Adobe Professional link behavior
Windows XP
Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0
I converted a Word document to Acrobat, and I've creating web links within the document. But, when I left click on the link, it appends the contents of the web link to the PDF. I want to be able to left click on the link and have the web page open in the browser. I know that I can open the web link in the browser by right clicking on the link, but this document is going out to several users, and they are used to left clicking on links to open the web browser. Is there a way to change the behavior of the links so that you can left click to open the link in a browser?
I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thank you.
If you click on a web link while viewing a PDF in Acrobat, it will probably attempt to download the linked html page, convert it to PDF and append it to the PDF document you're viewing.
To launch the linked web page in a browser, Ctrl+Click the link instead of clicking it.
To make this your default:
Choose Edit, Preferences, Web Capture.
Change the "Open Weblinks" option to "In Web Browser" instead of "In Acrobat".
Acrobat will now launch web pages in the browser when you click the link (but you can Shift+Click the link to append the page to your PDF as before or Ctrl+Click to open the web page as a new PDF)
Hint: If the cursor becomes a hand with a W when you hover the mouse pointer over the link, Acrobat will launch the web link in your browser. If the cursor becomes a + sign, Acrobat will append the page to your PDF. If it becomes a blank document sheet, Acrobat will open the web link as a new PDF.

Adobe Professional - link action - File Exit doesn't work as it should
In Adobe Professional, create a new link using the following steps:
- Create Link
- Custom Link
- Click Next
- Go to the Actions tab
- Select the 2 following Actions:
- File>Close
- File>Exit
- Click Ok on the 2 dialog boxes.
-save the pdf
When you open the document (in Reader or Professional) and you click the link, the File Exit action never occurs (Adobe stays open). For certain users, the File Close action works (but not the the File> Exit).
Please note that all users have the following configuration:
Edit --> Preferences --> Internet --> Display PDF in Browser = UNCHECKED
Edit --> Preferences --> Internet --> Allo fast web view = UNCHECKED
All users are using Adobe Reader 9.2, and the behavior is the same for all.Marcslrois666, you are in the wrong Forum.

Link to printer on Adobe Professional
I am looking to add a link to a printer on Adobe Professional. So if I send the document to a third person, they should be able to click on the link and the link should take them to their default printer. How do I go about doing that?
thanksAcrobat already has a Print button, but if you want you can create a form button field that prints the file.

Problem with Hyperlinks Created in Adobe Professional
Has anyone experienced weird behavior from hyperlinks created with Adobe Professional when trying to open in Safari browser? Our graphic designer has been creating our newsletter using Adobe Professional and hyperlinks are created to link our advertisers to their websites. But, when someone is using the Safari browser, the response is that the page is missing. This doesn't happen when the same link is clicked on using IE, Google Chrome or Firefox.
In order for a modified form to be saved with any recent version of Adobe Reader, the document has to Reader-enabled, which is done in Acrobat 9 by selecting "Advanced > Extend Feature in Adobe Reader". So if the forms worked with Reader 9, they must have had the rights applied through this process or by LiveCycle Reader Extensions. It would be interesting to see a form that is fillable/saveable with Reader 9 that doesn't work with Reader 10.

Issues with Adobe Professional 9
Hi
We are facing some issues with Adobe Professional 9,
The problems are as follows while converting the DOC file to PDF using Adobe Proff 9.
1) Bullets are missing
2) Crossreferences are not working
3) adding junk characters in header.
Can you please help me on this.
We need to understand the issue.
Manohar S SJust some stray thoughts on the topic:
Use Adobe PDFMaker to create the PDF from the MS Word file.
When a MS Word cross-reference is inserted, ensure that "Insert as hyperlink" is ticked in the Cross-reference dialog.
In the configuration of Adobe PDFMaker's Preferences, ensure "Add Links" is ticked (under the Settings tab).
Ensure that the installed Acrobat (and associated Adobe PDFMaker) is working with a compatible version of Office.
See: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333504.html
For all characters used in the source MS Word file; ensure that the characters used provide proper mapping to Unicode.
Do not use characters that rely upon a restricted character value.
When using Word Headings/Styles that incorporate the bullet character, ensure you work from those that are "built-in" to MS Word.
If you are working out of Windows 7 / Office 2010 you need to move up to Acrobat X.

Reinstall Adobe Professional 9.3 Error
Adobe Professional 9.3 security update will install once on a machine with 9.2 already installed. If a user removes Adobe Professional 9 using the Add Remove Programs uninstall and then tries to reinstall, there is a generic Error when installing it for the second time with all of the security updates in consecutive order. Does any know why this error is occuring? It looks like the error occurs towards the end of the first install of the first security patch on this reinstall. The same for all of the rest of the security patch installs. This doesn't happen on any of 9.2 and earlier security patches when installing them alone.
If I installed by using DVD version. There is no error occurred and I used it couple of year till lately changed new hard disk. Reinstall back by using DVD version and can't activate because this product discontinue.
The vendor provide the link for download this product and unfortunately when install face this error. Thanks. -
I have lost the CD that came with my Adobe Professional 8. I need to re-install the program. Does anyone know where i can get another CD.
if you mean acrobat 8 pro and if you follow all 7 steps, you can download a trial via one of the links on this page using a browser that accepts cookies: http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a download problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps. typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem, but your browser must also allow cookies so that's (a restrictive browser setting) another potential source of problems. -

