Adobe programs running slow

I recently bought the Adobe Creative Suite CS2 for my 12" Mac Powerbook G4 and when I am working in the programs it responds really slow. Is there a way to make it respond faster? Do I need to buy an extra hard drive or more memory or ram? Any information would be great!

Hi, Generally the more memory (RAM) you have, the faster CS will work.
Performance is also linked to processor speed, dual processors tend to be faster as CS is geared for dual processing.
Closing other applications whilst running CS will also help.
You can also create a scratch disc for CS under Photoshop> preferences>plugins and scrach discs, this creates a temporary space on your hard drive for CS to use, again speeding things up.
The main point being more RAM=more speed.
Hope this helps.

  • LV7.1 compiled program runs slow with disc. type defs checked

I am working on a VI (with about a hundred sub-VIs) written by someone else (who is no longer available to answer questions about it).  I've done only a few minor updates, but when I re-compiled it, the resulting EXE ran several times slower than the original.  As an experiment, I unticked the "Disconnect type definitions and remove polymorphic VI instances" checkbox in the compile options, and this resulted in a much faster EXE.  I could post the VIs, but I would bet that most folks here don't have the time to look through it (programming style is very "spaghetti code"-ish).  For what it is worth, the main VI consists of a couple of one-time code blocks and two large While loops (one for number crunching and the other for GPIB instrument control).  Also, the various VIs use a LOT of locals, arrays, text files, property nodes and invoke nodes.
Any ideas on what to look for?  The program runs fine in the development environment (run on the same PC as the EXE).

The only thing that option should do for you is to replace the type defs with equivelent non-typed version and toss all of the polymorphic versions that are not used.
So if I focus on the replacing type defs part...
That process may have resulted in the defaults of your controls be lost so if any of your typedef'd controls have a large or bogus default value, then not removing them MAY preserve the default data. If the replaced version have empty default data then they may be able to run more efficiently.
Yes all of that is wild specualtion!
So you could check your code for non-empty default data...

  • Adobe Premiere running slow

I've migrated from an 08 MacPro, running 10.6.8 with 6 Gb of RAM onto a MacMini i7 running 10.8.3 with 8GB of RAM.  Benchmark, the processor is supposed to be about 2.5 times faster than the MacPro.  Obviously I have more and faster RAM.
I'm running not only the same CS6 software, but the same CS6 Premiere project that has been shortened.  All the material is on the exact same drives (all Seagate BackupPlus USB 3.0 drives), through the same external hub.  It was only USB 2.0 on the MacPro, a few of the drives, the ones with the most content, are coming in on USB 3.0 to the Mini.   Exporting what was an hour long project to export on the MacPro has turned into a 6 hour ordeal, slowly creeping up one percent every few minutes.  At 82%, its too far along to quit and yet its too slow to be functional in the long term.  But it gives me time to write on a different computer.
On this Mini, I have experienced drives going to sleep, even though I have the instructions in Energy Saver set to never go to sleep.  I even have installed "KeepDriveSpinning" yet I still hear the drives going to sleep and occasionally waking up.  I don't know why, or how.  Maybe that is the problem.  I've had lots of spinning beachballs.  I've relaunched the Finder several times, each time seems to add an additional percent to the total and shortens the ETA.  Problem is the ETA has been less than an hour for over 3 hours.
No other programs are running.  Internet is off.  On the Mac Pro, I used to have several big programs running.  It would only have problems when I did an export
But under controlled conditions, the only two things I can think of that are different are the computer; the Mac Mini supposedly being better; and the OS on that computer, 10.8 vs 10.6
I've found the https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521 article.  I'll try to figure out those tests afterI get this render done, sometime in the wee hours of the morning at this rate.

Nothing "Green" about them.  PN:  1DXAN5-570
By the way, it did take 9 hours to complete the 1 hour job described above.  Restarted a couple of times, but every step, even looking at the Utilities folder above, that involves a hard drive happens in slow motion.  It took almost 30 seconds for the various Application icons to reveal after opening the Utilities folder.  I've never seen a Mac so slow doing that basic function.  And this thing is brand new.

  • No Adobe Program run

I´m using Photoshop 5.1 and Indesign 5.5 on my Mac. Since Yesterday both programs
    did not starting.
I uninstalled the applications, installed them again with my serial numbers,
but nothing happens. Still the same problem: Nothing goes on, when clicking
    on the program Icons.
I downloaded a trial version of Illustrator 6 and can´t run the programm.
    The same problem.
Only Adobe Bridge and Adobe encoder runs.
    What can I do?

