  • Pre 7 crashes when opening v2 project file

    Hi,
I upgraded to v7 from v2 a few months ago.  For the most part things have been going fine, but when I recently tried opening a project file I had worked on in v2 I got the following error:
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Not too helpful mind you.  I still had v2 installed, so I tried opening it in there and it worked.  So that kind of ruled out a corrupt file.  I searched forums and contacted support, and not much help there.  I tried deleting parts of the timeline and re-saving in v2 but I still couldn't open in v7.  I finally removed the DVD menus, and surprise it opened in v7.  I investigated further, and it appears that since v3 DVD menus are named with _pal_ whereas in v2 there were ntsc and pal versions of each menu (I've been using ntsc).  Also, I opened up the .prel project in notepad, and came across the DVDLayoutTree node and its version attribute is "3" for v2 file and "4" for v7 file.  I modified the attribute to "4", and was able to open the project in v7 however it did not show any DVD menus.  I suspect I also should have renamed the _ntsc_ file references to _pal_.  In any event the project did load, and it's a simple matter to reset the DVD menus.  This hacking should probably be a last resort as its probably safer to remove the DVD menus in the older Pre and then open it in Pre v7.  Anyway, just a tip for others if they run into this problem.  Much easier than re-installing Pre7 or junking the project file and starting from scratch.
    Take care
    Marc

Hi, thanks for the response.  The project was actually finished in v2, but I wanted to open it in v7 as a reference.  I don't want (and shouldn't) have to keep all previous versions of the software installed on my system so that I may be able to open project files. Most software programs I work with are backwards compatible or provide some means of upgrading files to newer format.  Can you imagine how things would be if Word Doc format became unusable with each MS Word release?  :-)
In this particular case, Pre7 shouldn't be crashing like it is.  Ideally, it should recognize a previous version project file and either update it automatically or drop features no longer supported (with some message to the user or log file generated).  The error message is ambiguous at best and pretty useless as it didn't really help in identifying the root cause of the problem.  This is likely the result of some uncaught exception when the program parses the .prel project file and finds an element attribute it doesn't expect (version "3" instead of "4").

  • Premiere Pro 5.5 crashes when opening any project file containg an active sequence.

When I create a new project the program continues to run until I select a sequence by double clicking on it. Then the program crashes.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.30GHz 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M graphics card. Once the problem occured I updated my driver version yet the problem still remains.
I have selveral projects due very soon soI appreciate any help you can give me! Even if it just a point in the right direction.

    Ann, THANKS for replying!
If I open a brand new project, which I could do before, and then IMPORT a previous project, it works and I can edit and export the project.  However, it did crash upon trying to save it and I still can not just open a previously created project.  When I do I get an error message that Says: "Premiere has encountered an error and needs to close down.  We will attempt to save your project."
Do you or anyone else have any ideas?

  • FCP crashes when opening particular project file

I have one particular FCP project file that crashes each time I try to open it. I have read other threads and tried to follow their suggestions, but to no avail. I have tried opening it on different computers (both PowerPC and Intel), disconnecting hard drives (to keep media offline), creating a new user, etc. None of it works. The file will not even get to the "Preparing Video" stage before the spinning beach ball appears and FCP crashes. Thanks for your help! I have included the error message below:

Hi, thanks for the response.  The project was actually finished in v2, but I wanted to open it in v7 as a reference.  I don't want (and shouldn't) have to keep all previous versions of the software installed on my system so that I may be able to open project files. • Adobe Reader 9.x crashes when opening some pdf files that work fine with Adobe Reader 8.x

