Adobe Professional license in Terminal Server Farm

When deploying Acrobat Standard X for 1 user on a terminal server, everything works fine. But this terminal server is one of 4 servers in a farm.
The 3th Terminal server tells me i cand activate the licence because it's already activated on the others.
You i need to purchase 4 licenses for just 1 user?
Nicolien

Hi Nicolien,
It looks as though you have purchased a Retail single user license, thus the limit of 2 product activations, which is intended for users to be able to install their licnese on a primary computer and a potential backup or mobile (laptop) computer. Before installing an Acrobat license in a terminal server environment, you may wish to read this FAQ: http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/volumelicensing/pdfs/acrobat_on_a_server_policy_doc.pdf

  • Logging into a specific server in a terminal server farm

We have several terminal server farms and in each farm we have the need for 1 user to always log into a specific server in the farm.   This is due to a little piece of sortware that is required for a device that only this one user has and
the fact the it is licensed to only one server.   The user must use that server for it to work.  I want to include this server in the farm because it seems silly to have a server for only one user.    How can I point one PC/user
to the same server in the farm all the time?  We are using the Connection Broker and NLB which seems to work just fine for all other users.
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
What operating system version are you running on your servers?  Server 2008 R2?  Server 2012?
When you configure a RDS farm to be load-balanced by the connection broker, all servers in the unique farm are intended to have the exact same applications installed.  The idea is the RDCB can redirect users to different servers as needed to balance
the load, and that you may take any particular server (or servers, if you have enough) offline and your farm will still work.
Now, there are always exceptions and I understand it would be nice if you could assign a user/app to a specific server to handle a case like yours.  For example, you would understand this particular user or app would not be load-balanced or highly
available and if the one server was down it would not work, but other users/RemoteApps would be load-balanced as usual.  This is
not a feature of the current versions of RDS.
To do what you want the "best way" would require writing a custom plugin for RDCB.  In your custom plugin you would specifiy the load-balancing logic.  For example, when one of the "special" users logs on, your logic would direct them to the
correct specific server, but when a regular user logs on you would allow the normal RDCB load-balancing logic to apply.  Please see here for more information:
Terminal Services Session Broker Plug-in reference
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/cc644962(v=vs.85).aspx
Besides writing a custom plugin I suggest you consider the following workarounds:
    1. Instead of running the app under RDSH, run it in a Win7/Win8 VM pool if possible.  Either a pool of identical VMs or assign each user that needs to run the app to a dedicated VM.  Downside of this is added complexity, licensing for VDI,
and an increase in hardware resources required to run the VMs.
    2. Have the user connect to the server using /admin.  You can change the permissions so that a specific group may connect using a /admin connection, without them being administrators.  Downside of this is that some features
of RDSH are not present when connected as an administrative RDP session, and only two Active admin sessions are permitted.
    3. If running Server 2008 R2 you could set the server so that it does not participate in load balancing and have the users that need to run this special app connect directly to the server's ip address instead of to the farm name.  Downside of this
is that you will get more uneven load distribution, however, it may not be that bad if you are balancing your initial connections using NLB and you have all of your regular users connecting to the farm name as usual.
    4. Have a separate server in each farm (not joined to the farm) just for this one app.  If possible they could be VMs with not much resources dedicated to each.  I know this is what you did not want to do, but I mention it because an
extra base Windows Server license, one for each farm, is likely less additional cost than licensing the special software on
all servers.  If you can run the app in VMs then the additional hardware cost of doing it this way is reduced.

  • Can I use an Adobe Professional license from 2008 with the current version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

Can I use an Adobe Professional license from 2008 with the current version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

With "license" you mean serial number?  If that serial number was for a different Acrobat version (e.g. 9), you cannot use it for the current version XI.
You can however use it to purchase an upgrade from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html

  • Running adobe acrobat on a terminal server & licensing purchase

Is it possible to run both the standard and professional versions of adobe acrobat (1 license of each) on a terminal server? Each version would be security locked down to the specific licensed user.
    Also
If you purchase adobe acrobat through licensing is it possible to purchase just one license or is there a minimum number of licenses that you can purchase? Is the better option for one license to purchase the boxed retail product?

You have a better chance to get a helpful reply if you ask in the Acrobat forum, or even at http://forums.adobe.com/community/licensing

  • How to license Acrobat in a Terminal server farm?

How to handle the following situation, esp. license-wise:
There are like 10 Windows2008R2 servers that make a Remote Desktop Server farm.
There are more than 100 users RDPing to that farm.
And five of these users need the Acrobat Pro version (all others are happy with the Reader).
How to install deploy and LICENSE Acrobat Pro in this scenario?
Apparently, it needs to be installed on all farm members, while most users must be denied access and only the five privileged users must be able to use the program - no matter who of them is on which farm member ...

  • Adobe PDF Documents - Windows Terminal Server, tips ?

    Hi,
I am looking for some tips.
We provide managed hosted servers for medium sized companies and for years have been using Adobe for the creation, manipulation and viewing of PDF's
However since all these servers are running Terminal Services we find that the display and scroll speed of any document that we edit with Adobe to be very is slow.
We can understand why this occurs, due to the fact that unlike other documents the background of the document scrolls / moves like it would for an other image but not all PDF products suffer so badly
I have reduced the default resolution of any created pdf's and this has made a significant improvement but this does not solve the problem of documents created else where.
I have tried some other pdf products and they don't seem to suffer as badly as Adobe does in this department. We don't want to stop using Adobe so hopefully I can get some tips to improve this situation.

