Adobe Muse 1.0 Release - a disgrace to Adobe @ 25

I'm sincerely disappointed that after going through the beta stages for over 9months, promises, contribution, expectations. Adobe would release an incomplete and feature-less product as part of its creative cloud release. Several ideas contributed by beta testers was turned down for just half-baked additions. This is disappointing! Adobe wants me to pay for that!

How about stop fighting over who's wrong and who's right?
You have all have got your own personal opinion and a point. I don't see any meeting grounds since you all stand in different areas of the spectrum:
- Marian will wait until there'll be something she deems mature and worth the price,
- topelovely is upset that after all the beta testing, now Adobe asks users to pay for a release deemed not worth the price, and sees that as a continued beta testing period at subscribers expenses,
- grayrockgraphics is OK paying a subscription for a product that although not mature, is being helpful enough to make it worth the subscription cost.
You are all right in your point of view... so I see no point in arguing over who's point is "righter"... so in the end:
- Marian will subscribe, perhaps after version 3 will be out, or whenever she will think the app is mature enough to justify the cost,
- topelovely will probably hold a grudge to Adobe for a bit longer and may take more than version 3 to make a purchase worth the subscription price, in the meantime may (or not) actively looking for alternatives that may exist in the market,
- grayrockgraphics will continue to be a happy camper
As far as I am concerned and I don't know if any users in the community will share (or have even thought about the new cloud subscription model from my POV)...
There is one thing I don't like about the cloud pricing and that is the fact that I will be at the mercy of Adobe to be able to use creative tools. This is something I honestly don't like much at all. Not a question of fairness, principle or even price... it's practicality and experience that raise several concerns. For instance:
- What will happen with my creative tools when/if a company offering them via subscription decides to stop offering as they may find something else more profitable or for any other reasons? Flash hasn't been killed, but no longer enjoys the popularity and dominance it once had... Flex has turned into Flash builder later only to be handed to the Apache foundation to be shelved somewhere... Catalyst died when was just coming out of the woumb as Flash lost exponetially in popularity with the advent of the iDevices which forced Adobe to rethink its strategy on its Flash platform turning a dying product into a niche one to be used mostly for 3D gaming and other niche app building turing its aims at plugin-free, web-standard-compliant creation tools (therefore adding Edge and Muse projects to the family).
So although most of the efforts and hours of learning dedicated to become proficient in Flash and AS1, then AS2, and once again AS3, have gone mostly down the drain (in practice) along with the money invested in it since there are much less opportunities out there today for flash developers, not all was completely lost. Knowledge of some programming principles, best practices, optimization, etc., experience with the application and AS3 will be reusable across other apps, are some of what remained. But above all, one thing hasn't been lost and that is my access to the Flash application itself, since I haven't been required (nor will be required), to pay a monthly subscription in order to access the applications I OWN. I still own the Macromedia versions of Flash and can still install them on my mac to my heart content as I see fit... I can do the same with all the version of the software I own. Call me silly or old fashioned, but I'd rather own my applications than pay a subscription to access the tools that earn my livelihood. I like to decide when to spend or not to spend rather than going on an endless and indefinite payment plan.
I do not disagree with having the option to offer a formula where customers will subscribe to a cloud service in order to access their applications (and I know apps are not running in the cloud... no need to reassure about the fact they still run on users desktops), that's something that will help Adobe and not most users. The company started to loose purchases for the way upgrades where offered. I could not justify spending close to 1K in an upgrade that added little to nothing to what I currently owned, so now Adobe has turned to indefinite charging to make sure everyone keeps paying and will forced everyone to update whether they like it or not, even when not needed, and even when can't afford it at any given time.
While this model my satisfy some users, others like myself, would prefer to be given the option to continue purchasing stand alone versions of the products that do not impose a mandatory cloud membership in order to be able to use the application. I still want the ownership of the right to access the application whenever and however I see fit and necessary to me. The subscription-only model is most damaging as it becomes a pre-requisite to be able to continue to work free of pending monthly bills that in time add up and may represent for most an unnecessary expenditure. Large corporations may not care about it, but many freelancer professional are increasingly being forced to penny-pinch and become more frugal for a list of reason I will spare you mentioning here.
The new cloud subscription model was likely pleasing to shareholders, and Adobe as it's designed to create a steady revenue stream for the company. Much like the wireless carriers' cell plans, where one would continue to pay for the service even when not needed. And what's more one will have to continue paying even if there'll be a price increase... since it will no longer be an option to "skip the next couple releases".
I still own, can access, actively use and find satisfying most of my professional needs the apps in my CS4 Premium. That not only increases my ROI in software, but gives me confidence that I will continue to be able to works for months to come without having to pay $50/month just to continue to use those applications and won't force me in upgrades that I might no be interested in, I might not want, or I might not be able to afford at a given moment. I would gladly pay for something when I will have use for it, it will make financial and practical sense and I would actually pay to ownership the right to use it free from limitations such as having to pay a monthly access fee.
