I have found stuff on specific errors but nothing that has proven successful for this.  Any help is appreciated.

I have displayed the captures of the screens that I got to when I looked at the printer properties for the Adobe PDF printer. I am looking at the properties in AA8 and there is a chance they are different in AA9.

Might depend on the OS that you did not mention. Try doing the updates and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise, tell us more about your OS.

  • PDFs created by Adobe PDF print device do not display correctly in Illustrator

I generated a PDF from a PowerPoint file by printing to the Adobe PDF printer device. This step works correctly as the PDF appears normal in Acrobat. However, upon opening the PDF in Illustrator, none of the graphic (bitmap) elements are rendered correctly -- they appear as gray boxes with remnants of the correct image remaining as a single pixel border around the edge. This is clearly an error in the PDF importing in Illustrator. Any work-arounds or suggestions?

Update: OK, so it has something to do with whether an image in PPT was "cropped" before conversion to PDF, as an uncropped version of the same graphic is rendered accurately in Illustrator after conversion to and from PDF. For my part, I'm just going to recopy the images directly into Illustrator, but perhaps this might help someone else dealing with the same problem.

I understand this is no help, but Illustrator is not a pdf editor. This is why you can get unexpected results when importing a pdf in Illustrator.
If you really need to edit a pdf you could use Acrobat or Neo, and there are some more out there, just look around on the net:

  • Adobe pdf printer can't open log file

I am trying to print an Id cs6 file to a pdf file.
During the printing process, the progress indicator indicates it prints a book file to about page 23 (of 293) then I get an error message that says acrobat can't open the xxx.log file.
The printing progress indicator continues to indicate a file is being printed, but no file opens in acrobat at completion.
I expect the program to ask me to name the output, and then to want comfirmation, in this case, to replace the existing file.
This process worked until last night.  I was trying to make a PDF to upload to create space.  The file create space got has photos and images with too low resolution.  Not sure why that's happening either.  I think Adobe is printing screen resolution images.  I went into the adobe presets in the file drop down menu to try to increase resolution, and since, have been unable to print.  I probably did not fix the image resolution problem either.
THe error message likely involves a conflict between two parts of the program.  It's not accurate at face value.  Any suggestions to fix it?
    Thanks
    Roy

  • Adobe PDF Printer - no longer creating searchable files

    Hi,
I am using Acrobat Professional 9.4.3 on Windows 7 64-bit.
I just noticed Adobe PDF Printer is no longer creating searchable files and I can't figure out why or how to set it up to do so.
Looking back at PDFs created in February, the PDF Producer is Acrobat Distiller 9.4.0.  These are searchable.
Current files - which are not searchable - show the PDF Producer as Acrobat Distiller 9.4.2.  Should it be 9.4.3 - to match the current version of Professional?
Any thoughts why this would be happening?
    Thank you,
    Kevin

    Hi,
I think I found the answer.
I updated to Acrobat Professional 9.4.4.  But that isn't the answer.
I tracked it down to the installation of Firefox 4.
    Found these discussions:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/788993
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2122001&sid=76d02be681f087f8bb0ba6ded50 55198
Specifically, in the second discussion there is a comparsion of browsers with hardware acceleration turned on and off and their outputs (text vs graphic).
When I turn hardware acceleration off, the PDF from the Adobe PDF Printer is searchable.
    I am using Firefox 4.0.1.

  • Adobe PDF Printer not working as print driver; 9.5.5 (pro) with Windows 7, 64 bit

I have installed, repaired, uninstalled and re-installed Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 on a newly formatted SSD with Windows 7, 64 bit on my desktop machine. The program was installed from Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 and updated within the program. I have the program also installed on my laptop, and the Adobe PDF Printer driver is working properly on my laptop.
On my desktop with the newly formatted SSD, the Adobe PDF printer driver is not working. Note that I am using the printer driver, and not any pdf creation techniques within MS Office or other programs.
When I go to the Adobe PDF printing preferences on my desktop, I only get a generic, two tab window open. When I print a file to this printer on my desktop machine, I do not get a window opening that asks where to create the pdf or what to name it, and I never see any files created. In MS Word, the Create PDF option under the Acrobat tab works and opens a dialog to ask the name and location to save, and then opens a PDF Maker progress window and properly creates the file. I can also save a file as an .eps or .ps file and use Distiller to create the pdf. However I cannot get the Adobe PDF printer driver in my Devices and Printers to work properly, although it works just fine on my laptop with the same program (Pro 9.5.5) and same Windows version (7, 64 bit).
Repairing, uninstalling and re-installing does not solve the problem. Acrotray.exe *32 process is running. Any ideas on why this won't run properly on my desktop, but will run on a similarly configured laptop?
On my laptop, I get a full, (7) tabl menu with all the normal options:

