  • Why have my pdf files lost the Adobe pdf icon? Please help.

    Hello all.
In transfering pdf files from my old PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro, half of the pdf files now have a blank page as an icon. Also, all pdf files that I now create through print in Safari are blank. Nevertheless, all of these files open properly with Adobe Reader. This is the only type of file that lacks a proper icon. Why has the proper icon been lost & how do I solve this problem?
    Thanks for your help.

Thank you, the problem appears to have been solved by
rebuilding the launch services database as you
recommended. The second solution did not work.
Question: why do you think this problem occurred with
a new computer straight out of the box?
When you transfer files from another computer or over an FTP site or email, some of the info is sometimes lost. It's actually pretty rare from computer to computer but just about always happens on Internet transfers, although those mostly lose their icons.
I'm still learning how to use this web site. I
selected helpful without realizing I should have
selected solved. Can I change to solved?
I don't think so but you can make this one as solved.

  • Adobe pdf icons

Everytime I open or save a PDF file it creates a shortcut icon on my laptop screen. How do I stop this?

Adobe Reader does not generally have this  behavior. I have never seen in on the Mac or Windows OS (up to and including Windows 8). So we need to try to track down what is happening and why.
    1) OS version and if Windows Service Pack?
    2) Version of Reader?
    3) How exactly are you opening the files? (File -> Open, double-clicking on a file, from within a web browser)
    4) If you create a new user account, does this behavior  persist?

  • Acrobat X does not install the Adobe PDF printer

When I try to install the Acrobat X on a Vista SP2 machine, the installation completed successfully but it does not create the Adobe PDF icon in the printers section.
This was not a problem earlier, but there were some microsoft patches and GPO updates which happened which may be causing this issue. I am not sure what change has caused this problem.
Any ideas on where to start the investigation would help.

you need to update to 8.1

  • PDF Desktop Icons - Content Icon Vs. Standard PDF Icon

    Hi...
I tried getting an answer to this in the READER forum, but to no avail, so someone suggested I try here...
On my desktop, for any PDF file, currently all icons are the standard Adobe/PDF style.  From time to time, and I don't know what causes this, but these icons change and show as the first page of content in a little image.  This is how I would like them to be all the time, but they always revert back to the standard Adobe / PDF icons.  I don't know what changes these or how I can go about making this change permanent.
Anybody have insight to this?  All replies would be greatly appreciated!  It's not anything major, but it's bugging the hell out of me.
    Thanks!
    Andy

    a)  Yes, I know the desktop resides in the Docs and Settings folder.
    b)  I haven't a clue as to what this question means, other than I know what a JPEG image is.
    c)  There are no differences in my various PDF files - most are downloads, others are saved copies, still others are converted to PDF via PrimoPDF Free - makes no difference - currently, all PDF icons on my desktop look like this:
Funny thing, though...when I went to upload the above image, and the image upload set up a browse for the image file, I saw IN THAT VIEW the PDF icons as CONTENT icons, the way I would like all to be shown on my desktop as well - so you are onto something...
    d)  No differences.
    e)  Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.
Essentially, I want all my DESKTOP PDF icons to NOT look at they do now, but to look as they do (first page content image) in the second image above.
    Thanks...
    Andy

  • PDF Icons are all different

Why is it that the PDF icons on my desktop are different from each other? One is the standard red/Adobe PDF icon, another looks like a page, another looks like a binder, another is a photo showing the content of the file. All were created within the same program (Photoshop) as I was saving multiple files. Incidentally, they are all files containing one photo each, but only one file shows the photo as the PDF icon.
I saved them through the print menu.
Thanks for any insight to this!
    Jeff

No matter how they were created, the icon relates to the app that is the default for the file.
Right-Click one of the files that has the right icon/thumbnail on it and select "Get Info"
Then under "Open With" select the correct opening app which should be the correct one in this case.
Then under that, where it says,
"Use this app to open all documents like this" click the button
    "Change All"
    That should fix the problem.

well its been sometime but i finally updated my firmware, the problem is, after reinstalling the backup, it seems to of created the fault again. its not being caused by the memory card as i cannot open the pdf app with it removed, so it has to be a buggy file i've installed to the phone memory? i've been through a lot of files using y-browser and deleted a lot of rubbish but i cannot find the problem? one thing i've found is i can open a pdf file if i navigate to it with y-browser and select open with the pdf app? i just cannot open it directly from the adobe pdf icon? does anyone know whats happened to the download link? i no longer can find it on the nokia site?

