Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 - Canon EOS5D Mkiii - RAW images

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9 installed on my iMac, operating system Version 10.9.4. I have upgraded my Canon EOS 5d Mki to a Mkiii and downloaded Adobe's Plug-in 6.5 update but I am unable to open RAW images from the Mkiii in Elements. They do open in Canon's software.Adobe offer no telephone support for this. Any ideas please?

You need camera raw 6.7 & PSE10 for the 5d mkiii. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 - Import to LR (60k images, success!)

I have been struggling to get an import of my PSE 5 library to successfully complete into Lightroom without crashing. Ready to give up I tried the following which worked like a charm:
    In Photoshop Elements 5:
    File -> Catalog -> Recover
I ran the above which took less then a minute or two. After running that Lightroom was able to import my entire PSE catalog (~59,000 images)! I wanted to share this in case anyone else is struggling with application crashing on import. Before I ran this, LR would take 2-3 hours and then finally crash out after importing only 3200 - 3700 images.
I haven't looked at all the specific collections/tags I had but I'm excited that I do see lots of info in those areas that got imported in.

I used Elements 5. It has a serious database problem that I don't understand why it isn't better known. I watched my database grow 500K to 1 M for each edit of a file. It was not with true information because a Recover would put it immediately back to where it was. I was "Recover"ing multiple times per day. So my database was compacted when I imported.
I have one friend with Eloements and he experienced the same database growth. Why this growth would crash LR is another issue.
This is a very important point for Elements users to know! In the Elements forum if you have any problem at all they tell you to Recover your catalog.
Now look at what you've imported and let us know whether you got your tags and the condition of your tags (were they nested)? I believe part of my problem is some tags were written to the files and what was in the files themselves had preference in the import (without asking me). Hence captions reverting to camera info put in there by a misguided camera company and tags not nested because there is no nesting in metadata. That doesn't explain the missing tags though.
This should probably be put in the FAQ as a suggestion. It can't hurt.

  • A not-deletable preview image is blocking my Adobe Photoshop Elements 11

Hello, thank you very much for your attention:
In the Organizer of Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 is an unconnected preview image named "7 Ostsee.wmv ". I am not able to delete this preview even after  having connected it manually. Since I can not delete this preview, Photoshop Elements 11 remains always hanging in the catalog backup. There must be a direct link between this file error and lost backup function.
I also have repaired and optimezed the catalog without any error message.

.WMV files is some of Windows Media file and you can move it to some other folder by launching the Windows Explorer and going to your pictures folder.  Click on that file once and press "Ctrl+X"  to cut it and then now go to your documents folder (or some other folder) and press Ctrl+v to paste/move the file in that folder.
Windows Media file are sometimes videos and all that and for that you need another adobe program like Adobe Premier Elements but I don't have much experience with it so ignore this for now.

    Hi Zach.
Sorry to say but Elements 12 came out several months before your camera. Adobe stops updating camera raw files for old software editions so that people have to buy new versions of the software when they get a new camera. It happened to me with LR3 when I got a new camera.
There are works rounds but they are a lot of extra steps and I think you would be converting the files to Some format other than RAW (tiff?) and which I am not sure will perform the same.
I think you just need to get a newer version of Elements.

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7
Which operating system are you using?
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Also, photoshop elements 13 will open those files as well.

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
For PSE 9, the update process was best using a manual method.
Are you trying to do Help - Updates?
If so try these downloads (fand follow the manual instructions given on the pages.
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 update

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 7   - Comparison with Picasa and Canon Zoom Browser

I have recently bought a new computer and connected it to a USB hard drive which contained all my photos and a copy of an Adobe Photoshop Elements (APE) 4 catalog which permitted me to run APE 4 directly from the USB drive. The new computer runs on Windows 7 with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. When I attempted to open the old catalog, created in APE 4 APE 4, APE 7 needed to convert it. The converted catalog then needed to reconnect with files and this took hours because APE seems to be incapable of sorting this out automatically. On the other hand Picasa 3 dealt with the matter in minutes and Canon Zoom Browser dealt with it in seconds. Why is this? What are the advantages of using APE 7 over Picasa 3 or Canon Zoom Browser?

