Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Shutting Down

Whenever I open Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 it immediately shuts down and comes up with an error message. How do I fix this? And does it have anything to do with Windows 8?

Could you specify few details for your problems:
like System details, the Audio, Video formats, Project settings.
Also, display driver details would be helpful.

If you normally open with Organizer perhaps it is encountering a corrupt image in its cached folder on opening.
I just installed PSE 10 and set up a shortcut to go right to the full editor. See if that works for you.
If you have a lot of disk activity on starting, more than usual, previously installing certain plug-ins requires PSW to rebuild its cache system where these are stored.
In Organizer if you can set a preference to not open up the last folder used automagically, you might get it to start. Then when selecting folders to browse you can note which folder causes a crash. If you start the editor directly perhaps in preferences you'll find an Organizer setting to try this out.

The first error has nothing to do with Photoshop - that's some .NET application.
The second error is most likely connected to a third party plugin or driver.
And you're running Photoshop CC (14.x) instead of the current Photoshop CC 2014 (15.x).

  • I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and I wish to upgrade with Adobe Creative Suite 3 but the option is not coming up on the drop down menu

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and I wish to upgrade with Adobe Creative Suite 3 but the option is not coming up on the drop down menu

The first two issues sound like a video driver problem.
What is the make/model of your video card/chip?
What is the installed video driver number and date?
For the last issue, it could be many things, including the video driver. I'd look over this ARTICLE, and if there is nothing in the first part, then move on to tuning up the OS an computer in the second part. That would probably be a good time to post the full specs. of your computer, and also both your Project and Source footage. Finally, part three covers many troubleshooting tips, and furnishes many links.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS2 Photoshop Keeps shutting down! Adobe Tech. Supp. said to come here!

I know I'm using an older version of the Creative Suite Package...Adobe Tech Support said they won't support CS2 on the phone & that the best I can hope for is to come here soooo....
I've been using Photoshop for the better part of 3 years with little to no incident & last night I installed the Microsoft Office 2011 Package on my Macbook Pro & now, my Photoshop literally is shutting down every 30 seconds. It started when I tried to open a PDF file (which I've done a thousand times before) while having the Photoshop program open at the same time...
I removed CS & the CS2 Upgrade & reinstalled everything & now it's even WORSE...None of the Adobe Updates (especially the Photoshop 9.0 updater) are updating properly & Photoshop is shutting down even WITHOUT trying to open a PDF file- it stays open about 30 seconds & then disappears & asks if I want to report the problem to Apple or to ignore it or relaunch it....
HELP!!!  I'm going to remove the Office 2011 Package next in hopes of fixing it but how could the 2 not work together??  I've been trying to get this fixed for over 5 hours now & am getting a little frustrated
I need to get this fixed asap too because i use Photoshop about 60 hours a week for my business & need to be able to use it this weekend & next week!  I don't have the $$ to get the upgrade to CS5 right now...
Thanks for any help or info you can give so I can get this resolved!

I tried uninstalling it with an uninstaller but it didn't work/remove all of the components so i drug it to the trash & deleted it that way  Same with the MS Office package- i just drug it to the trash...
I didn't trash the Adobe preferences first...where should i do that?  Maybe that would fix it??
Photoshop didn't shut down all day & then I tried to open a PDF file with it (which i have done ALOT before with no problems) & it shut down today, repeatedly...now it shuts down when I'm not doing anything it- I just open it, & it just sits open for a few seconds & shuts down & gives me the Apple error that is "OS X Photoshop shut down unexpectedly ignore, report, relaunch?"  When I click Report & ask for details- here is what it gave me like 5 minutes ago:

