Adobe pdf files won't open while I'm online in FireFox even though I can download pdf files and then open them. It all freezes and tells me to check regedit. I have FireFox 5 and Acrobat 8, and I haven't found regedit, let alone know what to do with it..
If I click to open a pdf file when online with Firefox, the screen freezes and it tells me that the registry isn't updated and I should try regedit. About a month ago I had to wipe my computer clean and start all over again because of a virus that couldn't be cleaned out. I've since downloaded all necessary programs, Acrobat 8 one of them, but this message only appeared yesterday. Not sure why it worked up until now if it's the registry. But I don't know how to update it with regedit.
You need to get rid of all those duplicate files. Put these in the Trash:
Adobe Reader 7.07 (all copies)
AdbeRdr708enUS.dmg
This should leave you with one copy of Adobe Reader 7.08 in your Applications folder, with the correct Adobe icon.
Now run Disk Utility and choose Repair Permissions. When it's done, try double-clicking on the Adobe Reader icon and see if it starts normally. If not, make a note as to any error messages or unusual behavior and post again.

PS CS4 wants a printer installed even though I can print some files.
I have PS CS4 on Windows 7. I can print some files but not all. On the ones that I can't print PS is telling me I need to install a printer 1st even though I can printer others. I have tried to rasterize and/or flatten the files and it still says the same thing. I have created a new preferences file, by renaming the old in my program files, and it still does the same thing. I have also printed the same photos in Microsoft Picture Viewer. So, the printer can see the file and print it. It's a Brother MFC 9460cdn. I've used the troubleshooting guide thus far and done all i thought or seemed pertinant - except.... As a newbie, I've not not figured out how to create a new file to copy the rasterized, or layers for that matter, to a new project. I can't seem to figure out size settings and duplicating. These are files that came with a business and for some reason only about half will print the other are stuck needing a printer installed...LOL

Hello, I have installed Reader, Adobe Acrobat, trial versions of Photoshop and Illustrator. Some more than once. They work for a few days at most then I am told to re-install. I cant look at any pdf file even though I can still see reader in my programs. What is going on and what can I do to fix this?
Unfortunately no, It says "Adobe not responding" as well when I try to open a pdf. It has done this a few times where I had to uninstall and reinstall. Also, Illustrator tells me to uninstall/reinstall as well.

All files have their "native" application. Without the application the file cannot be created.
Once created the file must have the native application to be "opened".
For the application to do that first to open is the software (application).

I cannot open a .pdf in an incoming mail (Outlook 2010) with Acrobat Pro XI. It will only allow "preview". I have to copy and paste the .pdf to my desktop and then open it. I have seen this issue occur with users who have this registry setting missing or have improper permissions.
When you double click the attachment to launch the pdf it is saved and opened from the temporary folder unless saved specifically to a location.
If you dont have the below mentioned registry key or improper permissions then attachments fail to open.
Please heck if the following reg key exists:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Value Name: OutlookSecureTempFolder
If the value exists, and if the value contains a valid path, Outlook 2010 uses that location for its temporary files.
If the registry value does not exist, or if the value points to an invalid location, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2003 creates a new subdirectory under the Temporary Internet Files directory and then puts the temporary file in the new subdirectory. The name of the new subdirectory is unknown and is randomly generated, depending on your version of Outlook.
Please check the following key:

I have an application on 4 computers. On 3, PDF files open as they should, withing the application. On the fourth the file is placed in "downloads" and then opens in a separate tab on the desktop(not inside the application). Any ideas on settings that might be causing this? It happens whether the application starts in IE11, Google Chrome or Firefox.
This happens whether the "client" signs in over the internet or directly to the local host server.

The system attempts to download the pdf, but it is a dark grey screen. I can save this as a file and then open it using Adobe. Why two steps? I should be able to read the first one. This is extremely annoying.

I get the following error everytime I download something from the internet:-"/Users/vinaypunjabi/Downloads/Ontario Colleges Chart(2)(1).pdf could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file".
Then it shows as downloading failed.But if I click on it twice ,it opens up .

In Illustrator, I have a saved artwork, then I'm saving a copy as PDF, as usual.
After I keep the AI file open, making some modifications which I don't want to save, so I close the file and click "Don't Save".
Even though I clicked that, the file's modification time is changing.
(The modifications I made are not there, so it's not really saving but why the date is changing then?)
Please find the cause of it! Thank you!All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

I have installed adobe reader onto my Mac but when I open up an adobe pdf it tells me that i need to accept the end user license agreement, quite, and then open up a new browser but i have never seen the end user license agreement. What should I do in order to accept the end user license agreement even though it never pops up when i install adobe reader?
Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.

I run an iMac. Today for some reason when I run the cursor across the screen applications and files are highlighted and then opened without me doing anything (no clicking etc) In fact print at times opens. As far as I can tell I have not changed any settings except to open firewall.
I run MacKeeper and when I run a scan only a few cleaning items open. Safe and fast are as they should be. I run fix. If I again run the scan I get a few more but different claeing items to fix.
I have rung MacKeeper several times without getting through. The occasion I did get through the bloke said he could not help and passed me to a higher authority. Needless to say the line dropped out after 30 minutes waiting.
As it is the weekend and I do not live near an Apple store I am quite keen to get the problem identified and fixed so I can continue working.
Your assistance please.Remove the "MacKeeper" scam product as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash. -
Would like to verify Time Machine backup but when I enter TM and then open iPhoto, it only provides me a gray window telling me the size of the file. How do I make sure all iPhoto pictures have been backed up on Time Machine?

You can tell if the File System (the various directories, catalogs etc.) is ok by repairing your backup drive, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
You can "spot check" whether the Time Machine "Star Wars" display seems correct.
You can do a full system restore to another disk per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions, then start up from it and see if things are there and seem to work.
You can keep "secondary" backups (always a good idea). See #27 in the FAQ post for some suggestions. -
We use a doc template to create a purchased part spec document and then save them as pdf formatted files. These part spec documents are also appended with the datasheets for these purchased parts. When we want to update/revise the document, is there a method, using Acrobat, to make those updates to the pdf, or must we go back to the doc template and basically generate a new document?
Also, our resulting pdf documents aren't searchable. How can we generate pdf documents that are searchable? I may want to search for a part value or name within the body of these pdf documents, but currently can't do that...very inconvenient.
Can you assist?Not totally sure about the search issue. A lot depends on how you created the PDF and what is in the datasheets you attached (like are they graphics?). The doc portion should be searchable as long as you used print to the Adobe PDF printer or PDF Maker. For your use, it may be that the print is adequate. However, the result should be searchable (unless maybe you had a form with filled in fields and created the PDF with PDF Maker. I think the form data may be retained in form fields and the fields are not searchable. In that case, a print might be a better procedure. (it would help to know the versions of WORD and Acrobat as well as the exact process you used to create the PDF.)
If the appended data sheets do not change, then you might try opening the original PDF and then using Replace Pages to replace the file created from the DOC file.