    John McQuade wrote:
I avoid keeping photos on the C Drive of my computer because of adverse past experiences of losing data when problems arose and it was necessary to reinstall Windows. I prefer to use two separate hard disc drives connected to my computer using  USB ports so that I have all photos and catalogs on each drive. PSE catalogs appear to be drive letter specific so that a catalog created on one drive will not function if simply copied to the other. In PSE-4 I overcame this problem by opening the copied catalog and changing all references to drive letters. In PSE-7 I am unable to open the database and my goal is to find a quick and efficient way of modifying a copied catalog so that it functions on a drive different to the one on which the catalog was created.
Finally, and at long last, a kindred spirit that won't keep photos on the OS drive. I was told as recently as >> yesterday << that my post about saving photos anyplace else but  "C:/" was "non-sequitur".
Second, I'm sort of accustomed to "USB drive", as a synonym for "flash drive", and "Ext HDD" referring to an external HDD, (this makes sense, at least in my twisted individual perception), so accordingly, I apologize for my knee-jerk lecture about it.  (In hindsight, perhaps the only child in me is expecting too much also).
I never use external HDDs, but rather install additional HDDs internally to accomplish the same net result. My sensibilities here are, they are quite a bit less expensive, they do the same job, and you don't have addional s*** laying all over the place.
IMO, you are overthinking the database issue. I get to say that since I have no such ability to do so, and additionally, I have never been unable to reconnect a catalog other than within the normal Windows environment.
Therefore, I suggest changing the drive letter(s) to that of the old drive(s), and remain in blisslful ignorance as to whether PSE-7 is using the SN# or Drive letter to do its "dirty work".
As Mr. Ellis has pointed out, you're trying to do too many things at once. I'm going to suggest an "experimental" fix which is sort of backwards from Mr. Ellis', but retains the same spirit.
Install PSE-4 on the NEW machine! Insert its catalog file into its (PSE-4) correct folder. This location can be found by "Help" > "System Info".
Upon installation, PSE-4 will generate a new catalog, "My Catalog", therefore you must change the old catalog's name, (say "My Catalog 2"), to avoid a conflict.
You might have to change the "compatibility" mode for PSE-4 several times, before PSE-7 will be able to follow the file path.
As an additional note, since PSE-7 is technically, (according to Adobe), "incompatible", you can match its compatibility mode with PSE-4's, at the onset. After you have stabilized the system, change PSE-7's mode back to whatever works best.
If you need any more info on these operations, please feel free to post back.
I would like to add, that my PSE-7 in Windows 7 runs poorly in comparision with the same program in the XP environment. This seems not to be "typical", but IMO, worth mentioning.
Please also bear in mind that you can paste the entire catalog file into the "Open Catalog" dialog box, and PSE will place in its folder for you...!
Then, assuming the HDD letters are the same, it will reconnect "instantly", or in the case of a PSE-4 ".psa" cat file, PSE-7 will convert it, then open it instantly.
As an afterthought, by changing the drive letters, then pasting the .psa file into the "Catalog Open" dialog box, you do not have to make any additional installations of PSE, nor muck about in any database.

  • Raw files Adobe Photoshop Elements  & Nikon D7100

Raw files from my new camera Nikon D7100 is not supported with my current Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. I have uploaded Adobe DNG converter for now but would like to know if I purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements 12, would it support the raw files from my new camera? I do not want to pay for the upgrade if it doesn't support the RAW files either. How do I know if the upgrade will work without me having to use the DNG converter step as well? Thanks.

How do I know if the upgrade will work without me having to use the DNG converter step as well?
By cross-referencing two tables maintained by Adobe.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
This one says the Nikon D7100 was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw 7.4. All later versions of ACR also support that camera.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
This one says PSE12 ships with ACR 8.1. That can be updated via Help > Updates to the current version (ACR 8.3).
So PSE12 definitely supports the D7100.
In addition you can download the trial version of PSE12 and use it for free for up to 30 days before buying it.