I'm pretty computer savvy- but still learning a lot on MAC stuff & I don't have good answers to your last 4 questions...I MIGHT have a TWAIN enabled?  I do have a scanner/printer/combo that i've used with this laptop & I know it picks up remote ones when i go to clients offices...
I couldn't tell if there was a font conflict today when i was working in Photoshop- but that could be the situation- where would i go to check this out?  I can't keep photoshop open long enough to check & i've removed MS2011 now...
I don't know about haxies or photoshop plugins? & I don't know enough about this stuff to try testing anything or do much system maintenance (unfortunately) :-(  I guess I might after this huh? lol
Thanks SO MUCH for any additional direction or insight you can offer!!  :-)

  • Can't Download Photos to Adobe Photoshop Elements after iPhone Upgrade

Howdy, I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 with my iPhone ever since I bought my iPhone 3G when they came out and have never had any trouble. Whenever I synced my phone and there were new photos on it, Photoshop Elements would start it's photo downloader program and let me download the pics from my phone and put them in the organizer. Then it would let me delete them.
But this weekend I took a bunch of photos and now Photoshop Elements startes up during the sync as usual, but before it lets me download any pictures I get a message from Photoshop Elements saying "Downloader needs to close" (or something like that) and I never get the chance to download the pictures. The only way I have to get the pictures off my phone right now is to mail them as attachments.
A few days ago I upgraded to the 2.2 iPhone software and I was wondering if this might be the source of the problem. Has anyone else heard of any problems like this?

I'm having the same problem with Elements 6.0. The downloader starts up and I can see the first few pictures in the downloader before the error message comes up and the downloader must shut down. The only way to get pictures off the phone is through Win Explorer. But, when you try to remove the pics off the phone (i.e. move or delete) the phone reboots. The only way to remove the pics is one at a time on the phone itself.
It is extremely frustrating that Apple has created a decent way to sync music and video, but no iTunes way to handle pictures. Honestly I amazed that Apple has worked so hard to be the standard for music, etc. that they just leave it to the consumer to figure out the picture stuff. Come on Apple.

  • Installing Adobe Photoshop Elements Causes My Computer to Cut Out on Booting UP!

I have installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 on my new computer running windows 7 64 bit. I did not appreciate the problems. The first time that I installed it the computer shut down as soon as it was loaded and from then onwards it shut down within seconds of the computer booting up into windows. I used system restore to take the computer back to before Elements 10 was installed. The computer kept on switching off after windows had booted up. Took it into the technician who thought the PSU was at fault and he put in a new unit. The computer then worked fine until I installed Elements 10 and again the computer switches off as soon as windows as booted up. I have again used system restore to take the computer back to before Elements 10 was installed, still it switches off shortly after booting into windows. What can I do to get things to work properly?  I have a brand new computer that I am unable to use as a result of installing Elements 10. I am typing this on my old computer running Vista 34 bit with Elements 10 installed and all working well. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I have had a similar experience - Elements organizer crashed and even when not running, my computer froze after a few minutes.  My PC had never crashed before this installation.
    I found a solution though...
After a little sleuthing using task manager, I found that all the memory in my system (4GB) gets suddenly hogged (within seconds) by the "Elements Organizer" process (3GB) ... I found the service correspponding to this process, "Adobe Active File Monitor v10", stopped it and set autostart to manual.  My PC no longer crashes.
I think Adobe needs to look into this one - it has all the hallmarks of a nasty memory leak.
A couple of possible clues as to why certain systems don't take well to this service:
    - I have a few very large video clips (2hours+) on my PC
    - I installed trial products like light room, CS5 before settling on Photoshop+Premiere Elements - could leftovers after uninstalling cause conflicts?
    - I have other video editors on my system that I don't use, like Corel VideoStudio and Sony Vegas.
    Thoughts?

  • Why is my adobe photoshop elements 12 not working. it says initializing and then it says there is an error and closes itself

why is my adobe photoshop elements 12 not working. it says initializing then error and shuts itself down.

