Adobe pdf page no longer responding on Mac

Have downloaded Adobe 10 to Mac OSX 10.6, and after initial problems has mostly been working o.k.
Got to end of online pdf forms ready to submit, & given option to view and print- nothing happened; treid another option to save - nothing happened.
I decided to take a screenshot - went to Edit and clicked "take snapshot" - but can't find a snap shot anywhere on laptop - and worse, the cursor hasn't reappeared so cannot now do anything further on the adobe pdf page.
When I click on the adobe pdf a "crosshair" appears in place of the cursor & the screen turns blue or occasionally burgundy. I click again, the colour goes but the cursor still doesn't re-appear, just the crosshairs remain.
Went back to Edit to deselect "snapshot" - it won't disengage, the tick stays in place - which is probably why there is no cursor.
How do I get rid of this and resume normal status to save the pdf?

Just found another similar issue elsewhere - answer is to click on pdf page then click escape!! Should really be somewhere on adobe that indicates this is the solution to such a silly issue .

Man, I hope you get an answer for this question. I can't download any pdfs at all anymore on my Mac. OS10.7.3 I don't even get an error message, it doesn't show that I've opened a pdf, I just get a blank screen. It's getting very frustrating. I've been searching for an answer online and just saw your question. Hopefully you'll get an answer soon and it will answer mine as well.

  • Saving Adobe PDF Page Size without Admin Rights?

Ok to get started, to define the limits of my environment for replication:
I'm using Windows XP SP3 and have tried Adobe Acrobat 8, 9, and X, my computer is on a network at work, and my user rights are limited.
    Open Printing Preferences, Click Add...
The "Add Custom Paper Size" window appears, give a new name and define sizes of the paper.
    Lets say I'm printing to a large format say 36" Tall by 108" Long (3ft x 9ft)
Click Add/Modify, the window goes away, focus again on Adobe PDF Printing Preferences. Click the drop down box for Adobe PDF Page Size:
The page size I just added to the list is not there!
The solution to the this problem is to have Administrative Rights to your machine in order to add custom paper sizes.
Note to Adobe Acrobat Programmers/Designers: please redevelop this feature to allow users to add paper sizes without Power User or Admin Rights. In a secure network these rights are not easily given out to every Dick and Jane that uses your software.

Interesting post, and for once, something one should be able
    to work with.
    I have a similar problem:
We're using a software distribution tool to install
msi-packages via rpc. Trying to distribute the latest flashplayer
works fine, but the users can't open flash-files, whether with
firefox nor internetexplorer tried 6 and 7 with latest patches.
I've found two possible ways to install a flashplayer plugin,
but both require manual input, which is just not possible for
    >100 Clients. just to mention: clean registry and then install
with admin rights or just run the installer with admin rights from
    the local machine.
Another problem is, that our company security policy
prohibits from using admin-rights for most installations.
    is there any workaround?

  • Export "Adobe PDF Page Size" ?

    Hello:
Is there a way to export custom Adobe PDF Page Sizes from computer to computer?  We have a series of custom page sizes for Architectural sheets and currently we have to enter them manually for each computer in the office.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Seeing 750k described as a huge PDF is amusing when I often need to send files for print that are 750 mb or more.
That aside, exported PDF nearly always is larger than distilled PDF because it can include a lot more information like transparency and color management intents. The warning about fonts just means that the preset is set to not embed fonts during distilling to reduce file size (so the viewer must have the fonts on the system for viewing or printing properly), and ID always embeds fonts during export unless they are restricted, so not embedding your fonts will be ignored. You can unembed them using the optimizer.
So why is a 750k PDF too large? Perhaps there's a better format all around for what you are doing.

  • Can I use Adobe PDF plugin in Chrome on a Mac?

    I'm on a Mac.
I would like to use the Adobe Reader PDF viewer in Chrome instead of the built-in Chrome PDF viewer.
I went to Chrome:Plugins to disable the Chrome PDF viewer, but noticed that the Adobe Reader PDF plugin is not there.

  • Excel to Adobe PDF page size problems

I am using Excel 2007 on a Windows XP setup with Acrobat 9.0 PDFM OfficeAddin.  I want to convert my Excel sheets to 8.5"x11" size pages, but they come out as approx. 22"x30" pages.  I've checked the page size setting in Excel and the Adobe preference settings and they are both set for 8.5x11, but the pdf page size is always much larger!  What is causing this and what do I need to do to get 8.5x11 size pdf pages?
Thanks you for your help. I've pulled out most of my hair by now!

