Adobe pro XI - standard for opening pdf's

I just installed Adobe pro XI. I want windows to open my pdf's in Adobe pro XI. Now I opens op in Adobe Reader. But when I try to edit the obtions, I cannot chose Adobe pro XI as standard program for pdf's. And Adobe pro XI dosn't show op on the list of programs neither here or when choosing "Open file with".

Launch 'Acrobat' and go to 'Edit> Preferences> General'
On the right side at the bottom click on the button 'Select Default PDF Handler'
Select 'Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro' from the list and click on 'Ok'.
Acrobat will be set now as the default application for all the pdfs.

Please follow the step mentioned below:
Right click on any pdf file > select open with > Select choose program > select adobe acrobat reader > there is a checkbox under the window its says always use this program to open these files > select ok.
or you can also perform the below steps:
- Go to Control Panel from the “Start” menu.
- Under Programs, choose Default Programs
- Choose Set Associations (Vista), or Associate a file type or protocol with a program. (Windows 7)
- Find “.pdf” in the list of file associations.
- Select Change Program, and choose Adobe Reader from the list.
- Click Ok

Most of the documents have sensitive info on them. I will have to do some looking for some that i can share, but will get something to upload (dropbox) as soon as I can.

My Adobe Acrobat Pro X will not open PDFs. This happens twice a month and is becoming extremely irritating. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing and a system restore. What can I do to make this problem go away?

To check that it is an Acrobat problem, open Acrobat from the programs list and try to open a PDF from the file menu. I suspect this will work fine from what I read into your post. I suspect that somehow your OS is changing file associations. In that case, right click on a PDF and select Open With>Select Default Program and then select Acrobat. Be sure the check box for default program has been checked.

Adobe Acrobat XI Standard for Windows upgrade to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro for OS X

I have changed the platforms, from win to mac, and Adobe Acrobat is required for my work. I own Adobe Acrobat XI Standard for Windows and I was interested if I could change the platform to OS X, but unfortuantelly XI Standard is not available for mac. Also, I could not find a way on Adobe.com site to upgrade XI Standard to XI Pro and then change the platform.
Please advise.

I believe Adobe have been known to deal with "crossgrades" before, but you would need to contact sales in person to deal with this.

You normally use the same serial number that you are first issued. If you registered your product when you first installed it then you should be able to find your setial number available thru your Adobe account online.

Parameters for opening PDF files in a browser

I read some of the posts about making a text link from an html page to a specific location in a pdf document in the browser. I set up the parameters, as I understand it, according to the document "Parameters for Opening PDF Files." The result from my test took me to the top of page 1, not to the bookmark on page 3 that I specified. See the link below. What is wrong with the parameters?

Suddenly, Adobe will not launch or open PDF's from my computer or from the web. I have tried to uninstall and re-install without any luck. I use WIN 7 and IE8. Help!

Running Reader XI and tried the scprit again. There is no error message (infact no message) when I try to open Reader. You don't need to install the older version, you only need the serial number from your original purchase. If you don't have them to hand, did you register? If so, they should be in your Adobe account. If not you really need to contact Adobe, though it isn't clear they will be able to do anything without some proof of purchase etc.

Acrobat Pro 9 does not open pdf on web

I have just done a clean installation of Win Vista Home Premium, and put CS4 on it. I always throw out a lot of links and programmes that come with a re-install, but may have thrown out too much this time: Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 opens pdf's just fine as long as they are on my hard disk. It does not open pdf files on web sites.
I remember trying to delete the link to Acrobat.com that has nestled itself at the top of "All Programs". Its icon has dissapeared, but otherwise it seems ok. It seems unlikely that that has anything to do with my not being able to open pdf's on the web, but I mention it anyway.
Anybody any ideas and remedies? Thanks.

I just realised the same pdf on the web is opened properly by Acrobat Pro when the site is open in IE. It does not work in Firefox 3.5.2, however.
I pointed in Firefox Tools > Options > Applications the application to open pdf's to Acrobat 9.1 . It does work now, but in a rather weird fashion: Acrobat seems to sort of swirl into my Firefox window. Never mind, the pdf's do open.