    Hi
Please try deleting the preferences for both software
Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop/Indesign. It will ask you to delete the current Preference/Settings.
try launching the product to see whether it is working or not.
If the above step doesn't work
Try creating another Admin Account and launch the programs.
    Thanks

  • How to get Adobe programs running?

I am running Adobe CC on a Windows 7 machine, 64bit. The machine has registry software (PC Mechanic) and McAfee antivirus. I have 8 gigs of RAM and a dual core CPU. When I run Adobe, I tend to also have a web browser like Opera running in the background. Windows is used exclusively for Adobe software. I have frequent issues with Adobe programs, like Dreamweaver or Photoshop not being able to launch. Or getting errors like "internal signature error". I have called Adobe technical support, who logged onto my computer several times, but their technicians are consistently stumped. Collegues suggested I simply uninstall and reinstall the software. That worked at first, now the programs will no longer launch---even if reinstalled.
Adobe seems unable (or perhaps just unwilling to help). It is suggested that Adobe simply cannot work on the Windows operating system. Rather, the programs are made for MAC computers, not Windows.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get Adobe CC to run on Windows 7?

    Hi Ikhider,
I am running Adobe CC products on a Windows 7 64-bit system too. I also use McAfee anti-virus software as well.
For troubleshooting I would try first shutting down everything running in the background not required by right-clicking on the icons in the system tray and choosing quit or exit.
When launching the Adobe apps try right clicking on the icons and choosing Run As Administrator and see if that makes any difference
The Resolve product launch freezes or problems section of this document might help:

  • Adobe flashplayer running slow on Talk Talk home page. Works OK if I switch to Internet Explorer.

Talktalk homepage becomes slow to respond and generates a message stating that Adobe flash player being made to run slow by some content. Works OK if I switch to Internet explorer as suggested by Talk talk technical.

I have stated what I was able to glean from the report. If you disagree so be it.
I will say that I heard the same comment numerous times in the past of years of usage without problems. Only to have them tell me later oh by the way I removed the code that you suggested I should remove and the performance increased.
As I said it is your Mac and you can do with it as you wish. I am just trying to help you solve your problem.

  • Missing Header Row When Exporting Data to Excel and Program Runs Slow

    Hello all,
I am new to programming. I’ve dabbled with VB.NET at times over the years but this is the first time I’m trying C#. Although, it’s been quite a while since I’ve done any type of programming other than writing SQL queries at work. For the sake of trying to
learn I have given myself a project that is something I can actually use at work. Right now I'm doing it at home. I’m querying a database on SQL Server 2008 R2; putting the data from the DB into a DataViewGrid and then exporting the data into Excel and saving
the file on my C:\ drive. On the form I have two buttons; one that queries the DB and the other to do the export. The code below does work but I have two issues that I need assistance with:
All of the SQL table data goes into Excel properly with the exception of it is missing the header row.
After I click the Export button it takes a long time to create the Excel file. It takes between 2.5 and 3 minutes. It is not a big file (only 447 rows and 125 KB in size) so I don’t know why it takes so long. Does it have anything to do with the number
of times Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel is being referenced? I read somewhere online that is an old COM method although I’m not familiar with what a COM method is
and why it would make things run so slow.
When I click the button to run the SQL query and load the DataGridView it runs immediately.
I plan on taking this project further such as adding date parameters including validation on the dates and then maybe adding buttons that can be used to insert, update and delete records. But I don’t want to go any further until the two issues mentioned
above are resolved. Any assistance / guidance will be greatly appreciated. Here’s the code:

  • HP ProBook 4540s slow to boot up, all programs run slow, long delay, show non-responding messages

    Hello,
I have a HP ProBook 4540s  running windows 7  (desktop shows:  Test Mode  Windows 7 build 7601)
    The HDD is a Toshiba mk5061gsyn 500gb
For the last month or so the computer has been running very slow.  The computer has always booted/start windows a bit slowly.    Now it takes about 3-5minutes to get to the welcome screen then it takes a couple of minutes to load windows. Soluto shows all the programs that are being loaded on startup.  (I never messed with this).  I've run several antivirus programs and the system is clean.   Back in June I had the same problem but there was malware found, not this time.
I ran speccy and it shows "warning" under the S.M.A.R.T  section.    I used the HP system tools and ran the HDD test and no errors were found.    When I tried using the HDD test from Toshiba and I couldn't run the scan test, it only showed the model name and serial #.
I'm not sure what to do next?
Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Adding Forms to .PDF with layers - program runs slow

    Hello:
I am using Acrobat Professional 9.2.0
I am working on converting an AutoCAD drawing to a PDF file.
I created the .PDF drawing through the File, Create PDF, From File.
The file created correctly and properly created the different layers of the AutoCAD drawing.
Here's where the issue is ...
When I attempt to insert form fields through the "add or edit fields" option, it is taking a long time.  For example, I'll draw a text box, and the program will hang showing  the "hour glass" for 13 to 15 seconds before I can draw the next box.
This doesn't happen on a .PDF with no layers, or if I flatten the layers, it doesn't happen, so I am convinced it has to do with the layers.
I have duplicated this on a Windows XP and Windows 7 (32 bit versions)
Anyone know why?  Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!

