Adobe Patching / Versioning / sanity checks...
All right... Psyche... Unlike the title, it seems Adobe knows nothing of these things... Am about to lose the plot with Adobe nothing anywhere, ever, should be as tiresome and soul sucking as not only over-frequent patching cycles, but the seemingly infinitely deep capacity for Adobe to make it neigh on impossible to maintain a linear and eloquent patch maintenance plan...
I can't figure out is that despite their OOB patches, their security updates and their major quarterlies... I would assume that these patches would all likely affect the same files... e.g. the Quarterlies would have all the rollup / cumulative patches of the interim OOB, security patches... Why then is it always a case of one patch type breaking another??? Wouldn't it be easier to do some sort of hash or version check so that any increased or newer patch could be applied to an older source... Sure it might mean patches might get a little bigger, but it would also mean that I wouldn't have to start at a raw .msi and patch up incrementally if I would like to have the most recent patches available at any given time...
Have a GPO deployed Reader 9.3.4... Got the 9.4 package and patched the original 9.1 msi up to 9.4, as there was no way I could seemingly get it to apply to my 9.3.4 distribution point...
Now I get the message...
"Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate..."
Hmm... Last I checked 9.4 > 9.3.4 according to standard versioning rules???
Any ideas because I grow weary of this fiasco?
If you're pushing the install via GPO or SCCM and having problems, check your event logs. I ran into these messages when trying to use the MUI from the "official" patch page:
Product: Adobe Reader 9.1 MUI -- Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate.
Confirmed that I was using the 9.4.0 files, so clearly something didn't get updated by Adobe on the versioning.
Once I grabbed the exe off the FTP, pulled out the install files, updated our mst mods, updated packages, and pushed via SCCM, the update worked fine.
This also begs the question why Reader needs what amounts to a reinstall as opposed to Acrobat getting just an MSP this time around. I'd love to know.

I have MAC OSX 10.5.8 and need to install adobe illustrator. I checked the compatibility and found that CS5 will work.Can any one help where i can find it. The trail version is fine with me as i just have to use it for couple of days till i get my mac book back from service. Can any one help me on this.

To elaborate a bit, you may come across offers of a new/unopened/unregistered version, which is the simplest case (you would need a guarantee). Other cases require much detailed information (and a guarantee).
If upgrading to 10.6.8 or higher is an option, you could use CS6. -
How to check that same Oracle software versions(including patch versions)
How to check that same Oracle software versions(including patch versions) is installed on two hosts(machines) ?
We are using following process:
On Host A :
1) Get the Oracle version using SQLPlus -v
From this output, extract the version number.
2)Find the patches installed using opatch lsinventory -detail
From the output , Extract the Patch numbers and Bugs fixed.
3) Store the version , patch and bugs information in a common file.
On Host B :
Repeat the steps 1 and 2 and compare with the values from Host A.
Please let us know if there is any other method to do this.
Thanks.This is wrong: for Oracle Database version 10.2.0.4 *4* identifies the patch set and does not give information about interim patchs.
It is correct to use opatch lsinventory to get interim patchs.

Can't use or install Adobe Air version 3.5.0.600
Hi,
I am stuck following issues when BBC Iplayer upgraded AIR to version 3.5.0.600 last week which it is not compatible with and now they have asked us to roll back to earlier version.
I have throroughly read forum Posts and have already tried the following as administrator.
Control Panel / uninstall
commandline AdobeAIRInstaller.exe -uninstall
I have tried using microsoft fix it but AIR was not listed ... I tried entering the ID from the install.log file but that didnt work either {14DC0059-00F1-4F62-BD1A-AB23CD51A95E}.
I can now neither install or uninstall the air program and it does not work properly.
I have successfully uninstalled Iplayer bur cannot reinstall
The air install log file is attached.
Grateful for any help you can give.

JasonXI Pro contains all of the capabilities of Reader and a lot more. If you can't see the PDF, you may have the view in browser unchecked in Acrobat, or more likely your Acrobat is not updated to be compatible with the version of IE you are using (You did not mention). There may also be an issue with the OS you are running that could vary between computers (also not mentioned). First thing to do is to go to Help>Updates and be sure you are running 11.0.09. Then check the preferences (check the Internet tab).

By profession i am online trafficker, and because of the fact that
our Flash Creative Designer has gone on a leave, i therefore
stumble upon with a challenge of inserting a "clickTag" in a flash
banner.
Here my expertise stands null, but yeah offocurse i did try
many options but no result.
So guys help me in this, what i wish to know the exact step
by step procedure to insert a "clickTag" in a Flash banner for both
Flash MX version 6 & Adobe CS3 version.

