Adobe, please get AME's act together, these random errors are inexcusable in a professional environment

Hi Adobe, just want to say thanks for making me piss off a client this morning as the videos I was exporting out to the cloud for review ended up not all being available because Media Encoder decided once again to randomly fail on export.
Here's the thing about the three exports. They were all done in the exact same timeline, all have the same basic three way color corrector effect on them. The only difference between the content is that it's divided among three exports. There's absolutely nothing different content wise, yet by looking at this, you would think so.
This is honestly inexcusable in a professional environment, and I'm beyond fed up dealing with AME's nonsense. How can fixing AME's idiocy NOT be the top priority? Screw adding features to other products, get your brainpower together to figure out exactly what you all can do to make professionals feel safe and secure in using your products. Do i seriously have to time to have my deliveries done a day before they really NEED to be done just in case your program decides to randomly fail? To top it off, I love how the error log gives absolutely no detail, ever, and only just says "unknown error".
Seriously. You guys. Please. Enough already.

Could you please turn off the "Import sequences natively" option in the AME preferences and try again. Please let me know if that doesn't resolve the issue for you and we'll try some other troubleshooting.

    Well, today has kinda sucked hard for me. I called Adobe to find if new serials will be issued to DVRack and Ultra2 users or if a patch will be made available so that we can activate inside Vista and was met with a "rep" from India. Seriously, this dude didnt speak English very well nor could he read from his scripts very well either. He had NO CLUE about either product or the names that replaced them.
    So I ask for an order tracking and he says he's unable to do that. Then he puts me on hold and says he will find out when I will get my package (notice I didnt say I gave him my order number)and he returns and says my package should be here tomorrow. I ask him how the hell would he know that without having my name nor my order number and he said he was a good guesser. I kid you not. What a maroon.
    So I call back and get an American this time (thank God) and they said that they will NOT be issuing a patch nor new serial numbers for previous owners and that IF we want to activate inside Vista, we must buy new versions of the product and when I reminded him that neither was sold separately nor could be upgraded separately, he then provided me with the two suite upgrades.
    Seriously? So Adobe has basically told past Serious Magic customers to piss off? I am an Adobe customer but also was a Serious Magic customer. So now I have 2 licenses for DVRack and one for Ultra2 that I cannot use in Vista and Adobe doesnt seem to care.
    It doesnt help either when someone who doesnt speak or comprehend the language correctly is trying to be the first level of customer interaction.

    That would happen in most cases if they wrote bug free intuitive software. Adobe don't, Apple don't but its the bug count that matters and how they handle it.
    Everytime I have had a problem with FCP (I am new to it so I assume its my problem) I call Apple using my support code (they give us this on purchase of their software) and I get put thru to someone in the USA immediately. Now I am in Australia and usually call 'Australian time' and these FCP tech support guys are there 24/7 so thats gotta say something.
    If I ever go for support and get an Indian accent (Microsoft for example) I usually say "can I speak to someone who can speak English?" - for me time is money and having to repeat everything twice, sometimes three times is very annoying.
    Patrick you have to calm down a little; venting is good for your blood pressure release and you have a right to tell others of your bad experiences. Lets face it, many people read these forums when considering buying the product; your and many other peoples comments affect their buying decisions which in turn affect Adobe's revenue.

    You made the deadline (barely as Josh says), and some kind soul jumped the gun and put Pr 4.1  on the server one day early. In spite of expressed trepidations that it was incomplete, it turned out to be exactly the same file that was officially posted the next day.  Thanks, whoever you are.  I have been impressed so far, thanks to my extra day of testing and working without that previous PIA called 4.01 that took forever to fix.
    Pr 4.1 is on its update page, AE 9.02 is on its update page, and in record time if my memory serves me well, but AME is nowhere to be seen. And for us with Production machines nowhere near the internet, that's like getting a new car that came without wheels and sits on blocks waiting for their arrival to go somewhere.  The engine sounds great, the accessories seem to all work thus far, But.......
    Please, someone, a janitor, anyone. put the last vital *&%$^#@ piece up, so I can finish my testing.