But there is test with the title of the object type I can't seem to get rid of.
This should read - "But there is TEXT..."
The title of the object type is the object type as called by Adobe LiveCycle.

  • Oracle/VB program runs slow then fast

We have a version 13 application (running now with lots of data)that we want to upgrade to version 17. Both are Visual Basic/Oracle aps.
Because the layout is different between the two database's we wrote a long script to pour into the version 17 structure the version 13 data. We have to turn off all constraints.
Version 17 runs but reports run very very slow.
Just by chance we did a backup "dump" of the version 17 database. Then we just happend to take this dump to another machine, imported the data and ran version 17. It runs fast again.
    What gives? Any ideas
    my e-mail [email protected]

Sounds like the first machine has a bad environment (are the two machines running on the same type/speed of processors ?). Re-installing the software might help in this matter.
    Sorry I can't be more specific !

  • Why does every browser run slow when I am doing something moderately hardware intensive in the background?

I have looked but I don't even really know what to call this. But I can reproduce it everytime without fail and I don't understand.
    Steps to Reporduce
Load up Safari (or chrome, whatever it doesn't matter, those two browsers have the excat same problem)
Do some browsing. Not much just check your email or something (doesn't matter what you do)
Run a application that uses some CPU. (Go play a game, or run handbreak, open parallells, anything that causes a bit of load)
Go back to the browser and try to browse. Everything is dog slow and unsuable.
Exit the application (just showing that the app was running while slow browsing)
Browse sites at normal speed again
    Intresting facts
I have been dealing with this for a while. So I have discovered a few things before posting here
There is plenty of free RAM both Inactive and Unused in Activity monitor is over 1G (I have 8G total)
There is plenty of CPU "room". Nither core is anywhere near 100%
The goal is under moderate load, so overloading the computer and trying is not what is happening.
    nice-ing proccesses has no effect
I notice it most when running games, but it happens at other times too, games are just one of the few things that put any load on this mac.
Other programs work fine. I have never noticed anyother program running slow ever when this is occuring. This includes programs that include the webkit controll, oddly. Though, to be fair, that may not be accurate as I don't experance that as often.
I have verified disk (everything is fine)
I have verified permissions (and repaired them, everything is fine)
Disk and permissions don't seem to have any effect.
Network traffic does not seem slow, I can transfer files at the same rate when the browsers are slow, or when theyre runnning fine.
There is no odd hardware plugged in. I have 1 external USB disk that is always plugged in for timemachine and thats it (thoughI have unplugged that with no effect, and I have added other hardware with no effect)
The websites/pages/browsers seem to run at a normal speed if you don't have them as the active window. Really hard to say if it's just perception cause I am not watching them, or if there is an actuall effect.
The site being browsed doesn't seem to matter. Any site regaurdless of complexity seems to be effected. It could be Javascript related though that is really hard to tell, but browsing sites without any javascript or even from the local hardrive (test pages with no JS) still take a very long time to load.
Average page load time is 15-30 seconds during which the whole browser is unresponcive.
I am mostly talking about safari here as that is what I would really like to use, but chrome has basically the same effect. For this question I am sticking with fixing safari though.
    What I am looking for:
    A fix would be nice
But I would settle for an explaniation that I can accept.
I am running a MBP 17" with 8 gigs of ram and the 2.53 GHZ i5 processor. I am fully up to date with both Lion and Safari.

Also would like to say DNS resolution is not the problem. I do not use my ISPs DNS servers. I use Google's public DNS servers and a in house caching DNS. DNS resolution is fine, outside the browser and the pages are getting "stuck" while loading not while transfering, or resolving.

  • Is illustrator running slow because of large file size?

Is my illustrator running slow? I have an i7 3770K, 16gb ram, gtx 660i 2g, h100i, ax1200i and maximus formula v. I'm running dual 24" 1920x1080 monitors. File size is 800x600 pixals with 5 layers and 100+ paths in each layer. Is the program running slow because the file is too big or is there a problem with illustrator?

If you have a internal HD available, you can select it as a scratch disk...
the above dialog is from CS3, but you have something similar in your Preferences file.
If you are running out of disk space, then there's not enough scratch to perform certain ops efficiently and it could slow things down considerably.  Just a thought.