Failed to start Adobe Professional CS5
I have downloaded Adobe Professional CS5 from your website yesterday. However, from what I have learnt before in my institution, the features are already different and it makes me stucked on how to start. Besides, I have also following the instructions at this website. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flash/cs/using/WSd60f23110762d6b883b18f10cb1fe1af6-7f10a.html# WSd60f23110762d6b883b18f10cb1fe1af6-7f0fa Unfortunately, it does not help either. I need your help for this matter. Thank you.
Hi,
From the link you sent, it appears that you're running the related (but different) Product named "Adobe Flash Professional CS5". Sorry, I know that the new branding names can be confusing.
This forum is mainly for questions about "Adobe Flash Builder 4" (formerly known as Flex Builder), but you can find the Flash Pro forum here:

Purpose of Adobe PDF Link Helper
I have an idea of what this browser add-on does.
AcroPDF.dll
Adobe PDF Browser Control
AKA Adobe Acrobat Sharepoint OpenDocuments Component
AKA PDF Browser Control
Apparently if I disable it PDFs embedded in a page with the <embed> tag fail to function properly.
However, I can't find anywhere accurate documentation on what this add-on below does.
AcroIEHelperShim.dll
Adobe PDF Link Helper
AKA Adobe PDF Helper for Internet Explorer
AKA AcroIEHelperShim Library
IE9 seems to work flawlessly without it. PDF's still open within the browser with it disabled. Only if I uncheck Display PDF in Browser in Readers preferences does that cease.
So, can someone (hopefully Adobe) entlighten me on what this add-on does, and why I shouldn't just have all employees have this disabled by default?I do not see either PDF Link Helper or Adobe Acrobat SharePoint Open Documents Component in 64 bit IE9. I see them both in the 32 bit version. Are they both for displaying in a browser? The root issue I am trying to solve is getting the SharePoint 2010 Acrobat X integration to work, The original symptom was that a user would check out a pdf file from a SharePoint library, edit it (using the comment feature in Reader) and then Save or Check In. Either action would result in a Cannot Access the Network error. Looking at the HTML traffic in Fiddler showed the error text had nothing to do with the problem, which seemed to be about attribute values. Anyway, I put this on the back burner for a couple months and returned to it recently. It now works on my machine in a 32 bit browser. (ACCEPTABLE RESTRICTION). My coworker still gets the original error. I poked around and found the SharePoint Open Documents add-on on my machine and not hers and suspect it has something to do with the difference in behavior. So I am trying to find out what it is supposed to do and if it really is relevant, how to cause it to be downloaded on other people’s machines. I have been through the server configuration steps listed in Chapter 13 of the Acrobat Admin Guide.

Integrating Adobe Professional with Java webapps: resources? introductions?
I'm interested in learning what resources there are for integrating Java and Adobe Professional, in general.
If it helps, my projects already use the Spring Framework.
My boss is particularly interested in being able to fill out a PDF form from within a Java webapp and have that data go directly to our database.
She mentioned that .net had a lot of bridges to Adobe Professional.
I would rather have new projects be in Java so I am eager to find if there are any easy bridges between Java and Adobe Professional for more than just the one task I mentioned.
I would greatly appreciate the names of resources and links to introductions in integrating the features Adobe Acrobat Professional has to offer with Java web technology as this is a completely new area to me.
Thanks
SteveYou have different options when you add a submit function to a PDF form:
- Submit the data via a standard HTML forms submission, the web server
does not have to know anything about PDF, the data look just like it would
from a HTML form
- Submit the data via the FDF/XFDF format. This is Adobe's forms data
file format (and it's XML version). As far as I know, there is only one
instance where you would need FDF, and that is with files that are
submitted via a forms submission. For FDF/XFDF submissions, you need to
parse the FDF/XFDF file format and extract the data before you can process
it.
- Submit the whole PDF fie with the form data embedded. This is the most
complex solution for data extraction, but the most convenient when you
submit the filled out form via email to human - we do much better seeing
the whole PDF with the data in the right spots. If you submit the whole
PDF, your software needs to be able to parse the PDF. I would not go that
route for a system that is extracting the data via software.
Hope that helps.

I can't delete a page in adobe professional anymore... what gives????
Hi Doctoromaka,
Are you unable to delete pages from any PDF, or is the problem specific to one file? If it's just one file, is it possible that the document has permissions applied that would prevent you from modifying the file? (You would see "SECURED" in the title bar of the PDF if it's been secured.) (Also, make sure that the file is open in Acrobat Pro, not Adobe Reader--I always have the two open simultaneously, and sometimes don't realize which one I'm working in.)
If the problem is widespread, what's changed on your system?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Best,
Sara -
I can't really add any more than this. Often the PDF is incompatible with this older (v6) of adobe professional.
What is your operating system?
Open a PDF from where? If online, in what browser?
