Adobe printer port is missing!

I downloaded and installed Adobe reader 9 on my computer at work yesterday. When I tried to print, it said the printer was missing. So I found directions on how to manually install the pdf printer, but when I looked in the drop down menu for the pdf printer port, it wasn't there. How on earth do I install the pdf printer port?

There is not pdf printer port. The PDF printer port is part of Acrobat not Reader. If you are having trouble with your printer port, you might try removing your printer driver and re-installing it.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Printer port problem with windows 7.0?

I installed adbobe acrobat 7.0 standard on my new computer (windows 7.0), and I get this message: "warning 20225 adobe 7.0 ws unanle to setup adobe printer port." Does acrobat 7.0 work with windows 7.0?

If you are able to open Acrobat and Distiller, then you may be able to create a work-around. If the Adobe PDF printer was created, but not the port, then change the port to a "print-to-file" setting. Then open Distiller and setup a watched folder that you would print the file to. When you print the file, you may have to set the file extension to PS rather than the default PRN. The file would be a PS file and the extension is only to help the watched folder setup. Then try to print to the Adobe PDF printer and see if the watched folder will do the job. I am not sure and have not tried it on Win7 (I have AA9) but it is an option to try. If it does not work, then it is time to upgrade -- may be a good idea anyway.

  • Missing printer port

Ever since having to reinstall my OS because of a hardware upgrade screwing up my startup files, I am unable to install my printer port (LPT1) successfully.  Device manager simply doesn't detect it.  When I install it manually, it works, and the wizard tells me the drivers were successfully installed, and I must restart.  After I restart, the device mgr. shows an ! beside the printer port, and the properties box tells me that the device is either not present, or the drivers are not installed correctly.  Upon reinstalling the drivers, nothing changes, and WindowsME does not detect the port.  And when I try to install my printer, there is no LPT1 detected to install it to.  I have spent hours using different drivers, repairing registry, and trying to get this thing to work, with no success.  I would be grateful for any suggestions.

man, you really are the forum god.  i must be an idiot.  it worked! thanks!

  • Hyperlinks missing from PDF when using Adobe Printer.

    Hi,
I am not sure if this is in the correct spot or not. I have a group of users that are ALL experiencing the same problem. When they generate the PDF of their work using the Adobe Printer, ALL of the Hyperlinks in the document are gone (the text remains). This has been working up until August 20th of 2014. They are using Word 2010, and Framemaker 9 to create the source, and Acrobat Professional 8 for the generation of the PDF. I have used Libre Office Write to test it with and I get the same result, however if I go in to Acrobat and create a document and add a hyperlink it will work.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what is wrong?
    Thanks
    --Mike

Let us get a few items out of the way first.  How and what does the PDF generation:
    - The Adobe PDF Printer doesn't generate links EXCEPT in a very special case where the PostScript file has special markup embedded in it called PDFMARK.
    - Both Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader have a preference that will read the text of a PDF file and dynamically create hyperlinks from that text that are clickable. This preference can also be turned off.  Check it to make sure that for some silly reason this hasn't happened on your users machines.
    - Microsoft Word has a Ribbon at the top called "Acrobat".  Use this Ribbon and the Create PDF button in it to create PDF files with hyperlinks
    - Microsoft Word also has the option of Saving as PDF with a Microsoft Addin that has nothing to do with Adobe.  It's somewhat functional in the hyperlinks department but Acrobat's Ribbon is much more fully featured.
    - FrameMaker is a bit different because it actually uses that special markup language I mentioned previously called PDFMARK and then runs it through the Adobe Acrobat PDF Add-on (a.k.a Adobe Acrobat Distiller).
    - Libre Office uses it's own mechanisms to create PDF if I remember correctly.
    My Thoughts:
Figure out what process your users have been using if it is not a documented process.  Document that process.  Train your users as they come to the job on exactly how you want the PDF files generated.