Adobe Reader 9 crashes when opening approximately 10% to 20% of the pdfs in my collection. The remaining 80% to 90% work without problems. The pdfs are launched by double-clicking the pdf file from Windows Explorer. The crashes occur with both v9.0 and v9.1. The pdfs that crash in v9.x work fine in older versions of Adobe Reader, such as v8.1.3. Furthermore, this behavior also occurs on all 3 virtual machine hosted on the same physical machine, with default Adobe Reader settings, for both v9.0 and v9.1. The virtual machines have little running in memory except standard Windows executables - i.e. they are fairly pristine. The operating systems for the virtual machines are XP SP3, XP SP2, and Windows Server 2003.
Error message info in all cases:
    app=acrord32.exe
    app version=9.1.0.163
    module=jp2klib.dll
    module version=2.0.0.2579
    offset=0003277d
Operating system for real computer: XP SP3
CPU: 1333 MHz Athlon single core
    RAM: 1 GB
To sum up, this problem happens on both a real computer running XP SP3, and also on all 3 virtual machines hosted on the same physical computer. I tried changing the Reader setting to not use hardware rendering, to no avail. I also tried various Data Execution Prevention settings in Windows, to no avail. All operating systems, the real and virtual ones, do not have problems with other programs that I use. I also tried a second machine with Adobe Reader v9.1 and the same exact problem pdfs, and had no issues. Thus, the problem happens on only one of the computers, but on the real and 3 virtual operating systems on that machine. There were no errors reported during any of the Reader installations. The virtual machines had no prior versions of Reader prior to Reader installation.

    I did further testing of 10 single page pdf files which I created from a single book. All 5 pdf files with images crashed in Reader v9.1. 0 of the 5 pdf files without images crashed in Reader v9.1. Reader v8.1.4 crashes on none of the 10 pdfs. Note that the crash always occurs in jp2klib.dll, which according to the file property description is 'JPEG2000 Core Library', which deals with images. So it seems the issue is in Adobe's jp2klib.dll, in combination with the hardware/software that I have. I used Microsoft's DirectX Diagnostic Tool to test DirectX, including visual tests of DirectDraw and Direct3D - everything worked as expected with no issues detected.<br /><br />Some information about my hardware:<br />Display drivers=Nvidia v84.21<br />Video card=GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB RAM<br />CPU=AMD Athlon (single core)<br />System RAM=1024 MB in 3 DIMMs<br /><br />Further information about my hardware: (from the program System Information for Windows)<br /><br />Motherboard:<br />Manufacturer=ASUSTeK Computer INC.<br />Model=<A7V133><br />Version=REV 1.xx<br />Chipset Vendor=VIA Technologies Inc<br />Chipset Model=VT8363/5 KT133/KM133 System Controller<br />South Bridge=82C686B PCI to ISA Bridge<br />CPU=AMD Athlon<br />Cpu Socket=Slot A / Socket A [SOCKET A]<br />System Slots=5 PCI, 1 AGP<br />OnBoard devices=<unknown> (Disabled) Promise PDC20265<br />     <br />Memory Summary:<br />Location=System board or motherboard<br />Maximum Capacity=1536 MBytes<br />Memory Slots=3<br />Error Correction=None<br />Use=System memory<br /><br />CPU Info:<br />Number of CPU(s)=One Physical Processor / One Core / One Logical Processor<br />Vendor=AuthenticAMD<br />CPU Full Name=AMD Athlon<br />CPU Name=AMD Athlon(tm) Processor<br />CPU Code Name=Thunderbird<br />Technology=0.18µ<br />Platform Name=Slot A / Socket A<br />Type=Original OEM processor<br />FSB Mode=DDR<br />Type ID=0<br />CPU Clock=1323.68<br />L2 Cache Speed=1323.68 MHz<br />L2 Cache Speed=Full<br />CPU Family / Model / Stepping=6 / 4 / 4<br />L1 I-Cache=64 KB<br />L1 D-Cache=64 KB<br />L2 Cache=256 KB<br />RDMSR=00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000<br />MMX=Yes<br />MMX+=Yes<br />SSE=No<br />SSE2=No<br />SSE3=No<br />SSE4A=No<br />3DNow!=Yes<br />3DNow!+=Yes<br />DualCore=No<br />HyperThreading=No<br />AMD64=No<br />NX=No<br />VT=No<br />PowerNow!=No<br />LongHaul=No<br />LongRun=No<br />Architecture=x86<br /><br />Video:<br />AdapterCompatibility=NVIDIA<br />AdapterDACType=Integrated RAMDAC<br />AdapterRAM=128 MBytes<br />Availability=3<br />Caption=NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200<br />ConfigManagerErrorCode=0<br />ConfigManagerUserConfig=false<br />CurrentBitsPerPixel=32<br />CurrentHorizontalResolution=1280<br />CurrentNumberOfColors=4294967296<br />CurrentNumberOfColumns=0<br />CurrentNumberOfRows=0<br />CurrentRefreshRate=60<br />CurrentScanMode=4<br />CurrentVerticalResolution=1024<br />Description=NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200<br />DeviceID=VideoController1<br />DeviceSpecificPens=-1<br />DriverDate=20060309212900.000000-000<br />DriverVersion=6.14.10.8421<br />InfFilename=oem6.inf<br />InfSection=nv4_NV3x<br />InstalledDisplayDrivers=nv4_disp.dll<br />MaxRefreshRate=75<br />MinRefreshRate=60<br />Monochrome=false<br />Name=NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200<br />NumberOfColorPlanes=1<br />PNPDeviceID=PCI\VEN_10DEDEV_0322SUBSYS_91101462REV_A1\49AEDED500008<br />Status=OK<br />VideoArchitecture=5<br />VideoMemoryType=2<br />VideoModeDescription=1280 x 1024 x 4294967296 colors<br />VideoProcessor=GeForce FX 5200<br />BitsPerPel=32<br />DeviceName=NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200<br />DisplayFlags=0<br />DisplayFrequency=60<br />LogPixels=96<br />PelsHeight=1024<br />PelsWidth=1280<br />SettingID=NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200<br />SpecificationVersion=1025<br />BitsPerPixel=32<br />ColorPlanes=1<br />DeviceEntriesInAColorTable=-1<br />HorizontalResolution=1280<br />RefreshRate=60<br />VerticalResolution=1024<br />VideoMode=1280 by 1024 pixels, True Color, 60 Hertz<br />Video Bios Version=Version 4.34.20.22.00 <br />Video Bios Date=04/28/03<br />Name=GeForce FX 5200<br />Chip Type=GeForce FX 5200<br />DAC Type=Integrated RAMDAC<br />Memory=128 MBytes<br /><br />BIOS:<br />BIOS Version=ASUS   - 30303031, Award Medallion BIOS v6.0, Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v1.0A, Award Modular BIOS v6.0<br />BIOS Date=04/23/02<br />BIOS Web Page=http://www.award.com<br />BIOS Vendor=Award Software, Inc.<br />Version=ASUS A7V-133 ACPI BIOS Revision 1009<br />Release=04/23/2002<br />BIOS Size=256 KB<br /><br />Memory:<br />Location=System board or motherboard<br />Maximum Capacity=1536 MBytes<br />Memory Slots=3<br />Error Correction=None<br />Use=System memory<br />Maximum Memory Module Size=1024 MBytes<br />Device Set=DIMM 1<br />Device Locator=DIMM 1<br />Capacity=256 MBytes<br />Memory Type=Synchronous DRAM<br />Data Width=64 bits<br />Form Factor=DIMM<br />Total Width=72 bits<br />Device Locator=DIMM 2<br />Capacity=256 MBytes<br />Memory Type=Synchronous DRAM<br />Data Width=64 bits<br />Form Factor=DIMM<br />Total Width=72 bits<br />Device Locator=DIMM 3<br />Capacity=512 MBytes<br />Memory Type=Synchronous DRAM<br />Data Width=64 bits<br />Form Factor=DIMM<br />Total Width=72 bits

