Adobe Reader 10.1.7 crashing with memory access violation

After upgrading to 10.1.7 on some Windows Server 2003 SP2 (32-bit) terminal servers, we get Adobe Reader X unable to open any PDF. It launches for a brief second and then closes, apparently with exit code -1073741819 which I was able to get from running Sysinternal Process Monitor, since the Reader application and Windows give no indication or popup error about why the program crashed. I understand this exit code translates to 0xC0000005 "access violation". To make things more interesting, it seems to ONLY occur when accessing the servers via RDP, and may have somethig to do with the configured screen resolution or color depth for that RDP session. In some cases we are able to get Adobe to open for the same user opening the same PDF file without crashing by temporarily changing the RDP settings to a lower resolution, or a color depth other than 256 colors. I tried to disable protected mode at startup via local Group Policy in the registry, but that did not seem to help. We are running McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as well, though I have no indication that is a factor at this point. Any clues on what might be going on here or how to zero in closer on the problem?

Adobe Reader 11.0.03 crashes every time I open a PDF.  I see the grey box saying Reading Untagged Document then it crashes with the message that Acrobat is not responding.  I have Windows 7 Professional.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times.  What should I do?

    Hi,
Could you please let us know if you are using any 3rd party plugin for Adobe Reader? If so, can you please temporarily remove the same and see if you are facing the same issue.
If you are not sure about the same, please do the following:
    1. Navigate to the Reader installation folder. Usually its C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0
    2. Ensure that Adobe Reader is not running and delete the entire "Reader" folder
    3. Initiate a Repair transaction for Adobe Reader from the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Also, it would be great if you could let us know if the issue is PDF specific or does the issue happen with all documents. Do you observe the same issue with the below mentioned PDF as well:

  • Adobe Reader 7.0.7 Crashes

Anyone else having problems installing or running Adobe Reader 7? It crashes right after displaying the menubar.

Anyone else having problems installing or running
Adobe Reader 7? It crashes right after displaying the
    menubar.
I had this with Adobe Acrobat Professional 7 as part of the Photoshop CS2 suite. It eventually locked up my MacBook so I ended up installing the operating system from the supplied Apple CDs.
I have subsequently seen a comment on the Adobe website about this issue. Adobe say they will not be releasing a Universal version until the next product upgrade.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.X crashing due to message.zip CERT update

We had a number of customers reporting Adobe Reader 10.1.X crashing 30 seconds after opening a PDF in Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
The issue occurs when Adobe phones home to download:
    http://acroipm.adobe.com/10/rdr/ENU/win/nooem/none/message.zip
Which look to be CERT updates.
Block this using whatever filtering software or create a dummy DNS zone and the issue goes away.

If the above would also fix (or circumvent) the isse, the same would be achieved with these registry settings
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\IPM]
    "bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc"=dword:00000001
    "bShowMsgAtLaunch"=dword:00000000
I will ask a user in the forum who still faces the isse to test it.

  • Scrolling through PDF files is slow using Adobe Reader on MY MACBOOK pro with retina

Scrolling through PDF file using Adobe reader on my MACBOOK pro is very slow and stuters. That is even for small files. MAC preview and Adobe pro do not have this issue. It is only Adobe ready.
    Please advice.

Summarizing the problem specifics and versions for future readers:
There are two separate "slow scrolling" bugs in recent versions of Adobe Reader on Mac OS X. Symptoms: scrolling by mouse or fn + down arrow is very sluggish and laggy. It is not isolated to large or graphically complex documents. This 2 megabyte PDF shows illustrates the problem: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/nasa-tnd-6846pt.1.pdf
Problem 1: Adobe plug-in for Safari causes slow scrolling when viewing PDF documents within Safari. Solution: remove Adobe plugins from Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin. I also deleted AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin. This will cause PDF display within Safari to revert to the built-in Apple PDF renderer, which is very fast. These files will be re-installed anytime you install or upgrade Adobe Reader.
Problem 2: Stand-alone Adobe Reader scrolling is slow starting with version 11.0.01. Version 10.1.4 and earlier are not slow. User CF McBlob did not experience this slowdown, but was also running Acrobat 10.1.7, which might have libraries which prevented the problem. I'll do further testing when possible to try and isolate more details.
    Platform specifics: OS X 10.8.4, late 2012 iMac 27", i7 3.4Ghz, 16GB RAM, 3TB Fusion drive, GPU = GTX675MX, 1GB

  • What do I do when I get a message that adobe reader 7 is not compatable with windows 8?

