Adobe PDF 9.0 printer gone after update

I just downloaded the most recent update for Acrobat Pro (something about English, French language). After the updater finished, I noticed that my PDF printer vanished. I tried to add it by going to print from Quark but couldn't find it. Tried the same thing thru Print and Fax in System Preferences. Can I uninstall the update that I did since it seemed to get rid of the PDF printer. If so, how do I go about doing it?

Your experience is common. Evidently there is a bug; that Adobe, nor Apple, has figured out. Or if either has, no one has bothered to announce what it is.
I think it has something to do with X.6 Snow Leopard is 64-Bit and maybe the automator action that is invoked in the print menu is 32-Bit and somehow its not compatible. But this is a theory of mine.
There may be some information on Adobe's Support page.
I don't understand either. I wish I could know maybe I could be better help.

Adobe PDF Printer gone after updating!?

Good afternoon,
My PDF Printer has literally disappeared after running the automatic update (9.4.4) early this morning.
In fact, the sequence has been like this:
1. Running InDesign so I keep on working on a project.
2. Adobe updater pops up
3. Since I was experimenting random and automatic "pauses" on the PDF printer, I decide it is a good idea to update in the hope this will fix the random pauses.
4. Work nice as always. PDF creation goes fine, however, random pauses did not go away. Doesn't care too much, at the end it takes only a split second to "resume" the printer back and you're done.
5. Out to lunch and back
6. Open same InDesign doc to perform corrections as addressed in client email
7. Go to print dialog box and... voila! PDF printer is gone...
So, at this point, I go to the printer Apple pref pane and surprisingly, there is NO PDF Printer at all.
Try to add one maually. Worthless, there is nothing to be added. I restart the iMac.
Once back in, try the same. Nothing to add.
Navigate through forums and the web and nothing seems to address such behavior.
I decide to reinstall Acrobat from scratch using the CD. That is, to downgrade. Back to normality. Annoyed, indeed,
So, Has anyone experienced such a thing? Any known solution?
What about the random "pauses" or standby?

Yesterday, in the meantime, I was in a hurry so I just decide to re-install Acrobat from scratch wich blew away the issue.
Seems like Acrobat 9.0.0 does well with MacOs 10.6.1
As far as I have reade in the links, I understand that there will be no more PDF Printer in the future, am I right?
And, I was just wondering, if it is so, we wont have to use Distiller anymore?
Guess I have to invest sometime on this.

Pdf printer gone after update

Hi,
I updated Acrobat X pro to version 10.1.4. and I cannot use Acrobat anymore : impossible to open a pdf file, no more pdf printer in excel or word, pdf converter in firefox does not work anymore.
How do I get it all back????

I guess you did not read the upgrade message from cups:
daemon srcript has been renamed to /etc/rc.d/cupsd
change your entry in /etc/rc.conf

This is the error that is received:

Sorry to say that, but the entire system seems ill-designed.
If I understand correctly, then to add a new Section to a site, you have to subclass SubSection and somewhow integrate that into the system?
I would be my expectation that you only need to subclass SubSection when you tried to introduce a new type of SubSection.
The title & all other natural language Strings should never be hardcoded in Java code, but rather taken from some external storage (Database, XML, flat files, ...).

I'm in prepress, working mainly with Quark XPress for advertising files and with Word, Photoshop, everything, for many years. My older computer is the workhorse with Quark 6.5 and CS4 and OSX 10.4.11. Everything is set up for me to produce PDF x1a files by printing .ps files from Quark and Word, and InDesign.
My newer computer, OSX 10.9.4, must now be used to a greater extent. So I have Quark 9 and 10 and now Creative Suite for the Cloud. But I don't have any Adobe PDF printer which I select when I print .ps files and place into my Distiller Watched Folder. I by pass selecting the Adobe PDF printer in Word and just print straight to .ps. The .ps file just sits in the Watched Folder and no longer flows into Distiller, processed and out. Is this the way of the future? I just want a smooth, fast flow for PDF's. I want them to be PDF x1a compliant for hi-quality printing.
Thought you might help to give me info as to how one uses Distiller (or not) with the new operating system and latest programs. Can't seem to find any info as of yet by searching the Adobe FAQ's and the Internet in general.

