Adobe LiveCycle Workspace "Save as Draft" option

Hi,
I have XDP form designed using Adobe Form Designer 9.0.0.2 which has WSDL Data connections to fetch data from database to populate the form. This form has to be displayed in workspace for completion process with Reader Extension (Database and Web service Connectivity).  But when I display this form with Reader Extension in workspace I can see only complete button, save and offline button as not available.
I have a requirement to complete the form to initiate the Process – by pressing complete button which is working fine.
But to save the form to the initiator’s draft folder there is no save button available how to enable “save as draft” option for the above mentioned form.
Regards,
Chalukya.

Hi Jon,
Thanks a lot for your responce.
I am submitting my form as XDP.
Let me brief you –
When I am submitting my form as XDP without any Reader Extensions Applied to it then I
can see all three buttons : Complete, Save and Offline, in Workspace.
But as I apply Reader Extension (Database and Web service connectivity) and submit as XDP
then I can see only Complete button and not Save and Offline buttons.
Regards,
Chalukya.

  • Adding comments to PDF in Adobe LiveCycle Workspace ES2

Is it possible to let Adobe LiveCycle Workspace ES2 users to add comments to a PDF document without having to download the document?
    How?
I have been trying many different ways for the past several weeks, but couldn’t find a way.
I tried to bring the attachment into a document variable and then using it as the input document for an assign task operation, after reader extending (including online commenting) it in the process. Tried different kinds of PDFs, including documents created from Adobe Acrobat, Adobe LiveCycle designer, static forms, with or without input fields, etc. Nothing seems to work so far.
    Any tips would be welcome.
    Thanks.
    Ali.

    Hi $Nith$,
I tried the same procedure what you had explained here. But,  I am unable to get the comments that entered while reviewing.
Here I am attaching my workflow.
Here I am entering comments in workspace for this document in reviewer stage.  I want to send this comments along with document for next stage (Approval stage).
    Thanking you in advance.

  • Workspace Save As Draft feature

Workspace allows you to save a form as a draft. What happens to draft
documents that are accummulated, but never acted upon, due to
circumstances like the user is no longer using workspace, or has left
the company, etc? I mean, I know that once the form is submitted and the workflow is activated, you can set expirations and escalations. But what if the person initiates a form, and saves it as draft, thereby NEVER submitting it to the workflow process?
Considering what I've been learning, I think that I must create a custom render service that first sets expiration dates and then render the form and then workspace-enables the form?
    Please advise,
    Regards,
    Elaine

Here I go reviving a dead thread (yay zombies!) but I've run into this same topic recently, and wanted to share what I learned.
Saving a form as Draft within Workspace results in a write to the database.  That's mostly obvious, it has to be persisted somewhere.  The problem is exactly WHERE in the database, and WHAT can you do about "old" drafts.
WHERE is the Task table, tb_tasks, and the Form Data table, tb_form_data.  You can find all of the draft forms in your system with a query like this:
    SELECT TT.instructions, TT.task_description, TT.step_name, TT.service_title, TF.initformvariable, TP.canonicalname, TP.commonname, TT.start_time, TT.process_instance_id
FROM tb_task TT, tb_form_data TF, edcprincipalentity TP, tb_assignment TA, tb_queue TQ
    where TT.id = TF.task_id AND TT.status in (2, 4) and TT.current_assignment_id = TA.id and TQ.workflow_principal_id = TP.id AND TQ.id = TA.queue_id
Note that digging around like this is not recommended at all!  At least this is just a query, not a DB change, but there's no guarantees that indices are properly used and running this query won't consume your resources!
The draft form is in the TF.initformvariable.  The rest are there to be informative to the reader.  The TF.initformvariable column equates to a LiveCycle Document data type.  You can't really hand edit it or anything.
WHAT you can really do with this is, unfortunately, not much directly.  The good news is that as a Task item, old drafts should I believe get cleaned up using the Adobe Purge Utility, or the Avoka Purge Utility for a bit of a plug.

