Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 won't start on my computer

Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 won't start on my computer I use windows XP.
Whenever I try to open the Photoshop I get a message "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
and at the bottom of the message "to see what data this error report contains, click here.
so I clicked, and that is what I got:
Error signature:
AppName: photoshop.exe
AppVer: 12.1.0.0
ModName: scriptingsupport.8li
ModVer: 10.0.0.0
Offset: 000d1a2e
I tried removing the program and re-installing, the same thing happened.
I would appreiciate any help.
Thanks.

The ScriptingSupport.8li that comes with Photoshop CS5.1 should have the module version 12.1.0.0 as well.
It sounds as if you have done something where you have mixed modules from an older version of Photoshop (CS3) into those that Photoshop CS5 is enumerating during startup.
Did you, by chance, copy the entire contents of a folder (e.g. plug-ins or scripts) and get extra files you didn't intend?
Have you set an Extra plug-ins folder up to point to the plug-ins for an earlier version of Photoshop?
Mixing up versions of Photoshop is a no-no.
You may want to start by clearing your Photoshop  preferences...  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediate after cold-starting Photoshop.  If you're quick enough, and you have to be VERY quick to get the keys down, it will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences it already has set up, which will then cause it to use defaults.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch after Mac update

I updated my mac yesterday to Maverick and now Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't launch.  Can you tell me what files I need to delete to get it to launch.  I tried reinstalling it, and that didn't help.
    thanks

It's very strange.  When I try to double click on the program to open it,
it's like I'm doing nothing.  it sort of blinks like it's going to open but
does nothing.  That's the way it is if I control click and try to open too.
I did try to reboot.  Is there something I could delete in the Library
    file or something?
    thanks

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 Crash Upon Start up -

    Greetings,
I am having a problem upon the launch of Photoshop CS5. I keep getting the following message:
"An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit"
Then I get a little window that is titled:  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library .... and within this window, it states:
    "Runtime error!     Program C:\Pro...
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information"
I installed Adobe CS5 Creative Suite about a month ago and it has been working perfectly. I have used Photoshop CS5 several times with no problems. I am not sure why all of a sudden, it generates this error and crashes or closes. All of the other programs in the suite work fine, ie.. Illustrator, Indesign, FLash, Bridge..etc.
I would appreciate any ideas or solutions to fix this problem. Also, I have Creative Suite CS4 still in my computer and that version of photoshop works fine, as well as the other programs. This problem is apparently only affecting my CS5 version of photoshop.
    System info:
I am running Windows 7 - 64bit on an Asus Essentio.     1tb hard drive, 8gb memory, i5 quadcore processor. ATI Radeon HD4350 video card and Soundblaster x-fi titanium audio card.
Again, Photoshop CS5 has been working perfectly for about a month. It just started doing this.
    Can anyone help?
Thank you, in advance, for your time.

    More or less standard advice:
Ensure you have the latest video driver (in your case from here:  http://www.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx)
Check 3rd party plug-ins, especially any that you have installed coincident with the appearance of this problem.
Check for any fonts you've added that may be corrupted.
Hold down Ctrl-Shift-Alt while starting Photoshop to return Photoshop's preferences to out-of-box defaults.
    Good luck.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 won't install in Lion

I am trying to install (from disk) Adobe CS5 Design Premium on an iMac running OSX Lion.
The 'install' package is grayed out and, when clicked, gives the message 'You can't open the application Install because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.'
CS5 is NOT a PowerPC application; it should be able to run under OSX 10.7.
Does anyone have any idea why Lion is registering the installer as a PowerPC application?

I've not had any issues installing any CS5 apps on Lion. You may find Adobe specific information on their forums at http://forums.adobe.com.
Good luck with your installation. I've read a lot of negative comments about Adobe apps and Lion but I've not had a single problem.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 and activations

    Hi everyone......
I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed on on Windows XP computer. As I understand, I am allowed 2 activations.  If I first deactivate and then uninstall CS5 on my current computer Will I then get both of my activations back?  I intend to buy a new system ( Windows 7) and I would first deactivate CS5 on the old system ( and uninstall it fron that system).
I was just wondering if the two activations you are allowed are lifetime or if you regain the activations back when CS5 is deactivated from within the program?
    thank you
    Joe

To further clarify, you need only deactivate, though if you plan to continue to use the computer for other things, uninstalling would free up some disk space.

    Hi,
We were getting similar errors after installing Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 Design Premium on Windows XP Professional SP3 and attempting to run the software as a standard user in the 'Domain Guests' group:
    Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5
Application starts but immediately closes shortly afterwards
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Flash CS5.5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: flash.exe AppVer: 11.5.1.349 ModName: flbridge.dll
              ModVer: 9.0.0.0 Offset: 000162d0
    Adobe Illustrator CS5.1
Application displays the following error on startup:
              Adobe Illustrator
              Error loading plugins.
              AISaveForWeb.aip
              DxfDwg.aip
              PNGFileFormat.aip
              [ ] Don't Show Again
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
AppName: indesign.exe AppVer: 7.5.2.318 ModName: support for javascript.rpln
              ModVer: 7.5.0.142 Offset: 000361a8
    Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
Application crashes on startup and displays the following errors:
'Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
         Error signature:
              AppName: photoshop.exe AppVer: 12.1.0.0 ModName: scriptingsupport.8li
              ModVer: 10.0.0.0 Offset: 000d1a2e
In each of these cases, I found eventually that the problem was because the user account that I was testing with was a member of the 'Domain Guests' group on the domain. (Other posts online seem to indicate that the same problem may occur if accounts are set up to use mandatory profiles, a Windows domain feature). In every case removing the user from the Domain Guests group and then logging on again resolved the problem.
I have yet to find a workaround for this issue other than removing the user from the Domain Guests group which does not involve removing some of the functionality from this software. Indeed if you run the software as a member of the local 'Guests' group, you get an error stating that this is not supported.
However if Adobe would like to troubleshoot the problem, it may well be caused by a call to RSACryptoServiceProvider and/or CryptAcquireContext returning NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE, as described in the following MSDN blog post:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/alejacma/archive/2007/10/23/rsacryptoserviceprovider-fails-when-us ed-with-mandatory-profiles.aspx
It seems as if these API calls were not designed to be called in the context of a mandatory and/or temporary profile (such as that created for a Domain Guest user account), and so if Adobe need to use these calls in their programs, they need to handle the NTE_TEMPORARY_PROFILE error and work around it if possible. (Searching for 'NET_TEMPORARY_PROFILE' in Google brings up a few possibilities).
If you are trying to use the software in the mean time try removing your user account from the 'Domain Guests' group and see if this helps.

