Adobe quicktime flash plug-in won't stay plugged in

I have installed and re-installed the adobe quicktime flash plug-in for powerPC based macs several times over the past few weeks. Each time the plugin works for about one or two surfs on the internet then the little "Q-?" symbol appears again only to my great frustration. This seems to happen at the same time in both firefox and safari. Any suggestions about what to do? I tried repairing permissions and restarting after install. Thanks. Erin

DonaSuerte,
Apple Discussions!
Try the following:
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
This tells the browser not to to display Flash Media and lets the newly installed Adobe software work its magic.
==================
If the above thread doesn't help, try this...
Last but not least: Thanks to QuickTimeKirk........
Quit QuickTime.
Open User (Home)/Library/Preferences and delete any .plist file with QuickTime in its name. Don't worry as a new one will be created.
Open System Preferences/QuickTime and see if the window and tabs work as they should.

  • No media shown in Safari (Quicktime, Flash, etc. just won't show!!)

About a few days ago I noticed that any website with flash, quicktime (incl. WMV Player) media just won't show! There is no controller, even when I open the movie directly in Safari. I reinstalled Flash, for example, and still nothing works. But, I know this is isolated to Safari, because flash and quicktime work in all my other browsers such as Camino, Firefox, and Opera.
Can someone please help me find a way to fix this? It's really getting on my nerves because no flash or quicktime-enabled site works anymore!

Yes- I just checked, and plug-ins were disabled. I enabled them, restarted, and they still wouldn't display because Safari didn't even change the preference (it was left unchecked). I simply trashed my Safari plist and voila! It works.
    Thank you very much.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 - It won't stay open

My Adoble Photoshop Elements 11 will not stay open when I open it. A window pops up saying that Adobe Photoshop has stopped working and needs to close. I don't know why it's closing. Windows checks for  a solution, then says that a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. It will close the program and notify me if they come up with a solution for the problem. I don't know why it does that or what's wrong. I don't want to have to restart my computer to open Photoshop everytime. What is wrong?

Try making a direct shortcut for the Organizer and Editor. You can then launch the programs directly from the desktop bypassing the welcome screen. This is generally better as the welcome screen leaves background processes running.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
Then make a direct shortcut for the Editor in a similar manner.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
    "C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
N.B. navigate to Program Files on 32 bit systems.
To launch, try right-clicking on the new desktop icons and choose “Run As Administrator” which often improves stability.

  • AC won't stay plugged in

A few months ago, my power cord stopped working correctly. I have to jiggle it before I get the green/orange light and many times the only way for it to stay lighted is to put a heavy book on top of the plug. I know this pressure cannot be good for the computer, but I don't know what else to do. I have tried other AC adapters (I have two adapters and the same problem with both) and have tried other people's adapters and experienced the same problem, and when other people use mine they don't experience this problem. It is clearly an internal problem with the computer...
As a student who uses my laptop for classes everyday and about to enter exams, I cannot sacrifice my computer to send it in for repairs at this time. I am desperate for suggestions because this is driving me crazy.
If anyone has advice I will be greatly appreciative!
    Thanks

I think the trick is to bend the pin without bending the metal sleeve around the pin (as that will make it a lot harder to get it in and out). These things are pretty strong. I deformed a plug when my iBook fell (I don't recall why that happened, really…). It was virtually impossible to get the sleeve back into shape.
If you can put pressure on the pin alone without putting stress on the sleeve…
If it breaks or becomes unusable, you'd need to buy a new adapter (sigh that brand new adapter is the one that got bent). Other solutions would involve buying an external charger & another battery to swap…

  • The cord to my Airport won't stay plugged in. It just falls out, and I can't get a connection. Should I just order a new cord, or is there another problem?

What can I do to get a new cord for my Airport/Time Capsule? The cord keeps falling out of my Airport device. When it was loose, I could sometimes adjust it & get wireless service again. Now I cannot get a light to come on at all so no wireless service. The cord does not feel like it is connecting when I try to plug it in, and it just falls to the floor. I would really appreciate help. I miss my wireless!

I don't take offense. The TK isn't new, but had been sitting stationary before a recent move. My son moved it during a visit, then I noticed that the cord kept falling out. I tried several times to reinsert it, but apparently I was too cautious and didn't get it pushed in all of the way.
With your information that it should be a tight fit, I was more aggressive in pushing it in, and it did attach this time. The light is green again. Thank you very much!

  • 13 Macbook Pro the ethernet cord won't stay plugged in.

My ethernet plug will not clip in. I plugs in and it works, but it will just slide out on its own. It doesn't click in. I have tried different cables and it doesn't make any differences. I have look at the female part of the plug and it doesn't appear that their is anything wrong with it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I can verify that there is nothing wrong with the ethernet cable, as it "clips in" fine in 3 other computers that I own. Even the slightest movement dislodges the cable. I have tried several different cables, even buying an expensive cable with a premium jack, all to the same result. I believe this is a product defect, but as it's the only Macbook Pro that I own, I don't know if it's something with product design. This is a brand new 13" mid 2012 Macbook Pro.