I found this answer from Deepak Chauhan on another forum, and it solved this problem!
Try this to add Adobe PDF printer manually on Windows 7, and Windows Vista.
If windows 7 is Enterprise or better edition: (Admin rights required)
Start>search for printmanagement.msc and open the print management module
Expand the print server and expand the computer name to see availbale printers, drivers and printer ports.
    - from printers ensure there's no Adobe PDF printer, if there is delete it
    - go to ports and delete the PDF ports (the ones ending in *.pdf)
    - go to drivers and delete the PDF converter.
Take note if any errors occur, but continue with the following steps regardless.
If on windows 7 home edition, just goto start>Devices and Printers and ensure PDF pritner is not listed.
Then open the registry (if any erors deleting these keys happen, see below)
    1: go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers
delete any adobe PDF printer subkey present
    2: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
delee the PDF port monitor if present
    3: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
again delete and pdf printer subkey
If any erros occur, you need to set the owner of the key to the currently logged in admin user, then ensure that user has full control.
Do this by right-click the key and selecting permissions, clicking on advanced, then the owner tab.
Once you've all that has been done, open a command line as administrator.
Copy and pate the following commands in order
    1: net stop spooler
    2: rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection AdobePDFPortMonitor 128 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf
    3: net start spooler
    4:rundll32.exe printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Adobe PDF" /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf" /r "Documents\*.pdf" /m "Adobe PDF Converter"
That should set back the pdf printer.
This seemed to provide the link that provided the Adobe PDF Settings tab to the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences that was missing!

  • Adobe PDF Printer creating corrupt PDFs

    Greets,
One of my customers has a bit of an odd issue: He has Acrobat X Pro (10.1.2), Windows 7 64-bit, and when he creates a PDF via the Adobe PDF printer (Distiller?) using any software (even as simple as notepad) it opens correctly on his computer, but when sent to other people, they get the error "there was an error opening this document."  I am able to open the PDF in muPDF and it opens and displays correctly, so I believe the problem is something to do with the file headers.
PDFs created via other means open correctly on all computers.  (Word plugin, Acrobat itself, etc.)
I found another thread that said to uncheck "Rely on system fonts only", but this does not resolve the issue.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe PDF Printer, run a repair on Acrobat X, etc.
Anyone run into this/found an answer before?

Some more testing makes it seem Outook 2010 is the culpret.
Any PDF that's just text seems to be sent as a text attachment instead of binary, so I need to find a way to force Outlook 2010 to properly encode as binary.  (My user will refuse to zip attachments as a solution.)  There's a microsoft KB entry on it for 2000, 2003, and 2007, but it doesn't seem to work for 2010.  Any ideas?

  • Acrobat X Pro suddenly no Adobe PDF printer available within applications

I have been using X Pro for 2 months following installation of CS5.5 Premium. I used to be able to print-to-file using the Adobe PDF printer in the print dialog box from within apps such as Word and Finale. Suddenly that option is absent from my print dialog box in all apps.

    Hi Bill,
I'm SO glad I tried your HELP suggestion first because un- and re-installing was going to be my next step and I dreaded it, and now, given the info you provide below, it appears it was a good thing I didn't do it. Thanks for the further information. I keep a log to refer to when gremlins like this pop up and this is going into it ASAP!!!

Great. We often hear of folks having uninstalled and reinstalled and problems not going away. The repair is the first line of defense if you have not been able to track down a problem. The last line is a reinstall. One of the problems with reinstalls is that folks do not clean up the system before the install. That clean up should include removal of all latent folder parts left by Acrobat and also running a registry cleaner (MS used to have one, but it is not longer available -- making CCleaner the typical cleanup). So if you have problems in the future, try to trouble shoot it and come to the forum if you need help. Sometimes, the repair is a quick fix, and lastly with no other answers do the reinstall--BUT with the cleanup along the way. Again, glad it worked for you.

