Adobe Reader 10.1.2 MUI Silent Uninstall

I am in the process of updating our entire organization to Adobe Reader XI, and am unable to remotely uninstall Adobe Reader 10.1.2 MUI from end user workstations silently. What MSIEXEC, or other, command can I use to accomplish this?

  • Can't open PDFs/uninstall program Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI

I can't open PDFs, can't uninstall program, I have Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI (I don't know what MUI is...), help! I have tried numerous times to uninstall and change the program. Every time I try to do this, a window comes up saying that files are open (Adobe Reader) and to either retry or close. I can do neither, so I'm unable to uninstall the program. I've never had anything like this happen to me. I scanned my computer for viruses, malware, etc. and nothing came up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just try to download the software from the Adobe site and see what happens?
    Thanks, Tracy

Assuming you are in Windows (which you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.
And I think it is Multilanguage User Interface...

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 MUI error 1321

I posted this in the enterprise forum but have not had any luck getting a response so I'm reposting it here to see if I have any luck.
I am currently deploying Adobe Reader 10.1.3 MUI and I am seeing several machines fail the installation and report error 1321 (permissions issues). This is an issue because the installer removes the previous version of Reader and fails to install 10.1.3 which leaves the machine without Reader and results in impact to the end user.  If I re-run the installation there is a good chance it will report a different file with permission issues, in other words its not always the same file it reports permission issues with. Regardless, I have manually confirmed the permissions and owner on the files and all parent folders are correct but the installer will still report permission issues. I see this on Windows 7 SP1 x64  and Windows XP SP3. The easiest way to get Reader to install succesfully is by running the installation over and over until it passes (you dont even have to make any changes to the machine, just kick it off until it installs succesfully). With all of this in mind I suspect the root cause to be  Mcafee's real time scanning, my guess is that it is locking the file when its scanning and when Adobe's installer attempts to modify the file it fails because it is locked or in use by Mcafee. Usually, I would test this by disabling Mcafee and kicking off the installer however I am not able to do this due to security reasons. I have tried running procmon to see exactly whats accessing the files at that time but everytime I start procmon the installation will randomly pass and I cant reproduce the issue if procmon is running. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to help determine if it is in fact Mcafee causing the issue? Or possibly another suggestion as to what the root cause could be?

I was able to resolve this. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4895858#4895858

  • The "Adobe Reader 11.0.08 security update - All languages" is not working with "Adobe Reader 11.0 - Multilingual (MUI) installer" using msiexec when creating an msi package. is there going to be a release of Adobe Reader 11.0.08 update - Multilingual (MUI

Is it possible to create an msi package if the product you are upgrading is Multilingual (MUI) and the update(msp) you are applying is not Multilingual (MUI) but "All languages"?

Please download the latest Adobe Reader patch from the below mentioned location, it will work with MUI installer.

  • Adobe Reader Version 9.4.0.195 uninstall if have version 10?

Hi looking for some help please.
I have Adobe Reader Version 9.4.0.195 on my computer, but I also have the later version 10. something. Will it affect the version 10 if I uninstall the older version? I am trying to free up some space on my laptop. Likewise for Adobe Acrobat (same versions).
    Thanks!

    What is your operating system?
If Windows, I would run the Acrobat Cleaner Tool, the reinstall Acrobat X and Reader X.

  • When will we get the Adobe Reader 11.0.05 MUI patch?

    Hi,
We are currently trying to set up an automated installation of Adobe Reader 11 on our SCCM system, using the MUI installer. We have created corresponding MSP and MST files, and it all works fine.
Our problem is that the latest MUI patch is 11.0.04, and not 11.0.05, meaning that we do not get the latest security updates. The 11.0.04 patch dates back to late September last year, so we kinda expected the 11.0.05 to have arrived by now.
    Any release dates?
    Best regards, Jan.

    Hi,
We tried the installations from scratch today, but still encounter problems.
    This is what we do:
    1. msiexec /i AdbeRdr11000_mui_std\acroread.msi TRANSFORMS=acroread.mst /passive
    2. msiexec /update AdbeRdrUpd11004_MUI.msp /passive
    3. msiexec /update AcrobatSecUpd11005.msp /passive
Items 1 and 2 work fine. The installation conforms to the MST file and the version ends up being 11.0.04 MUI. When we try to run the security update, it fails. I only have a Danish version of the text, but it basically says it cannot install because the program being updated is a wrong version or cannot be found.
    Any clues?
    Best regards, Jan.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.1 -   How to Uninstall ?

I recently downloaded Adobe 8.1.1 and have not been able to open pdf files on other browsers. I have tried to change(repair)the download, then tried removing the download hoping that re-installing would help. However, when I hit Start, go to Settings, then Control Panel, then Add / Remove programs, and press "Change" I get the following message:
"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
When I press "Remove" the following message appears:
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I got the free download of 8.1.1 from the adobe site, how do I "verify that the patch package exists or if it's valid" ?

