Adobe PDF Druckertreiber erzeugt Postscript anstelle von pdf-Dateien

Beim Drucken kann man programmtechnisch den gewünschten Dateinamen in der DOCINFO-Struktur angeben.
Bisher habe ich Acrobat 4.0 genutzt (Druckertreiber: PDFWriter), um beim Drucken pdf-Dateien zu erzeugen.
Dieser Treiber erzeugte immer zwei Dateien: eine leere Datei und eine Datei mit der Erweiterung pdf.
Soweit war alles gut.
Seit der Installation von Acrobat 6.0 (Druckertreiber: Adobe PDF), erzeugt dieser Treiber nur noch eine Datei.
Aber egal ob ich eine Dateierweiterung angebe (.pdf, .tmp, .ps,...) oder nicht, ich bekomme immer nur eine Postscriptdatei,
die ich manuell dem Destiller vorwerfen muß.
Lasse ich den Dateinamen in besagter DOCINFO-Struktur leer, kommt der "PDF-Datei speichern unter"-Dialog und ich bekomme eine pdf-Datei.
Ich muß es aber vorgeben können!

ich habe das selbe Problem und muss ebenfalls eine Lösung finden. Gibt es schon neuere Erkenntnisse darüber. Interessanterweise verhält sich das Freewaretool PDFCreator ebenso. Dort gibt es noch die Möglichkeit, über den Jobnamen die PDF's automatisch generieren zu lassen, ist aber auch nicht so elegant zu lösen wie über die docinfo.

Hallo,
bisher nutze ich Adobe Acrobat 7.0 um .PDF Dateien aus .Doc Dateien zu erzeugen.
Allerdings dauert es bei einem 230 Seiten starken Dokument immerhin etwas über einer Stunde, bis das PDF erzeugt wurde.
Betriebssystem ist Windows XP, CPU ein Intel Q9400 und 3GB Arbeitsspeicher.
Würde es einen großen Unterschied in der Geschwindigkeit beim erzeugen von PDF Dokumenten machen, würde ich zur aktuellen Version 9.0 der Adobe Software aktualisieren?

Nun aber zum nächsten Problem
Ich habe mir nun einen Adobe Reader Prof. genommen eine Test PDF Datei erstellt (Cute PDF Writer) und habe die entsprechende Option "Funktionen in Adobe Reader erweitern" aktiviert. Daraufhin das Dokument gespeichert.
Als nächstes habe ich die PDF Datei auf einen Testrechner mit Adobe Reader XI kopiert und die Datei dort geöffnet - es erscheint:
Was mache ich falsch bzw. was muss ich ändern, damit diese Meldung nicht kommt und ich die Datei signieren kann?

Absatzformate: Sagt mir so erstmal nichts, gehe also nicht davon aus.
PDF Erstellung: Mit Latex (TexMaker und MikTex)
Verwendete Schriften im PDF Dokument: Arial/Times New Roman; müsste das allerdings nochmal genau nachsehen sobald ich von der Arbeit wieder da bin
Erlauben diese Schriften das einbetten, sagt mir leider nichts =(
Betrachten/Kontrollieren: Seit gestern Adobe Acrobat (eben gerade um die Konvertierung PDF -> Word vornehmen zu können)
Noch was zum Hintergrund: Ich schreibe zZ meine Abschlussarbeit (mit Latex), um meinem Betreuer das Korrekturlesen zu erleichtern wäre es von Vorteil neben dem PDF ein Word-Dok zu haben.

Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 vs PDF Xchange Viewer 2.5

I created a PDF document from a Word 2003 SP3 file using trial Adobe X Pro 10.0.0. The document properties shows PDF Producer as Acrobat Distiller 10.0.0 (Windows), Application as Acrobat PDFMaker 10.0 for Word and PDF Version as 1.6
The PDF created just fine without issues. The Word document was 101 pages and so is the PDF.
The issue I have is that when I print this document, the printer spool size is huge. I tested printing to a Ricoh Aficio 4000 MP printer with 3 different printer drivers, PCL 5e, PCL6 and Postscript 3.
The PDF size is 252KB and I used Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 to print the document.
The spool size generated is 119MB for PCL5e, 68.3MB for PCL6 and 7.84MB for Postscript 3.
I then printed the exact same report, using the freeware PDF Xchange Viewer 2.5 and my results were 6.34MB for PCL5e, 1.59MB for PCL6 and
5.68MB for Postscript 3.
The tests were done on my Windows XP SP3 32-bit laptop.
Can anyone explain why the huge difference in spool size? Has anyone had similar experience.

I would like to add that I neither favour Adobe Reader X nor PDF Xchange Viewer 2.5 over the other. Another reader may give different results too. I am only trying to find out what could cause this, which may help me resolve network bandwidth issues.