I have an error message that just started which is preventing me from printing to PDF.
    Invalid "Adobe PDF" printer properties
    Do not change spooler settings.
Please select "Print directly to the printer" option (from Adobe PDF

Prior to this error message I was able to print to PDF
I have checked for updates and I have the latest updates installed.
I have changed to "print directly to printer" and nothing happens. No error message but also no PDF file. The status shows "Error - Printing".

    Hi,
    Try this?
Find the Acrobat Printer in Printers
Right click on it and select properties
    Then the Advanced tab
    Is Spool Print Documents selected?
If so, Deselect, Enable Advanced Printing Features

  • How can I change the default page size for the Adobe PDF Printer?

    Hello All,
I have cases where I need to switch the default paper size from 8.5x11 to 11x17 via api for the Adobe PDF Printer and have not been able to find how this can be accomplished.
I am using C# .Net and would appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

There is no Acrobat API for this, but so far as I know there doesn't need to be. The user can go change this from the Printers Control panel as needed. The Adobe PDF printer has some differences from regular printer drivers, but this isn't one of them.

  • Re-use acrodist.exe process when printing to Adobe PDF printer

We're using BarTender to print to Adobe PDF printer and it is creating an acrodist.exe process for each print job. Is there an Adobe setting or something BarTender could do differently to re-use an existing acrodist.exe process instead of creating a new one. We've noticed that Notepad will re-use an existing acrodist.exe process.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well, after restarting my machine the print queue was cleared of all the dead jobs, but when attempting to print to PDF it hung up again, and then did the same as before - all subsequent jobs tried to save as the filename of the first job in the queue. Very annoying!

  • Adobe PDF Printing - no file is created

    Hi there,
We have Adobe CS6 installed on our network, which includes Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
Our clients are Windows 7 64-bit.
We are experiencing a problem when it comes to printing to PDF.  e.g. using notepad or Microsoft Word, when selecting "File >> Print" and "Adobe PDF"
We are presented with the "Save PDF File As" prompt, and at this point you can see the document appear in the Adobe PDF print queue with the status "Spooling".  However once we've chosen the file name and location, and chosen "Save" no file is created.  The job disappears from the print queue.
We have tried a number of fixes based on other forum posts, such as choosing the print driver (AdobePDF.inf) again from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF and repairing the Adobe Acrobat X Pro installation.....but to no avail.
We are able to create PDFs within the Adobe Acrobat X Pro progam without any problems.
I suspect from what someone else has written, this might have something to do with acrotray.exe but I'm not sure how to diagnose/fix this.
We would greatly appreciate some further advice!
    Thanks!!

The print process for PDFs as you have described is to create a PS file and then activate Distiller in the background to complete the process. A necessarily background application for this process is AcroTray that I suspect someone has removed. To check the process at the base level, use these steps:
    1. use print-to-file and save the file someplace you can find
    2. open the file in Distiller (it should be a PS file, but with a PRN extension or type)
    3. You should get a PDF
If the conversion fails in Distiller, you will get errors on the screen -- typically related to graphics or fonts that you are trying to use or embed. You may find that .log files have already been created when you said you got no PDF. If that is the case, the log-file will let you know what the problem is (if you can figure out what is said -- or post here).
So there are 2 common problems: 1. that errors occurred and are recorded in the log file or 2. AcroTray is not active.

  • Creating PDF through Adobe PDF print - Cannot open this file?

    Hello!
I have a user who I recently installed Acrobat X on their machine.  They are in a program called DSS and he when he goes to file --> Print and then selects Adobe PDF he gets errors when converting a map into a pdf.  It shows the Creating Adobe PDF box and has a progress bar.  Then an error box says Acrobat Distiller:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10\Acrobat\.......
    Cannot open this file.
Please check that the correct path and filename are given.
Magically it converts but the problem is with the errors and sometimes the conversion isnt accurate. What port does this need to be on becuae I notices it defaults to COM1???
Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Please have the user post, we need much more information. Operating System, Service Package, 32-bit/64-bit. If 64-bit is the program 32-bit or 64-bit native? Version of the program DSS.  What kind of program is DSS and who makes it? Googling DSS doesn't help much since there are several choices.