  • Is use of PDF icon in an application permitted?

Hi. Not sure if this is right place to ask (or if Adobe has time to bother with such trivial stuff...) but I am developing an application that asks the user to browse and select a PDF file.
Is it permissable to use the standard Adobe PDF icon on the application (just for a bit of visual clarification/interest for the user)? The PDF icon is in such wide use that I can't imagine Adobe has time or resources to track down improper use of the icon but am just wondering whether using it in such a way would be allowed.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The issue is more related to Lync development. You may post a question on MSDN forum and more Lync development expert will help you. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Adobe Create pdf icon does not appear in Firefox 36.0.1

I am using Windows 10 TP and have used Adobe Acrobat XI with Firefox for months now and have been able to click on the Adobe Icon on the FIrefox toolbar to convert web pages into an Acrobat file. In the last couple of weeks this icon has disappered but the following items still exist:-
    1. Under Options/Applications Portable Document Format (PDF) is still set to Use Adobe Acrobat (default)
    2. In the list of Add-ons I still have an entry Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32. This is the Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefoc and Netscape.
    3. I have uninstalled ALL add-ons ansd re-installed but that does not resolve the problem
    4. I have uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it again but that does not resolve the problem
Can you please offer any suggestions to resolve this problem?

I forgot one detail. This happened while I was having trouble seeing the mouse cursor (I use Apple's Magic Mouse). It had disappeared briefly. I had to drag the cursor out of the Firefox Window for it to reappear. I accidentally entered full screen view while the cursor was not visible.

I have just upgraded to Mac's LION 10.7.2 and I have LOST the Adobe PDF option in my 'print menu'
How do I get it back into the Printer llist ?

    Phillip,
Thanks for getting back to me, but I am a novice ( softer word the 'dummy') and I cannot follow your directions; I don't "SEE' the items you mention so let me try to paint a clearer picture
When I have a document that I want t print.....I go to the file menu and select "PRINT' from the drop down menu, That opens window that has an oval window that allow me to drop down to see what printers are available....I have TWO......a Brothers MFC-5490cn and a Lexmark
NOW..tose ar my only two options......prior to up grading )from Snow Leopard) to Lion.....there was a third option....which 'Adobe PDF Printer', and THAT is the one I've lost.
My goal is to get it back into the Printer Window as a third option.
    Thanks

  • Adobe pdf files won't open while I'm online in FireFox even though I can download pdf files and then open them. It all freezes and tells me to check regedit. I have FireFox 5 and Acrobat 8, and I haven't found regedit, let alone know what to do with it..

If I click to open a pdf file when online with Firefox, the screen freezes and it tells me that the registry isn't updated and I should try regedit. About a month ago I had to wipe my computer clean and start all over again because of a virus that couldn't be cleaned out. I've since downloaded all necessary programs, Acrobat 8 one of them, but this message only appeared yesterday. Not sure why it worked up until now if it's the registry. But I don't know how to update it with regedit.

You need to get rid of all those duplicate files. Put these in the Trash:
    Adobe Reader 7.07 (all copies)
    AdbeRdr708enUS.dmg
This should leave you with one copy of Adobe Reader 7.08 in your Applications folder, with the correct Adobe icon.
Now run Disk Utility and choose Repair Permissions. When it's done, try double-clicking on the Adobe Reader icon and see if it starts normally. If not, make a note as to any error messages or unusual behavior and post again.

I have uninstalled Adobe Reader, which clears up the locks, but then I don't have any way to open PDF files. I tried re-installing several times, to no avail