Converting Pages PostScript file to PDF

Can someone with a similar setup test this Pages PS file technique out and see if you can do it?
This was a tip from a Pages User/Blogger, as a way to get truer color printing of a Pages doc when moving it from the 3-color screen version to a four color commercial printer. He suggested saving the Pages file as Postscript, and then using Apple Preview, open and convert the Postscript to a PDF. I can't open the PS file with Preview, and it fails in the conversion to PDF. I get an error message: couldn't convert to a PDF/Couldn't open the file.
I contacted the Blogger; he was surprised it fails, given the long time use of PS and PDF files. He suggested that I ask someone with a set-up similar to mine to try this, and help me determine if it's my computer or the software that's failing (or me!). I'm working on a G-5, with OS 10.4.8, and Pages 2.02.
(Note, I've also tried doing this through Adobe Distiller, and that doesn't work either. That it fails in Preview seems to say to me that it's not just a problem with the version or settings in Adobe PRo/Distiller, but perhaps with Pages?).

It turned out that my two posted issues were related. The table on page one that was raising havoc with header and footers was also causing the PS to PDF conversion problems as well. I still have to resolve the table issue, but at least you helped me recognize where the printing issue was coming from!

...other than Acrobat, that is.
I am gathering enough courage to start modifying and creating something that hopefully will resemble a valid PDF file. I already did this years ago, with PostScript files. How much harder can it be?

When Adobe has a product already capable of performing a certain function, they usually won't "sanction" a 3rd party utility that performs the same function. That just plain doesn't make any business sense.
The only other tool Adobe releases that will have anything comparable to Preflight in Acrobat will be LiveCycle PDF Generator, and it will be a much more complex and costly solution (especially just to validate PDFs) than a copy of Acrobat.
Aandi is right. PostScript and PDF are completely different from a writing standpoint. While you may be able to create simple PDFs as a text file and have them interpreted properly, when you get into font subsetting and annotations and many of the advanced features a PDF offers, trying to create a PDF by hand becomes near-impossible. Use the available libraries - they are worth the price.

EMBEDDING POSTSCRIPT FONTS INTO PDFS

Used Quark Xpress 3.31 on Windows 98/Millenium/2000, made ps file, distilled to PDF. Worked great. All fonts embedded in PDF. Files worked great for prepress. Can't update Quark because of maths program I use that won't work on later Quark versions and can’t get math program upgrade. Trying to update to Windows XP. With XP postscript fonts will not embed in PDFs via Quark 3.31/Acrobat Distiller 4. Fonts will only show in Courier on PDF, although using Word same fonts will distill and show in PDF preferences/fonts list – so fonts are working. Have tried Universal Document Converter 5.3 as straight PDF converter. Fonts show on PDF but not showing as fonts embedded in preferences/fonts in PDF. Trying Adobe Acrobat Pro 10 but does not seem to work either. I think it is an issue with Quark 3.31 and later Windows platforms. Any suggestions out there on problem/solution? I may have to be stuck in the middle ages with software. Thanks

People have the best experience when their application software, their OS software and their hardware are moving forward together. But you've pretty much just stuck with what you have for the past 16 years.
I'd guess that the problem is that QuarkXPress 3.31 (which came out in 1996, according to Wikipedia) is probably incompatible with Windows XP (which came out in 2001).
Either you stick with what you have or you'll have to replace all your software. Assuming you want to stick with QuarkXPress, you'll have to find new math software which works with a later version of QuarkXPress. This will then require you to probably upgrade your hardware and update your Windows software. Since you waited so long, this will take some work.

Hoffe, dass ich in deutsch fragen kann.
Mein InDesign CS 6 V. 8.0 (OS X 10.6.8) stürzt immer mal wieder beim Export von PDF-Dateien ab. Bei CS 5.5 passiert das nicht. Gibt es eine Hilfe?

hat jemand eine ahnung wie es sich mit der
Größenbeschränkung beim plotten von PDF Dateien
verhält, wenn der Plotter keine PDF Option hat und Ohne Rip
gedruckt wird. bei der Acrobat Reader Version 7 war es so das keine
Pläne die länger als 120 cm waren geplottet werden
konnten, oder 36000 Pixel in der x und y Achse.
Wer weiß da was genaues oder hat eine Side wo es steht.

Probier vielleicht einaml eine andere PDF-Datei aus. Möglicherweise ist

Embed pcl or postscript commands in pdf

Hello!
I am currently facing the problem, that I want to specify the paper-source tray for the pages of a pdf, that is sent directly to the printer. I know that there is no way to do this directly in the PDF. Or are there plans to put this into one of the next standards?
Printing PDFs on the printer using "PDF Direct" for example works great, but we also need to select different trays.
So, I am now trying to add PJL/PCL commands in front of the PDF, but these PJL commands are valid only for the whole PDF. And I only got it to work one time, that a PDF with the PJL/PCL commands in front, was printed from the desired tray.
Well, now here is my question: Is there a way to add PCL or even Postscript commands to a PDF and specify the tray on a per PDF or even per page granularity? And how would I achieve this?
Or in general: How can I embed Postscript commands into a PDF?