  • My Adobe Flash Player won't stay installed.

Flash player just WON'T stay install.  This has been happening for a while, but today alone I've had to re-install it 10 times.  After about an hour or less everything just says "Plug-in Failure".  I'm not sure what's happening...how do I fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Computer won't charge - plug won't work!

The portable charger for by iBook (meaning the white box charger) used to be able to plug in anywhere and work even when upside down. Now its hanging out, won't charge, etc unless it is held in all the way the entire time. It does however work when I use the attachement.
Has anyone else had this problem? It's quite annoying to have to push in the plug for the entirety of class with my knee.
    Ibook G4

Do you mean it won't stay plugged into the iBook, or it won't stay plugged into the wall outlet?
It sounds like you need to replace the adapter.
There are third party choices for an adapter:
    MCE Technologies
    http://www.madsonline.com/index.html?
    MacAlly adapter at Amazon.com
    adapter at Other World Computing
Apple's is the only one with the glowing ring to indicate charging status, though, and can be found here:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M89 43LL/A
I believe the one from Other World Computing is one of the sturdiest of the lot. The MacAlly adapter's cord is a bit flimsier than the one from Other World Computing, but both are working fine on our iBooks. We haven't tried the pricier ones.

  • Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I keep getting "blocked plug-in" messages. Adobe Flash player update won't upload. Suggestions?

Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I keep getting "blocked plug-in" messages. Adobe Flash player update won't upload. Suggestions?

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser, but check this also:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5655?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US  which also covers ‘blocked plug-in’.

  • I have Dreamweaver CS5 with Windows 8 and it won't stay connected to the server and it says I need flash plug in, please help

I have a Gateway computer with Windows 8 installed.  I have installed Dreamweaver CS5 to manage my website and it won't stay connected to the server.  It also won't play flash and says I need a flash plug in.  Please help

#1  Try toggling Passive FTP on/off in your remote server's site definition.
#2 Except for a handful of gaming sites, Flash is a dead web technology.  It's not supported by iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android, etc...  I don't recommend using Flash for anything these days.  Better to use HTML5, CSS level 3 and JavaScript.

  • I have Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Flash Player 13 Plug-in won't allow me to watch YouTube videos

Up until last week I had IE9 and was able to download and watch YouTube videos with my son and play Facebook games.  Then one evening I tried to pull up a Yo Gabba Gabba video on YouTube and the video window was blank.  I had watched this video the night before with him, and the only thing I can think of is there was a Flash Player update that tried to download.  I saw several posts that suggested downloading a new broswer, but I waited for 3 nights thinking it was just a glitch.  I finally gave up and sent a pm to one of my friends who is a Internet Service Technician.  She told me to download Mozilla Firefox, which I did, and the problem seemed to be solved.  I was once again able to download and watch YouTube videos, as well as play games on Facebook.  And it seemed my pages, pictures, etc. all downloaded 10x faster.  That worked until the next evening and suddenly I once again could not download and watch YouTube videos.
I checked my system and it found that Adobe had done an automatic update so that instead of just having Adobe Flash Player 13 Active X I now had Adobe Flash Player 13 plug-in.  I also noticed that Adobe Air was downloaded on my computer.  I went in and uninstalled the Adobe Flash Player 13 Plug-in and I was once again able to download and watch YouTube videos.  But when I tried to play games on Facebook I was told I would need to install at least Adobe Flash Player 10.0.2.  I went to find that or an older version but each time I tried to download from Adobe I would get the Adobe Flash Player 13 Plug-in version, and once again I was unable to download and watch YouTube videos.  I was, however, able to play the games on Facebook again.
Remember when I just had Adobe Flash Player 13 Active X I was able to do both while having Mozilla Firefox.  I have looked all over the internet and I cannot find recent articles that talk about this problem.  Can someone please tell me what I can do so that I can keep Mozilla Firefox, as it is 10X faster than IE9 and with Firefox my Facebook doesn't crash all of the time?  But I also want to have the ability to download and watch YouTube videos with my son, as well as the play games on Facebook.
I should also note each time I went to uninstall Adobe Flash Player 13 Plug-in I received an error message saying there was a conflict with Mozilla Firefox and I first had to shut it down before the uninstall would proceed.  Also, I received a reply on Adobe's Facebook page from a Tech who had me check to see if I had the latest version of Flash Player.  I did have the most recent version.  He then asked me to go to my add-ons and enable Shockwave.  I followed the instructions and it was already enabled (or it said always activate).  Neither of those helped me be able to download and watch YouTube videos.  But I can still play Facebook games.

