Adobe open encrypted PDF with expired certificate

Hi,
I encrypt and sign documents with certificates. To do this I use a script and the little program "jsignpdf". The certificates are stored in windows certificate store on the client.This works fine!
The problem is that Adobe Reader (10/11) open the encrypted PDF also when the certificate is expired. I don't find any option to change that.
Has anbody an idea to solve my problem?
The clients have windows vista and Adobe Reader 10. But  Adobe Reader11 have the same problem.
Thanks
Steven

If you are signing with Acrobat, you have the choice of whether to include revocation information. See Establish long-term signature validation in http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/validating-digital-signatures.html.

  • Encrypt pdf with trusted certificates on acrobat pro xi

    Hi all,
    I'm supporting a user who used to encrypt documents with trusted identities (*.fdf) on Acrobat X.
    Now on Acrobat XI, when trying to encrypt a document, he can't used trusted identities. It seems like Acrobat XI only allow encryption from Digital ID (imported from *.pfx)
    Is this correct? Any way we can encrypt on Acrobat XI with trusted identities?
    Thanks.
    Welly

    Hi Welly,
    A digital ID (a P12 or PFX file) consists of three parts; a Public-Key Certificate, the public key, and the private key. The Public-Key Certificate (PKC) is the textual portion that you see in a certificate viewer and contains stuff like the user's name (aka the Subject), the issuers name, validity dates, serial number. etc. The two keys (public and private) have a symbiotic relationship when what one key locks (encrypts) only the corresponding other key can unlock (decrypt). Either key can be used to lock (encrypt) data, but whichever is used the data has to be unlocked (decrypted) using the other key.
    If the file doesn't contain the private key, but just has the PKC and the public key then that is known as a certificate file. Certificate files can be shared with the world, where as a digital ID file is only for use by one person. A certificate file can be view by anyone, but a digital ID file is either password or PIN protected.
    That said, when it comes to encrypting a PDF file using Certificate Security the file is encrypted using one or more certificate files, and only the certificate file is used. However, during the encryption process Acrobat asks the user to select one of their own digital IDs to use in order to keep from locking them out of the file. In reality Acrobat only want access to the public-key portion of the file for the encryption process, but it asks the user to select their digital ID to start. You can elect not to use your own digital ID and skip to the portion where you select the public key certificate of the recipients, and if you know to do so you can select your own, but when it comes time to get back into the file you have to have the private key to decrypt the file and that means you have to have access to the digital ID file. It doesn't make a lot of sense that you would encrypt the file for yourself and not already have the digital ID loaded.
    As far and certificate files go, they can be shared in either the FDF format, the CER file format, or the P7B file format. The format of the file is just the transport mechanism to distribute the public key.

  • Having trouble opening a pdf with Adobe...keep seeing an error sign "acroExch"  does anyone have a way to fix this?

    Having trouble opening a pdf with Adobe...keep seeing an error sign "acroExch"  does anyone have a way to fix this?

    Hmm, "Use Adobe Reader" should launch the PDF outside of Firefox in the stand-alone Adobe Reader application, so seeing it in a tab is something of a puzzle.
    Could you check your version of Adobe Reader? For Windows 7, you normally would have the Reader XI series (Reader 11), which has had several updates. From inside Adobe Reader, you can use Help > Check for Updates to make sure it's current.
    In Firefox, could you check your Adobe Acrobat plugin version or possibly versions? You can view that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins. If you find multiple versions, this can cause problems and may need to be cleaned up manually (post back on that for suggestions).
    Sometimes, the settings file which stores those download handler preferences becomes corrupted and there's not much else to do than to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it.
    To do that, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
    In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a new window (Windows Explorer window) listing various settings files.
    Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * (menu bar) File > Exit
    Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
    Start Firefox back up again and "PDF Files" should be back to their default setting of "Preview in Firefox". Try changing that to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and test to see whether there's any improvement.

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
    Try turning off the Protected View under Edit > Preferences >Security (Enhanced) in Adobe Reader.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I disable Adobe opening my pdfs

    Hi,
    I recently clicked "yes" to a pop-up window that asked "Open all pdfs with Adobe Reader?"
    I would like to turn off or disable this, so that when I click on a pdf it isn't automatically opened through Adobe Reader. How can I disable it?
    I have Adobe Reader 10.0.0 and use a Mac with Mac OX 10.6.8.
    Thank you!
    Kim

    Thank you, but when I control click, I don't get a "get info" option. However, a drop down menu pops up with these options:
    add sticky notes
    select tool
    hand tool
    marquee zoom
    previous view
    rotate clockwise
    print
    find
    document properties
    page display preferences
    When I click on "page display preferences, another window with many options pops up, but none of them seem to relate to "open with."
    Any other ideas?
    Thank you!

  • Why won't Adobe open a Pdf? Why do I pay for a service that will not open a pdf?

    Why won't Adobe open a Pdf? Why do I pay for a service that will not open a pdf?

    Maybe you could supply us with more details about what exactly you are doing, how you are doing and what you are using to do it.
    The reason I say this is because you are in the forum for Adobe Reader which is a FREE application and not a service.

    Hi  Bruce,
    Are you using EMET Antivirus? I have seen the issue caused due to this. Try disabling it and  check.
    I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
    The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
    Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
    In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
    The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
    Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

    I've a portal application. In a class, I call to one Bapi, and this Bapi return a table and I keep the table into a model. I want open a pdf with my model.
    How can I do it? What are the java import?