    Three things you can try:
    1. Clean the superdrive with a proprietory CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.
    2. Perform an SMC reset:

  • Having problems with aperture 3 on imac osx 10.7 and wish to install adobe photoshop elements 10, question will i loose all my liberary from aperture??

would i loose my fotos from the aperature library when i change to adobe photoshop elements 10. aperture keeps shutting my system down all available help has not done any good.  gmadeline

You'd only loose your Aperture libraries if you deleted them or damage them in some other way. The simple act of installing another app will not do this.
Of course you do realize that PS will not have any access to the Aperture libraries. If your originals are referenced then PS can get to them as it would to any file. If your originals are managed you will need to export them in order for PS to use them.
This all assumes you are abandoning Aperture for PS. If you are looking to do something else post back,

  • Adobe photoshop elements won't download updates

I recently installed adobe photoshop elements on my MacBook. Whenever I open the application, it automatically tries to update. I get this dialog box.
An error occured while attempting to download a file from the adobe online web server. The request was not understood by the server HTTP #400 Bad request.
Not only can it not download updates, it freezes my whole machine and I have to force a manual shut down by pressing on the power button for 5 seconds. In short, I can only use Photoshop Elements when I am not connected to the web.
I've also had trouble downloading Adobe Reader for pdf documents. I have no trouble on my PC. This seems very strange since Mac and Adobe are good friends.

    Hi famo-sa,
adobe and apple are truly good friend, but it also depend on what version of both that try to communicate each other.
First, 400 bad request is happen more because of browser send something that other end server cannot understand, for that, you can try to disable automatic update check on element and try to find updater using other browser.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh
And maybe since the elements is not universal yet, failed to do the update make your intel mac crash.
Try to repair permission: application folder > utilities folder > disk utility > repair permission.
and try to download reader from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
    Good Luck.

  • Adobe photoshop elements 5.0 ip address invalid

i have a adobe photoshop elements 5.0 downloaded into my laptop vista 32 bit now that i moved to another area the photoshop is telling me invalid ip address..the photo organizer is working but the photo edit & quick fix are not working...why is my product that i paid for doing this to me it shouldnt matter where ever i go i should be able to use it.. now i call adobe & they are not supporting this product any more so they send me to this sight.....help.adobe.com & forums.adobe.com...which is no help to me at all...photoshop what do i have to do to get some help please

I too experienced the invalid address issue. I am running winXP and my problem started after I had done a destructive recovery on my machine. I had been running pse 5.0 for 4 or 5 years and never had an issue with it. I looked at all of the corrections to try and make and then tried the very easiest. I am running Bitdefender anti-virus so I shut it down and my pse 5.0 started working perfectly. So I turned it back on and started trial and error with the individual settings. I finally found that i could set my realtime protection to permissive and pse works perfectly. I leave my protection on permissive while I use pse then change it back to default when I'm done. If you are running a different type of anti-virus, I suggest you try this simple trick before doing anything complex.
Good luck to you all, and remember to try the easiest things 1st.
    very sincerely, Lonnie

  • Problem opening Adobe Photoshop Elements 13

Problem opening Adobe Photoshop Elements 13

After unzipping Photoshop Elements 13, I received a error message saying
that PSE had detected an impending shutdown of my computer, and that I
should shutdown and restart the computer.  I had two button choices:
ignore or quit.  Given those choices, I quit, then shutdown the computer
and restarted.  I again unzipped PSE and attempted an install.  This time I
got a error message saying an installer was already running and I should
shut it down.  Having no clue as to how to shut down an installer, I
attempted (FOR 6 HOURS) to obtain assistance from Adobe technical support
and either waited for a return call, waited on hold, attempted to
communicate with someone who I could not understand from India, or was told
technical support was not available on the phone for PSE.  I finally gave
up and went to Chat.  There, attempting to explain what the problem was,
(see above), I guess I took too long to respond, the chatter closed the
chat, and I was not able to reconnect to chat.  After 5 attempts were
denied, I contacted a friend who has computer operations experience.  After
an hour of attempting various things, he told me to hit "ignore".  PSE
installed correctly and I'm now using it.  This was an extremely shoddy
performance by Adobe -- first a glitch in the install process, and then no
    help from tech support.
