Adobe Postscript Type 1 fonts and Windows 7

I have a disk with Adobe Postscript Type 1 fonts ("Adobe Type Basics" that I purchased in 2001). The disk includes an install program that does not work on my current computer (Windows 7, 64). Can I get those fonts installed on my current computer, and if so, how do I do it. Step by step, please. Many thanks.

Although we at Adobe certainly do recommend use of OpenType font technology going forward and especially for new publishing projects for any number of very good reasons, Adobe does continue to fully support Type 1 fonts (FWIW, TrueType and OpenType fonts are every bit as much PostScript fonts as Type 1 or Type 3 fonts are) in all our applications as well as in our Adobe PostScript and Adobe PDF Print Engine products and has committed to do so for the indefinite future.
In fact, Adobe still does license and ship Type 1 fonts in fairly high quantities. Every printer sold with Adobe PostScript 3 by Adobe's OEM partners such as Xerox, Ricoh, Canon, Océ, EFI, etc. is accompanied with host software that includes the Windows and Macintosh host versions of all the Type 1 fonts that are also printer resident.
Actually, the problem that the OP of this thread was experiencing is that apparently, the Adobe Type Basics was built without the .pfm files that normally were shipped with all Adobe type packages for Windows. When ATM was required for installation of those fonts, since ATM had the capability of building .pfm files on-the-fly, this omission wasn't noticed at the time by most users (even I wasn't aware of it until today). Otherwise, there was nothing wrong with those fonts and there was nothing about them that was “showing their age.”
Unfortunately, the Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition is not a superset of the fonts in the original Adobe Type Basics product. Many of the font families of the original product were replaced by totally different font families. Updating to the OpenType-based product would not have solved the OP's problem without possibly needing to license a whole bunch of additional font families individually, possibly costing more than the $99 for the Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition itself. For existing content (including templates and artwork), it is not simple to move from Type 1 to OpenType without going through existing content and globally changing all font references. The OpenType versions of Adobe's font do not have the same names as the Type 1 versions - this was not an oversight, but done for good reason since there are differences between the products in encoding and metrics that could in some cases cause layout issues.

  • Using Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts on Lion/MacBook Pro

I recently upgraded from a 5-year-old MacBook using Snow Leopard to a MacBook Pro using Lion. I also upgraded from MS Office 2004 to MS Office 2011.
On the old MacBook, as on my even-older Cube using OS 9.2 and Office 2001, I used several old Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts with no problem. Foremost among them were Adobe Garamond and Adobe Jenson. I've dragged the six Garamond fonts, plus its font suitcase to the Fonts folder in the Library folder. Upon seeing some fleeting font installation messages, I thought all was well.
But no luck. The fonts don't appear as options on old or new documents. Any suggestions or solutions?

  • Where do I find Adobe Postscript type 1 font for Mac

I need Adobe Postscript type 1 fonts for a journal figure. Am using a MacBook Pro OS X10.6.8. Searches of multiple internet sites including those that state they have Postscript type 1 to download has not indentified available software.

What would you do with legacy Type 1 fonts that you couldn't do with OpenType/ TrueType fonts? As far as any programs are concerned, it makes no difference whatsoever for font rendering... You really need to explian better what you are trying to achieve rather than chasing phantoms on the Internet...

  • Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Windows 7 Problem

How do I get Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Windows 7 compatible so I can access my attachments to e-mails sent to me?

I was successful in installing AA5 in Win7 Starter as a test. It works except that I changed the printer port to file (AcroTray or the Distiller Assistant of AA5 does not work in Win7). You can open the files that are created in Distiller to create PDFs. You may be able to use watched folders to automate the process to some degree.
I suspect that your question is more of having problems reading PDF files in AA5. That is a different issue. It is not a Win7 compatibility issue, but one of needing a newer PDF viewer. I have AA5 on one XP machine that I use Reader X on for seeing the newer files. I do have to deal with some conflicts between AA5 and ARX, but I can deal with that (many folks lose there minds on that).
There is one other option that might be a major problem. Many folks are getting Win7 on 64-bit machines. In that case, you will have to be sure AA5 runs in 32-bit compatibility.
At least that should give you some ideas of what might work. If a 64-bit machine, you may definitely have a problem -- I never tested that combination.

  • Illustrator CS3 - type/font and right click/font quit working??!!