Adobe's fault. It's that most of the hosting sites have cold feet
(IMHO) and fear that they'll have viewers who don't have the latest
version which means their advertisers won't get the most bang for
their buck.
I keep waiting for them to at least increase the max
allowable player version to FP8... but I have not seen that yet...
will keep my fingers crossed that it happens soon. But what it
boils down to is that you need to check with the hosting site
before designing a banner so that you don't include filters (FP8)
or use AS3 (FP9) if they are not supporting those players

Yes, you can delete the source zips. just be warned, that later updates may check this stuff and fail if they don't find those files and a full reinstall may therefore be necessary.

Mismatch between the patch version
Version 2.18, next step, next issue. Got through the 'Do Setup' step on "9-Apply DBA CUP and related patches" with a bug workaround that was provided. Now went to the next step of 'Do Execute' and it is failing with the message below. I've done some inital searching and haven't found an answer. There was one note on MOS about a very similar issue but it was resolved in 2.16. Posting here whild I spend more time researching and trying to figure out the reason. I also reviewed my notes from when I did this upgrade manually and these mereged patches were not applied in preinstall mode as the message is saying has to be done. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks!.

I don't know your more details about how you pretend to deploy your Adobe Reader but I did this to my current deployment and many people on the company are happy with this:
1- I extracted the contents from the Adobe Reader installer.
2- I modified the MSI using Customization Wizard to hide some menus (Maybe you can skip this step if you don't need to customize it)
3- On SCCM 2012 I created a Script deployment with a CMD file which contains the following command for silent install. (You don't need to have an SCCM infrastructure to deploy it but it will help)
start /wait msiexec /i "%~dp0AcroRead.msi" /q TRANSFORMS="%~dp0AcroRead.mst" PATCH="%~dp0AdbeRdrUpd11001_MUI.msp;%~dp0AdbeRdrSecUpd11002.msp"

- On my case I used %~dp0 because I'm installing from a server caching files on client machines but if you pretend to test and install it locally avoid using: %~dp0 and put your absolut path. Like C:\Temp or your MSI and source files location.
- Start /wait - Will execute your MSI installer file and then once is finished will proceed with the next command if any.
- Transforms- will force the MSI to apply the custom settings I did on Customization Wizard)
- PATCH- command will proceed to install the patches you may have at the moment 11.0.1, 11.0.2, etc...

I am running Webaccess on a Windows 2003 server (IIS and Tomcat), connecting back to a Webacess agent on Novell.
I believe I have 7.0.3 hp 3 installed, but can only see that it's 7.0.3 (by clicking the icon on the webaccess page).
How do I confirm the hot patch version.

Adobe Reader version 8 and Apple PDF files
Since installing the Adobe Reader version 8.0, I cannot view any PDF files within Safari from the Apple document web pages (I have not yet tried other sources). All I get is the spinning beach ball, and have to Force Quit Safari, which is described as "not responding." I can view on the Reaader PDF files downloaded with Safari, but the plug-in that lets you view PDF files within Safari does not seem to be working with the new Reader version 8.0.
Thanks for the reply. I had that option checked when the problem occurred. The problem only occurs on the Apple Customer Service website. I can view PDF files with the Reader v.8.0 on other sites.
I downloaded the PDF Browser and deselected the Reader option you suggested. PDF Browser works fine and I think I will stick with that program. -
Adobe Reader Version 11.0.11 Won't allow me to save pfd after amendments
We are currently using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10.
When we open and existing pdf file then make any changes (using the Fill & Sign Tab at the top right hand side) then click Save it won't save the file. We have to re-name the file in order to save it.
This was working ok back in January and wondered if there has been an up-date since then that has made this error occur?

Could you please try unchecking 'Enable Protected Mode' option under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and then check again.

According to the findutils manual one should file a bug report for this message, but I don't think they expect glibc to be the buggy implementation of fnmatch that looks enough like the GNU version to fool configure, but which doesn't work properly.
Does anybody experience similar problems? Does anybody have suggestions how to solve this?
Last edited by auti (2014-02-13 22:14:12)I've regenerated the locales multiple times but only the upgrade to findutils 4.5.12 worked.
glibc 2.19-2 works with the current findutils.
But if a corrupt locale archive file caused this, why didn't findutils 4.5.12 complained about this?