The PDF specification does provide a feature referred to as a PostScript XObject which permits embedding PostScript fragments within a PDF file. However, use of PostScript XObjects is strongly discouraged as many if not most software processing PDF files either totally ignore these objects and are unlikely to pass them onto printing devices either at all or in a consistent fashion. For example, printers and RIPs based on the Adobe PDF Print Engine totally ignore any PostScript XObjects. When printing from Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to a PostScript device, it is very unlikely that any embedded PostScript XObjects would appear in the proper location within the resultant PostScript job to properly select input tray, output tray, and/or finishing options.
There is no way of embedding PCL in a PDF file.
The concept behind PDF workflows is that content and production instructions are maintained separately. Graphically rich content in a device independent form at the highest level of abstraction is carried by the PDF file. Job processing instructions including paper types, tray selections, copy count, duplexing, collation, and finishing options are transmitted separately in a job ticket, often JDF. None of international standards such as PDF/X or PDF/A support any embedded job ticketing or job control functions.

Speichern von PDF mit Firefox: "Datenträger voll"

Win XP Pro SP3, Adobe Reader X, aktueller Firefox.
Beim Versuch, manche PDFs aus dem Web mit Firefox abzuspeichern, erhalte ich die Fehlermeldung, der Datenträger sei voll.
Das passiert zum Beispiel mit diesen PDFs hier:

Dazu folgende Fakten:
a) Das Speichern scheitert auf C:\ bzw. Unterordnern von C:\. Auf anderen Partitionen klappt es. Auf C:\ sind über 60 GB frei.
b) Eine Verkürzung des Dateinamens auf a.pdf bringt keine Änderung.
c) Mit dem Internetexplorer 8 klappt das Abspeichern auf C:.
d) Wenn ich im Firefox einen anderen PDF-Reader als den von Adobe einstelle zur Anzeige von PDF, klappt das Abspeichern einwandfrei.
Heißt für mich: Im Zusammenspiel von Firefox und Adobe Reader lassen sich bestimmte PDFs nicht auf C: abspeichern.
Hat das noch jemand bemerkt, und was ist zu tun, außer dauerhaft den Adobe Reader nicht mehr im Firefox zu verwenden?

Guck mal nach, ob in den Voreinstellungen (Strg+K) die Erweiterte Sicherheit aktiviert ist.
Wenn ja, füg mal testweise das Verzeichnis hinzu, in das Du speichern willst, oder deaktiviere die erweitere Sicherheit mal ganz.

Große Zeitverzögerung bei der Bearbeitung von pdf-Formularen

Hallo und schönen guten Abend erst mal.
Ich bin das erste Mal in diesem Forum und hoffe, dass mir jemand helfen kann.
Ich habe Probleme bei der Bearbeitung von pdf-Formularen, die ich für verschiedenste Berichte nutzen muss. Ich erstelle sie nicht selbst, kann sie auch nicht ändern, ich habe sie nur zu befüllen.
Ich arbeite mit einem ASUS VivoTab, Win8 (nicht RT), Office 2010 und Adobe Reader XI. 2 MB Arbeitsspeicher und Intel Atom Prozessor sollten eigentlich ausreichen. Ich habe schon verschiedenste Foren durchsucht, aber nichts ähnliches gefunden. Das Problem habe ich auch nur mit dem Tablet und nicht mit meinem normalen PC.
Das Problem äußert sich darin, dass ich ein Formularfeld fülle, z.B. mit Datum aus einem hinterlegten Kalender, oder mit einem Text aus einem Auswahlmenü, und dann min. 5 sec. warten muss, bis diese Auswahl dann im Formularfeld erscheint und ich das nächste befüllen kann. Häufig erscheint dann auch die Meldung: Adobe Reader (keine Rückmeldung). Auf diese Weise dauert die Bearbeitung extrem lange. Freie Texteingaben ohne Auswahlmenü funktionieren einwandfrei.
Gibt es irgendwelche Einstellungen, die ich machen kann, um das zu beschleunigen?

Danke für die Antwort. Aber was bitte ist ein "schlechtes" JavaScript? Ich aktualisiere, sobald es etwas neues gibt. Renderoperationen habe ich inzwischen im Programm gefunden, wofür die aber gut sind, keine Ahnung. Grafikkartentest war einwandfrei, aktuellste Treiber heute runtergeladen, keine Änderung im Ergebnis bei der Bearbeitung.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here