So for that and other reasons, many users aren't rejoicing for the most part, and are rather concerned and/or upset about the decision of Adobe to go down that route... I am (quite obviously) one of the concerned ones. The concerns and opinions I expressed above may or not find you in  agreement, but one thing is undeniably clear: this move will have far reaching impacts that many of us aren't even thinking about today. And that's just a fact, no matter how many like Marian will patiently wait for a release that will justify the investment, or how many others will be sulking over having to pay for beta testing-grade apps like topelovely (understandably upset about it) delaying purchase indefinitely perhaps looking at alternatives, and no matter the many that will be happy campers like grayrockgraphics, and have no trouble paying the fee and who probably haven't given much thought about what this scenario could mean long-term once ownership concept will be completely removed and dependency concept will have become the new paradigm.
Just on that note I'd like to let all temporary happy campers that the monthly subscription has been set at the current amount to entice users to switch, but it will be unlikely to remain as such for long and there won't be any guarantee it will always be matching everyone's idea of "affordable"... after all since you make a living on those apps, would it be unfair to ask customers to pay $1,200 ($100/mo) to update the suite that enables them to continue to work? Some may respond that's even cheap! But I may argue that the suite alone brings little value, it's who it's used and what's being produced that creates one's livelihood, those apps are just enabling tools. For a cheesy reference... the values were not in the chisel and hammer Michelangelo used to sculpt but in his skills, artistic sensibility, genius... (and almost fanatical devotion to the pope ;D)... true he could not sculpt without chisel and hammer, nor he would have been able to bring to life his splendid creations with a dull chisel. But I hope everyone gets it: it's not all about the just a chisel.
The point of the matter is that for many more users the subscription model will be a clear loss. Just consider this:
It's been about 4 years since I owned CS4 and for it I paid ~$650 with taxes. With each passing month I've increased my ROI and NOT my EXPENSES, so buying first to upgrading as needed should be a no-brainer. I have had no need to upgrade since and, where freelancing required to work on newer versions, the client provided their own copy installed on their own computer which created no pressing need for me to rush into unneded upgrades.
So under a subscription plan ~$54/mo with taxes (assuming the current amount remained the same in the 48 months span of app ownership) where my TCO today would have been $2592.00 and counting, my actual TCO it's been about $13.55 and it is lowering itself (not increasing!) with each passing month. The total of $2592.00 I would have spent in 4 years of subscription-based access, are roughly x4 the of what I paid to upgrade therefore it represents a total of 4 upgrades at a $650 price point. Regardless to the fact that I had no need for such upgrades (not that I could even decide to save my money and continue using CS4 since there isn't such an option in subscription-based plans), I would not be getting 4 upgrades to major releases, but only two CS5 and CS6 (something that as I mentioned, was unnecessary form my needs). It isn't a question of being a cheapskate, but rather spending where it makes sense to do so and saving where spending would be wasteful. I don't know about most people but I could put to good use any "extra" cash and as a matter of fact the $1,942 saved would easily cover a $40.45 cellphone plan over those 4 years... how would you like to get free cell service for 4 years? Of course you could use that money for course tuition and invest in learning new skills or whatever you deem necessary... point is why should we be forced pay indefinitely for a subscription when ownership in many cases (certainly mine as you can see from the number above) is a far more convenient (for me not Adobe) deal?!
To those who may argue that subscriptions give access to the latest software, I say two this:
1) that comes at a hefty premium and as I showed above it would be much cheaper to upgrade to major releases as needed, especially since it not always necessary to have the latest release... Adobe knows that full well and that's why is now pushing subscriptions-based access to its creative suite to increase revenues (not a critic to their move, it makes good business sense for a company as their interest is in growing revenues first and foremost. Unfortunately that happens to be detrimental and uneconomical for customers and there's no arguing intention here).
2) you will have no other option but continue to upgrade whether you like it or not since the moment you would end your subscription you will be left with nothing to work with.
3) In my calculation above even in the case where there would've been parity and would have had to pay a full $2,592 for the cost for ownership after 4 years, at the end of those 4 years I'd be still owning the application, while after 4 years of paying monthly subscription access I'd be left holding my jewels
Further argument of "what about including the cost of original full CS purchase used to upgrade"? Well if point #3 above wasn't already making that question completely moot, even adding roughly $1300 of a CS2 bought 2 years earlier it would come to a total of $1,950 that in 6 years would mean the cost would still have been ~$27/mo (though in my case was lower as my upgrade path from Macromedia MX studio 8 to costed less than 1/2 than those $1,300)
so to wrap up... I'd like to see Adobe keep both options so that customers will be able choose the formula that best suits their needs... those who prefer ownership will be able to buy physical copies of the applications,  and those who prefer a subscription model, will be able to go that route as well... and everyone will be a happy camper ;D

  • Adobe Muse - Edge Reflow

Is it, or will it be, a possibility to use Edge Reflow with Adobe Muse?

