Adobe Preview Handler Error

Hi
I have a problem with the adobe preview handler on Windows Server 2008 R2
When I click on a PDF to preview the file in explorer an internal error is generated
I have looked at registering the dll for this but this fails
Can anybody suggest a fix to resolve this

Hi Bluechip --
I've moved this post to the Acrobat forums as they'll likely be able to assist a bit better for your issue.
See this other related forum thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/303008
There is also this page which offers some fixes for errors with the Preview Handler -- http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html
See if you can get answers out of either of those pages, otherwise somebody else from the Acrobat team should be able to begin to help you out.
Regards,
Pete

No. Reader will not damage files. It is only meant to read pdf files. PDF files are frequently damaged when sent as email due to encoding issues.

Pdf Preview Handler Error in outlook 2010 32.bit and Server 2008 64.bit. Using Adobe X. Registry app id correct. Turned on previewer in outlook in trust center. Repaired adobe installation. All to no avail. Any thoughts or fixes. Please Help

Hello i got nearly the same problem. Selecting the .pdf attachment in outlook. error code says that no preview can be showed, because the needed preview isn't installed.
Server 2012 R2 as Terminalserver, Outlook 2013, newest version of adobe reader XI.
    I've already checked the following:
    - outlook>options>trustcenter>trustcenter settings>attachment handling .. the box disable preview is clear .. furthermore outlook>options>trustcenter>trustcenter settings>attachment handling>attachment and documentpreview .. all
boxes including pdf preview handler are filled.
    - adobe reader XI>edit>presettings?>e-mail-account ... outlook is standart.
    - Registryentry: "Change the AppID value to {534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C}"
    - also i repaired the adobe installation and i reinstalled it a few times.
    - even checked the access-rights on the temp. directorys outlook uses for attachments and the users have full access.
i have no more clue what it can be..
so may you have the solution for me or at least some tips.

  • Error in PDF preview Handler in Windows Explorer x32

I'm running Windows 7, 32 bit. and I get this error when trying to view a pdf in the preview pane "Error in PDF Preview Handler". I have Adobe Reader X installed, and have re-installed it with no  help.
I've read many problems about this, but everyone else is running 64 bit. I'm running 32.
    Any help please. Thank you

    Yes - sorry !
I solved my problem with the exchange of the UNC path against drive letters for the folders in
Administration - System initialisation - General settings - Tab Path
    Before:
    sbo-data\ruk\attachemnts
After: E:\ruk\attachements (E: is a local drive of the server and we run B1 via Windows Terminal Client on the same machine)
Before I did this, I checked the user rights on the paths, checked the DNS, hosts file, etc.

  • Adobe PDF Preview Handler Issue in WIndows 8 64 Bit Machine - After installing Adobe Pro 11.0.10

    Hi Guys ,
We are facing a serious issue with Windows 8 and Adobe PDF Preview Handler . We are using the PDFPrevHndlr.dll from Adobe to show PDF Previews in our application. It is working fine in Windows 7 and Vista and for some reason it is not working in Windows 8.1 64 bit machines after upgrading to Adobe Pro 10.0.10 .  Please help us figure out what is the root cause of this issue .
During a close analysis we have found that the PrevHost.exe( Windows component ) is failing soon after it is being invoked . Any help in this is much appreciated.
    Regards

  • Win 7 32 bit Adobe PDF preview handler issues (NOT 64 bit issue)

No previews available in Outlook or Explorer (for documents in folders). Investigation shows the Vista preview handler installed.  repeated reinstall of Reader changes nothing.
Attempts to use the registry hack provided on several sites for W7 64 do not work (because this is 32 bit)  Download site correctly identifies the OS as Win 7.. What to do? Thank you.

I have fifteen minutes to mark this as a question, despite the fact that no question link or icon exists. Adobe?

  • Acrobat 9.5.1.283 Preview Handler not working

Windows XP Professional - fully patched.
Adobe Acrobat 9.5.1.283 - fully updated.
    AcroReader 10.1.3.23
When trying to view the preview within Windows Explorer, it indicates that the "Preview is not available".
Is it necessary to enable the Preview Handler and if so, what is that process?  If it worked in the past and no longer works now, what would need to be done to re-enable this option?
Large number of stored PDFs with names that do not define the content of the documents are causing a great strain on using the PDF format.
Please assist if at all possible.
    Regards,
    Larry W.

You should do the install as the administrator and with anti-virus disabled. Usually the error indicates the patch could not be opened (may be corrupt or not in an accessable folder -- using the administrator might help here). When this happens it is often best to just download the updates (but do a repair first with Help>Repair) from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install them in order.
There are instructions for downloading the install at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1061905. However, you still need the SN. You should always backup your downloads to a CD or backup HD when you purchase such products. You should not expect the files to be around online indefinitely. Be sure you also record the SN for the future.

  • PDF Preview Handler Not Working in Outlook 2010

I have Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Outlook 2010.
Everything was working fine, until a few months ago when the PDF Preview Handler stopped working. I got the typical message that others were having with the issue with Adobe Reader 9. I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro and have also used Adobe Reader X. I have tried the little registry fix app that is supposed to fix this issue, but it states that my registry is already correct. Has anyone found a resolution for this issue with Acrobat X and Outlook 2010? As a workaround I am using the Foxit PDF Preview Handler, but I have to reinstall it everytime Adobe Reader or Acrobat is udpated as for some reason Outlook then reverts back to the PDF Preview Handler, which is not working.
    Thanks,
    Merg

Nope, using 32-bit. And I recently uninstalled Acrobat Pro completely and reinstalled it due to an issue with it not updating due to having the "Error Applying Transforms" issue. After I reinstalled, I updated it completely. I suppose I can try uninstalling and reinstalling again, but that seems like overkill.

  • Enable usage rights breaks the preview handler

    Hi guys,
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro to enable the usage rights on forms I have made in Livecycle.
The preview handler in Outlook 2010 can show the pdf before I enable usage rights but as soon as the rights are enabled, the preview is not shown anymore....
This is also the case for the thumbnails in explorer... ok before usage rights.... error after enabled...
    Any ideas?
    O/S: Windows 7 64Bit.....

Not with Acrobat. Adobe's LiveCycle Reader Extensions application is
    used for high volumes.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.
