Adobe PDF 8.0 shows up in Add Printer Window

According to some KB documents Apple changed some things in 10.6 regarding PDFs. This is from Adobe.
"Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6)'s enhanced security features prevent Adobe's PDF Printer from functioning as it did in previous versions. As a result Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1 removes the Adobe PDF Printer and adds a new Save as Adobe PDF function. Customers using earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat will find that the Adobe PDF Printer is unusable when running on Snow Leopard."
Ok, that's fine. It works for my needs but my question is this. "Adobe PDF 8.0" shows up in the "Add Printer" window in the System Prefs. From a house keeping perspective, I'd like to remove it but can't seem to find where it is. Searching is no use, nothing comes up. Where does it reside? Library Folder? System Folder?
Thanks for the anticipated help.
Tom

The first thing to remember when you're dealing with Adobe is never to believe anything Adobe tells you. Their support (if that's even an appropriate term) is either nonexistent or incompetent. Take a look at some of the Adobe forums to get a clearer idea of how low Adobe has sunk. BTW, their Better Business Rating is now a D.

For many years, Adobe has gone their own way with their software installers. They will drop font files in unexpected places, add extraneous devices without your permission, and, as you have discovered, install printer drivers that can't be removed easily. Since Apple has tightened security with Snow Leopard, Adobe can no longer get away with fast and loose messing with your system. The problem here is entirely Adobe's because they won't play by the rules that every other software developer abides by. Don't believe them when they tell you that it's Apple's fault.

Adobe Reader if always free. Acrobat requires a purchase.
Also Acrobat X has different UI, there is usually a floating toolbar that can be used to open the full toolbar.

  • Canon MP210 just will not show up in Add Printer

Trying to help a friend get new (to her) printer added in OS 10.5.8... There isn't even a network involved, just trying to add it as simple USB.
It's a Canon Pixma MP210 and wasn't in the printer descrips, so i downloaded and installed the most recent driver for it from Canon, which is noted as good for 10.5 etc (and is CUPs to boot).
its Installer runs just fine... but printer still does not show up in Add Printer, despite restarts, printer attached, not attached, whatever. printer is not in list, "Print Using..." shows no options, and "Add" is greyed out.
The printer itself was never used by its former owner, it's like new, so it's not likely broken.
i attempted to repair permissions, and ran into no-go there too. It sticks on acquiring the database, doesn't even get to a progress bar (let it run for almost an hour, no change). Same thing when i start it up/run repair permissions from retail OS 10.5 DVD.
And this on a smallish (60GB) hard drive that has barely anything on it ....she mostly just websurfs and emails. Tho the finder is a bit slow, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the mac (it's an iBook G4) and it passes disk first aid fine.
    Suggestions?

Any idea why Permissions Repair doesn't progress, neither from hard disk nor from DVD? From other posts i've researched here, repaired permissions apparently allowed some canon printers to show themselves.
If Repair Permissions is not completing then something would be amiss with the OS. But I've never a repair permissions resolve a printer not appearing in the Default browser view. It could certainly fix an issue with the printer being seen but the driver not being found. But for the printer not to be visible in the Default view when it is connected to the Mac via USB, then I don't believe a permissions repair will resolve this - especially also if the printer is not visible in System Profiler. Personally I found a reset of the printing system rather than a repair disk permissions to be more helpful.

Just upgraded to snow leopard, downloader apple support drivers for canon mp620.  Why won't a printer list display in add printer window?

Assuming the MP620 is connected to your wireless network, then there are two components to this device - the printer and the scanner. The printer uses Canon proprietary software while the scanner is supported by Apple's Bonjour service. So in many cases, you will at least see the scanner, shown as Bonjour Scanner in the Kind column, while the printer can take longer to appear and is shown as canonijnetwork in the Kind column. If you cannot see either then you have a network issue. Try turning off the MP620 for a minute and then turning back on. Then see if the scanner / printer component appears in the Add Printer window. If you still don't see either, then confirm the MP and the Mac are using the same network. If you know the MP's IP address you can use Network Utility to Ping the address. You can also enable Bonjour Bookmarks in Safari preferences and when selected, the MP620 should appear.