All of a sudden: if I type a word out and then go to "type/font".... none of the installed font selections will show.....also will not show if the text is selected and I "right-click" my mouse.
I can change fonts if I use the interactive menu at the top of the screen.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks.

Well, I trashed the .ai prefs...... and restarted the program.... and the same thing occurs. I swear, I've never seen such an unstable program in my life.
Would appreciate any suggestions regarding this issue.... even if it's one of Adobe's 10 key combination workarounds.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe acrobat pro 9 and windows 8 issues

Looking for help regarding adobe acrobat 9 and windows 8.  I am unable to scan will  not allow me to select devise (HP officejet pro 8500 wireless).  Also unable to scan from HP device to PDF using HP solution center.  Printing fine from other applications. Thank you.

This means that your scanner software or driver is not correctly installed.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Windows Vista

The last version of Adobe I used to use is version 5. Of
course that is outdated, and it would appear that the files I
created with that version are not compatible with the Adobe Reader
    9. So I downloaded the trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and
tried to install it. The computer I am trying to install it on is
new and the OS running is Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit I
believe). When it says it is installing, after it reaches
99.blah-blah % it keeps asking me about a scanner being connected.
What the heck is that all about? It's weird. I connect my scanner
and it scans and I print a document to a Microsoft OneNote file,
after which when I close the scanner window the program is not
installed at all. I check my program list from my start menu to see
if it is there; and nothing. This thing is, why the heck doesn't it
just install the full trial program like any other normal
installation? I just want to be able to send word, excel, etc.
documents using the acrobat distiller like I used to and create pdf
documents. This is very frustrating. If this is some kind of
strange compatibility issue with Vista, than I am really starting
to regret buying a system with Vista on it more and more. Can
anyone tell me what is going on here. What I may be doing wrong?
    Anything. Please help. Thank you.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 pro and windows 7

I have Adobe acrobat 9 pro and installed it on my Dell windows 7 desktop.  When I go to print to Adobe the pictures come up in the print screen with a green hue or tint to them. To view the pictures in the folder they are fine. To actually print the pics to the printer they print fine, but attempting to convert the pictures to a pdf file, they show and convert with this green hue or tint. Any ideas as to why?  I had this program installed on my XP windows prior to this with no problems.  Very frustrated.   Any thoughts.

You are allowed to use one license on two machines. Deactivate the XP version of Acrobat. Wipe the machine and install Windows 7, then re-install.

  • Custom installed fonts and Windows 7

    Hi,
I've looked everywhere and must not be using the right terms, so I apologize if there's an answer to this (kind of hoping there is a resolution).
I upgraded to 64bit Windows 7 within the last month or so, and purchased an upgrade to Adobe Design Suite CS5.  Love the suite, but one issue I'm having is using a custom font family we have for our corporate font.  It shows in the list, but when selecting, it goes back to the previous font selected.
From what I know, this font group is installed via Group Policy, so I'm trying to find out if it's a permissions thing with Windows 7, or something else.  Has anyone else experienced this?
    Regards,
    Jason

  • I have adobe acrobat 6.0 and windows 7.0 professional...they don't work together

Is there anything i can do to make these work together?

    Hi ,
As Acrobat 6 is a pretty older version and it will surely not work with windows 7 .
There is no possible way to make them run together .Either you need upgrade your Acrobat version that is compatible with windows 7 or downgrade your OS if you want to stick to Acrobat ^ .
However  I would recommend you to upgrade to the latest Acrobat DC ,that is the latest version Adobe has launched and is compatible with the OS you use.
Also ,it is loaded with new features that will simplify your work and make it convenient .
Following are the links to download Acrobat DC .
If you want the subscription refer this - Download Acrobat DC (Continuous) | Enterprise or VIP
And if you want the perpetual version -Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X

  • Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and Windows 7 x64 incompatible

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 64bit and cannot run my Adobe Photoshop 5.0 on it. I keep getting an error message saying that it is not compatable with Windows 7. Any solutions please ?. I like this version of Adobe and am very familar with it and dont want to upgrade.

If your version of windows 7 doesn't support the Virtual XP mode, you can install your old operating system on windows 7 using something like Vmware Player.
    NT5 (win2000p) and ps 5.5
    unity mode
Windows NT 4 and photoshop 4 on windows 7
