Adobe print and PDF question

Hi,
In Adobe I managed to:
1) print via the spooler my sfp documents
2) grab the PDF and send them in a email
However I would like to have a combination of both. It now looks like when I set the GETPDF to 'X' it only creates the PDF string (Scenario2) and NOT spool to the printer.
Anybody an idea? I looked into the archiving as well but am lost..
Thanks!
Frans

As per my experience you cannot have both. You need to use a FM with parameters and call this FM twice with different expected result (first print, next get PDF). Otto

  • Problems Converting word documents with the Adobe Printer and method ,printout (OutputFileName:=) in

I would like to write a vb-procedure to convert a word document into pdf.
I'm developing in "Visual Basic 2005 express edition" and tried the following code:
    code[
Private Sub PrintDocument(sDocName As String,sNewDocName As String)
    'sDocname = "c:\tmp\test.doc"
    'sNewDocName = "c:\test\test.pdf)
    Dim m_wdApp As Word.Application = New Word.Application
    Dim m_wdDatei As Word.Document
    m_wdDatei = m_wdApp.Documents.Open(FileName:=sDocName)
    m_wdDatei.PrintOut(Background:=False,OutputFileName:=sNewDocName, _ ActivePrinterMacGX:="Adobe PDF")
    m_wdDatei.Close(False)
    m_wdDatei = Nothing
    m_wdApp.Quit()
    m_wdApp = Nothing
    End Sub
    ]End of code
After running the printout line I can see a little window popping up, which shows the progress in the converting and after a little time I can find the expected file in the targetdirectory.
The problem is that I can't open this file, I just get the message that the file is corrupt or not of the pdf-format.
By scanning the web, I found several threads describing the same problem, but so far I found no solution. Maybe someone here can help me.

Have downloaded both Adobe reader and PDF reader, but when I attempt to open a pdf from a site on safari, it starts to load, then disappears.  Any way to fix this?

Try quitting the PDF apps and Safari like I describe below. Then reset the iPad. After it starts try again.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Print to PDF questions

I have two questions. I have Acrobat 7 running on 10.5.2 on a new MBP.
    1. I can no longer successfully select the Adobe printer from the printer pop-u[p menu in the print dialog box. If I do, things seem to proceed, but the printer immediately goes to pause and will not resume. This is not a major problem, as the PDF button appears at the bottom left and that will save the file to PDF. But I am curious as to why the Adobe "virtual" printer no longer works.
    2. Previously, when using the PDF button, I could edit the menu and save PDFs to a folder of my choice. Now, when I select "edit the menu" and then hit the "+" button, I get the appropriate dialog box but cannot select a folder. I can open folders, but cannot select them as the "save to" folder. Any help here would be appreciated.

Some things that used to work in Tiger no longer work in Leopard. I suspect that Adobe did not rush to fix it because there is built-in way to generate PDF files already.

The Edit Menu feature is not designed to select a folder to save your PDF files into. It is so you can select an Automator workflow script to process your PDF file. That's how it handles such tasks as Mail PDF and Save PDF to iPhoto. You could create an Automator script to save a PDF to a particular folder, but in my experience, once you save a PDF to a folder, it becomes the default folder automatically until you select a different one.

  • Printing to pdf question CS5.5 Windows

    I am on a PC - Windows 7 using CS5.5.
    - I have created a piece and printed to a pdf.
    - When the person on the other end prints out the margins are all off. I realize and pointed out they are using an office printer, not a high end printer. The print out seems to be proportionately reduced towards the middle\center.
    - They will have their job done at a Kinko's and I have assured them the Kinko's printer is probably all right and will adjust. I called Kinkos and asked if it needed a specific pdf profile and they said "No."
    - I have sent screen shots of the layout showing measure mark every 1/8 of an inch (placed viewable lines on the layout) so they could see how all is measured properly vis-a-vis InDesign.
    - I checked and there is zero bleed and gutter (guter doesn't apply in this case but made sure anyway).
QUESTION - Is there anything else I can do\try or can it be the printers we are using.
Thanks for any illumination you can give me.

Although you didn't ask about this specifically, your original post mentions that you printed to a PDF. My assumption is that you were saying that you created the PDF file by printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance.
Be aware that Adobe absolutely recommends that PDF from InDesign be created by using the export function instead of the printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance or in any other way creating PDF via distillation of PostScript. Direct PDF export from InDesign (and the equivalent save as PDF from Illustrator and Photoshop) yields the most accurate and reliable PDF. The PostScript produced by Adobe applications is optimized for direct printing, not for PDF creation and is often very device dependent. Live transparency and color management is effectively lost and fonts are not optimized. There are other problems and issues as well. Please keep this in mind when creating PDF in the future.
Adobe does provide PDF generation capabilities as part of Acrobat via the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance as a “method of last resorts” to provide PDF creation services for applications for which there is no other or better way of PDF production.