    Here's how my renders have been going:
    I'm color correcting, do AE stuff and basically just experimenting with the movie while I work to pay for final mix while it is getting done. Because the ausio guys do one reel at a time (two reels almost down) I can still screw around with the reels they haven't sone. POINT IS, for months I've been prerendering the reels and movie making dvd's of various cuts and playing them wherever I guy
    I render each reel to DVD-MPEG using the high quaility preset (one pass).
    The reels are 10-15 minutes long.
    There are around 500 media files in the project (Not including the 30+ AE linked comps).
    Not sure how many actual edits in each reel but I did have 10-15 audio tracks of temp music. Most of it is DVCPRO HD 1080 24pa source with stills and various framerates and resolution clips(everything a minute of 480i, 720p and 108060i)
    4.0.2 it took 12-15 minutes to render each reel if I clicked the use 'use' preview file. I remember because i messed with it for months.
    Now with version 4.1.666 they rendered in 8-9 minutes.
    AND I didn't have to wait a minute or two for the reels to start rendering. 4.1 starts in like 5 seconds.
    Also when I open PR or AE project using AME. It doesn't make me wait at least a minute like to pick the sequence to render. Does it right away.
    Only odd thing so far.
    When I have media batched and ready to render, if I wanted to change the render settings, it took over a minute for the menu to pop up now it's usually right away.....BUT when I restart AME and try to change the render settings is Custom, not a preset, it takes 5 minutes for export settings panel to open!!!

    Hello all. I'm just done with a 3 month proyect, and I just lost it all.
    I'm so worried about what I have done, please let me explain clearly so maybe someone can help me.
    So I had finished my proyect in NB, and I decided to change the default name of some variables of a jFrame class. As you know, NB allows you to do it easily by right clicking on the component and selecting "change variable name".
    Once I was done with that, I noticed that it did not automatically update all concurrences in the source code, so I had to manually change it, which of course I did not.
    So basically, I deleted this jFrame class from my proyect because I thought I had the original source code anyway, so I could copy-paste it in a new jFrame class and all would be solved.
    I was so fool ! I cannot create a new jFrame class in NB and copy-paste the source code of the original jFrame class (the one that had the default names for the variables) to the new jFrame class because it does not replace the initComponents() method which is in 'gray' and cannot be manually modified !! you know what I mean right ?
    So the only possible solution that I see is to redone all GUI from scratch.
    Any Help?

    I've done that and I cannot compile the file because of missing libriaries ( ex. org.netbeans.lib.awtextra )Great, so you've actually created dependencies upon your IDE in your application?
    Anyway, this won't affect the "cut'n'paste-to-a-file & copy into project" solution. If it does you're setting your file up incorrectly within the project. You'll have to find a NetBeans expert to help you with that.

  • Why is installation so complicated?  Why can't Adobe and Microsoft get their act together?

    I was offered an update to Flash Player.  Downloaded it but then was told I had to agree to the licensing agreement but it will not show me the agreement except for a few lines of it.  Why do you make things so complicated?  Explorer tells me there is a know compatibility problem with Adobe.  (I'm running a 32 bit Vista system.)  Why can't Adobe and Microsoft get their act together?

    I don't know what (exactly) your problem is, or what Microsoft has to do with it, but did you click the little checkbox left of "I have read and agree..."?

    Are these purchases from the App Store or iTunes Store?
    Contact your credit card company and dispute the charges. Apple and Adobe will do nothing for you - it is your CC issuer that can help.

  • Nokia - Get Your Act Together With This Important ...

    Hi all,
    Here are my main gripes with Ovi Suite:
    1. PC Suite was better and faster.
    2. Takes about 3-4 minutes to connect the phone.
    3. When syncing contacts no opition to make the phone no. 1 priority for sync, therfore you often end up with multiple copies of same contact and/or deleted contacts re-appearing - probably from Ovi online and Ovi Suite.
    4. Doesn't recognise personal folders in messages.
    5. Often crashes when syncing contacts.
    C'mon Nokia get your act together

    workaround to fix crash is to disable synch contacts with ovi.com - many people have the same problem with many phones and o/s but it appears either Nokia does not care, or never looks in here or inthe Beta Labs area where the same undocumented feature is reported

    Hi Guys
    I am having some real issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) at the moment.  It appears that I am unable to encode an h.264 for Vimeo from a Premiere Pro Project file at the moment without at least some weird image issues that are not supposed to be there.  These include weird flickering, colour changes, artefacts etc.  This is if I am lucky...often I am unable to get the process to complete as the application either crashes and tells me there has been a problem or it simply freezes and I have to force quit the application and often restart my machine.
    The problem seems to not to just be with h.264 for the web encodes but also with BluRay h.264 as well. As yet I haven't seen if there is a problem with MPEG-2 for DVD so I will check this out too!
    Does anyone else see this happening or does anyone know what might be the problem?
    I thought the Premiere Pro project might have been corrupt so tried a different project but the same issues were happening here too.
    Any help would be really gratefully received.