    Augustine,
Adobe Reader 8.1.1 has been "CORRUPTED"
Adobe Reader 8.1.2 is supposed to remedy this
    I use "Google"

When "results" appear-look for "support,microsoft.com" DESCRIPTION OF WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEANUP UTILITY" AND "click"
When page opens, scroll down to "Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now. (You can read instructions or not)
When "File Download-Security Warning" box appears "click" RUN
After download completes--Open "Programs" on your computer and look for "WINDOWS INSTALL CLEANUP"--Click to open
When box opens look for 8.1.1 (or) Adobe 8.1.1 and "click" (HIGHLIGHT)WARNING--DO NOT HIGHLIGHT ANY OTHER PROGRAM!!!!
At bottom of box Click "REMOVE"
Go back to "CONTROL PANEL" "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" Adobe Reader should have been removed.
    Now download ADOBE READER 8.1.2
Let me know how it works out

  • Not able to open adobe reader 8.1.2, upgrade or uninstall

I am using Windows 7 operating system.  My adobe was working a couple of months ago, but now I get an error when I try to open it.  It is not able to find the network location (?) and gives me a repeated fatal error.  I have tried to uninstall the original program but it won't allow me to do that either, the same if I try to upgrade.  I need this for both school and work.  Any ideas?

Can you post a screenshot of the error message that you are seeing?

  • How to silent Upgrade Adobe Reader from 10.1.4 to 10.1.8?

    Hi,
my problem is that i have 10.1.4 and I want 10.1.8.
If I understood this right: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-patch-acrobat-reader-10.html
Acrobat (Formula = Base release + latest quarterly + latest out of cycle patch)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.8 (Q)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.5 (Q) > 10.1.6 (OOC)
    Acceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.0.1 (Q) > 10.0.3 (OOC)
    Unacceptable: 10.0.0 > 10.1.0 (Q) > 10.1.8 (Q) <<<<<<<<<<
It will only work if I uninstall 10.1.4 first before I can install 10.1.8.
Now to uninstall 10.1.4 i need the GUID found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Installer
How do I have to do write my script, so it will identify the GUID of any newer version of the Reader?
    ### It looks like this:
##Installing Adobe Reader 10.1.4 # currently not using variables
    D:\Test\Adobe_Patch_Daten\AdbeRdr1014_de_DE.exe -nos_oD:\Test\Adobe_Reader_10.1.4\ -nos_ne /sAll

    msiexec /i D:\Test\Adobe_Reader_10.1.4\AIP\AcroRead.msi TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe" /quiet /log log.txt

  • [How To] Silent Install | Adobe Reader 11.0.1

Download the latest Adobe Reader exe from FTP
    - ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/
    - 11.x > 11.0.01 > en_US > AdbeRdr11001_en_US.exe
** I recommend using a VM for the following **
Copy the EXE to your virtual machine.
Run the EXE, but do not click 'Next'
Go to Start and run and type '%ProgramData%\Adobe\Setup' and hit OK.
Here you will find the extracted installation files in a folder '{AC76.....}'
Copy these files to another location.
Once copied to another location, you can cancel the setup.
Open the 'AcroRead.msi' in Adobe Customization Wizard XI.Adobe Customization Wizard XI download.ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.00/misc/CustWiz11000_en_US.exe

Once all changes are complete, go to 'Transform' and then 'Generate Transform'
Save this file as 'AcroRead.mst' in the same directory.
Go to file and 'Save Package' to save the MSI.
The setup.ini will now include 'TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst'
Being that you made the customized MST file, you can now run the 'Setup.exe' and it will pull whatever settings you created. If you chose to do silent, it will run as that. You can now deploy this through SCCM as a package, or deploy through Group Policy.
This is one method for producing a deployable package. Option 2 is downloading the latest MSP from the FTP and applying through the main 11.0.0 MSI. There will not be one MSI provided from Adobe for updates such as this, but rather the additional MSP files.
    I hope this helps.

  • What is Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages

I have a choice of 2 downloads from Adobe
Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages and
Adobe Reader 9.3.4 update - multiple languages
Both are the same size and date.
What is the difference between these?

Adobe Reader MUI is Adobe's Multilingual User Interface version. This product is capable of installing any combination of supported languages. So, for example, you can install French, German, and Spanish simultaneously and then have the capability toswitch among those languages within Adobe Reader. The user interface changes to the appropriate language on the fly.
So if you have MUI Reader 9.3.3(and NOT normal Reader) in your machine and want to update it to 9.3.4 choose Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages otherwise choose Adobe Reader 9.3.4 update - multiple languages (for normal Reader).
To check what you have in your machine, Goto Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and check the entry of Adobe Reader.
For MUI reader it will be
    "Adobe Reader 9.3.3 MUI"
and for normal Reader it will be
    "Adobe Reader 9.3.3"