  • Postscript Printer and PDF

    hi,
We have a kyocera printer and want to use ADS. The ADS works fine. FP_TEST_00 shows no error.
It seems to be alright when i preview the PDF. But the printout shows only code.
    It´s like this:
    %!PS-Adobe
    save
    % simple drawing functions
    /edge {/y2 exch def /x2 exch def /y1 exch def /x1 exch def .......
    ...........etc.
I found this entry at the SAP library
    https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bb/db03b04a3011d189490000e8323c4f/frameset.htm
So i tried to configure the printer as a postscript device as follows:
    - I changed the Print Type in XDC to postscript (ps_plain).
    - In SPAD i changed the printer driver at the devicetypes to "PostScript printer driver".
    - I activated "Postscript-Formatting" for G_RAW (which is used by the device type).
But nothing was changed on the printout. It just prints out raw Postscript code (or something like that).
Has anyone an idea what to change to get a working printout? there is no error Message or Dump. SP01 says everything is alright. ADS is also working fine.

  • InDesign crashes, when printing and PDF messes up my Typefaces, why?

    Hi,
I bought a new Mac pro laptop, Os X Version 10.9.2
I loaded up my Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium.
I know it's old, but all worked just fine until I tried to create a pdf from InDesign.
The typeface, only partly, appears as squares on pdf.
Looking at a solution online I updated my InDeseign.
Now I can not print anymore. Program crashes as soon as I hit the Print button.
Anyone out there able to help?
    Thanks

    Hi
New to this forum, but I too have had a problem with printing a PDF from InDesing. what I have found is when my dialog box gets to "DOWNLOADING PROCSET" and it just freezes, whats actually happening is the 'SAVE AS' dialogue box has appeared, but is not the active window. When I ALT+TAB through my open applications, in Windows 7 it changes your screen to 'preview' the programs you flick through, and I find it there, attached to outlook, or the internet. Upon further investigation, it appears to attach itself to which ever program I click, after the initial "DOWNLOADING PROCSET" freezing.
So now when I PDF from InDesign and it freezes at this point, I click the Desktop icon (in windows 7 its the rectangle in the bottom right corner) and it seems to 'place' the 'SAVE AS' dialogue box here, where I can actually select it and click SAVE.
    Hope this helps?

  • AIX-based printing and PDF file generation

    Greetings,
looking to find a best practices approach to scheduled printing of pdf BOXI reports hosted by in an AIX environment to a Windows AD secured network printer.
    Looking at three possible approaches:
    1. AIX-based printing: lpr queue with some ghostscript translation to postscript
    2. Windows-based printing via SAMBA: AIX based printing using samba services
    3. Windows-based printing via  FTP: transfer the file out from the AIX server and script the printing using Control-M
Leaning towards #3 presently.  Expert guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I faced a similar situation at a client site and after actually trying out Option 1, then considering the cost of Option 2 (resources, skill sets and long-term maintenance), we decided to go for Option 3.
With Option 1, we used the lpr queue commands to send the reports to particular printers (print queues) on the that were registered on the AIX box. We faced two major problems with this approach.
    (1) We had what we called the 'default' printer problem, where, may be based on the volume of pages we were printing or the performance issues on the server itself, print jobs would go the default print queue on the AIX server. As you can imagine, that was not good. Jobs that were intended for one department were ending up in another, and the default location had to start parsing through the print outs and create piles. Operational nightware.
    (2) Cover sheets... We had 1 report (basically a form) that needed to be printed with data for different departments (six depts). So a developer wrote a little java app that called BusinessObjects and passed in the report parameters - and ID, and the printer name. The problem that we faced was that the print jobs would come out the other end, each with its own cover sheet. Even though we passed in the AIX command to suppress the  cover sheet, they came out. I don't remember whether specifying the switch in the CMC worked or not - but we didn't have that luxury - we had to do programmatically because the printing was so dynamic.
So we opted for a rather simple situation, which was made possible also because the customer's license allowed it. We installed the report job servers (no CMS) on a windows servers, assigned them to the CMS pool on the AIX server, installed the printers we needed on the Win server. Then we created a Server group that included just the Windows servers (report processing servers), and locked the report in question to only be processed by servers in that group. So the report would only be processed by the Windows servers with the necessary printers.
The solution has been in operation for over 12 months and working great. We can manage all the servers from the CMC and with auditing turned on, we have great visibly on the performance of the system. Because this printing system is so critical, the process is being enhanced by throwing the stats on an Xcelsius dashboard for real-time monitoring by the operations folks.
Hope this helps. I'll be glad to share more if you're interested.

