the user to select options from 3 different drop down lists that will be located on the left side of the page. I would then like to display the results on the right hand side of the page, is this possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Trev C.

Hi,
Yes, it should be very possible; I am just a bit unsure about what you mean by results (literal or representative).
There are two ways of dealing with dropdown lists: actual values, e.g. what you set as the drop down lists ("Section 1", "Section 2", "Section 3",...) and specified values in the bindings tab (0, 1, 2,...).
Because I think you want to represent the actual values of the three dropdown lists, it is probably best that you make sure that you do not have the "specify values" checked in the Object/Binding tab.This will ensure that any reference to the field will return the actual value that the user has selected.
If the results in the right hand side are just a combination of the three drop down lists, then the following FormCalc should do it:
$ = Concat(section, " ", item, " ", standard) //the space in the quotes could be replaced with your specific standard text...
"section" (etc.) being the names of your fields. You may need to fully resolve these depending on where they reside relative to $.
You should create a text field on the right hand side with the FormCalc in the calculate event.
Hope this works,
N.

• Adobe Acrobat DC erased my Adobe LiveCycles

Hey All,
I have a pretty in depth form that I have been updating in Adobe LiveCycle for several years now with populated large dropdown options and so on, but with the Cloud I have to also download the LiveCycle program separately. I have no issues with that, but with the latest upgrade to Adobe Acrobat DC from the cloud deleted my LiveCycle. Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? Is LiveCycle just that out of date? To me it had so much more control over forms than anything I have tried in Acrobat and I really need that kind of control. I do not see where in Acrobat to populate my dropdown menus and in the last Acrobat XI it would automatically move me back into LiveCycle when I did try to update my forms so I was ok with that.
Please any advice at all is appreciated! I have searched and searched and I see what looks to be a LiveCycle ES4 for sale on Adobe.com, but is this not part of the cloud? Are they still upgrading LiveCycle? Do I bother trying?
Thank you!
Erin

Designer has been debundled from Acrobat since Acrobat XI and was replaced with the already discontinued FormsCentral.
Designer ES4 now available as Stand-alone version.
Acrobat DC now comes without Designer and FormsCentral.
If your Designer was bundeld to a previous Acrobat (8, 9 or X Pro) version it has been removed during installation of DC I'm afraid.
There is currentlty no know way to installa Acrobat DC parallel to existing Acrobat versions, so you'll have to decide which one you want to use.
I personally would not use Designer together with Acrobat DC, as the new UI makes it difficult to use the PDF-Preview etc.

• Where is the Double-click Event in Adobe LiveCycle Designer

Hi Experts:
I was trying to put code into a Double Click event in Adobe LiveCycle Designer, but couldn't find the Event. There is a "Click" event, but that won't do.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks,
Jen

Hi Jen,
I was surprised the double click was missing but I use the following code in the click event, just replace the "[my double click code ]" and "[ my single click code ]" with your single and double click code. This code delays the single click event for 400ms to see if a second click is coming, you might want to play around with the 400ms as you have to balance the responsiveness of a single click with the double click.
if (new Date() - this.date < 400)
app.clearTimeOut(this.timeout);
this.date = undefined;
[my double click code ]
else
if (xfa.event.fullText !== "singleClick")
this.timeout = app.setTimeOut("xfa.event.fullText='singleClick';xfa.resolveNode('"+this.somExpression+"' ).execEvent('click');",500);
else
[ my single click code ];
this.date = new Date();

• IBM workplace forms to Adobe LiveCycle forms

Hi
I have been using IBM Workplace forms in my application for a long time and now want to migrate to adobe livecycle forms. Please can anyone tell me about how much similar are both? What all should i look out for while migrating. ?

We are also looking into a similar type of project. I'm not well versed in the IBM software, but I suspect there is no utlity or conversion tool to automate some of the transition work. (ie creating fields and other common objects)
We are looking at re-desinging the forms from scratch.

