After 3 different downloads (2 in Safari, 1 in Firefox) I still get this message when I try to open Lightroom package: “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.pkg” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image. I have a feeling it has to do with 3rd-party software on my Mac OSX 10.8.2 - how do I get around that?

If you have already tried an alternate web browser then your next step would be to try an alternate Internet connection. Perhaps try a wired connection if you are using wireless for example.

Dowloaded Coldfusion from the Adobe website, both with Safari as with Firefox
I want to install Coldfusion 10 on my Macbook. OS X 10.7.4 ( so not 10.8 ). When I double click the
.dmg file , I always get "“Adobe ColdFusion 10” can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image." error. Never had this before. I've read about setting security on 'non signed packages', but this applies to 10.8.
Is this a known issue ?

The subject line of this discussion is what is displayed when I go to try to install Adobe Flash. I have a Mac OS X 10.9.3. I had Flash downloaded for a while, but the last update wouldn't update. It would download, but then when I went to open it it would say "Retrieving Install" and the meter would remain at 0%. It never went a step beyond that. After trying many times, per the instructions of the website, I deleted Flash from my computer using the Adobe uninstaller downloaded from this site. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close. (ver 1.4.1)

I completed a search for this problem here and other forums, and found very useful information, however, I still need help. My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv1000, Intel Centrino, Windows XP, 1.24G of RAM; Camera is a Canon 5D, shooting JPEG only.
After a couple of weeks enjoying a vacation in the Caribbean, it was time to load all the new pics in the computer. I removed the card from my camera and using windows explorer, downloaded all pics in MyPictures folder. I created a new folder for this trip, and while I was there, I decided to reorganize several folders from previous trips. I renamed and moved folders around, deleted pictures, etc. (I believe that all the changes that I made created my problem.)
Once I finished all the changes with my folders, I launched Lightroom (ver 1.4.1) with the idea of synchronizing the folders and start working on my new pictures. After apx 8 seconds, I got the message: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
After a google search, I found a lot of potential answers to my problem, including this one, which I tried:
"It might also be worth trying a temporary test catalog, just to see whether it's specific to that catalog. To do so, go to File menu > New Catalog and create a new catalog somewhere easy - Desktop perhaps - and just try importing a few photos into that test catalog and see if you can get it to freeze. I'm wondering if the catalog's been damaged slightly by that initial unexpected close, and if so, we'll see if we can get that sorted out for you."
I did exactly that (created a test catalog) and I don't get the error. I am not clear on what does that mean. Could you help me understand it? What do I need to do to use my old catalog? Is it damaged? How can I fix it? Did I loose all the work that I did in my previous pictures?
If I go back to my original catalog, I still get the error.

Here's something you might try:
Create a new, empty catalogue and try File->Import from catalog... and specify your broken one as input. With luck the damage will be left behind.
If that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your preferences file. Look here for its location.
And if that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your presets folder. See that same website for details.
Let us know how you make out.

I'm having a bit of a problem installing LR4.1 on my MBP (details below.)
I've tried installing a few times, along with rebooting and running disk repair on the disk.
This is the error I get in the console is as follows:

Okay — I tried downloading with Safari instead of Chrome. I ran the installer and had the exact same error.
Then I logged into another user account on the machine — the 'useradmin' one that our IT guys put on all the laptops and ran the installer. The same error occured eventually, but something new happened — I was told that the installer was untrusted and when I went to reveal more, I thought I should grab a screenshot, which I've attached.
If I click the "Always trust.." checkbox, I still get the error.
Weird.
Let me know what else to try — I'll do whatever you suggest.

If the code you are trying to enter has letters then you are not looking at a serial number. A serial number only contains numbers - 6 sets of 4 numbers.

I went just downloaded ADOBE AIR and when I try to use it to install one of my Apps I get the message, "Abobe AIR Application Installer" is damaged and can't be opened.

I have a problem with a Java application I made using Jar Bundler and then a disk image using Disk Utility. (I did this when I was still using Lion on this computer.) The dmg file was uploaded to a server for students to download. Everything works as expected on all Mac OS except Mountain Lion, where the disk image mounts, but the app cannot be run, (whether double-clicking or right-clicking and choosing Open), producing the message:
“xxx.app” is damaged and can’t be opened.
On Lion, I get a message warning me that it is a file downloaded from the Internet, but I can still choose to open it. But on Mountain Lion, the message is that it (the app) is damaged. Interestingly, I used my other Lion computer on my network to log in to my MountainLion (10.8.4) computer to access the same dmg file and mount it and run the app without problem. I also tried the opposite, downloading the file on the Lion computer (where it works fine) and logging in from the Mountain Lion computer to mount the dmg, but I get the same "damaged" dialog, with no option to open it.
What is Mountain Lion doing? How can I get around this? I need students to be able to download this and run it on their computers, and a good many use Mountain Lion. Any ideas what is happening?

I found the solution since I have been having the same problem. The error message really needs to be updated to give a better indication of how to resolve the issue.
Apparently, Gatekeeper is the cause of the problem. Here is how to fix it.

I have installed Eve online.
With the first try to start it I received message "Eve Online is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash".
I know my Gatekeeper may protect me from apps downloaded from internet so I tried open Eve online application with Ctrl also. I tried open it using context menu also.
Everything ended with same message = Damaged move to Trash.
Re-download and reinstall resulted in the same behavior (almost 8GB download).
However I found out later on that disabling Gatekeeper by selecting "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere" is the only way how to solve it.
When Gatekeeper is off application works without any problem.
So my question is: Is this behavior of Gatekeeper correct?
I do not think so. Gatekeeper should stop mark applications as broken if they are not. It can be marked as dangerous. It can be marked as Blocked. But it should say always: Gatekeeper marked it as dangerous because ... Gatekeeper blocked it from start because ....
Am I right? Should I write a bug report for this or there is something I missed?

To be honest I checked it and I found their suggestion to switch off Gatekeeper.
However I expected I can avoid Gatekeeper using Ctrl or starting application from context menu because I prefer to keep Gatekeeper switched on for regular work.
I know now, that I cannot. The only way is to disable Gatekeeper generally.
But the question is: Do you think that message "Application is broken..." is valid for case when Application is evaluated by gatekeeper as potentially dangerous? Based on this experience I see it wrong. Application is working ok and Gatekeeper marks it as broken.