  • Character spacing messes printing and PDF exporting

I'm having problems printing and exporting to PDF from Pages.
The problem is that when I'm using Character spacing (ie. -7%) they display different on screen, on paper and in PDF. They display right on the screen. But PDF and printing get messed up, the spacing is not right and it adds more space to the fonts.
    I'm using:
    Mac OS X 10.5.1
    Pages 3.0.1
    Thanks,
    Fannar

I was having the very same problem. I was trying to make a business card with my name centered and character spacing at 40%. The character spacing seemed to only work for the first character. When it came to print or export, the text had shifted left as if it were centered with the spacing applied.
Fear not! I found a solution. Instead of directly printing or exporting as a pdf, I chose to save as a PostScript file in the print dialog. I could then open this file in Preview and save as a pdf or print with the designed character spacing.
    File>Print>PDF>Save as PostScript..
This work flow also fixed some nasty degradation of smaller fonts.
    Pages Developers take note!

  • Paper Design Printing and PDF printing problem

I'm using Report Builder 9.0.2.0.3 to create a report that I create a frame , in the frame i cut and pasted text by clicking on the A then pasting the text into it.
I then created a frame with that was at the next level in the object manger with a hyperlink in it. This fame was at the level where the text was that I pasted in the paragraph above. I placed it in the PaperLayout where I wanted it and ran the paper report and it look just fine in the PaperDesign Layout and all so when I create the PDF format and the link works in PDF. But when I print the paperlayout the link prints down a few lines on the page. When I print it through the PDF browser, it prints ok, only the paperlaout has a problems. I pasted the whole page of text before I placed the link where I wanted it.
Is there something else I can try? Appreciate any suggestions or explain, why it moves.
I even got the link to be the color blue.

If I understand the question correctly, you have a static boilerplate text which has some paragraphs. To add hyperlink to some part of the text(not the whole text object), you are placing a frame on top of that particular line of text.
    When you Run to Previewer
(or File->Preview Format->PDF/HTMLCSS/..), Report uses screen surface for Fonts and you see it correctly.
However, when you print it from Reports or do File->Generate to File->PDF/HTMLCSS/.., Reports uses the default printer's Fonts for formatting. This means that there could be a slight difference in how the text is formatted in the output as the font metrics for the text might be different. The frame containing the hyperlink might be in the same place where it was placed, however the text might have formatted differently. The text which was overlapping with the frame might have formatted little above or below the frame.
To solve this, instead of using separate frame for hyperlinking texts, you can divide your text and create separate boilerplate text objects for the text which needs to be hyperlinked. You can set the hyperlink property in the Property Inspector of this object. This way, the hyperlinks will be proper in all cases.

    Siva

  • Print button low resolution (72dpi) prints and PDFs

    Hello,
When I printed single pages from an Aperture book using the 'Print..' button the prints look rather soft. For the prints, this is not much of a problem (just proofing), but I'm having the same problem when I print a book to PDF (or JPEG) that I want to ship for final printing.
I have fiddled with the automator scripts behind this to increase the dpi but this seems artificial: The output images get a higher dpi but when zoomed in are still just as soft. My conclusion is that Aperture generates a fixed low (72dpi) output using the book print option.
Is there a way to have Aperture output custom book sizes at a better resolution (200-300 dpi)? Preferably PDF-X.
I'm generation custom books sizes, so taking the PDF for ordering an Apple book is not an option.
Apple calls Aperture a pro application so I think this should be possible and I do like the integrated workflow and book options.
    Anbody?
    Thanks in advance,

have you tried this Apple recommended method of producing the PDF?
Previewing a book order in Aperture 1.5 or later
    Open Aperture.
    Click the Buy Book button.
Select your order settings (quantity desired, Apple ID account information, shipping information, and any coupons).
    Click the Buy Now button.
Aperture will begin assembling the book. This may take several minutes depending on the size of your book.
When the assembly is complete, you will see a "Book Assembled" alert message.
Click "Reveal In Finder", then open (double-click) the PDF file to preview your order.
Note: If you are using Aperture 2 and preview a hardcover book, the first page of the PDF is the wrap-around dust jacket for your book, and the second page is the text that will be embossed in foil lettering on the hard cover of your book.
After previewing the book, go back to Aperture. If you decide to continue with the order, click Place Order. If you decide not to order the book at this time, click Cancel Order.

  • Printing to network printer and pdf

    Hi,
At my office I have a Canon, Oki and HP printer's to connect to the network, how I can configured the iPad to use does printer's ? I need to add app to my iPad ? What is the best app for that ? And I need to print/convert web pages ... to PDF too.
    Thanks,
    JProveta

    JProveta-
Apps on the iPad that can print to network printers have their own mail, text, photo and web browser. Therefore they do not enable printing from the iPad's other Apps. The only solution I know of is to run a program on a nearby computer that shares a network printer over WiFi as an AirPrint printer. Printopia is one example for a Macintosh computer.
What you really want is for the iPad to work like a laptop computer, which it is not. Something like the small MacBook Air or a "netbook" computer may be better for your use.