    Hello,
Edge Reflow has been released in an early development stage. Not all planned features have been implemented.
Till now, it does not have any option to create files that can be used with Adobe Muse.
So, currently there is no integration between Muse and Edge Reflow.
I would suggest you to post this as a feature request on our "Ideas for features in Adobe Muse" section of the forums : http://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/ideas
    Regards,
    Sachin

  • New features in Adobe Muse 2.0

The following is a list of features now available in Adobe Muse:
    Align Palette
We've added a new Align Palette, available from the Window menu, or by clicking on the new 'Align' control in the control strip.
You can use the new Align features to align or distribute selected objects relative to each other, or to the page content area (which is the area from the bottom of the header to the top of the footer).
    Asset Upload
You can now link to any external file (i.e. PDF, .zip file, .dmg or .exe) and add a hyperlink to it to enable users to download the file from your web site.
All linked assets will be uploaded / exported along with the rest of the Adobe Muse site, in a new 'assets' folder.
    Code Generation Improvements
We've improved the HTML code generation for Adobe Muse 2.0 in several areas. Shadows, Glows, and Gradients now use CSS instead of generating additional images.
We've eliminated many cases where we generated duplicated HTML nodes. We've also changed our JavaScript framework for our widgets from Spry to a smaller, faster framework called WebPro.
These changes make the export process faster, and Adobe Muse now generates less images and smaller HTML files.
Shadows and outer glows are represented using CSS box-shadows instead of rasterizing.
Fixed the naming of images exported by Adobe Muse which have been either resampled or cropped before exporting.
Background images that have been set to "Scale to Fit" or "Scale to Fill" are now exported with the 'contain' or 'cover' background-size CSS property, respectively.
Browsers display a warning when you serve a page that mixes HTTP and HTTPS content, which can be triggered if loading content from a content delivery network (CDN) such as Amazon's CloudFront. To avoid these warnings, Adobe Muse uses some JavaScript to not use CDN URLs with HTTPS in favor of falling back to a local version of the content.
    Forms
We've added a new Form widget to the widget library.
You can easily configure the form to send the form submissions to multiple email addresses, and optionally redirect users to another page after submitting the form.
You can add and remove fields, and style the form as you would other Adobe Muse elements. You can independently style the various states of the form, and form fields to provide a compelling user experience, with visual cues for error states, empty states, and more.
Because Form processing requires server-side support, Adobe Muse forms are configured to work when published to Adobe Business Catalyst. If you make changes to your form and publish again, Adobe Muse will make the appropriate changes to your Adobe Business Catalyst forms.
Adobe Muse will safeguard data when redesigning your Adobe Business Catalyst forms
If a field with no data submitted is removed, it will be deleted from the database.
If a field that has submitted data is removed, it will be preserved in the database, but can be deleted from the Adobe Business Catalyst admin console if desired.
    Font Improvements
The font UI includes font previews in the form of sample text rendered in the corresponding font/weight/style.
Submenus for the various font types (web, web-safe and system) have been eliminated in favor of a single sectioned list, with shortcuts to scroll to each section.
Web fonts and system fonts are grouped by font family; individual weights and styles (e.g. Bold, Italic, Bold Italic etc.) of multi-face font families appear in sub-menus.
The font UI displays an automatically generated list of recently used fonts. The number of recently used fonts to display can be configured and list can be cleared.
The font list can be filtered by font family (e.g. “Myriad Pro”), weight or style (e.g. “Bold Italic”), a combination of these (e.g., “Myriad Pro Bold Italic”), including partial names in any order (e.g., “It Bold Myr Pro”).
Adobe Muse now uses platform-independent references to fonts, so Adobe Muse documents can be exchanged between Mac and Windows without failure to resolve font references.
Adobe Muse displays localized font names (if available) based on the application locale, rather than system locale. Adobe Muse documents can be exchanged between across application locales without failure to resolve font references.
    FTP Upload
Adobe Muse now includes the ability to FTP to the host of your choice by selecting File > Upload to FTP Host in the Adobe Muse menu.
Adobe Muse's FTP upload dialog allows you to specify the host, subdirectory, and login information.
    Adobe Edge Integration
