To be pragmatic, consider FH completely and utterly dead.
It's been buggy since version 8, IMHO and has just gotten
flakier as the
OSes and Hardware has been updated while FH has just sat
there.
I love FH. I'll keep using it, but if I were getting back
into professional
print design (I do mainly web stuff) I'd be hunkering down
and using AI for
clients, while trying out every possible open source and
commercial
alternative in the meantime. ;o)

Does Adobe officially support running Photoshop on VMware?

I need to convert from discrete servers running Photoshop for an image resizing function to a VMware/blade server environment.
Does Adobe officially support running Photoshop on VMware?
Also, what versions of ESX are currently tested and supported?
I understand there may be some special configs needed to get the licenses to work....what are they?
Also, if certain versions of Photoshop are supported and others are not supported under VMware, I need to know that as well.
How do you get to a product manager at Adobe?....For Gods sake, they have a customer service blockade to get to a person who knows this stuff.

Adobe *claim* to now allow one to install (manually, tediously) the Output Module for Bridge CC.
However, it results in an I/O error when running.

Adobe actively killing off Freehand with Flash CS5

Hi,
We have just upgraded to Flash CS5, wanted CS4 and were told there is now CS5 and it will be that.
We come to open our Freehand maps from our vast database of such and CS5 wont open them. Flash 8 would.
CS5 we are told has dropped support for Freehand. This brings the new map work of a Government body in Flash to a halt.
Freehand is the tool for maps, superior to Illustrator. I have tried out Illustrator and hate it, other Cartographers also stick with Freehand. Its about time Adobe stopped shunning that side of the graphics industry. We have a job to do.
If Adobe host Freehand they should ensure two vector apps work together. No reason why suddenly Flash will not work with the vector file, somebody has simply tweaked it to deny Freehand users the ability to use Flash anymore.
As I type I now learn that Adobe have dropped selling Freehand, long rude word !!!!!!!!!!!!
How dare they deny cartographers a better tool. We have tried to convert maps in the past, the clipping paths are one aspect that fall over. Line caps another. There is no time to both do a job and mess around battling with Illustrator, no money to employ a second person to be tasked with this. Gov't helped the banks out and now find the money by cutting down on us !
Does anyone know how to work with Freehand and Flash, CS3 I gather will open fh9 files (I still use FH9 as I prefer its interface 3 doesnt look like an 8 etc, data entry windows a decent size. )
Will CS4 open fh9, ...will it open .fh11 ?

Sad to hear that. I just began working with CS4 and found that copy paste from FreeHand to Flash CS4 works fine. Hope I never need to badgrade to CS5.

First off, nice blog site you have. Very informative on the
Adobe-Freehand issue over the last few years.
Secondly, I was more frustrated by the interview than I was
appeased. Corporate Adobe seems more at fault than Terry Hemphill,
who I felt was only toe-ing that corporate line. Comments like
these don't help me feel confident when I am looking at keeping my
FH workflow:
— "Adobe will continue to evaluate the demand for
FreeHand before bringing the product to end-of-life. It's not our
intention to force people into another solution."
— "Freehand is not going to be revived; time to move
on, really. The Illustrator team is making a determined effort to
bring the best of FreeHand into Illustrator, which should be
evident from some of the new features in CS4."
— "Official line -- we don't comment on future
development plans."
— "Illustrator's integration with other Adobe tools and
presence as the industry standard application for designing vector

— "Special upgrade pricing for owners of FreeHand who

From the interview, I see AI now has Multiple Artboards
(nice) and working on Clipping Masks in this latest AI version, but
like FH Addict says, CS6 may be the earliest I ever upgrade. You
have a ways to go yet.
(Message to AI team, get the simplicity of FH tools and
workflow, not the bloat I see. Make a REAL effort to create the FH
workspace within AI. Keep it a separate interface from your
Illustrator Users if you want, but show me the familiar interface
and tools when Freehand was your competitor.)

Why Adobe not sponsor (FreeHand)?