    Agreed, I now have a project to GET OUT, and AME crashes consistently 1/3 into the render. It appears to halt all processing after (real time) 00:02:30
    Am seriously considering uninstalling CC as I am beginning to find other issues in some apps, and going back to CS6/MC just so I can get work out. Durn it Adobe this is AWFUL!!
    Alright, let's try to be constructive instead of throwing rocks... but the frustration level is high, and I have material on deadline. Let's get with this, guys...
    What OS Win7, 64-bit
    What version of AME/PPro (Please be specific by getting the full version number in the About Adobe Media Encoder screen) 8.2.0.54 Ppro: 8.2.0 (65)
    When is it crashing (Again, the more detail here about where it was in the encoding process the better) roughly 1/3 into the sequence, always on exactly the same frame - tried replacing the clip with something different to see if it was a timeline error, and NO EFFECT.
    What is your source (PPro project or media file (what kind?)) PPro
    If the source if a PPro project, does it work when exporting directly from PPro? NO
    What format are you exporting to? H.264, QT, WM, tried everything my client can play.
    Do other formats work? MPEG2, QuickTime, etc? NO
    Have you tried with GPU rendering on? How about turning it off by switching to Software-only mode? Mine doesn't have any choice, it's software-only.
    Have you tried disabling Native Sequence Loading? (AME Preferences: General > Enable Native Sequence Loading) No effect
    Other things I tried: uninstalling/reinstalling AME, setting cache to a fast local disk.

    Windows 7 x64, fully patched.  Go to adobe.com to update Shockwave Player, hangs after accepting run of .exe file. Even when I go to the direct download link, I get:
    "c:\Windows\system32\Adobe\Director\SWDNLD.EXE
    Error opening file for writing"
    When I look for that path, "c:\Windows\system32\Adobe..." does not even exist (either not there pre install attempt, or removed by install attempt.
    Adobe, can you please get your act together and sort this with an updated download?

  • Adobe, please stop running from this issue! (GPU vs CPU anomalies / fades)

    Adobe,
    I have tried to bring this issue to light many times, and your own users have argued it ad finem, but to no avail! I am TIRED of getting terrible alpha blending (and opacity curve) results with GPU acceleration enabled, vs CPU. In fact, it is SO BAD that I NEVER work with GPU acceleration any more.
    Here is the issue:
    When GPU acceleration is enabled, you simply CANNOT do a smooth fade and/or cross dissolve. It appears to fade down smoothly to about 20% opacity, and then the next frame it will jump right to 0% quite abruptly and disappear. It's almost as if the fade simply gives up and switches off! Regardless of whether you use Cross Dissolve, or Film Dissolve the results are the same. Also, your alpha blending is all messed up, CLEARLY showing a different result when comparing CPU and GPU rendering outputs. Once again, this issue ONLY exists with GPU acceleration ENABLED. Switch off GPU/MPE and the problems disappear. But of course you lose the speed and other benefits GPU acceleration offers, which would be great to have! Especially seeing as I have also heard (from various other resources) that GPU acceleration can improve the quality of rendering out to compressed formats like H264. But we will never know that, will we? Because, every time I enable GPU, my fades and blending looks noticeably bad!
    I have seen in various other threads that your response has been along the lines of: "That's just the way it is". But unless your name is Bruce Hornsby, this response is unacceptable! You cannot advertise a "great feature" of your products (in this case, GPU/MPE), yet when people try to use it and see odd results, simply tell us: "oh by the way, yeah, it does not work in a few scenarios, like fading, but otherwise you are good to go!" The way I see it: cross-fades (even fades in general) as well as opacity/blending are some of the most common, if not THE most common techniques used in video projects! Having an anomaly of this nature showing a DISTINCT difference in quality output when one of your fantastic "features" is enabled is just poor form. What is evern poorer is your responses (or lack thereof) related to the issue. Especially seeing as this problem has been present since CS5, and now we are STILL seeing it in CC!

