Adobe Photoshop CS and opening up raw files
I am looking for help with opening up raw files in my Adobe Photoshop CS version 8.0. I checked the camera raw which is version 2.0. I tried to update it to the 2.4 but I don't think I updated it right. Thank you for any help.
I assume you're trying to get to ACR 2.4 in order to open DNGs created with the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter?
What is your OS, Mac or Windows?
If you are on a Mac, see if the Photoshop menu has a menu item called "About Plug-in" which will lead you to Adobe Camera Raw and a box showing you what version of ACR you have installed. It's been too long since I used the ancient CS1, so I can't remember id that menu item was there already or not.
I don't know where that menu item is on Windows boxes.

Photoshop won't open my raw files and Bridge won't show thumbnails
Hi,
I'm having trouble with my Photoshop CS6 and Bridge CS6 on my Mac. It's been working fine until a few days ago, but now the image thumbnails won't load in Bridge, and I'm not able to open RAW-files in Photoshop (same thing happens when opening both from Bridge or in Finder).
When trying to open the files in Photoshop a pop up message shows up saying this:
"Photoshop cannot open this file.
If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates.
If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information:

I'm not able to click on updates, so that won't help me much. What can I do to get it back to normal again?I do not use a Mac but Windows as delivered from Microsoft does not generate Thumbnails for RAW files or even Photoshop Files like PSD in order to seen the in Windows UI like Windows File Explore (Mac Finder) or in File Open and selection Dialog one needs to install some windows add on. I use FastPictureViered Codec Package, When installed on Windows I can have the thumbnails your looking for. Perhaps You need some Mac add on or Apple Update the see thumbnails for RAW files. How do I get Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3 to show and open camerea RAW files?
I am not able to see or open Raw files from my Canon 40D in either Photoshop CS3 or Bridge CS3. At first I was able to open RAWS in Photoshop and then I followed directions on the internet at how to manually replace a Camera Raw Plugin so I could open it in Bridge and now neither of the apps work with RAW. In photoshop It says that the file is not supported.
I looked up what plug in I needed and it said 4.2 for a Canon 40 D. I also followed the instructions in the read me file that was with the plugin download. No results from it. I even tried to switch it back to the old plug in to see if I could atleast get back the capiblility of opening it in Photoshop even though bridge was not working...still can't open it in either. What am I missing?You should install Camera Raw 4.6.

Can Photoshop Elements 5 open the Raw files from my camera?
I have just began using raw instead of jpg, but cant open my images in Elements 5, even though manual says I can open the file stored on my c: drive thru editor, open. It says file is in incorrect format. Can someone please tell me how to convert the raw file in elements?

Photoshop crashes when trying to open any RAW files
Hi, I'm running PS 5.1 on a Mac Pro OS 10.7.5. Every time I try and open a RAW file (.DNG, .CR2 etc) Photoshop thinks about it then quits.
I have uninstalled then re-installed PS, cleared the caches, deleted the PS settings, downloade and installed Camera Raw 6.7.
Same files open OK on another Mac.
I had had problems with Bridge quitting a couple of weeks ago, which I resolved, don't know if that's related.

file>open has always been available, but when i select a file and open it is when it hangs. Hitting esc then has no effect.
Tried the reset preferences - still no change.
A friend suggested delete all network printers and voila - it worked! Still keeping fingers and toes crossed every time I use pshop, a little annoying that I have to send files to another machine to print (fortunately I rarely need to print files), and input devices hard to use with everything crossed.

How do I open my raw files in Photoshop that have been shot with a Nikon D1700?
I can't open my raw images in Photoshop, I have updated Photoshop but it is still coming up with ...' It means that you'll either have to use the Adobe DNG converter and convert your RAW files to DNG first, or upgrade to CS6, or use Lightroom to export (TIFF) to Photoshop.
I used the DNG converter for years before finally upgrading Photoshop. It was an extra step, but it just became part of my workflow - put card into reader, download RAW files, go grab a beer, batch convert to DNG, drink beer, edit in Photoshop. But had I known about how powerful Lightroom was I would have switched over to LR long before and just used that to export to Photoshop when necessary. -

How do I get Photoshop CS4 to open .RWL raw files, taken on a Leica DLUX5. I have a Mac 10.91.operating system and have tried downloading and installing Camera_Raw_5_2.dmg, which has failed to do the trick.