Change your printer to the Adobe PDF printer and then set the cell sizes in Excel. This is just the normal Excel adjustment to the printer.

  • Adobe PDF Printer - no longer creating searchable files

    Hi,
I am using Acrobat Professional 9.4.3 on Windows 7 64-bit.
I just noticed Adobe PDF Printer is no longer creating searchable files and I can't figure out why or how to set it up to do so.
Looking back at PDFs created in February, the PDF Producer is Acrobat Distiller 9.4.0.  These are searchable.
Current files - which are not searchable - show the PDF Producer as Acrobat Distiller 9.4.2.  Should it be 9.4.3 - to match the current version of Professional?
Any thoughts why this would be happening?
    Thank you,
    Kevin

    Hi,
I think I found the answer.
I updated to Acrobat Professional 9.4.4.  But that isn't the answer.
I tracked it down to the installation of Firefox 4.

  • Adobe PDF driver no longer supported

I recently purchased an iMAC running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 which no longer supports Adobe's PDF printer driver. This driver had an ADD BORDER setting which I relied heavily on. Without the availability of this driver, I now must EXPORT to PDF from the applications that I use; Specifically, Adobe Illustrator CS4 & QuarkExpress 9.
Since the Adobe PDF printer driver is no longer supported, I can't find a selection to ADD A BORDER when exporting to PDF from within these applications. My client insists on having a border around components within my PDF files. I have over a hundred  files for this client. How can I add a border (not a frame) to my exported PDF files?
The only solution I can find is to add an empty outline box to each file, export it to PDF, then delete the outline box before preping each file for printing. This work around should be unnecessary. If there's something I'm missing, please help.

  • Problem with opening adobe pdf page in Firefox 4 b10

The pdf pages do not display in the correct colours and when scrolling sections seem to dissapear as if there is masking taking place.
If you print the document then the pages come out correctly.
Is there a fix for this or would it be better to go back to an earlier version.

For us luddites, could someone post instructions on how to disable PDF Downloader in Firefox 4? Thank you!

  • Adobe PDF Printer No Longer Available After Acrobat X Install

I've been using Acrobat 8 Pro for several years. To generate PDFs, I use the Adobe PDF printer (through FrameMaker). I recently installed Acrobat X Pro. Now there's no Adobe PDF printer. Save as PDF doesn't work (no PDF generated). I need to get the Adobe PDF printer back but cannot find any information about how to install it. All the Acrobat Distiller help has to say is that you should use the Adobe PDF printer. Not helpful at all.

    Good day,
I'd like to see if I can help you.

Did the Adobe PDF Printer install with your trial?
What application did you author the file in that you'd like to convert to PDF?
Did you print your file from that application to the Adobe PDF Printer?
And to correct and continue to evaluate the "TRIAL" version I must delete the working version of software so that the "TRIAL" Version will be able to create a PDF!!!!(30 Min)
And if I don't like the "TRIAL" version I have to Reinstall the Original.
    (30 Min)
Do you mean that you had a previous version of Acrobat (such as Adobe Acrobat 8 or 9) installed?
If so, this is not surprising as we do not support multiple versions of Acrobat installed on the same computer.

  • Duplicate Adobe PDF printers won't hold page size setting

I'm running Acrobat Professional 9.1.1 and 8.1.3 on two separate Windows XP Professional SP3 computers.
We have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet that we're trying to print to PDF on A4 paper size. When printing from Excel, we select the Adobe PDF print driver, click Properties, then change the Adobe PDF Page Size setting to A4. We double-checked under the Paper/Quality tab to make sure the size stuck, and it did. When it actually finishes creating the PDF, however, it's still Letter sized. The only way to make force it to create A4 is to go into Printers & Faxes and change the default size there...which is way too much work to have to do every time we need to change paper sizes. I would think it would be possible directly within the print dialog box (otherwise, why would they bother including it there?).
I thought I could do a work-around and duplicate the Adobe PDF print driver with a different name and set the duplicate to A4 size while the regular one would be at Letter size. This works fine when I'm logged in as an administrator. If I log into my computer as a general user however, the duplicate driver shows up, but even when we go into Printers & Faxes and set the paper size to A4, the size doesn't stick when selecting that duplicate print driver when printing from Excel. The same scenario recreates itself on any computer here, whether using Acrobat 8 Pro or Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Any thoughts on this?