  • Unable to print to Adobe printer in any program including Office 2010

My sustem is a Windows 7 64 bit.  I have Office 2010 installed as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro X ver 10.1.3.  I am unable to print to the Adobe PDF printer.  If I select it in Notepad it is Greyed out.  If I select it in an Office product like Word or Excel it shows that it is READY.  However if I select it so I can print to PDF I get an error message "Word cannot print.  There is no printer installed."
If I got to Devices and Printers Adobe PDF is listed.  If I right click on it and select "Printing Preferences"  I get an error message "Operation could not be completed."
If I select Printer Properties I get an error message "The "Adobe PDF Converter" printer driver is not installed on this computer.  Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver.  Do you want to install the driver now?"
If I click YES a wizard pops up, the Add Printer Driver Wizard.  I select Next, choose either any of the Adobe PDF Converter Versions or HAVE DISK, the NEXT.  If I select have disk I go to the proper place "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF" and select the file AdobePDF.inf.  I then select the top Adobe PDF Converter and select Next.  It says You have successfully completed the Add Printer Driver Wizard.  You are about to add "Adobe PDF Converter, x64, Type - User Mode.  I click Finish and get another error.
This error says "Unable to install Adobe PDF Converter, Type - User Mode, x64 driver.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000002)."  I select OK and Adobe PDF Properties pops up.  It has tabs like General, Sharing, Ports, Advanced, Color Management & Security. I can click on any of them and make any changes but once I click on OK and close the window and then Right Click on Adobe PDF there is no change to my results.  I still get all of the above errors.
I have tried deleting the Adobe PDF printer and then selecting in Programs & Featues (Old ADD/REMOVE) the Adobe Acrobat X Pro item and right clicking on it and the selecting Change.  It goes through almost a reinstall, it adds the Adobe Printer back but NO CHANGE.  I still can't print to Adobe PDF.
    Can someone help?

Can you try 'Print as Image' (Advanced button on Print panel).

  • How to install Adobe printer's 'postscript driver' in mac os x

    hello again,
as posted recently hv a problem with adobe printer's postscript driver (ppd),In Indesign cs4 It shows ppd is missing while making Print File(.ps),
pls suggest how to install ppd again, i tried to install ppd driver downloaded from adobe website, but it fails to install.
    pls help.

I guess you didn't read the link I gave you inthe other thread...
Here's one of the comments that you would have found:
Short description to the workaround Solutions
    1) Usual workaround for printing with Distiller under SL and InDesign CS4:
Copy the PPD called “ADPDF9.PPD” (download-link here in this topic) to Library/Printers/PPDs /Contents/Resources/en.lproj
Works for CS4. Problem: Does NOT work for CS5.
    2) Workaround for InDesign CS5:
    - Go to Applications/Adobe Indesign CS5/Presets
    - Create a folder called “PPDs” (attention: foldername is case-sensitive!)
    - Copy the PPD called “ADPDF9.PPD” (download-link here in this topic) into this folder.
    - PostScript Printer will be useable within InDesign CS5
Hope that helped and clears up all questions so far.

  • No Adobe Printer installed with Acrobat XI Pro

I have recently replaced Acrobat 8 Pro by XI Pro on a machine running Win XP Pro SP3. After installation, the Adobe printer was missing in the printer menu, and attempts failed to use the "Make pdf" button from within MS Office applications. When prompted to re-install, I did so, but the problem remained.

  • Installation - cannot create a printer port.

I am reinstalling Acrobat 7 from a CD after upgrading my computer fromW-XP to W7 64bit, and it says it cannot create a printer port - and so, cannot create a PDF from Office applications.  Read and edit work OK, and it works OK on an older machine with W7 32 bit.  Upgrading online to V7.1 did not fix it, nor did the repair option.  What now?

The AA7 print driver is not compatible. Neither is AcroTray. Do Acrobat and Distiller both open? If so, then you can download a PS driver (possibly form Adobe or select one of the HP Color PS printer) and install that driver. Open the driver properties and change the name to Adobe PDF and the port to File. You can then print to this printer. However, the file that is created is a PS file (PRN extension typically) and must be opened in Distiller to create a PDF. A little extra work. If you are not happy with that, then you should purchase Acrobat XI to go along with your new OS.

  • Need to change Adobe PDF Port.....where??