    Now I am using CC, latest version, up-to-date, a fast i7 processor, a CUDA supported card, and all of those go to waste because I have to have GPU and the mercury playback engine disabled to yield decent quality results.
    I implore you, not just for myself, but on behalf of everybody here who has already addressed this issue, but has had their pleas fall on deaf ears: PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM. Telling us simply that: "This is the way GPU cards choose to render" is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It's just like me saying when I drive my car on the wrong side of the road: "that's just the way I drive!". Doesn't mean it is acceptable!
    You may have won people over since Final Cut Pro screwed the pooch with version X... but I can guarantee if this does not get resolved soon, the issue won't just be isolated to the forums here. Expect to read about it in MANY online publications that I am sure your competitors will ENJOY watching!

    And here is an example of what I am talking about:
    CPU only (MPE and GPU DISABLED):
    This appears to be what I would consider accurate, as it is not only well blended, but the fades work smoothly thanks to it relying on the CPU...
    GPU (MPE and GPU ENABLED - Linear Color ON - as per default):
    This provides identical image quality/blending results as the CPU only benchmark. However, the fades are very abrupt, as per the original problem...
    GPU (MPE and GPU ENABLED - Linear Color OFF, as per your recommendation):
    This is your recommended solution. The fades are as smooth as they are in the CPU version. But as you can see the color, alpha and blending are VASTLY different. Actually, it looks HORRIBLE! The BG text is barely visible, and the foreground text appears to be more prevalent over the top of the back layer, making its fade-up quite disjointed and selective.
    ...So as you can see, the "solution" you provided seems to create more problems and/or inconsistencies in the overall output. Now we have no idea what is the "standard"!
    I personally find these inconsistency's very concerning. And I am sure I'm not the only one. Please tell me there is actually a logic to this "solution" and it wasn't a simple duct-tape fix that nobody there at Adobe actually looked deeper into to see exactly how it would effect overall image quality! It sure appears that way!
    I appreciate that you, Kevin, are not directly responsible for this issue, and you are indeed a representative trying to help. But please realize that for many of us here, we are LONG time Premiere users, with years of experience and influence in this industry, and this definitely isn't our first rodeo! When we flag these issues we do so out of a REAL need, which means the consequences Adobe faces as a result of not addressing these issues are equally as REAL! As such; I encourage you to expedite the process of resolving this issue, because it has been prevalent since CS5.5, and the fact that it is not been resolved and/or has been addressed poorly does not bode well for your overall reputation. Especially when you are trying to make Premiere the industry standard. Like I said, I would hate to have to look at alternatives, so give me a solution, because if I decide to move on from using Premiere, I won't be the last. And no, I am not being melodramatic here. If a piece of software cannot seem to get something as simple as fades and blend modes right (or at least CONSISTENT), how can the software be trusted to handle high-end workflows? Food for thought.

  • I am getting the "Original File Cannot Be Found" error with 4000 exclamation points.  Please help...

    To start from the beginning I originally kept my iTunes library on my internal hard drive.  However, it was getting large and I needed to move it so I moved it to an external drive.  Then I recently upgraded my internal hard drive to a 1 TB hard drive so that I would have plenty of space for everything.  I then moved my iTunes library to the new drive, or so I thought.  It is all technically there.  (As you can see from the bottom screen shot.)  However, for some reason iTunes is looking in the trash for a good portion of my library.  (I have 4400+ songs and 4000+ of them are showing the exclamation point and this error.)  I know that I must have done all of the moving around incorrectly.  (I followed directions from some blog I googled, big mistake.)  Now I just want to get my library how it should be.  All back together on this new internal drive with no dups etc.
    I have over 4000 songs giving me this error.  I can go in one by one on each song and find it in the iTunes Media folder.  But I certainly don't want to do it that way.  Here is the info on where the song(s) seem to be currently:

    Just FYI, I know that apparently iTunes is looking for this music in the trash.  However, if I go here:
    Then I find the music there as well.  (Which is where it is in my preferences.)
    Please help!  I don't want to have to go through over 4000 songs and update them one by one.  The music is apparently in both the trash and in my iTunes media folder.  How do I get iTunes to look for these 4000+ songs in the right place without going in one by one to fix them?

    When tracks in iTunes display a it means the file cannot be located; it may have been moved or deleted. For this issue, we will need to refer to the following article:

    Alternatively, if your media was downloaded from the iTunes Store, you may be able to download it again free of charge. You'll want to first delete the tracks from your list in iTunes, then access the purchased page:
