  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (admplugin.apl) crash when opening PDF files

    Hi,
I did spend some time today trying to get Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to run on a Citrix Access Essential 2.0 server.
    Setup
    Server OS:
    Windows Server 2003 SP2 - fully patched.
    Other software:
    Office 2003 Standard, Danish, SP3
    Symantec Antivirus 10.1
    Adobe Reader 8.1.2, Danish
The installation is clean (1 week old).
    Problem description:
When opening PDF files, Adobe Reader crashes before showing any content from the PDF file. The module crashing is admplugin.apl.
    Work-arounds tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (DK).
    Disabling Antivirus (service stopped)
Replacing admplugin.apl with admplugin.apl from Adobe Reader 8.0
Uninstalling DK version and installing US version.
Adding user to local Administrators to exclude any permission related problems.
Deleting Adobe folders from users profile Application Data\Adobe\... and Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\...
    Turn DEP off
    Solution:
Finally I gave up and installed 7.0.9 (Danish). It works as expected.
It seems that the problem is known and a few user has reported this. One Adobe KB article mentions the problem, and the solution is to disable some 3. party diagnostic/support tools provided by DSL providers. This is definitively not the issue in this installation.
Anybody from Adobe having any input to this problem?
    Best regards from Denmark!

    Hi,
I am having a similar issue with Ver 8.1.2 running over cirtix with a similar setup to Jans-Peter.
The difference is that Reader opens fine but when you try to edit preferences it crashes.
This only happens on an citrix session. If I run reader on the server directly it works OK.
However after reading above I can replicate the problem on the server by moving or deleting the ADMPlugin.apl file.
    Any further ideas at all?

My computer is infected with Adware.  I deleted Adobe Reader thinking it might have the adware in it.  Since the problem started the same day as Adobe Reader was installed.  Reader wasn't the problem.  So how do I get Reader reinstalled?

  • Adobe Reader 9.5.1 on Linux crashes every second time I try to print

    I can print perfectly.
But if Adobe Reader stays open, and I try to print the same document a second time, or I try to print another document: In the moment I click on the Ok button in the print dialog, Adobe Reader crashes (window disappears) and nothing is printed.
I have Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and cups 1.4.8.
(Because I have cups 1.4.8 I don't think my problem is related to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/691846).

I have the exact same problem with Adobe Reader 9.5.1 on Linux, gentoo build from sources of course, and the second time I try to print, or try to open a file or save, it means the second time you try to open a dialog that has something to do with system, it crashes...
It can be reproducible on other distributions.
    :s
I will not patch anything, but alternatives does not work as expected, also embedded into firefox has the same behaviour, and when it crashes you can not open any other pdf until you restart firefox and plugin reloads again...

  • Adobe Reader X is not stable, it crashes on both of my computers

I have installed the Adobe Reader X a few days ago. yesterday, after reading a pdf book for a few hours, the Adobe Reader was not responding when I press the next page keyboard key. On the screen, those pages after the current page shows as a little white page.
On the windows 2003 server, I was able to use the task manager to kill the Adobe Reader; however, I can't open any pdf anymore after I re-start the Adobe reader.it prompts "There was an error opening this document. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service". I open the task manager and check, there is 1.6GB free memory and the CPU usage is only 0-6%. As the ebook is only 3MB. I don't believe there is insufficient resource.
The same thing happened on my Windows XP SP3 PC; however, the Adobe Reader is not responding. I was unable to kill it. I have to reboot the PC.
Does anyone come across this situation? Do you know how to fix it?

I'm having a similar problem, everytime I launch reader or if I try to open a PDF it crashes on my winxp sp3 PC with a visual c++ runtime error and closes. I can't even get to any preferences or anything in time.

  • Desktop Manager 6.1.0b034 crashes w/ Bold 9900 since yesterday

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to ask for your assistance in finding the source of my problem here.
I'm sitting on a Win XP SP2 Machine with above mentioned DM installed.
Everything (synching Lotus Notes calendar and my phonebook) worked absolutely well until yesterday.
Now, whenever I hook up the phone the DM will crash after trying to connecting to the device.
When the phone is disconnected it starts up fine and I can navigate all areas. Once the phone is connected, it'll try to connect and then simply close.
Any ideas, suggestions on how to procede (log files etc)? I already reinstalled DM twice.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Adobe Reader X/10 - continued crash problems trying to save PDFs

    Dear all,
I wonder if anyone can help me.... I have been having ongoing problems when trying to save PDF documents online while using the downloaded Adobe Reader 10 or X version. It always crashes/freezers when I press the 'save' button in the 'save as' dialogue box. I have to use end program and start all over again.
I use Windows XP (Professional, Service Pack 3) and both Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1 and IE 8 web browsers. I have followed the links suggested to prevent in future after the problem has been reported - I have unstalled and reinstalled Reader a few times now, as well as checked that I have been using the most up to date version of Reader 10 or X. Then reopened everything again thinking it's solved and then crash (ARGH!). Has anyone else had similar issues?
This is most frustrating to say the least, not withstanding the time delays affecting work outputs when the system crashes on the 'save as' dialogue box (after pressing save). I have lost faith in Adobe now ... I used to consider the free download of Reader a great asset, now it is a true annoyance and may or may not work entirely.
Any help or advice would be great, even alternative PDF software.
    Many thanks in advance
    Ruth