  • Premiere Pro & Premiere Elements Crash When Open Together?

Anyone have a problem with Premiere Pro & Premiere Elements crashing when open together?
I have PE10 and am doing a trial of Premiere Pro CS6.
Both crash fairly quickly when open together.
    i7 2600K
    Windows 7 64 Bit
    16GB RAM
    GTX 470
    Corsair AT 850 Watt PSU
    Thanks!

The first thiing that comes to my mind is a resources issue. As you have a stout computer, with more than adequate RAM, unless something is failing (like a stick of RAM), or perhaps the GPU, I would not expect to see what you observe. On a much less powerful machine, I have no problem running PrPro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator, and a word processor, all at the same time.
I would look into this ARTICLE, which starts with some general tips on setting up one's computer for running PrE, and then goes into system and OS tune-up tips (this is probably where I would start, if the intitial checklist looks OK), and then goes into troubleshooting. I would definitely look here, and especially using Event Viewer to try and track down what is happening, when the crashes occur, and also the one on tools to test RAM, GPU's, etc.).
    Good luck,
    Hunt

If I open a brand new project, which I could do before, and then IMPORT a previous project, it works and I can edit and export the project.  However, it did crash upon trying to save it and I still can not just open a previously created project.  When I do I get an error message that Says: "Premiere has encountered an error and needs to close down.  We will attempt to save your project."
Do you or anyone else have any ideas?