Yes, but.... as I've seen over in the Dreamweaver forums, software changes (functionality) are arbitrary, and subject to no logic at all. Things that are in CS6 aren't in CC, and even some things thatwere in CC at first are now gone, with no warning and no good reason.
Audition CC has all sorts of export problems, and people have had files permanently damaged using Photoshop CC.
If I screw up something on my own system, I own that mistake. I don't want to have to attribute it to something that's still in a "beta" stage as far as reliability goes. Especially at $240 to $480 a year.

Acrobat appears to be running just fine- I am running windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I don't know why it just didn't automatically install- I just replaced an older HD that was going bad. Copied my entire system using windows mirrow image. Adobe pdf converter was in my device and printer file before and now its's not. Although with most of the programs you can just save documents and spread sheets as PDFs, in Power Point, it does not allow you the option to save a slide as a PDF with the notes displayed in the PDF, only the slide is transformed to PDF, the notes do not show on them.
Goal: To have notes and slide saved as a PDF

You make not mention of Acrobat and what version you might have. For Office 2010 to do as you want, you need PDF Maker and will have to have AA X for Office 2010. To get the Adobe PDF printer you could install either AA9 or AAX in Win7. Some folks have been successful with AA8 in Win 7. If you don't have Acrobat, then it is time to order it.

If you are set up as a primary library you need to look in my tv shows.
When you say you have reinstalled everything, does that include itunes (if so how did you do that), does it include rebuilding your itunes library.

Adobe PDF 8.0 Printer not working

I have tried to use the Adobe PDF 8.0 printer but all it does is send the info to the printer and then the Queue stops. I have had a look at other forums and tried everything like deleting the printer and then going into acrobat and repairing it and repairing privileges. Still none of this works... I have run out of ideas.
I did note that in the Acrobat Professional manual that it mentions the following:

Now my print windows don't have this option or as latter described in the manual an option in the driver to change the PDF preset. I'm wondering if I am missing something. If somebody could please help it would be much appreciated.

FIXED IT!!! I worked out that all the problems came down to a single file in my preferences: ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.print.AdobePDF8/com.adobe.print.AdobePDF8.Defaults.xml now I opened it up and compared it to a version that was working... >** Excerpt from not working version ** ><dict> <key>com.adobe.print.AdobePDF.PrintSettings.PDFJobOptionsPath</key> <string>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/Test(1).joboptions</string> >** Excerpt from working version ** ><dict> <key>com.adobe.print.AdobePDF.PrintSettings.PDFJobOptionsPath</key> <string>default</string> I think what was going on was that the printer was trying to print to job options that either dont exist or dont work... It would stop the queue and also the printer didnt even have any PDF setting in the print dialog box. Now it works fine. So all you would have to do is delete the file, delete the printer from the print manager and then repair the printer from Acrobat and I should work fine!

Adobe PDF won't print non-working time colour in MS Project

Adobe PDF won't print the colour chosen for non-working times in MS Project. I have tried changing the colour, changing the style, moving non-working time in front of tasks and have fiddled with the printer properties, all to no avail. It ignores whatever style I have for non-working time and makes a blank space, although it will take gridline changes . . . . please help!

Thank you for providing the suggestion and the Cleanup tools, however they did not help.
I ran each version of the cleanup tool, and for each I had it clean up Reader and Acrobat (i.e. 4 separate cleanup operations). I then rebooted the machine, and installed Reader 11.0.3.
Still had the same behavior: Reader will not print. I tried printing to a second printer (that is attached via USB)...and it did not work either. I also tried printing to a Cute PDF Writer print driver...and that did not work either. In each case, no print data made it to the Windows print queue (as demonstrated by watching the queue while printing.) No error was raised, but no print data was transmitted.
I then uninstalled Reader 11.0.3, rebooted, and re-installed Reader 9: printing works fine now.
There is definitely something in Reader 10 and Reader 11 that breaks printing in some environments. (As you alluded to...I have seen a number of postings online about printing problems in Reader.)
More details about my environment:
Windows 7 Professional N (Version 6.1, Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
VMWare virtual machine
Two virtual CPUs (each: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz, 2673 Mhz, 1 core, 1 Logicial Processor)

My guess is that the apps were not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you did the update. Apps )and ther items like music)are nt in the backu that iTunes makes as the first step of the backup.