  • Word 2007 "Save as Adobe PDF" - Pictures not showing up in PDF

    Good Afternoon,
I have run into this error recently when using the "Save as Adobe PDF" to publish Word 2007 report.
Each report has an table - pasted from Excel 2007 "as a picture - when printed". The reports have a ton of other jpg pictures.
After creation, when I open the PDF, some of the tables appear to have become transparent. Where the picture used to be is a selection box, as if there were a picture there, but it's merely blank. All of the photos, frames, and Word-based tables show up. Some of the pasted-from-Excel tables also show up, not these ones.
Is there a reason for this discrepency? Is there a way to resolve the issue? I used the search bar and found nothing that matched my issue. All of my software is up to date.
Thank you for whatever help you can provide.
    J

did you ever solve this issue? I have the same problem and "view large images" is the only answer I can find and it DOES NOT WORK.
I posted the question elsewhere, but nobody has replied. here's my situation:
When creating PDF documents from any software (Illustrator, Corel, InDesign, etc), color objects over 50% of the page size have white fill. If object has an outline, the outline will appear normally, but the fill will be white. I've searched forums everywhere and have found no answer. Most forum topics on this are issue focus on settings in the program that exported the PDF. I am 100% sure this is not an export problem, but is something in Acrobat itself (a missed setting? Corrupt program file?)
To provide the best information, I've done a little scientific research. Here is what I know:
    Currently running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5
This is only happening on ONE install of Acrobat 9. Documents display correctly in Reader X and in Acrobat 9 on other machines.
Started happening a few weeks ago, I have no idea what changed.
"Show Large Images" in preferences dialog is checked. Unchecking it and rechecking it does nothing.
Have installed all available updates to the software
I experimented with different object sizes. At 50% of page size, objects appeared normal, at 51% filled object disappears.
Does not affect photos, only affects vector objects.
running this on Windows Vista 64 Bit

  • Converting MS Publisher to Adobe PDF, Images Not Showing

Hi, I have Professional Plus, version 11. I am trying to convert a newsletter created in MS Publisher to an Adobe PDF, but when I do this, the images do not show up. They may show on some pages but not others. I have already contacted MS support, but they say the issue is with Adobe. I have tried updating to the latest version but am still not having any luck. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a fix for it?

Contemporary releases of Acrobat do not provide a PDFMaker for MS Publisher.
If Acrobat is installed you can "file - print" using the installed Adobe PDF virtual printer which will provide a PDF.
However, this PDF will have no "interactivity". Using the virtual printer is like printing to paper only the "imprint" lands on a PDF page rather than a paper page.
The other way to get a PDF is to us the Microsoft process built into contemporary releases of MS Publisher.
Of course this being a Microsoft process any questions or issues associated with its use must be taken up with Microsoft eh.
That images do not pass through to PDF is almost *always* due to a configuration issue back in the MS application (Word, Publisher, etc.)
Regardless, poke about in the user configuration settings for Publisher and in Acrobat (Edit - Preferences).
    Be well...

  • PDF no longer shows up as a printer

I found a 2009 question here that said it has to do with either Windows or Acrobat updates, but I couldn't find the solution on the site the answer linked to.
I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro in Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and I just installed some updates. I want to print a webpage as a PDF. How do I get Acrobat listed as a printer again?

    Thanks, the problem is solved.
I never had trouble opening Acrobat or the Print dialog box when I clicked on the printer icon. I rebooted, as you suggested, and the PDF printer still didn't show up, but this time when I went into the Print dialog box I think I clicked on Find Printer, then Add a local printer and then Create a new port and chose as Type of port Adobe PDF Port Monitor. Acrobat updated itself after I did that. I guess it wasn't one of the programs that had just updated when the problem happened.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Canon ir c3380 driver doesn't show up in "Add printer"

After installing Mac OS X v10.6. My Canon IR C3380 no longer shows up. I've uninstalled all previous canon drivers per PAHU's direction and installed the latest driver found on Canon's website UFRII_v2.21. Still no luck when I try to add the printer. There's a list of canon drivers that shows up "add printer" dialog box, but the 3380 is not part of that list. Thanks in advance for any input and help!