    Hi Jens,
    I'm developing a portar archive (.par).
    This is the code by which I call the BAPI and it gives back to me the model:

                        if (!this.getendda().equals(""))
                        {funcion.getImportParameterList().setValue(this.getendda(),"JENDDA");}
                        miCliente.execute(funcion);
                    com.sap.mw.jco.JCO.Table out = funcion.getTableParameterList().getTable("OUT");
                        com.sap.mw.jco.JCO.Field retorno = funcion.getExportParameterList().getField("RETURN_CODE");
                    for(int i = 0; i < out.getNumRows(); i++)
                        { out.setRow(i);
                          fila.addElement(out.getString("CODIGO"));
                          fila.addElement(out.getString("NOMBRE"));
                          tabla.addElement(fila);
                      fila = new Vector();
                         Vector nombreColumnas = new Vector();
                          nombreColumnas.addElement("Código Empresa");
                      nombreColumnas.addElement("Nombre o razón social");
                       modelo = new DefaultTableViewModel(tabla, nombreColumnas);

  • The way to open 3D pdf with specific model selection from url link

    I guess this feature is not supported, but let me ask one thing.
    I am looking for the way to open 3D pdf with specific model selection from url link.
    For example, if the following link is opened, is it possoble to open 3d.pdf with automatic selection of "abc" model in the model tree?
    http://example.org/3d.pdf#model=abc
    If it can be done by javascript, it's really helpful.

    Impossible. There are only very limited command-line options for the Acrobat Family and you cannot change them.

  • Permissions with problem when encrypting pdf with certificate

    I am using the following javascript code to encrypt a pdf using a certificate:
                        var thePermissions = {
                             allowAll: false,
                             allowAccessibility: false,
                             allowContentExtraction: false,
                             allowChanges: "none",
                             allowPrinting: "none"
                         var theCertificate = security.importFromFile(
                             "Certificate",
                             "/c/user.cer"
                         var theUserEntity = {
                             firstName: "The",
                             lastName: "User",
                             fullName: "The User",
                             certificates: theCertificate,
                             defaultEncryptCert: theCertificate
                         var theGroup = { userEntities: [ theUserEntity ], permissions: thePermissions };
                         encryptForRecipients( { oGroups: [ theGroup ] } );
                        saveAs("encrypted.pdf");
    The file "encrypted.pdf" resulting is in fact encrypted, but the permissions doesn't seem to be correct. For instance, the Document Properties show that there are no document restrictions (DocumentProperties.PNG), but when the details are shown, it seems that the correct restrictions apply (DocumentSecurity.PNG). As can be seen in the permissions variable, there should be no permissions to the pdf generated. Can someone possibly help me with this?
    Additional info: there should have no human interaction in the process, the certificate is not fixed (preventing using encryptUsingPolicy), and will be selected based on the file name of the original pdf.

    Hi Leonard,
    I see the same thing executing the script from the JavaScript console. There is a slight wrinkle in the steps to reproduce. Even if everything worked as it's supposed to, you would still need to close and then reopen the file in order to get the perm restrictions to take effect. This is because when you initially encrypt the file you are still the document owner, and thus none of the perms have yet taken effect. However, once you do close and then reopen the file (thus forcing an authentication), the file should open with the perms being enforced, but alas, they are not.
    Interestingly, if you go into the Document Properties and then select the Security tab (or just click the Permissions Details button in the DMB) you see that the Restriction Summary shows that everything is allowed, but when you click the Show Details button, which just displays the restrictions applicable to the encryption handler, it shows the correct settings. Of course the real bug isn't that the restriction summary is incorrect, but rather that it is correct and all of the supposedly restricted operations are allowable.
    I'll enter this as a bug against 10 along with the ER to add the encryption algorithm as an option to the encryptForRecipients JS function.

  • Adobe 9.5.5 crashes on attempt to open encrypted pdf

    Quoting from online chat that was unsuccessful in resolving this(these) question(s)
    Fred: The sender said
      Fred: The senter of the document says "After all voting selections have been made to the ballot, CLICK on the red “Click Here to Finalize Selections” button located on the Ballot Image at the top or bottom right hand corner. By clicking the red “Click Here to Finalize Selections” button on the ballot image, it will generate a PDF of all needed materials which include your FPCA Voter Instructions, Declared Write-In candidates, if applicable, Security Envelope, Carrier Envelope and your personal Ballot. Note: you WILL NOT be able to get back into the program if you have already clicked to finalize your selections button. After clicking “Click Here to Finalize Selections” button, the generated PDF will ask you to click Open or Save, please CLICK Save As and then specify the save location onto your computer. "
      Fred: is there an online service I can use to do that?
    It should be noted that the system is 64 bit Linux (Mageia 3), and Arcobat 9.5.5 is the newest version available for that system.  Also, 9.5.5 seems to be able to handle "normal" pdf files without a problem, on this OS.
    Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer
    Regards
    Fred James

    OS: Mageia 3 64-bit, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.5.5 (latest version available for this OS ... normally works for Adobe Acrobat PDF files (protable document files ... as in created by Adobe Acrobat)
    I was sent an encrypted PDF file, which I was instructed to
         download and save
         open the downloaded file
         fill in the file (mouse clicks)
         and "finalize" the file (mouse click)
         and when the option was offered, save the resulting file
    This is supposed to then generate some additional pages of information, also in PDF format.
    Problem ... attempting to open this downloaded, encrypted PDF, crashes the Acrobat Reader (9.5.5).  To be specific
         open Acrobat Reader
         File -> Open
         select the file in question
         click open
         Acrobat Reader closes/vanishes from the screen.