I'm a senior graphic designer and I work in a cosmetics company.
I work using many Graphic software like (Adobe photoshop, InDesign, Audition, Illustrator and 3Ds max, 3D Maya ... etc.) on Mac OS and Windows.
My problem that I was work using (Macromedia Free Hand) for many years and this software was an important partner and part and parcel in progress and success in my work.
That was until your great and decent company has done a deal to buy Macromedia company software then stopped after this a wonderful software (Free Hand).
The question that arises why has this software stopped?
This software is very easy and flexible and faster than the other softwares in the same class It only lacks a few things to become the most powerful software in its class.
It is not only my opinion but many other Designers as well who suffer from other softwares who forced to work with it.
We have a history of our formal designs that well be lost sooner if (Free hand) is not back once more. because he no longer works on Mac os 10:10 and (Fh11) format no longer Known from other softwares.
We dream that your great and decent company responds for many Graphic Designers and Launch (Adobe Free Hand) software to become the strongest, the newest and the fastest software in the vector world.
We need that software strongly and we have a great hope in your decent company that makes our future better.
I know that my opinion is simple, but i'm sure they'll find an ear to hear and a mind to understand our needs.

Did latest Mac 10.5.8 update kill Freehand?

Long time FH user, didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard specifically to keep FH running. It's been humming along on my MacBook Pro for 2 years. Yesterday I allowed an automatic Apple system update as I do all the time and now Freehand will no longer start. The icon bounces around in the dock as if it's starting, settles, but never opens on the desktop. Right click on the icon shows 'application not responding.' So I uninstalled/reinstalled, repaired permissions, tried to open on another user account. No luck. Anyone have any ideas? I'm seriously going to have to find an old Tiger Mac just to open my files and convert to Illustrator if I can't get this resolved.

A few questions...
What is this "combo update" to 10.5.8 you are referring to if I reinstall Leopard?
Will reinstalling OS require reinstalling all of my others apps?
Do you know if FH will run on 10.6? Thinking of buying a new Mac just to run FH.
Is there any way to open a FH file not saved as .eps in Illustrator?
I am running 10.5.8 on my Mac Pro Quad and FreeHand runs fine but that was because I cloned my main hard drive onto another drive before I erased the main drive. I installed Leopard and ran the combo update for 10.5.8. (Basically the combo update is all previous 10.5 updates in one installer.)
The old apps can be brought back to the "fresh" main drive through Migration Assistant but I chose to reinstall them by hand including FreeHand just in case. A bit of a hassle but at least everything is running smoothly and I discovered online updates to my graphics software that I hadn't installed before. Plus it feels good to have a clean system.
A big YES on running FreeHand on 10.6! The only catch is you need to download Adobe's patch to the registration problem: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/504/cpsid_50468.html
If you have illustrator CS4 or 5 you can open a native FreeHand file but it won't always be the same. If you have editable text or gradients or type-on-a-path, these will come out garbled and broken. Look at what happened to my artwork: http://freefreehand.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8#p25

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking for any info on the comittment to support Windows 7 once it is out.
The fact that LR works okay for me on the beta, it seems okay to me.
If there is an official or semi official "LR works with W7, but with the following known issues.....", then I know how far to push the software, and whether I need to keep a Vista machine running a little longer until the issues are fixed in an upcoming (Oct onwards) update to LR.

Firefox update and Adobe are killing each other.

I have tried since i dled the new firefox to unistall and use other suggestions here to fix this issue. Nothin unistalled all the way redid jack squat. All i care about is a fix for it to work.
64 bit windows 7
with 4gb ram
ANY freaking good idea on how to fix this perfecto sides a link to the unistall reinstall thing. The main page that does that sucks donkey!

Adobe Updater kills Safari

The Adobe updater cranked up about an hour ago and wanted to install an After Effects patch. I was requested to quit Safari to do it. I did. The patch installed OK. Safari now cannot find any URL. Enter any URL and only blank shows.

I use a lot of softwares like ms word, excel, power point, and design softwares like freehand max, photoshot, illustrator , can these be installed in ipad 2? Does ipad 2 have a cd drive or a pen drive slot? Can it burn cds/ dvds?

Microsoft will formally kill the Mac version of Internet Explorer on 31 January 2006, the software giant has admitted.
The software's been moribund since June 2003, of course, when the company said it would no longer develop the code. At the time, it said it would stop supporting the product in 2005, and indeed, the appropriate product page on its website says support will stop on 31 December.
