Adobe plugin cannot set Page Display Preferences

I have a lot of scanned documents and read them within IE 6.0 through a web interface using a custom solution. I have to use IE 6.0 so I can't just upgrade or use another browser, unfortunately. The issue is that now, all of a sudden, the documents open up in Fit Page view instead of Fit Width view. I have set preferences in the Adobe Reader application and tried to change them in the plugin window, but it never keeps it's settings. I have tried Adobe reader versions 6, 8, & 9 and they all do the same thing. I have tried changing the setting in the plugin then closeing everything and rebooting, but it still doesn't keep the settings. Is there a configuration file or a registry setting for the plugin that I can force a value? I've been working on this for weeks now and I can't think of anything else I can try.
Thanks in advance
Jason

Thanks but I am using  Edit>Preferences>Page Display but it will not say what I set it to after restarting the program.

  • Page Display Preferences

I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2 on Widnows 2008r2 and am having a problem saving my settings.  I am trying to change the Page Display preference Page Layout from Automatic to Two-up.  I set that preference and it works fine until I close Acrobat.  When I open it again the preference is set back to Automatic.

  • Changing Page Display Preferences

Is there a way to change the page display preferences for all PDFs using the registry or something that can be scripted on install.
I want to hide the navigation panel buttons on the left and untick the "Create Links from Urls" checkbox..
    Any help is most appriciated.
    Thanks

I think I've figured out how to solve this pixelation problem. Apparently the problem is not specific to Acrobat, but can arise with some older programs that weren't designed for Windows 8 (see more here). The solution is to follow the steps outlined in that link: pin Acrobat to the task bar, right click and select Properties and then the Compatibility tab, then make sure the box next to "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" is checked. Voila, now the Acrobat 10 interface appears in beautiful high resolution.
I hope this helps anyone who might have this problem down the road!

  • Reader not honoring Page Display preferences

Hello. I am using Adobe Reader X on Win7 Ultimate (x64).
I have set the following in Edit - Preferences - Page Display:
    Page Layout:     Single Page Continuous
    Zoom:               Fit Width
Resolution:        Use system setting: (96 pixels/inch)
However, no documents will open fit to the width.
I have experimented with various settings for the Page Layout, Zoom and Resolution, however, many times a document will not be opened fit to the windows width. What am I missing?
    Thanks.

Oh. I was afraid of that answer.
I am generating this document using a system called LATEX (which I have no idea how to use). I figured out I have to add "pdfstartview=FitH" to the hyperref command, like this:
\usepackage[pdfstartview=FitH]{hyperref} % For PDF clickable links - load this last.

  • I cannot print pages displayed by firefox, the printing just hangs when I go to File--- Print and press print.

If I want to print a page displayed by Firefox, I do the usual, I go to file, choose Print and press Print on the print window. Then the printer just hang, nothing happens.
No problem with MSN, Word, WordPerfect, Yahoo, etc
    Thanks for your help.

There's no "pages" of information, it's one long page of preferences.
'''print.printer''' will be listed multiple times, there are like 3 dozen or more preferences for each printer. If you have more than one printer there will be groups of prefs for each printer.
You can try resetting only '''print.print_printer''' and then restart Firefox, and see if that solves your problem. But chances are that you may need to reset every pref for that printer.
Also make sure that you don't have multiples of the same prefs for that printer. It is very possible that you may find duplicates like this or similar. <br />
    '''print.printer_HP Officejet 6500_Series(2).print_evenpages'''
    (2) or (3) in a pref means you have multiple prefs for the same printer ''(usually caused by installing the print drivers multiple times without uninstalling the old drivers first)'', and that can cause problems with Firefox; the "printer" driver you select probably ain't gonna be the one that is really "installed". If you see something like that, you will definitely need to reset every pref for that printer; the duplicates will be gone after the restart and won't return after you use your printer the first time after the reset.

  • Cannot set page margins to zero

I am exporting a Crystal report using HTML 4.0 format.  When the report is viewed via a browser the white space in the margins is being displayed.  I have tried to zero out the margins to eliminate this issue but Crystal Reports will not let me set the margin values to zero.  I am currently running 11.0.0.1282  Is this a know issue and is it fixed in any product updates?

The margins are an issue because they are the causing unnecessary white space my web pages.  I am exporting this report as a single  page (deselected Separate HTML Pages).  So I have 2-3 lines of white space every place where there would be a page break.  This has to be a bug because no one would want this white space on a web page.
In addition here is the help text that I copied directly out of Crystal regarding these margins:
Note:    When you are exporting to a single file (that is, you have cleared the Separate HTML Pages check box) all blank space in headers and footers, as well as top and bottom page margins, is included. If you don't want to see blank spaces in your HTML file, suppress empty header and footer sections and set the top and bottom page margins to zero in the Page Setup dialog box.
    Am I missing something here????