    Bill,
    Thank you for your response.
Firstly, it does of course raise a flag of concern for users running a full copy of Adobe on their Terminal Servers. I would have thought that as long as they had sufficient licenses for all users i.e. 50 Adobe user licenses for 50 Terminal Server users they would be above board, but I will check up on this for them and if this is the case well that answers my question perfectly, they will have to change products.
I also understand that there are many other converters around, we have tried several but would prefer to stay with Adobe. We don't like to support multiple products and have been supporting Adobe now for probably over a decade.
Lastly the problem is not only for Acrobat Professional but also even just for the Reader. You see when you display an Adobe "Document" it is actually and image and therefore scroll speeds on a Terminal Server are agonisingly slow due to the "white" background of the document. Other products as we both have mentioned seem to have gotten "around" this some how and I am not quite sure how.
I really don't expect to find a solution to this problem, I thought I would bring it up on the forums in case I have missed something before we have to move to a different PDF document application.
    Regard

  • Install Adobe Photoshop Elements on Terminal Server

Hi, if i want to install Adobe Photoshop Elements on a Terminal Server so 5 people can use it at the same time, what kind of licence do i need?
    Thanks

I dont think this workflow is suppoted.
You will have to install PSE on all the 5 machines and buy a Volume Licensing serial number for using same serial number on all the machines.

  • Adobe is not printing - Terminal Server Windows 2012

Hello and thank you for reading this.
We recently upgrade our server infrastructure  to Windows 2012 R2. When a user logging to a server (Terminal Server 1 let's say) sometimes they cannot print from Adobe. If they can login to another Server, let's say Terminal Server 2 they are just fine.
The issue is the following:   They click on Print >  Select Printer >  Hit "Print"  and nothing happens.   When Adobe Reader is working, after clicking on "Print" you clearly see a progress bar until it reaches 100 %.
Troubleshooting:  We have updated the drivers to the latest versions , re-install Adobe Reader but nothing seems to help.  This is very annoying as the user needs to login to a different server in order to print from Adobe disconnecting the whole session.
Also, a different user with same permissions can login to the server having issues and print fine from Adobe.
If you can guide us in the right direction to finally resolve this it would be greatly appreciated.
Additional Notes: All printers are in a printer server environment.  Users are able to print everything else except PDF Files using Adobe Reader.  When installing another PDF Reader software they are able to print fine.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Are you still facing this issue. What is the current version of Reader installed.
Provide me more information about, how are user profiles are setup.

  • Adobe X install in Terminal Server environment

In relation to this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/slow-display-performance-terminal-server.html
I need to know if these registry keys are different for Adobe X – Also need to know if they should be applied to HKLM instead of HKCU so the policy applies to all users on the box and if it requires a reboot.
    deactivate "2D Graphic acceleration" HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\AVDisplay - bUse2DGPUf=dword:0
    deactivate “Smooth images" HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals - bAntialiasImages=dword:0
    deactivate “Smooth line art" HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals - bAntialiasGraphics=dword:0
set "Smooth Text" to None (optional: some customers have reported acceptable performance without setting Smooth Text to None)
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals - bAntialiasText=dword:0
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals - iAntialiasThreshold=dword:0
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals - benableDDR=dword:0

Sabian is correct about the hives. Use HKCU per the instructions. However, I'd start with more recent info provided for Citrix before using the referenced kb: Citrix Deployments — Enterprise Administration Guide.

  • Need help transferring FrameMaker and Adobe Professional License

One of my colleagues when leaving the company uninstalled Frame 9 and Adobe Professional 8 on her system without deactivating the license. Now, we would like to reuse the license for the new hire but are unable to do so because the license is not yet "released".
These were soft licenses, not boxed versions. When we contacted Adobe Support, we were told that we need to send the PDF license copy, which we now no longer have (although we have the license number in our records). Is there any way we can reuse this license?
    Thanks,
    nishmvk

Hi, it's definitely possible to move Adobe software between computers but you do need to deactivate it first
If you haven't done that, perhaps one simple solution would just be to reinstall the software on the same machine, then deactivate and uninstall
Otherwise, only Adobe customer support can reset an inaccessible activation, to my knowledge

  • Would Adobe consider licensing the FormsCentral server technology?

Without repeating much of what has been said, we have found this a very useful and cost effective way of collecting data from a number of collaborators and allowed us to streamline the costs of collecting non identifiable data and sharing it with authorised users.  Will Adobe consider licensing the technology to a not-for-profit or similar who will be able to continue the service and seek to develop it taking into account the lists of additional functionality that people would find useful?

    Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. If you use the FormsCentral authoring tool to generate a PDF that is not submission-enabled for data collection though FormsCentral, it would be possible to use Acrobat to add logic within the form to submit to a local server. That workflow is outside the scope of this forum, so if you have questions I would suggest that you post to the Acrobat Forms user forum - http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms.

  • Terminal Server Farm balancing with down server

I have an 11501 that is balancing connections between my 10 terminal servers.
We are using roundrobin because we were told by TAC that leastconn and ACA do not work well with terminal server environment.
The problem is that whenever a server goes down and comes back up that server is not first inline for people reconnecting. I need help finding a way, once the down server comes back online, to make this server have a higher weight until its connections are about equal to what the other server loads are.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
in my pinion balance leastconn should the job as it only counts the number of connections see :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/contnetw/ps792/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008029c621.html#wp1038118:
balance leastconn - Least connection algorithm. This balance method chooses a running service that has the fewest number of connections.
We do not recommend that you use UDP content rules with the balance leastconn load-balancing algorithm. The service connection counters do not increment and remain at 0 because UDP is a connectionless protocol. Because the counters remain at 0, the CSS will give inconsistent results.
So if your terminal service is a running via UDP you are having a problem but in any other case it should do the job from the description given above.
The balance aca will fail due to the fact that the first and keepalive is very fast and so it can not determin the real load what you already found out.
Which method did you use balance aca or balance leastconn?
    Cheers,
    Joerg