I already described how to get rid of that months ago.
It rely upon a bit of surgerty.
ctrl + click the Pages icon to get the menu item "Show package contents"
Navigate in the package to open the
    <startupVolume>:Applications:iWork '09:Pages.app:Contents:Resources:Templates:
    folder.
Then, ctrl click the template of your choice .
You will reach two files :
    index-iso.xml.template
    and
    index-trad.xml.template
Duplicate both of them for safe.
    Delete the file entitled
    index-iso.xml.template
    then rename
    index-trad.xml.template
    as
    index-iso.xml.template
As the computers are dumbs, yours will be fooled and will use the file named index-iso.xml.template whose contents will be the index-trad.xml.template one.
Apply the scheme to every template which you really use.
If I remember well, I wrote a script applying this process to every templates delivered in the box but I'm too lazy to search for it.

  • Wrong PDF page size in Excel

When I use PDFMaker to "print" the print area of one particular spreadsheet, the Adobe PDF page size is 11.18 x 14.47 inches.
When I use Adobe PDF printer, the Adope PDF page size is 8.5 x 11.0.
    Excel Page size = Letter (8.5 x 11.0)
    Excel Page orientation = Portrait
Excel Page Parameter = Fit print area to 1 page x 1 page
    Selected Printer = Adobe PDF
Selected Paper size in Adobe PDF dialog boxes = Letter
Selected Paper size in PDFMaker Preferences = Letter
When I change the Excel Page Size to Tabloid (11 x 17):
Adobe PDF printer creates a page size of 11.0 x 17.0
Adobe PDF Maker creates a page size of 11.0 x 17.0
Can anyone shed light on the problem experienced by PDFMaker on the Letter sized request?
    I am running:
    Windows XP, SP3
    MS Excel 2007
    Acrobat 9.1.2
    PDFMOfficeAddin.dll version 9.1.0.0
    PDFMExcel.dll version 9.1.0.0

    Hello everyone!
It's been long since this topic was active but I just wanted to share my solution to a similar problem.
I was trying to use the built-in Save as PDF function of Excel 2007 and my sheet which also had some headers and footers was not coming out correctly.
From Page Layout tab, I clicked the small icon on the corner of the Page Setup. Then I clicked the Header/Footer tab and removed the tick next to where it says "Scale with document" and viola! I miraculously could export my sheet in the correct page size.
May this be helpful to not just who have had this problem before, but also the ones that will come afterwards!
    Cheers!

  • Print Booklet: Cannot choose Adobe PDF as printer

    Hello there!
I used to be able to choose "Adobe PDF" as the printer when I export my document through Print Booklet.
For some reason, selecting "Adobe PDF" is no longer available. Does anyone know how I can get this option back?
I believe it disappeared when I uninstalled the driver for my printer. But I have since installed it and there is still no Adobe PDF option available.
    Many thanks for your help!
    -Paula

I would recommend not to use the booklet function in InDesign. Imposing is a work that the printer has to do, not you.
Export a PDF. Other applications without PDF export have on the Mac in the Print dialog a PDF button, there is Save as PDF with Apple's Quartz engine and if you have installed Acrobat Pro you find the better method to save as Adobe PDF.

  • Customizing PDF page size

    I have a 5 x 3 (index card) template in Word 2007 - in Portrait
I want to create a PDF of this document that I will use on an iPod Touch
When I Print Preview in Word, I get the 5 x 3 size preview. Looks perfect!
I selected Adobe PDF in the Printer Dialog box - clicked Properties - Adobe PDF Settings tab - and Added an Adobe PDF Page Size of 5 x 3 named "Index Card" - then selected it in the Adobe PDF Page Size drop-down.
When I print to PDF, I get my card printed on 8.5 X 11 in landscape - with the text a small portion of the page - centered and right justified.
I want to see a 5" x 3" pdf page size with my text filling the page.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I'm using Acrobat 7.0 Standard.

Thank you, GKaiseril. Your suggestions helped me resolve this.
For the record, here's the steps:
In MS Word, File  > Print  >  Click Properties button  >  Click Adobe PDF Settings  >  Click  ADD and create a custom defined "Index Card" size (Width = 3, Height = 5) then click Add/Modify to close the Add Custom Paper Size dialog box.
Verify that the Adobe PDF Page Size combobox shows "Index Card"
In the MS Word Print Dialog Box, select Adobe PDF as the Printer, and in the lower RH Corner, in the Scale To Paper Size combobox select "Index Card".
I found that I have to set the Scale To Paper Size combobox each time I print, or it defaults back to "Letter".
    Hope this helps!