When I select File/Print and select the Adobe PDF printer I get a message saying the PDF printer is not "bound" to Adobe PDF port.
It wants me to change the Port to Adobe PDF Port but I can't find where to change it.
Anyone know where to find the port selections?
Using Acrobat X standard, win. 7 and MS office files

You can change the port from your Windows printer settings menu:
    Start > Settings > Printers > right-click on Adobe PDF > Properties > Ports
Or you can delete the Adobe PDF printer, then choose Help > Repair from the Acrobat menu. That'll put it back in the right place.

  • Classic - Printer port (USB 1) disappears after switching User

I have used an Epson SP785EX on my iMac G5 under OSX 10.3 for months without trouble. I upgraded to OSX 10.4.8 and are constantly loosing this printer expecially when printing from Classic. After having tried everything including resetting the printing system it is still not clear what exactly causes the loss of the USB Port. However it may have to do with restarting or switching users. When in the chooser after selecting the original Epson Printer driver (which I have reinstalled many times) the Port (USB 1) does not show in the 'choose printer port list' (nothing at all shows). I have also tried the 'LaserWriter 8' solution which I do not understand. Perhaps someone can explain or point me to some literature. LaserWriter 8 shows in the Chooser but again nothing shows on the right pane of the Window. I am stabbing in the dark with this. Any help will be apprecated.

I have used an Epson SP785EX on my iMac G5 under OSX
10.3 for months without trouble. I upgraded to OSX
10.4.8 and are constantly loosing this printer
    expecially when printing from Classic.
The printing subsystem changed considerably between Panther & Tiger. In Panther, you had to have a working OS 9 driver in order to print from Classic. This caused problems, particularly with certain HP printers which had OS 9 drivers which were not properly coded, and with newer printers which did not have and never would have OS 9 drivers.
In Tiger, things have changed. The default driver is the LaserWriter driver. You don't have to do anything, not even select the driver. The print system will print to the LaserWriter driver and the LaserWriter will print to the OS X driver for your printer. (This, of course, means that there must be an OS X driver for that printer...)
    After having
tried everything including resetting the printing
system it is still not clear what exactly causes the
    loss of the USB Port.
Classic does not have direct access to hardware, including USB ports.
However it may have to do with
restarting or switching users. When in the chooser
after selecting the original Epson Printer driver
(which I have reinstalled many times) the Port (USB
    1) does not show in the 'choose printer port list'
    (nothing at all shows).
    This is normal.
    I have also tried the
'LaserWriter 8' solution which I do not understand.
Just print, normally. The LW8 dialog box will pop up. You can then select the printer you want to use. (I have several printers on my system, two HP inkjets, a Brother laser, a label printer, a fax modem, and Adobe PDF)
1 type cmd-p or however you normally print
2 select the printer from the pull-down menu on the LW8 dialog
    3 print
4 the system will hand off the print job to the proper OS X print queue, which will then print the file. If you're printing in color to a color printer, you'll get color output. If you're printing to Acrobat Distiller, you'll get a PDF. If you're faxing, you'll get the fax dialog so you can enter your dialing & cover sheet info.
Perhaps someone can explain or point me to some
literature. LaserWriter 8 shows in the Chooser but
again nothing shows on the right pane of the Window.
I am stabbing in the dark with this. Any help will be

    Just print. That's all.

  • Virtual adobe printer

Hi commun9ity. After having installed 7.0 pro an error regarding the missing virtual adobe printer occurred. I have un- and reinstalled the software using admin permission. Same error. After each online update same error.
    Using
print as/with adope pdf printer (which is unavailable
    How can solve this challenge?
    Thx for ur help

The simple answer is that Acrobat 7 does not support any 64-bit version of Windows. There are no workarounds. Acrobat 8.1 (an update to Acrobat 8.0) was the first version to support 64-bit Windows and primarily, the area of support that was added was that of the AdobePDF PostScript printer driver instance, which is what you are referring to as the “Virtual Adobe Printer.”
The current version of Acrobat is 11.0.9. Previous versions are no longer available for licensing.