  • New to using workspace - Save as Draft button

    Background work:
    1.  I have a separate process that generates a pdf document to be used by a team member.  These files is saved to a network drive.  It takes to long to generate the document dynamically.
    2.  Within workspace, I have a start process card that displays a form to enter member id and state.  This form displays the "save" and "complete" buttons.  Fill in the info and select "complete".
    3.  This starts the process to assign a task to the team member.  It goes out to the network drive and gets the correct pdf document to be used for the application.  It is assigned to a document variable.  The task uses this document variable as the User Interface for the task.
    4.  The team member goes out to the queue and starts the task.
    5.  The pdf document opens correctly within workspace.
The issue I have is that it doesn't have a "Save" button to save the document in the drafts folder.  How do I enable this feature or get it to work correctly?
    PDF document Info:
Able to save locally using the save button within reader.  There is no save or submit button on the forms.
I believe it uses reader extentions.
A packet of several forms with heavy use of javascript.

I think you need to check the Reader Extension on your fomr. Below post also talks about the same:

Can't seem to change the Document Properties > Advanced > Reading Options in a Form that was created in Adobe LiveCycle. This option has been "greyed" out - anyone know how to update this to English so I can pass Accessibility Testing?

LiveCycle forms use a very different approach to create a PDF form than Acrobat and that approach makes many features for processing PDFs non-functional.
You might want to ask this question in one of the LiveCycle product forums.

Only some mail? Most likely that email not giving you that option was enabled by the service book(s) you deleted.
Try sending your Service Books again.
On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • I am trying to install adobe and it keeps giving me option to save file instead of run?

I am trying to insatll adobe and it only gives me option to save not to run?

Are you sure you are downloading the correct version for your computer chip and OS?
You can save the file and then run the file if the file is an executable file compatible with your system.
Are you trying to download an update file and not the install file?

  • Questions regarding Adobe Reader Extensions for Adobe Livecycle.

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Adobe products, having just started to use Adobe Livecycle over the last couple of weeks. I've produced a set of interactive forms for field engineers to use. When completed, they will submit the xml data via email. However, there will be numerous occasions where they will need to stop in the middle of data collection and come back at a later point to finish, hence the need to locally save the information before submission.
I understand this is where Adobe reader extensions would come in, unlocking this functionality.
At the moment, i'm a bit of a loss on several points regarding how reader extensions work and i was wondering if anybody could fill in the gaps:
    1. Are they seperate modules that bolt in into the main Livecycle application?
    2. As these forms will be used off line, i would like to set the permissions to the pdf locally. From what i read, Reader Extensions is a server product. Is this correct, or can i use Reader Extensions to set these permissions before publishing the adobe form?
    3. Where can i get hold of Reader Extensions and how much do they cost? I have been reading information on similar topics on this forum (dating 3-4 years ago) that say reader extensions are comparitavely expensive to a Adobe Pro/Livecycle licence. ($50,000 upwards) Is this correct? If so, is there a cheaper alternative to achieve the same outcome?
I hope someone can shed some light on these points!
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

Reader Extensions can be bought as a module in LiveCycle. There is a subset of RE functionality that exists in Acrobat. The ability to save locally is part of Acrobat. In both cases you woudl RE the form before distributing it, hence when the user gets your form they are ready to go. You can download a trial version of the server product. As far as pricing goes you woudl be better to talk to an Adobe salesrep as there are discounts for certain situations as well as different pricing options. If you decide tp gp the Acrobat route you ar limited, by licence, to distribute your form to a max of 500 users.
    Hope that helps
    Paul

  • Save in draft folder - problem

As I understand it, the save in draft folder function is supposed to appear only for XDP forms.  We have a PDF form where the submit button in the form is set to submit as PDF.  And yet, the save button still appears in workspace container.  If a user selects the save button and later opens the form/task, the form is converted to XML and unviewable.
Within the UserServiceV2 activity, I do not check off the "Reader Submit - Submit via Reader" checkbox.  All of our users have acrobat.
Is there some way for the function to work with PDFs?  If not, is there a standard workaround to offer that feature to end users?
    Thanks

    Hi Livecycle Architect,
Did you ever resolve this issue? I have a part of the problem that you describe here. While all my forms are submitted as XDP, if we save a form to Drafts, when we open it latter it shows XML and the form is unusable.
    Any pointers will help.
    Thanks

  • Read/write xml data from/to adobe livecycle forms (pdf)

    Hello,
I need some help reading xml data from pdfs created by Adobe LiveCycle and also writing xml data back to the form.
The forms have been created using PROD LC 8.2 and in the future they will be created using PROD LC 9.5.
I am using Visual Basic .NET to access the data programatically.
Can anyone help me with some hints? A library, SDK? Any information would be very helpful.
I am quite new with this Electronic Forms issue and I do not even know where to start.
    Thank you,
    Ionel