  • Cannot set some "engine preferences" in BPM 5.7 studio

Several days ago, I found that some engine preferences were "grayed" and cannot be checked, like Deployment->"Remove previously published and deployed processes in next publish" and "Generate Default Views " . Also most of them under the engine->general.
This is not happened before and this is now happening for just one project .
For other projects, it is all ok .
They were still grayed when the engine stopped.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance

Check whether the ENGINE.XML file in the CONFIG folder of the project is READ-ONLY. If so then uncheck it. You should be able to modify the values now.

  • Page display resolution setting

Many or all CS5 apps would benefit from the same kind of Page Display preferences that Acrobat Pro provides. It allows you to set page display resolution at the pixels per inch setting that will display content at true actual size (100pct viewing). By that I mean an 8.5x11 page on screen is the same size as an 8.5x11 page in your hand. It may be that Acrobat's default "Use system setting" figure (81ppi on my display) is all that's needed to get reasonably close, but InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc., don't have this ability. And Acrobat can be setting to any ppi that gets the job done. Print designers, especially, need true actual size to have a better feel for the scale of the physical piece and design elements on it, notably including type.

That's a fair answer to a load of nonsense ...
    1. The original poster was not concerned about pixels, and in fact showed by his very feature request that he was acutely aware of the difference between pixels and real, actual, physical dimensions. The OP did not ask for, nor does he want, measurement in pixels -- in fact, he wants the exact opposite.
    2. There is no measurement unit called "pixel". A "pixel" is not a defined distance, and there are no online conversion tools to convert between picas or inches and pixels. If there are, they are a load of nonsense as well.
    3. Good news is that CS5 has, yeah!, "pixels" as measurement units. But ... since the pixel is not a really existing unit of measure, it's of no use at all and you might as well pretend (in your mind) what CS5 pretends on the screen: one pixel equals one point.

  • Display Preferences refuse to stay set.

Brand new 2010 8Core 2.4Ghz MacPro. ATI 5870 video card. Running 3 displays - 2-24" Dell UltraSharps and a 30" Apple Cinema Display.
Using 2 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Adapters in order to drive all 3 displays.
    Card ports =
    MiniDisplay #1 - Apple 30"
    MiniDisplay #2 - 24" Dell
    DVI Port - 24" Dell
The Dells have a max resolution of 1920x1200. I have them rotated to portrait (90°) via Display Preferences.
I HAD to set the Apple 30" in Mini Display port #1 so it would be seen as the primary monitor at all times. Simply dragging the menu bar in Displays > Arrange works for a while.. but read on....
System runs and operates fine overall. I set the Display Preferences, arrange the three monitors (24 - 30 -24) and set the rotation for the Dells. All works and is great while I'm sitting there.
I leave the system for 15 minutes or more and come back to it sleeping. When I hit the spacebar to wake, the Dell displays reset to either 1200x1600 resolution (stretching the picture), lose the 90° rotation, or both. If the Apple 30" isn't plugged into MiniDisplay Port #1, then whatever monitor IS plugged into that port becomes the primary. If I reset things, via Display Preferences, it's all great again until the system sleeps for more the 15 minutes again.
I've tried everything I can think of - zapping PRAM - reinstall the OS - trashing com.apple.windowserver.plist - locking com.apple.windowserver.plist (well setting permissions to read only, you can't lock that file).
Nothing I do will allow the monitors to retain their settings. Am I missing some trick somewhere?
Long time Mac User, previous MacPro with two nVidia cards didn't have this issue.
In addition.. not display related, but I'm finding disk access on the new MacPro horribly slow. Initial disk access takes 3-5 seconds every time. This is exceptionally abnormal for me. I'm not certain if it's an issue with the machine or the OS. This new system purchased last month is my first real exposure to OS10.6.4 on a regular basis. I did completely erase and install the OS when the system arrived as I always do.
    Any ideas?

Wasn't due to a bad machine.
I have had 2 machine swaps since my October purchase of a 2010 MacPro. First system had a hard freeze at ~80% load and Apple requested a swap. Second system shorted out after 44 days of use. Short was not in the power supply ro logic board, it was deeper. I requested a new machine at that point.
So I'm on my 3rd new MacPro since October.... display issues have been the same on all three systems. It's obviously a firmware/video driver issue.
Let's hope this third system actually lasts longer than 45 days. So far, I'm swapping machines due to bad hardware every month and a half.