  • E520 w/ 6630M 2GB card won't work correctly with "Advanced" OpenGL setting in Adobe Photoshop CS5.5

I'm having a problem using the "Advanced" OpenGL setting in Adobe Photoshop CS5.5. While I can select "Advanced" as an option, none of the advanced features are available to use (like flick panning and animated zoom).
I've updated my system with the latest video drivers (8.840.7.3000/6.14.0.3074) and BIOS (1.22/1.10/1.02), however, that's not working.
The video drivers packaged on the Lenovo site aren't the latest listed on the AMD site for the 6630M and I can't update my system with drivers from the AMD site.
This is a real issue for me since I bought the laptop as a design production machine and can't utilise the graphics card to its full potential. I wrote to AMD to ask them, which resulted in them pushing it back as Lenovo issue.

With other images same problem, no matter how large selection or small. There is always transparent silhouette of selection.
On other devices with the same images, tool work perfectly.
    Sorry for my english.

  • Need advice - "Adobe photoshop CS5 has stopped working" upon startup

    Hi All,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this as this seems to be a fairly common problem.
Basically, upon starting up PS it comes up with the error message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stopped working..."
I'm just working off a surface pro 2 with 256gb ram, i5 processor (I think)
I’ve installed no new drivers of late and not undertaken any system changes that I can think of that would affect the program.
Funnily enough it’s the same problem across all the adobe suite e.g. illustrator and indesign both won’t start up (illustrator has the same message whereas indesign’s error message mentions that it requires a certain amount of free disk space).
Hopefully that is enough info. Please ask if there is anything else that you would need to know in order to ascertain the problem.
For reference here is the excerpt from the windows error log:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 12.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4bbc5b10

Fingers crossed someone can help as I’m at the end of my wits here (my laptop died recently leaving me my tablet to finish some artwork for a deadline and now PS etc won’t work leaving me with nothing!).
    Cheers

    My scenario and history:
Windows Vista Ultimate and now Windows 7 Ultimate
NVidia Quadro Fx 4500 driving 4 monitors total SLi on or off - makes no difference.  Drivers irrelevant.
    2 x Xeon 5160 (so total 4 cores)
    24Gb RAM
    PS CS 4 or 5
4 monitors - - yep it is the 4 monitor thing.
    Fails everytime as you describe.
Observation - If you Remote Desktop Connection onto the computer - and so in effect are using only ONE monitor - PS works fine.
A WORKAROUND for 4 or 5 - I don't consider this a fix because you lose some functionality but it gets you 99% there and is the same workaround for CS4 or 5
    Go to<drive>:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64bit)\Plug-ins\Extensions\    (or CS4 - depending on version)
    Locate File:
    ScriptingSupport.8li
Disable this extension by renaming the file with a tilde in front of the file name.  Thus:
    ~ScriptingSupport.8li
Start Photoshop - it works and is mainly functional.
The only real downside I have discovered is that disabling this scripting extension means you cannot use some of the built in scripts under FILE - SCRIPTS - the biggest PIA for me being the Contact Sheet builder no longer works.  But as I now use Lightroom to create contact sheets - this is not a big loss.  Other scripting functionality - I am sure is affected - but not to a point I find PS unusable.
ADOBE - if you read this - it has been that extesion now for the last two editions of PS.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS5 sometimes shuts down unexpectedly.

After starting Adobe Photoshop CS5 (without selecting any photo) I enter: file>automatic>photomerge.
The result is an error message: Adobe Photoshop CS5 stopped working.
After that Adobe Photoshop CS5 shuts down.
I am using a Samsung PC, Intel Core i5 2410M cpu, Windows 7 Home 64 bits, 4 GB.
I re-installed the software but the error remains.

Thanks all for your help. I have done a lot of tests wich RAM changes:
I have 2 Banks with each have 2 slots (Bank 0/0, Bank 0/1, Bank 1/0, Bank 1/1). In each Slot is a 4 GB Module. All works fine to 12 GB RAM, but as soon I put a module in Bank 1/1, Photoshop (and only Photoshop) crashes with a kernel panic. All my other programs (Adobe Premiere 5.5, Avid Media Composer 6, Apple Final Cut Pro X, aso.) works fine.
So there are only 2 options: Bank 1/1 is corrupt because it is with each module (so the Modules works fine, I think), and therefor the Motherboard is corrupt, or Photoshop has a problem with over 12 GB RAM. Because I have no other machine with more then 12 GB RAM, I have attached a link with my test-file. It's only a simple file, and you need only to add 3-5 more text layers. If that works on other machines with 16 GB RAM, my motherboard is corrupt.
    Testfile: http://www.xtana.eu/x3rr5879/TEST400.psd.zip
Thanks again for all your help.