    Hi lonel,
Do you want an online solution?
I mean, it follows this workflow:
    1. The user will open the PDF by clicking a link, and a server-side program will generate the PDF and prepopulate it with data from some data sources, and render the PDF to the client (Browser),
    2. The user will fill the PDF.
    3. The user will click a Submit button and save the PDF and Data on the server.
    4. If the user wants to edit the Submitted Form, he will click a link to open the save PDF and possibly prepopulate some fields with data from other data sources, and complete the cycle of filling and saved the PDF and Data on the server.
    5. While the user is filling the PDF (inside a Browser), there might be a need to perform some lookup on the server, and update the form parts accordingly as a result of the lookup process.
For 1-4 above, I have developed a complete base library using ASP.NET which helps you to perform the above.
You can goto my Google Workspace and you will find a bunch of documents, sample PDFs, collections and VB Classes. To best view them, login using some Google Account.
For point 4 above, one way to perform this effect, is to regenerate the required XML Data (which has the saved data before and the new lookup data), remerge the entire XML result with and empty PDF Form, and render the XFA (PDF Form) back to the client. But, if the PDF has one or more signatures, it will not work. So, in this case, you can update the Form Fields of a Saved PDF Form with new Data from the server, but the net effect is that you will have to loose all the signatures that were added on the PDF before.
For 5 (above) there are 3 methods:
    1. Using a Web Service as a Data Connection. This is very easy if you have a traditional Web Service. I have used this method several times and will use it again if the need be. But, there is a problem. If the result of the Web Service is an Array of some Data, and you want to remerge the XFA to get the required effect after executing the web service ... and ... if there are some Drop-Down-List (DDL) fields, the bindings of the DDL Items of those fields will be lost. But, you can rebuild them (on enter event of the DDL Field)  if you have saved them in the embedded XML Data.
    2. You can update few (not many) fields while the PDF is opened (under the Browser via IFRAME) by passing the new field values using the URL Query String method. I have not done this, but I like this method, and I think it is cool. You need to write a server side code to ensure the the new filed values are passed back to the client using the correct URL with the Query String, and you need to write some javascript code inside the PDF to parse the URL and get the new field values and update them accordingly. See this as an example:
    http://www.halnesbitt.com/pages/pdfqs.php
    3. This method is very advanced and uses message communication ques between the Browser and the PDF (which is opened inside IFRAME element) using HostContainer object. This method will enable 2-way communication between the Browser and the PDF on the client side using javascript. I'd love to use this method one day. See example here:
    http://www.windjack.com/WindJack/Browser2PDF/brwsr2acroJS.htm
I hope this will be of help to you.
    Tarek.

  • Enable "save as draft"

Does anyone know how to enable "save as draft" for a form in workspace?

What is the type of your input form variable?
For me, XFAForm renders with save in draft folder option enabled; but DocumentForm is not. Just make sure to have an XFAForm type.

  • Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1 - Barcoded Forms Changes

For those of you that have upgraded to Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1 you should notice that there are a few changes to the Paper Forms Barcode object interface.
On the Field tab you will see that the label may be generated automatically or manually which before could only be generated automatically. The most significant change may be found further down in the new Symbology pull-down menu. Not only can Barcodes be generated in the PDF417 format, but now you can take advantage of both QRCode and DataMatrix. Depending on the region as well as vertical will probably decide which format you will be using on your forms but it may be worth experimenting with different symbologies and data capacities based on the data of your forms to see if there may be a better alternative.
On the Value tab you will find a slight change to the automated scripting. Tab-delimited and XML may still be generated automatically but you now have the option to select whether or not you would like to include the field names and labels. The Include Field Names separates the field names by tabs and encodes them as the first line of the barcode contents. The values are encoded beneath them. Include Label encodes the label (shown in Field tab) as the first tab-delimited field in the barcode contents. This is a great way to include a form identifier as a standard in your data (a good best practice). Keep in mind that when using the default tab-delimited formats the Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms Decoder can create XML from tab-delimited data automatically which saves some time on the back-end integration effort.
Again on the Value tab there is another new drop-down field named Collection. For those of you familiar with the Barcoded forms interface of Acrobat, you were able to select the fields that you wanted to be encoded in the barcode without having to do any custom scripting. The Collection interface basically provides you with the same functionality but under a great tree-view interface that allows you to manage the data that goes into your Barcode very easily, again, without custom Scripting.