What is your current Flash Player version: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html ?
What is your display adapter, driver version & date?  See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • Adobe flash player 2014 won't install on Mountain Lion

Suddenly last week flash player stopped working on my MacBook Pro - Mountain Lion.  I tried downloading the new version but it kept timing out and ending with an error message.  Even when I unlocked my my security settings to allow downloads from anywhere.  I was able to download some version of Adobe Flashplayer via an alternate site - softpedia, but only some videos  will work with that and with others I continue to get the alert to upgrade.  I tried calling Apple, but of course they wanted me to pay to have them help me solve what is essentially THEIR problem as I see it.  Only as a last resort.
    C.

I've have this problem come and go, and come back again.
FIX: The best fix so far for me is to go back to Flash Version 13. The say Flash Player Version 13 is in "extended release". I am on Mac osx 10.7.5 the last version of mac operating system for my machine.
Find it here: for browsers, it may have the strange name "plug in content debugger", I think the word "plug in" matters for browsers. The other "projector" versions I don't know about. The "plug in debugger version 13" fixed my safari problems.
    https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Fix 2: You must disregard the constant signaling to update to version 15 if you are getting it. The update to version 15 may load a broken version in the browser, then you have to uninstall it with their special utility and reinstall version 13. Get the uninstall download here (or search for adobe flash uninstall on the web):
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html#main_u ninstall
More Possible Explanation: Apparently the weird name "debugger" means they have debugged common problems with it. Essentially you are going back to the previous version since the new one has problems loading/working (keeps getting identified as out-of-date so it won't work) but they don't want to pull the new version off the market, can you imagine that mess. Thanks Adobe for the extended release we depend on it!
Here is adobe's comment on it:
EXTENDED SUPPORT RELEASE - FLASH PLAYER
What is the extended support release?
Adobe makes available a version of Flash Player called the "Extended Support Release" (ESR) to organizations that prefer Flash Player stability over new functionality. We have created a branch of the Flash Player code that we keep up to date with all of the latest security updates, but none of the new features or bug fixes available in our current release branch. This allows organizations to certify and stay secure on Flash Player with minimal effort.
10/14/2014 - Updated debugger and standalone versions of Flash Player. These players contain fixes for critical vulnerabilities identified in Security Bulletin APSB14-22. The latest version is 13.0.0.250 (Win and Mac). All users are encouraged to update to these latest versions.

  • Why won't Quicktime 7.2 work even after installing plug-ins?

After initially installing Quicktime 7.2, a faint question mark would appear instead of internet videos which required quicktime. I installed one kind of plug-in, but this only fixed it for a little while. Then I installed a bunch of other plug-ins hoping that this would fix it but it only fixed it for a while as before. How do I resolve this problem? I have a mac and mac osx 10.4.10 and use Firefox for internet browsing. And, how do I even tell where my plug-ins are? Thanks!

    Apple Discussions!
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
    Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
This tells the browser not to to display Flash Media and lets the newly installed Adobe software work its magic.
"And, how do I even tell where my plug-ins are?"
If you actually know the names of the plug-ins, you can use Spotlight to locate or you can manually check the following folders:
    HD>Library>Internet Plug-Ins
    Home>Library>Internet Plug-Ins
    HD>Library>QuickTime

Aperture import plug-in won't run.  After examining my library the number of image files stays at "undetermined" and the import button stays greyed out.  Any thoughts?

Others have the same issue, with the import button being grayed out.  My trail copy expired, but I believe by poking around in the options and selecting another Aperture library and re-selecting, I was able to continue.
The problem is common enough, that hopefully Adobe will address.  In the mean time, try repairing your Aperture library, checking permissions, exporting a subset of your library for a test, or try putting that library subset on an external drive.  (Can usually avoid permissions issues.)

  • Mozila Firefox is always asking me to click to activate and use plug-ins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Youtube videos and other plug-ins which it never did before.

I am using Mozilla Firefox and it is now bugging me. After updating it, it is now asking me to always click to activate and use plug-ins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Youtube videosand other plug-ins. I click on activiate all plug-ins but it still asks me to do it each time that I try to use Flash, Adobe Reader, watch a You Tube Video or anything. Why won't Mozilla Firefox automatically actaivate the plug-ins like it used to do. I tried to follow directions on our website for fixing this but it did not work. I am running
Windows XP. Please let me know how to fix this. Thank you.

In the past, to protect you from [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-plugins-play-audio-video-games plugins] that have stability or security issues, Firefox could only turn off the problematic plugin. Now Firefox can prevent the plugin from running automatically (which prevents many issues) and then let you choose to run or update the plugin. See [[Why do I have to click to activate plugins?]] for more info.
If you'd like to Disable Firefox's Click-to-Play feature,
    # Type ''about:config'' in the address bar and press Enter.
    # Press the big button to bypass the warning.
    # In the search box, paste ''plugins.click_to_play''
    # In the search results, double-click ''plugins.click_to_play'' to set its value to '''false'''