Hello, you should download the latest DNG converter: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
I suggest to contact Leica and ask them why they do not use the DNg format on that camera, as they do on their more costly models.

Opening multiple RAW files in Adobe Camera RAW
Former CS6 user. Now trying CC but can't find a way to select an open only the RAW files in ACR, in a folder that has both RAW and jpeg files. There are options for select certain types of files but RAW is not an option like it was in CS6. I need to be able to quickly open many RAW files in ACR without having to ctrl-click each RAW file to avoid opening the jpeg files.
I have more than 100 files in a folder. Half are RAW and the other half are the matching jpeg files. It is too cumbersome to use the ctrl key and select each of the 100 RAW files. You can select certain kinds of files in a dropdown box titles ALL FORMATS but unfortunately RAW files are not one of the options. In PS6, RAW files was one of the choices. I could screen for RAW files and then see only RAW files in my folder. I could then select one file, hold the shift button down and select any number of RAW files at once. I do thousands of pictures and need fast options. If all else fails I could select and open the RAW files do Adobe Camera RAW through Adobe Bridge but that adds another step.
So if anyone can figure out a faster way to open many RAW files at once in ACR, I would appreciate the help. -
Lightroom won't open my RAW files in Photoshop
I've had this problem for a few months now, but I thought I'd test the waters and see if there's anyone out there who can help me now. Here is a video of what happens when I try to open ANY raw file from ANY camera type in Lightroom to edit in Photoshop. This happens if I go through the menus or if I control+e to open them.
Photoshop CC Opening RAW Problem - vidme
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. I have reinstalled PS first and LR second like some have suggested. I've gone as far as reformatting my ENTIRE computer TWICE with two different OS versions and installing LR+PS on those versions, still no luck. My workaround has been editing the RAW files in LR, saving the metadata, then navigating to the folder in finder and opening the RAW files directly into PS. That works, but is horribly inefficient.
Anyone have any ideas? I am on the latest versions of LR and PS with my CC subscription.I do not use a Mac but Windows as delivered from Microsoft does not generate Thumbnails for RAW files or even Photoshop Files like PSD in order to seen the in Windows UI like Windows File Explore (Mac Finder) or in File Open and selection Dialog one needs to install some windows add on. I use FastPictureViered Codec Package, When installed on Windows I can have the thumbnails your looking for. Perhaps You need some Mac add on or Apple Update the see thumbnails for RAW files. This discussion is actually a follow on to an earlier one where I thought the issue was resolved. I am using CS5 extended 64 bit with WIN 7 64bit and ACR version 6.7. I verified the ACR version checking for updates and was informed I am up to date. According to the ADOBE help site ACR v 6.7 is available to open Nikon D800e raw files. However when I try and open these raw files there is a message that the camera model is not supported. Any help on why the raw files cannot be opened with ACR 6.7 is appreciated.
Thanks Noel - after several hours of experimenting, I found the issue. I use a stand a lone software, Nikon Transfer, to download images to the computer. The software allows me to preview/select, rename, and make simultaneous copies for backup. This software has worked without issue, however when downloading images from the Nikon D800e, it does something to the raw files making them incompatible with ADOBE's ACR and even Nikon's ViewNX 2 software. Now here is the real curosity. When Nikon Transfer is initiated from within Nikon View2 software and not as a stand a lone, it works, and ADOBE ACR 6.7 can read the raw files. Again thanks for the help.

My question concerns the impossibility to open RAW-files directly from the program Adobe Bridge. At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.

You probably need to update your Camera Raw plug-in for CS6 to something new enough to understand the 650D raw files.
The usual way you’d do this would be Help / Updates in PS. -
I just downloaded and installed Photoshop cc and the Camera Raw version is not the latest one available,so now I can no longer open files from my Nikon D750! Can I update ACR?
I have been using the new version of ACR with PS6 and have been able to open the D750 files,now I'm stuck.