If you publish an .oam file from Adobe Edge, you can place it into Adobe Muse. All required images, CSS and JavaScript content will be uploaded at Publish or Export time.
As with other placed content any changes made in the source Adobe Edge file and re-saved in .oam format will be detected within Adobe Muse, and you can use the Assets Palette to update the content in Adobe Muse.
    Language Support
Japanese and Italian localizations have been added.
Specific Japanese features include the addition of Japanese web safe fonts on the font menu as well as support for Japanese IME, including text input and double-byte text.
    Ruler Guides
Adobe Muse now includes the ability to drag guides onto a page from the Horizontal or Vertical ruler.
Page items snap to guides when moving, but guides are not exported.
Adobe Muse supports selecting multiple guides on a page.
    Sitemap.xml
Adobe Muse now creates a sitemap.xml file for better search engine optimization when the site is hosted somewhere other than Adobe Business Catalyst. You can exclude a page from the sitemap.xml file (if you don't want search engines to find it) by setting an option in the Page Properties dialog.
    Browser Fill Improvements
You can now set a gradient on the Browser Fill. (Note: Opacity, Focal point and Size are not available due to cross-browser compatibility and usability standards)
In addition, you can now set your browser background image to fit or to fill.
    Control Strip Improvements
The Adobe Muse control strip now has collapsible control sets (similar to Illustrator). As you expand the width of the Adobe Muse application window more controls appear.
Additional controls have been added to the Control strip – States, Transform, and Align. Text controls are now available when text frames are selected, not just when you're using the text tool.
    Drag and drop styles/swatches/colors
You can now drag and drop a Paragraph style or Character style onto a text frame to apply the style to the text.
You can also drag a Graphic style into a page item, or the page to apply it.
You can drag a Swatch onto a page item, page, or browser area of a page to apply background fill.
You can drag a Color (via dragging the color preview area just above the RGB edit boxes) onto a page item, page, or browser area of a page to apply background fill. You can also drag a color to the Swatches palette to create a swatch of it.
    Hyperlinks
The Hyperlink control can now be resized so that users can see entire URL. We've changed the label of the hyperlink option “Title” to “Tooltip” to help clarify where user enters the hyperlink destination information.
    New Selection Visuals
Hint labels now show when you hover over elements on the page. There is a new preference to turn this display off.
Groups and widgets are now indicated with dotted line containment rectangles.
When a page item cannot be resized in a specific direction we now show an “X” instead of a missing handle.
    Widget Improvements
Slideshow and Composition widgets now include a numeric stepper for controlling the Auto Play speed in seconds rather than Off, Slow, Medium, Fast.
We've added Shuffle as an option to the Slideshow and Composition widgets so the slideshow or composition contents play in random order.
Changing a Menu widget from horizontal to vertical, or vice versa, now does a much better job of preserving size and spacing.
Changing the state of one part of a widget at design time now changes appropriate sibling parts to the same state to more closely mimic browser behavior.
Based upon customer feedback, we renamed the following:
"Fit Width" and "Fit Height" to "Uniform Spacing"
"Uniform Width" and "Uniform Height" to "Uniform Size"
    Other assorted improvements
Shift + Return/Enter will create a soft return instead of a carriage return.
Control/Ctrl + Tab activates next tab.
Control/Ctrl + Shift + Tab activates previous tab.
Option/Alt + click a page tab will close all open page tabs.
Option/Alt + click a site tab will close all open sites.
Holding the Shift key down while resizing an image allows you to perform a non-proportional resize.
The X, Y, W, H, and Angle edit boxes support duplicating and transforming the selection if you hold down the Option/Alt key when you hit Return/Enter or Tab.
If you enter a value in an edit box you can do a Shift + Enter to apply the value AND keep focus in the edit box.
Select Same feature added which selects other objects on the page that are the same type as the object currently selected and can be used through Alt Control Shift A and the Context and Edit menus.
Added feedback to rotation tracker so you see the angle next to the cursor as you rotate.
Changed rotation display values to be between -180 and 180 to match other Adobe apps. Previously it was 0 to 360.
Publish dialog has a new FAQ link to help users understand the implications of publishing.
Upload to FTP and Export to HTML workflows now have a ‘Domain Name’ input field. This is used for generation of Sitemap.xml and for enabling Typekit web fonts.
The display of 100% width items on iOS devices is now enabled.
Adobe Muse now produces functional submenus on iOS devices.