  • My Mac won't Shut Down and is running Slow

It began with my Mac not shutting down or restarting.  The shutdown process will end with a white screan and the thinking icon in the center.
Slowly, over a few weeks, the comuter began running slowly.  Now my apps seem to be freezing on me often.  iPhoto, Aperature, & Light Room have all frozen on me at some point.  Other programs run slow.
Do I have a hardware problem?
    A Virus?

First question is how much free disk space do you have?  Generally, around 10%+ is needed for OS X usage.
While you may not have spinning beach balls, see these two FAQs for things to check:

  • Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder running slow

    Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble with CS4, which is running significantly slower than CS3 did on a older machine. The CS4 suite is installed on a Dell Precision M6400:
    Windows Vista 64-Bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53 GHz
    8 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M Graphics with 512MB dedicated memory
The OS is running on a 57.5 GB HD (C:) and the Adobe suite is installed on a 298 GB Solid State HD (D:), except for Adobe Media Encoder, which is installed on the C: drive.
My project has 4 15-16 minute sequences. The sequences are in DV NTSC, 29.97 fps,  My scratch disks are set to a folder on the C: drive. Media Cache Files and the Media Cache Database points to a folder on the D: drive.
These are some of the problems I'm having:
    - Premiere Pro CS4 generates peak files every time I open a project
    - It then takes 3-5 minutes to render before I can preview a 16-minute sequence
    - Adobe Media Encoder takes 5 hours to render a 16-minute sequence (as flv) that has been previously rendered
    - AME takes 1 hour to render every 15 minute sequence that has never been rendered before
Are my settings affecting their performance? Is there any way to improve it? Thanks.
(Premiere Pro is the only app that is slow)

The data rate for replay is one thing, the data rate from disk to memory then from memory to CPU and back the other way are different matters and ought not to be confused. It is well-established that for a computer to edit AVCHD you need top end components, and note that I said there were three tasks to distinquish with increasing hardware requirements, namely merely replaying the video, specifying edits in the editor and then the rendering. It is commonly accepted by all the industry vendors that to do remotely commercial AVCHD rendering you need a minimum Quadcore CPU then that eats data fast, in order to not let it go to waste you need a fast motherboard bus fast memory and in order for none of those to go to waste you need the fastest disk set-up you can manage. I in fact have a 4-disk RAID0 volume using SATA (I think the disk model is SATAII but I have to await return from the repair center before I can confirm). For this RAID0 volume I have run speed test software from BlackMagic because I have one of their HDTV capture cards. It recorded that this volume which remember is doing parallelised IO is just fast enough to receive a encoded HDTV stream from the BlackMagic card but too slow to receive an uncompressed HDTV stream, indeed when I tried both I found the volume did keep up with compressed but fell behind with uncompressed. Remember that with a RAID0 volume of 4 SATAII disks a given file gets spread over the four disks and hence IO is spread over those 4 3G/s data lanes. Also remember with these disks 3G/s is just a burst speed, for AVCHD we are interested in sustained serial IO which is much less.
Before my machine broke down, I found that it took 5 hours to render 33 minutes of HDTV albeit as it went along it transcoded from AVCHD to a Microsoft HD format for Vista-only. Another interesting thing is that I found that the longer this render ran the slower it became, the estimated time started at 3 hours but the actual was five and the last one third took maybe 3 hours. Because the machine broke after that run I couldn't figure the bottleneck. For my machine bear in mind that at the repair shop we found that the Quadcore had only half the necessary electrical power plugged in, the monitor software showed however that it constantly ran around 90% of whatever capacity that reduced power supply permitted. Now then we can puzzle over why it got slower and slower and yet CPU consumption remained consistent and near to full capacity, memory was not the bottleneck because that was constant at 6.4G. But you can say that this was maybe performing like a Dualcore and was hitting some sort of wall, if you had a 1 hour render with that rate of degeneration of performance factored in what would happen to the render time, and for 3 hours you could be running indefinitely. I hope when the machine comes back the correct power supply will make it behave like a Quadcore should for this type of application. Anyway I have two theories for the degradation. First is just that PrProCS4 was getting its knickers in a twist and thereby just doing more computation per minute of video to be rendered as time went by, maybe internal resource management related to OO-type programming maybe, or related to disk IO falling behind, both these theories have problems, for the latter the CPU usage should then have dropped also.
Anyways, you need really a Quadcore system and blazing fast disk to work fully with AVCHD commercially, we found an external SATAII disk so if I were you I would just go get one and move on with your life.

For AVCHD you MUST have FAST disks.
AVCHD actually has a lower data date than DV. You need lots of CPU muscle, but disk speed is really not a factor specific to AVCHD. Anything that works for DV will work just as well for AVCHD (and HDV as well).
