Adobe Premiere produces large files, why?

Hello!
I am having a Little Trouble with Adobe Premiere. I am quite new to the program.
I have a few Video Clips encoded as H.264 which I want to edit. Each of these Clips weighs about 50 - 200 mb. After editing them together in a way I want with Adobe Premiere the resulting HD Video has about 3.1 gb which is a joke for a H.264 Video which consists of a lot of static Backgrounds which are easy to encode. I encoded the resulting Video again with HandBrake from H.264 to H.264 which reduced the file size to just about 300 mb without a drop in Quality. Is Adobe's implementation of H.264 just that inefficient, or do I have to make some tweaks to the Default Profile to get good results?

I did not have access to my computer the week adobe premiere pro's trial ran out, and I know that before it ran out I still had all my projects. However, when I came back they were gone. I did not delete any of the projects, or folders they were in. Is it possible that because I moved them out of the Adobe folder that they have been moved?
Thanks for the reply.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 11 file saving

I have installed Adobe Premiere Elements 11 onto my C drive.
When I edit video files I know they are large so that is why I save them to my  D drive that is very large.
Even though I save my video files and finished files to my D drive Files are still being saved as well to my C drive. IT IS EATING UP ALL MY SPACE ON MY C DRIVE AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO

    Major Paul,
    Welcome to the forum.
I agree with Steve 100%. Much of what you are likely seeing on your C:\ are the Scratch Disks for Premiere, which are "working files." One has the option of where to locate those, in Edit>Preferences, and if you take Steve's advice of creating your Projects on your D:\ to begin with, then I would adjust the destination of all of the Scratch Disks to "Same as Project," and they will then reside on D:\, below the Project's folder in the hierarchy.
Also, there is a recent thread on Scratch Disks (though the discussion does include Photoshop's Scratch Disks, which are different) here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1156141?tstart=0
As Steve also suggests, keeping one's C:\ as clean, as is possible is a very good thing, and I could not agree more.
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 7 files encountering major errors

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 7 and every time I try to edit certain parts of my movie I get major errors. Here's what I've done to try to fix the problem:
gone through some of the troubleshooting tips from adobe.com
    uninstalled and reinstalled PE7
did a system restore to several days ago when it was working fine
The movie I am editing is over an hour long, and has a variety of movie clips, pictures, narration, and music. When I press play it works pretty good, but when I want to move the narration around or "clear" a certain clip, it goes crazy!! Here's a few of the error boxes I've seen:
    Premiere Elements Debug Event
    [..\..\Src\Sequence\TrackItemTrack.cpp-480]
    and also this one
    [..\..\Src\VideoSegment.cpp-55]
When those come up I can only click "continue" and then it pops up again and again until finally it says that there was an error, it must close down, and it will try to save the project.
This has also come up before the file opens:
Found default catalog. Trying to open the default catalog.
And, when I did the system restore this came up when I opened PE7:
The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support.
I have a deadline to meet with this movie, but I can't even edit it closes down on me so much! I have tried opening other PE7 movie files and edit them and they seemed to work fine from the little I did. Could it be that the file itself has something wrong with it? I have had minor problems with PE7 before but nothing as bad as this! I have my movie file saved on the computer hard drive, and two separate external hard drives. I have tried opening the file from all three places but they are all the same.
I am not a computer whiz, but If you need any more info, let me know, and please respond ASAP!!
    Thanks!

Well, it's not working again. Here's what happened:
I opened that other file this morning, like I told you. I edited for a few hours, then I added a picture, then tried moving some clips that were grouped together, but instead of moving them it did something else (not sure what) and then it said there was an error and it had to close down (I was able to delete the picture off the timeline, just in case that was causing the problem, which I don't think it was). I was glad to have gotten so much editing in, but really disappointed it wasn't fixed completely like I'd hoped. So I opened PE7 again and it said I needed to save the file as another name. So I did that and kept editing for another few hours, with no major problems. Then, when I was moving something around again there was an error message and it closed down. At this point I was thinking "This isn't good, but hopefully it will open again and work like last time." But no, this time, the file wouldn't even OPEN!! This is the worst it's been. Those same error messages come up (PE Debug Event) and a new one too:
Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error
    Program: ...\AdobePremiereElements7.0\AdobePremiereElements.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I've been having a few minor problems with Windows Vista as well, such as the scroll bar on the Internet going up and down like crazy for several seconds, and also a runtime error (similar to the one above) when I open a folder under my computer. Could it be I have a virus? I have Vipre antivirus installed on my computer so hopefully that is taking care of anything like that.
I can open a copy of the movie file I made earlier today (but I'm not sure yet if I can edit with it or not - I don't want to make a bunch of changes and lose my work!), but not the latest file I worked on that had the last problems. Here are my project presets:
(this forum won't let me copy and paste!)
    General
    Editing Mode: DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97 frames/second
    Video:
    Frame size 720 horiz. 480 vert. 16:9
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2)
    Fields: Lower Field First
Display format: 30 fps Drop-Frame Timecode
    Audio:
    Sample rate: 48000Hz
    Display format: audio samples
    Capture format: DV capture
    Video Rendering
    Maximum bit depth (not checked)
    Previews:
    File Format: DV NTSC
    Compressor: DV NTSC
    Color Depth: millions of colors
    Optimize stills (checked)
The narration is a .wav file,
    the pictures are .jpg
the videos are all .avi (some were conformed from .MTS to.avi with PE7 under SHARE)
By "assets, stills, video etc. on the timeline" do you mean I should tell you everything I have on the timeline in order? Or did you mean something else? I was a little confused by that (I'm a visual person and so new to this!).
Thanks so much for your help!!