  • Set zoom and page display on open

Thought I would be able to set zoom (90%) and page display (Continuous) in Acrobat Pro Properties/Initial View before distributing my LiveCycle form, but realize now I can't.
What scripting would I use in LCD ES2 9.0 document targetted for 8.0 or later to set that?
                                   Thanks!           ~Carol

That was very helpful - lots of good info there, all in one place. Thanks for sending!
Since I don't see anything specifically to set page display to Single-Continuous and Zoom to a specific percent (90%), I assume those options are not available?
Not the end of the world if they're not, just would be nice.
                   Thanks!             ~Carol

  • Why doesn't Page Display obey its setting in Preferences

Using Reader 9.2. I have Page Display setting in Preferences set to 'Single Page Continuous'. Yet when I open a pdf, the Page Display is set to 'Single Page' instead of 'Single Page Continuous'. Why?

    abdu wrote:
I want to display the page the way *I* like.
I guess there are two ways to look at that. Since they created it, maybe they want you to see it they way "they" like. That's the basic premise behind PDF. But yeah, it can be a bit irritating for those on the receiving end.
    abdu wrote:
As far anyone is concerned, the document setting could have been a default setting of the pdf creator tool and the document author is not even aware of this setting!
Probably not. The default setting is "default" which allows the viewer to control it with their preferences.
    abdu wrote:
So Adobe.. please fix this setting or add a checkbox to override the document setting.
I think a checkbox is a fine idea.

  • Adobe reader x Page Rendering Preferences not retained - ragged display

Preferences>Page Display>Rendering>Smooth Text setting defaults to None, so the the rendering of PDF files on a LCD screen is very ragged.
When I set the value to "For Laptop/LCD Screens" the rendering is spot on.
However, this setting is not remembered when I exit the reader, so next time I open a pdf document I have to reset the preference settings again.
Any ideas how to retain the settings, or is there a registry key I can set to do this?
Note: This is on a machine at work (Windows 7) so possibly could it be due to administative permissions which doesn't update the preference settings?

It is certainly possible that your SysAdmin has locked down your preferences.  Try some other setting and see if it sticks.
Also, that preference is set by default in a normal installation - so again, perhaps your SysAdmin has customized.

  • Adobe PDF Portfolio - Preview Mode Displaying Incorrect Pages

I have created a PDF portfolio using the “Grid” template in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. The Portfolio contains three pdf files. I am getting the following problem when I open the pdf Portfolio in Adobe Reader X and XI and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
    Open the PDF portfolio
    Click on pdf3
Preview mode displays the correct document and pages.
    Close the preview of pdf3
    Click on pdf2
Preview mode displays pages from pdf3,not pdf2 (see screenshot below).
    Some observations:
If pdf1 has two pages, and pdf2 has ten pages, pdf2’s preview contains pdf 1 (pages 1-2)  and then pdf2 (pages 3-10).
If I continue to open pdfs the preview contains pages from all the pdfs I have opened in the portfolio (this depends on how many pages the document I am currently previewing has). It is not just caching the last pdf opened.
Preview mode always displays the correct NUMBER of pages (i.e., if there are ten pages in a pdf, there will be ten pages in the preview. They will just be the wrong pages).
Turning off local page cache (preferences > page display) does not fix the problem.
Adobe Reader is up-to-date and Flash is up-to-date. I have replicated the problem on different computers, and in Adobe Reader X and XI, and Pro XI. I have also created muliple pdf portfolios from scratch to confirm the pdf portfolio itself wasn't corrupt.
Does anyone have an idea what is happening? Users are getting very confused when their preview shows them a completely different document.
    Thanks for any help

We have the same problem. Everything's up to date. Adobe needs to address this issue!! The portfolio feature is a great idea, but this glitch basically ruins it. If you come by this page with the same problem, make sure you leave a reply. Maybe Adobe will actually pay attention if there are enough complaints.

  • Save As Page displays below Adobe Reader X in Modal window when selecting SAVE

Reports are being viewed in the explorer using Adobe Reader this opens in a Modal window which is a requirement. When selecting the 'Save a Copy'  button from any location on the page using the floating toolbar or standard toolbar the Save As page is being opened under the Model window and the focus remains on the main page so the save location or any button on the page cannot be used.
There is a work around selecting any option that launched a popup screen from the reader such as Document Properties and then the page is closed selecting Save a copy will open the page on the top,
This only seems to be a issue when using IE9 when running the same application and Adobe reader version in IE8 no issue is seen. Other popup screen such as Print have no issue and as mentioned once one of these screens are launched the save as displays on top.
    Current version of
    Adobe Reader 10.1.1,
    IE9 9.0.8112.16421
    Windows 7 64bit.
Using Adobe Reader 9 seems to have similar issues and the page needs to be closed via the task manager.
We require the webpage to display in a Modal window is there any suggestions on how to ensure the Save As Page is displayed on the top in focus.

Reader cannot rotates pages in a document, but it can rotate the view. This is not something that can be saved. Adobe Acrobat can rotate pages and save the document, but not Reader.