• Read Only HTML Forms using adobe livecycle Output ES

Hi,
We have a requirement to display the adobe html forms in read-only format. got to know from adobe consultants that Adobe Livecycle Output ES has this feature. but i am not able to find out any services or components that would give me this functionality.
Is there a way to get these readonly forms using Adobe Livecycle Output ES.

Dear Dfoto,
Thank you so much for being so kind to spend the effort and reply back, I though my question was left behind the sun... but now I am very happy in deed.
To be more specific, the Form has 2 parts. The first part "Subform1" any one can fill and sign.
The second part "Subform2", only certain users can fill and sign.
I think I found a very strong lead to my solution, when I was playing with LiveCycle Desinger few days ago.
On the Singature Field Advanced Setting, there is a place you can attach the public part of a certificate (Digital Signature) of any user, one or more.
In this part, you tell LC that only those users "signing parties" can sign the field. I tested it and it worked.
Now, if I can use this feature via JavaScript to find out if the user who is filling the form, can sign this field, then he can fill the form. If he cannot sign the field, then he cannot fill the form. I can do that by setting the "access" property of the Subform. Another solution is that I can prevent the user from hitting the "Submit" button unless he signes the designated Signature Field.
I have another small issue:
I found out that if the Signature field is part of a repeating dynamic Subform, it will not work during run-time. Very bad in deed. While I cannot understand why ?, I tool this as "By Desing" feature.
Now, if the Signature is locking parts of forms which has dynamic content (repeating subforms), it will always show somthing like "Signature is corrupted or form was changed after it was signed".
Is this normal ? Is there a way to control Dynamic Forms using Digital Signatures without such annoying issues ?
Thank you.

• How do I redirect to a URL with JavaScript on submit in Adobe LiveCycle

How do I redirect to a specific URL with JavaScript upon submit in Adobe LiveCycle?
I already have the code in place where the submit event is handled, and just need the specific code to do the redirect.
Standard asp.net-style redirects such as
windows.location.replace(http://myURL.com);
do not work.
Any help would be appreciated.

To be able to redirect a website with a submit button, you must have a custom submit button and insert the following line:
app.launchURL("www.url.com");

• Adobe Livecycle Submit Problems

I am using Adobe Livecycle ES. Putting a button on a page to submit the form. However although it appears to save the settings it sends the form to a different address and in a different format. I can even start a blank form set it to email address NEW and submit as XML and when submitting it sends to email address OLD and as a PDF.
Where is it picking these settings up from ? ? ?

Hi All-
I have an extremely frustrating problem. I have designed a form in LiveCycle ES 8.2.1 for users to fill out and submit via xml. I would like to use Acrobat Pro 9.1.0 to track and collect responses from this form. When I test the original form, the submit button works perfectly and it opens my email client (Groupwise) attaches the xml and populates the To, Subject, and Body fields perfectly.
The problem comes when I try to use Acrobat to distribute and track the forms. It creates a filed called 'form_distributed' that adds a bunch of code that completely screws up my form submission. When the form_distributed is filled out, and the user clicks the submit button, Groupwise 6.5.7 is invoked, but I get a 'Check Names' dialog box that states
"Windows Messaging does not recognize "1. Double-click the attachment".
After I click cancel on that dialog box, the JavaScript Debugger shows:
Exception in line 63 of function top_level, script XFA:form1[0]:p1[0]:Button1[0]:click
RaiseError: One of the specified recipients is not resolvable.
Doc.submitForm:63:XFA:form1[0]:p1[0]:Button1[0]:click
===> One of the specified recipients is not resolvable.
The distributed version has this extra code inserted
< script contentType="application/x-javascript">//@@SUBMITURL "mailto:[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n1. Double-click the attachment.\n2. Acrobat will prompt you to select a responses file.&ui=false"
and further down....
// submit the form
if (bContinue) {
var rawURL = "[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n1. Double-click the attachment.\n2. Acrobat will prompt you to select a responses file.&ui=false";
var submitURL;
if (app.viewerVersion < 9.0)
submitURL = "mailto:" + rawURL;
else
submitURL = "mailto:" + escape(rawURL);
currentDoc.submitForm({
cURL: submitURL,
cSubmitAs: "PDF"
});
}
Are these lines of code always inserted when the form is distributed?
How can I distribute and track these responses?
Does this tie in to Acrobat.com, and is that required to gather responses in this method?
It seems to be reading
"[email protected]?subject=Submitting Completed Form&body=Instructions to add this form to a responses file:\n"
as the first email address and then getting hung up on the body and interpreting it as an incomplete email address.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Questions regarding Adobe Reader Extensions for Adobe Livecycle.