  • How to produce large Files (100meters and more)?

We are currently working on an architecutre project for which we have to make printed curtains/screens. The maximum of one Curtain
is about 180 meters (600ft). Over the 180 meters we have a pattern, which makes it not so easy to split files into pieces (color gradients, a.m.m.)
Our printing company suggested us to produce everything in a 1:10 scale (1 meter is 10 centimeters) and in 600dpi and they will scale it up with
their rip unit and print it than in 1:1. Final print resolution is therefore 60dpi.
As a start we are doing a 25 meters x 2,5 meters file - which is already super hard on the computer. (all new macs with 16gb ram and adobe creative cloud)
Is there any way of working like with videos - online and offline files? So that we work on a smaller scale and then repeat all the steps on the larger images.
We want to get our workflow optimized as we have to produce 3000 meters of image.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Georg Kettele

First thing that comes to mind is to ask:  Do you really need that high a resolution?  Are people really going to be looking at actual print detail from just a few meters away on a project that's nearly 200 meters wide?  In other words, are you actually creating fine image detail that matters at the 60 ppi scale?
The second thing that occurs to me is that  a typical computer with just 16GB of RAM doesn't seem a good fit for working on gargantuan images.  You've avoided doing the math that matters for the readers here, so I'll do it:
    60 pixels/inch * 39.37 inches/meter * 180 meters == 425196 pixels width
Assuming your full length print will also be 2.5 meters:
    60 pixels/inch * 39.37 inches/meter * 2.5 meters == 5906 pixels height
So your proposed image at this scale will be 425195 x 5906 pixels == 2.5 gigapixels.  Assuming you're using 8 bits/channel mode RGB, that's 7.5 gigabytes to store the image exactly once in RAM.
Keeping in mind you'll need to actually WORK on this image in Photoshop, you'll need at least 10x that RAM (for History states, room to run various tools, etc.) and a LOT of super fast disk storage to be able to swap data to the scratch file.  Numbers like 96 GB of RAM and several TB of SSD array storage space come to mind to even begin to think about working on such a huge image.
Any image that takes 7.5 gigabytes in RAM is going to be slow to work on no matter what computer you have today.  And if you're hoping to work on an even taller image than 5906 pixels, then you start to get into the realm of computers that haven't been invented yet.
Third thing I'm thinking of is that you may have to divide it into smaller chunks and deal with manually aligning things you want to match up.
You could start working at a MUCH smaller scale, lay the groundwork for the layout using things (e.g., paths/shapes) that scale up nicely, then divide the image up for the finish work.

  • Generate PDF from App. Srv. Produces Larger File than from Reports Builder

    Good Day,
I have a the below issue , and need your help please.
When generating a PDF report from the application server, the PDF size is large (200 MB) while
same report is generated from the builder with smaller size 10MB.
    - Report Builder 9.0.2.0.3
    - The report contain only TEXT no Image , and contain arround 4000 pages ...
The steps done from Application server in command line :
    - First I tested with several values for the parameter OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT : file size stays the same or increases.
    - Second I tested with parameter PDFCOMP (for PDF compression) with varying values from 0 to 9 : file size stays the same.
    Kindly help ...

    From report builder :
I open only the .rdf and generate the output to a PDF file.
The number of page is from the PDf generated from Report builder , for the other one I Cant open it with PDF reader...

  • Importing an Adobe Premiere Pro CC file into Final Cut 7

I am a student working on a video project and I want to import a Premiere Pro file into Final Cut 7. Does anyone know how to do that? I use Premiere Pro at home, but my school uses Final Cut 7. I just want to finish my project at home and then get it into Final Cut 7 at school. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

You might be able to do this by exporting XML from PPro and then importing that into FCut
Otherwise, you should ask Final Cut questions in an Apple forum

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • D7000 files not working in Adobe Premiere pro CS6

I recently took a lot of video on my D7000 DSLR. All of my video I shot though when I import them into Adobe Premiere "breaks" the file plays perfectly on the computer strait from the file but the miniute I try to import them into Premiere the files show either black screens or fragments of other screens in the playback windows as if the files were corrupted. I know that they are not. I need to know what I am doing wrong, if I am, since I am brand new to the program, and how to fix it. I have tried the origional .MOV file which I have reserched says works native with CS6. I also tried converting the file to .mpg. Both ways the files act the same. I have the settings for the project for DSLR at the proper resolution and frame rate also. I can hear the correct audio with the clip but simply the window is corrupted.
I am using 15" Macbook Pro Retina base model.
    Thanks for any help.

If you have the latest update for Premiere it contains updates for HiDPI display, which improves appearance on computers that use Retina Display, such as MacBook Pro computers

adobe premiere is writing files to my hard drive when capturing, but I cannot find the file when I follow the directory path. Need to delete b/c my HD has less than 1 GB left! Any advice?

    Hi Earthhero,
    Thanks for contacting adobe forums,
It seems like when you did the system restore the OS has removed the trace of the Premiere Pro CC.
This is common when we run system restore ( or Time Machine on MAC) ,
We can give a try to get it back.
    Try to rename a folder
    1. Quit the Creative Cloud App first.
    2. Goto the folder C:\Programe Files (x86)\Common\Adobe\caps
    3. Just rename this folder to caps.old
    4. login to Creative cloud app again
you will see an option to install the app.
if it works please update us