The response from 370H55V is correct in theory and in actual fact was very close to the solution, but the response was more cryptic than helpful. I first encountered this yesterday after upgrading users on a Terminal Server from Reader v8 to v9. My first instinct was to upgrade to v10, which I did, but the problem still existed, so I rolled back to v8 and the issue was resolved. Unfortunately however this was not a solution and it was a requirement that we upgraded to at least v9. The error was as described that in IE 8 when a PDF file was opened inside the browser(or embedded as some might say), and you press SAVE (or even sometimes print) within the adobe reader toolbar, IE would flicker and crash on the page and then recover the page, saying this page has been recovered, but no saving would happen. This would happen if protection was turned off in Adobe Reader, and if it was on (default), then pressing SAVE would just make IE freeze as previously reported.
So to understand what was happening, I ran FILEMON and REGMON by SYSINTERNALS. Regmon showed nothing of significance. Filemon showed a lot more. It was getting an access denied error on c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll. There was no reason for this however because the permissions on this file allow all users to read and execute. But then I remembered what shell32.dll does. It brings up the SAVE AS dialog box that allows you select the path of where to save the file – essentially this is calling the shell of explorer.exe.
So this is actually the cause of the crash. When Adobe Reader makes the call to the SAVE AS dialog box – CRASH!!!!! Why???
Well it’s quite simple. The default location that the SAVE AS dialog box starts in is MY Documents and this is where to start looking for the source of the error. To find out were “my documents” is for your session, open REGEDIT and go to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Look for the key: PERSONAL and in it is a REG_SZ containing the path to “my documents” for the current user. This is generally something like C:\documents and settings\<username>\My Documents on Windows XP/2003 and something like C:\Users\<username>\Documents on Win7/ 2008.
Now in our case the setting for this key was U:\ which was a mapped network drive to the path: \\server\username\mydocs. U:\ did exist and the user had full permission to it. So I changed the path on the personal key to C:\documents and settings\<username>\My Documents – the default setting. I went back to IE, opened a PDF document from a website, viewed the file and then pressed SAVE on the adobe toolbar. BINGO BABY!!!! Worked perfectly.
But again this was not a solution because in a network, you need your users to have their “my documents” in their own home drive, which is generally located on a remote share on a server. So I put the PERSONAL setting in the registry back to U:\ and crash back to square one. I then put the path of the U:\ in the key instead of just U: drive, so PERSONAL now had a REG_SZ value of \\server\username\mydocs. Went out to IE again, launched a PDF, pressed SAVE. BINGO BABY!! It worked. So clearly this was a UNC Path resolution issue or something similar, but why did it only happen from v9 of Adobe Reader and whose fault is it – Microsoft or Adobe. Well I suspect both. I suspect that Adobe maybe making a weak Shell call in their code which doesn’t resolve the path properly, and a possible bug in the MS Shell call may be adding to this issue.
Anyway, I did some further testing for some fun. I took permissions away from the user to their “My documents” folder and was also able to replicate the same crash. I set the PERSONAL registry key to a folder that didn’t exist and same crash. So basically if the SAVE AS shell call can’t resolve or access the path as set in the PERSONAL key the you will get this crash.
The way I solved it for the network users, was to set the registry key for PERSONAL to \\server\username\mydocs via Group Policy, also a logon script may also work. Additionally you could use Folder Redirection in Group Policy to set the path for MY Documents on a per user basis. This also was tested and work.
For non-network users check the PERSONAL key and get the path and then find that path and check permissions etc. Replace it with the default location or even point it to a path that you know exists and has full access.
As a final tip, also look at the registry Key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
And find the PERSONAL path. It will be something like %USERPROFILE%\my documents in XP/2003 and %USERPROFILE%\Documents in Win7/2008. This is the default location and if the PERSONAL KEY does not exist in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders then windows reverts back to the User Shell Folders key to get the path. It is a good idea to check that path in this area as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Reader 11.2.1 still crashing

We are still having crash issues with Adobe 11.2.1. We are using Android 4.3 operating system. We have been using the same fillable forms since before the last two Adobe Reader updates in April 2014.
These forms were not causing the program to crash before the updates. We have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader multiple times. The forms crash when advancing from fillable box to fillable box, when switching from signature/freehand to fillable box, etc.
We have tried several different forms with the same result. Is there anything else we should try to get Reader working properly?

I am so sorry that your email attachments did not get through.  Because the Adobe forums do not accept email attachments.

  • Adobe Reader X (10.1) Crashes

    Hello,
I am a member of an IT department and have a user on Windows XP that is running Adobe Reader X (10.1). It crashes whenever the program starts, whether through the .exe file or when trying to open .pdf files.
    My attempts:
    Repairing the application
    Un-installing then re-installing a clean copy
Rebuild the user profile. The problem persists. After rebuilding the profile, adobe ran and opened a few documents then began crashing again.
Reader runs flawlessly on the administrator account. I am able to run it in compatibility mode for Windows 2000 and open documents, but this causes an intermittent issue with Outlook 2007. Whenever trying to attach a pdf to an e-mail, outlook may hang. It appears that attaching the file causes adobe to run and try to open the pdf normally but then it crashes and causes Outlook to hang. Any ideas how to fix Adobe Reader? The user shouldn't need to run it in compatibility mode to open a pdf. Also, the Computer is clean of viruses.
Thank you for any assistance and please let me know if there is any more information I can provide.

I have the same problem, but my operating system is Windows 2007 (Home Premium). I can't open any PDFs  anymore after installing version X two days ago....Every time when  opening a PDF, the Adobe X crashes within a few seconds.
When just  opening the Reader itself, without opening a file, no menu items at all  appear, just a outer frame with the Adobe logo on top appears, the rest  is blank.
Never had any problems with previous versions of Adobe Reader.
The same problem is discussed in the ”Adobe no longer works”  thread on this forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/857858?tstart=0.

    Hi rooibosm26656311,
There might be a chance that Reader X has not uninstalled properly.
Please uninstall Reader using cleaner tool "Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs" and remove all its traces from your system.
Then, install it again from the below mentioned link:
Adobe Reader Install for all versions
Let me know how it goes.