What do I need to do when a website sends me a message that my adobe reader 7 is not compatable with windows 8?

Are you using Adobe Reader 7 on Windows 8? If so, the message is probably correct and you should download the latest version of Adobe Reader (which is XI).
If you already have Reader XI, maybe you can give us some more details about where you are at and what you are doing when you get this message.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.2 signing with OCSP embedding?

These days, I've been testing Adobe Reader 11.0.2 signing with OCSP embedding, and the following was unclear:
    1. If there is CRL file in Adobe  Reader 11 CRL Cache (C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Security\CRLCache), then OCSP is not embedded in e-signature, but CRL is embedded. How can I configure Adobe  Reader 11, so that signature doesn't have embedded cached CRL, but OCSP for end-user certificate?
    2. Why doesn't Adobe Reader 11 display full OCSP certificate chain? Adobe Reader 10 displays full OCSP certificate chain. You can see attached picture:
    Dragan

Both of these problems are also in the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2015.007.20033. The first problem on the Windows 7 computer can be resolved by deleting the CRL Cache (before signing) in the following location: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security\CRLCache.

  • Adobe reader 10 and 11 crashes after 3-5 sec.

adobe reader 10 and 11 crashes after 3-5 sec. it newer gets fully opened, it just closes. the problem is all my pdf files on my computer. and they work fine on my other labtop. tryed to repair, remove, install many times

Can you try this next: navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (if you have Reader XI installed), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (Reader XI on 64-bit Windows), and double-click on Eula.exe, then accept the license agreement.
    Does that fix the problem?

  • Adobe Reader 9 and printing labels with USPS.

I have read some of the other posts about Adobe Reader 9 and printing labels with USPS. I am running Snow Leopard on my IMac with Adobe reader 9.1.3 and have had no problems only when using Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3 for the Mac. There is, however, an extra step, if I recall (some window asking me to make a selection, which came up after I clicked on the "print and bill" button). But everything worked just fine.

    Hi,
Thank you for the quick response. I've done that but the problem persists.
A bit about my computer it's Vista, but the folders are a little weird. Default install directory and common files folders are on a different drive. In addition appdata are also on a different drive. However this should not affect sinve I've already re-installed Adobe Reader multiple times and it used to work just fine.
But perhaps the problem is indeed path related. Anybody with more ideas to share?
    Thank you in advance.
Update: When I reinstall Adobe Reader and open the file, the first time I try to install Japanese font it does not end with "registering product" but with something like "removing backup files" (see attachment). If I try to install Japanese font again and again, I will get the "registering product" at the final glimpse of the installation pop-up.

I am using Adobe Reader X on a laptop with Windows Vista OS and Adobe Reader XI on an older laptop with Windows XP OS.  While filling out the same form on each computer, I have found that I can save info on the older laptop, but not on the newer one.  This is a big problem.  I must be able to save on the newer computer.  Do I need to buy a new computer with a more up-to-date OS?  Please help.

Adobe Reader X can only save reader-enabled forms. Adobe Reader XI can save all forms.

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0 problems with MS Word

I wanted to convert MS Word to PDF. Seeing it was avalible with Adboe Reader XI I clicked to initiate the conversion.
To my surprise I would have to pay for this process, a price I did not agree with.
I didn't continue the payment process.
I now have problems opening MS Word documents.
Trying to open MS Word, Adobe opens with a error basically stating the file is not supported.
I've removed Adobe Reader & reinstalled having the same problem.
What can I do to reverse this problem?
    Thanks!
    Steve

This means your file association is corrupted.  You need to set it so that
.pdf files open with Adobe Reader
.doc / .docx files open with MS Word