  • Encore CS4 crashes when opening transcoded project

I have made previous dvds/blu-rays with these steps before, but I'm running into problems now, here is what I've done:
    1. Create new encore blu-ray project.
    2. Import everything and setup project.
    3. Burn project to dvd image.
    4. Burn project to blu-ray image.
The problem I'm having for my current project is after burning the dvd image, I decided to restart my computer before I made the blu-ray image, and now I can't open the project file.  It says something like "getting transcoding settings", and I can see all the assets show up in the asset list, but then it crashes.
I was not aware of this before, but apparently encore uses C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Adobe\Common\Media Cache\ to hold temporary files.  I changed this location under the media encoder properties to use my D: drive.
I noticed that for every time I tried to load the project again, it would create a new set of temporary files in this folder (which took up a lot of space).  I use to think all the temporary files for the encore project were located in a folder within the directory of the encore project file, but I guess not.
Does anyone know anything I can try to get the encore project file to open????

Probably this is due to something cleared out of my suggestions.
Temp files are the one I meant in the previous thread.
When I do some "folishness" I usually clear this files and, after the first time it has to rebuild, every re-opening of the project takes just a min. max.
The names of the folders sound like a DVD project and not a BR one as you've said.
Have you right clicked over the files and choosing the option "change asset" (eighth line), connect the file to the missed one?
Anyway, no worries, I think that a good brand new project will fix everything.
Remember do not change Archive folder during a project, do it before.
    Ciao

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes in opening a project file

I am using Premiere Pro CC since 1.5 years now. No big problems so far but now suddenly a strange one in opening a project file.
Several other project files open up as usual, but the last one I've been working on, suddenly crashes in the middle of loading the media files.  An error message like this appears:
"Premiere Pro has encountered an error. [c:\ppro772\releases\2013.10\shared\adobe\mediacore\mediafoundation\api\inc\ " (and the rest of the path I'm not able to see, it's cut.)
I have installed the latest version of the graphics driver today. I have installed Premiere Pro 2014 some time ago but didn't really use it yet. I already tried to open the project in 2014 with no success.
Now I just found out that I can open the project from the one-before-the-last autosave file! Thereafter I saved the project with a different name, but trying to re-open it resulted again in the same error!!
Any idea what the problem could be and what might help?

    BUt that's a different error.
I am getting this one aswell.
    [c:\ppro772\releases\2013.10\shared\adobe\mediacore\mediafoundation\api\inc
    Please fix it.
I really want my Premiere Pro to work :\

  • CS 5.5.2 Crashes when opening any  project

I got it working by checking "Run as Administrator".

  • LV2012 crashes when opening LV2010 project containing OOP and dynamic FPGA references

I have a project that was written under LV2010 and has no problems that I am aware of. This project contains OOP and dynamic FPGA references. I am trying to upgrade this project to LV2012. When opening this project under LV2012 (or any subVI containing OOP) I get an error message, as shown in the attached screenshot. Has anyone else observed this problem? I haven't found any relevant postings on this forum yet.
My project is quite large, with many accessors.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Thank you for your response, but the Discussion Forums link that you provided refers to a problem that occurs when exiting a running executable. My problem is different. I am simply opening up a LV2010 project using LV2012. No running of my program is involved.
Anyway, after several days of work, I narrowed down the cause of the LabVIEW crash. My code contained a Disable structure, and within that Disable structure there was a subVI that had an unwired object terminal (set to dynamic dispatch). Deleting the subVI in the Disable structure eliminated the LabVIEW crashing. Weird behavior.

  • FCP 5 quits when opening a project file

    Hello...hope someone can help.
I have a project file that gets past all the plugins (I don't have any extras) and then quits when it starts loading. Other project files load fine.
I trashed my preferences, restarted in safe boot and repaired permissions through the Disk Utility program. I moved my media to another folder...and it still does it for this one project file.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks..

try creating a new user on your computer. Open the project file under that new user. If it won't open, you have a corrupted project file. I hope you have a back-up!