    Hello Ben,
Based on your posting I believe that you are expecting to see the iR C3380 in the Default Add Printer view. This will not occur with OS X 10.6 because the AppleTalk protocol, which was responsible for making the printer appear in the Default view, is no longer supported on OS X 10.6.
So to add the iR C3380 on OS X 10.6 you will need to use the IP > LPD protocol. This means that the iR C3380 will need to have a valid IP address registered for your network. If you know the IP address then you can add the queue by selecting the IP icon and then changing the menu to LPD. You can then enter the IP address of the iR C3380, leave the queue name blank and then in the Print Using menu, select the "Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II (UK)".

  • Printer not showing up on add printer

We have a network of both PCs and Macs and a central Sharp Copier.  We have the latest driver for Yosemite but the copier is not showing up in the add printer list.  When we try setting the Macs up through the IP menu it says unable to verify printer, etc.
The printer sets up fine on the PCs.
The printer IP shows up on an IP scanner but not on our Motorolla Router/Modem from our ISP (Broighthouse).
The Sharp guys have been out here and have determined the issue is not on the printer side and suggested contacting Apple.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Ok...so I have solved my problem. The new router was blocking port 631. I forward this port to the desktop ip address and all is well in windows printing land.

  • Printer NOT showing up in "ADD PRINTER"

    Hi,
I am installing the software for HP Officejet Pro 8610.  I am at the section where I must create a print queue. I followed the instructions and clicked the "Add Printer" button. It says a dialog will appear listing available printers on my local network.
Well the box came up and there is nothing in it. It says in the instructions that "It may take a few moments for your printer to appear in the list." However, I have waited for a VERY long time and nothing is coming up.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @kbyers117
I saw your post about the issues you are having with installing your Officejet 8610 on your Mac.
Please let me know which Mac OS X you are running, and how you are connecting the printer to your computer (usb, wireless, or ethernet).
I will then look into some steps to lend you a hand.

  • HT3500 I cannot connect Macbook (OS 10.6.8) to Epson XP 400 wirelessly. It works when connected to a USB cable. Both printer and Mac are on the same network and Norton/symantic is OFF. The Epson will not show up in "add printer". is off.

I cannot connect my Macbook to Epson printer XP 400. Both are on the same network and Symantic anti virus is disconneted.
Add printer does not find the Epson. All works when I use the USB cable.

Further information on my question about the epson wireless printer and macbook.
It seems that the epson xp-400 works wirelessly only with 802.11n wireless network not with 802.11g or earlier.
Does anyone else know about this. I read it on the epson support site for epson xp-400.
Also epson xp-400 will not work wirelessly if it is already connected to a computer with a USB cable.

  • Acrobat  adobe  pdf  does  not  show  up  canon  scanner  using

Hi-I have just installed adobe acrobat pro 6-the problem is i want to scan in some documents and turn them into PDF's but my adobe acrobat does not realise or show that i have a scanner (canon 5000F).I have contacted canon-and they suggested i downloaded some new software for the scanner but when i try and install the new softawre it will not install and just starts up the printer utility thing at the top. They also suggested i try to uninstall the drivers for the scanner first but again when i download the uninstall utility and try to run it it does not run/set up but just starts the printer utility thing again. How can i make adobe acrobat pro 6 realise i have a scanner so as i can scan in documents to turn them into PDF's ? Any suggestions plaese
    thanks
    rick

Concentrate on getting the scanner working without any Adobe software. Once you can scan to a file, any OSX program (except Adobe) that can read the file can generate PDF files via the Print command.