Not all of the listed email recipients on my contact form are receiving the inquiries.    Muse allows me to add several email addresses separated by a semi-colon (see below from Corey Wrote) but only one of the three addresses are receiving the contact form inquiries.

  • Unable to install the latest version of Adobe Muse via Adobe Application Manager

I´m a user of Creative Suite applications  and all of them have been updated successfully with the exception of the latest version of Adobe Muse.
I´m unable to install it. I get error DW 050
    I´m using Windows 7 64 bit.
All previous versions of Adobe Muse have been installed OK.
Following a forum discussion I could read, I uninstalled the previous version, but the installation fails again.
Does any body know how to solve this issue?

    Dear Sachin:
Thank you for your help, however I have to get back to you to inform that after  downloading the new package based on the link that you´ve provided, I´m  still unable to execute the application.  I get the message: “block by the administrator”  and also another message: “the editor of this program is unknown and unsafe”. Please note that all other programs from Adobe´s Creative Cloud have been downloaded and installed with success. All Adobe Creative programs have been installed on my computer several months ago and all are working fine so far.  This morning I installed an update for Photoshop without  any problem. It seems that the problem persists only with Muse. I have to highlight that I´m the administrator of my PC and therefore all applications are currently being executed as administrator. I have never had the intention to block any program, including obviously Adobe´s Creative Suite programs.
Could you please let me know how to splve this problem?
    Michael.

    Hi Mylenium,
danke für den Hinweis, ich kenne mich da nicht so gut aus, hab mal ein screenshot gemacht ob die Zugriffsrechte richtig sind?
Nach wie vor hab ich immer noch das selbe problem.
Hab schon mehrmals Muse deinstalliert, FDP Rechte repariert, Safemodus etc. leider alles ohne Erfolg.
Das komische ist wenn ich ein neuen Benutzer anlege funktioniert das Einwandfrei.

  • Questions about Adobe Muse CC single-app membership.

When speaking to adobe customer service reps about Adobe Muse I feel like their taking me around in circles. My annual membership to the current Adobe Muse is going to expire in June. So before I sign on for another year I had some basic questions that seem to be baffling the adobe reps. one rep called Travis just hung up on me.
    My questions;
With an Adobe Muse CC single-app membership.
Can I host a site on Business Catalyst for free?
The rep said I have to purchase Business Catalyst separately from Adobe Muse
This adobe page says, “An Adobe Muse CC one-year single-app membership includes hosting for one webBasics site
    (http://www.adobe.com/au/products/muse/faq.edu.html)
How much space do I get on www.creativecloud.comwith a single-app membership?
The rep said I get 20GB when Adobe Muse becomes Adobe Muse CC in June
I currently have Adobe Muse and I have 20GB of space on creative cloud.
This adobe page says I get 10 GB (http://www.adobe.com/au/products/muse/faq.edu.html)
This adobe page says I get 20 GB (http://www.adobe.com/au/products/muse/features.edu.html)
Can someone pleas answer these questions!

With an Adobe Muse subscription, you get BC website hosting for 1 webBasics site. With a subscription to the creative cloud, hosting for 5 webBasics sites are included.
Single app subscriptions get 20GB of storage space on creative cloud.
I'll try to get that first link updated with the correct info.

  • Problem with opening my files in Adobe Muse - error stating it isn't latest version but Adobe CC says it is...

Hi, I downloaded a 30-day trial of Adobe Muse. All was working well. I published the site but it seemed to merge my site with another in Business Catalyst, so I deleted the site in BC. Then when I tried to publish again form Muse, I get 'An unknown authentication error has occurred using your AdobeID'.
I searched online and was advised to uninstall Muse and reinstall. All done fine but when I try to open my muse site file, I get an error stating 'This Adobe Muse file requires a newer version of Adobe Muse. Please update to the latest version'.
Meanwhile my Creative Cloud profile states its the latest version.
Please help. I had considered just signing up and subscribing thinking this may solve problem but am a little wary to do so in case issues are not resolved even then and then I am paying fro an app I cannot use! Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Amen, same thing for me this is a big bug and leaves all the Muse users scatching their heads. Adobe is pretty arrogant about Muse users, they are targeted for abuse.

  • Can Adobe Muse be run on more than one computer?

Hi,I love Adobe Muse but it has created an issue between me and my workers in updating the website.
So I'm thinking about putting another copy on a Windows VPS, so that my workers can login and make modifications  as needed.
Can I do this under a single muse license?

    Hello
You may install a copy of Adobe Muse CC on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as you do not use the software concurrently on both machines. It is cross-platform compatible (Mac/Mac, Mac/PC, or PC/PC)
Please refer to Adobe Muse Faqs for more information:- http://helpx.adobe.com/muse/faq.html