Hi,
I'm relatively new to Adobe products, having just started to use Adobe Livecycle over the last couple of weeks. I've produced a set of interactive forms for field engineers to use. When completed, they will submit the xml data via email. However, there will be numerous occasions where they will need to stop in the middle of data collection and come back at a later point to finish, hence the need to locally save the information before submission.
I understand this is where Adobe reader extensions would come in, unlocking this functionality.
At the moment, i'm a bit of a loss on several points regarding how reader extensions work and i was wondering if anybody could fill in the gaps:
1. Are they seperate modules that bolt in into the main Livecycle application?
2. As these forms will be used off line, i would like to set the permissions to the pdf locally. From what i read, Reader Extensions is a server product. Is this correct, or can i use Reader Extensions to set these permissions before publishing the adobe form?
3. Where can i get hold of Reader Extensions and how much do they cost? I have been reading information on similar topics on this forum (dating 3-4 years ago) that say reader extensions are comparitavely expensive to a Adobe Pro/Livecycle licence. ($50,000 upwards) Is this correct? If so, is there a cheaper alternative to achieve the same outcome?
I hope someone can shed some light on these points!
Thanks in advance.
Rob

Reader Extensions can be bought as a module in LiveCycle. There is a subset of RE functionality that exists in Acrobat. The ability to save locally is part of Acrobat. In both cases you woudl RE the form before distributing it, hence when the user gets your form they are ready to go. You can download a trial version of the server product. As far as pricing goes you woudl be better to talk to an Adobe salesrep as there are discounts for certain situations as well as different pricing options. If you decide tp gp the Acrobat route you ar limited, by licence, to distribute your form to a max of 500 users.
Hope that helps
Paul

• Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES closes every time I open it :(

Hello all, I want to thank you beforehand for the help regarding this matter. I use Windows Vista and my Adobe LiveCycle Designer was working before but for the last week and a half or so I have not been able to get it to work! I have done scandisk/defrag/and have multiple software to keep my computer clean so I have taken those precautions beforehand. To the problem...:
My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working previously as mentioned, but when I try to open it by either opening or converting a form or creating a new form with a template, I am not able to as it gives me an error message and closes! It gives me an error message of "Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES has stopped working" and a screenshot of this is provided at the following link:
http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/bc59d422150595157c212a5b181313244g.jpg
I don't know what to do and wanted to see if I could solve this problem before I was forced to try to manually reinstall it so hopefully I don't have to go through that. I appreciate the help once again!

I am dealing with the same problem. I called Adobe technical support and spent hours to fix the problem but none worked. I tried to explain them the error might be caused by the Activation process but they just made me uninstall and install application several times.
When I start LiveCycle it gives the following error: adobe livecycle designer es has stopped working.
I start debugger to see what's going on and get the following exception: Unhandled exception at 0x773db663 in FormDesigner.exe: 0xC015000F: The activation context being deactivated is not the most recently activated one.
Does anyone know how to deactivate this product manually? Because deactivate menu is dimmed and I cannot deactivate product from the program. I believe if I can just remove activation info and activate it again this problem might disappear.
Thanks
