Adobe reader 10.1 AutoUpdate without administrative privileges

Hi,
If I install Adobe Reader 10.1 for windows 7 manually, then standard user without administrative rights can use autoapdate. If I install it through Group Policy or SCCM, then standard users should enter admin's password. How can I install Adobe Reader automatically and that it doesn't demand administrator's password from standard users?

Well, Let me rephrase, so you want to push the Reader 10.1 via GPO and then afterwards you want the users machines get updated automatically. i.e. Post 10.1, you want the users to receive updates via (Help>Check for updates) silent update and not via GPO. Am I right?
If this is the case, am not sure if this is an supported scenario, because you are installing an AIP first and then the next updates are coming from an Non AIP installation. As far as I know, if we have deployed any patch via GPO then the next updates must be pushed via GPO only. Since, their underlying technology is AIP. We should not be mixing both the ways of installation.
I do not think, there's any solution available for your problem via GPO right now. Though I would like to see your Cust Wizard option once. But what I can suggest you to resolve the issue with SCCM (if possible)

  • Installation without Administrator Privileges

    Hi All
From what I can gather from AIR documentation, one cannot install or update AIR, or install or update AIR applications without administrator privileges.
We roll out applications to hundreds of medium size businesses (dealerships) and this represents a huge problem as most employees at these companies do not have admin rights.  None of these sites has automated network installs, and all have different situations regarding IT support.
Our current desktop application requires no admin privileges and introducing the AIR portion of our product has caused a big snag.
Is there any way to get around this?  Are future versions going to support some way of doing this?
We would probably be ok if we had to do one administrator install of AIR and the app,  if further application updates did not require admin rights.
    Thanks
    Ken

Exactly. A feature that allows Enterprise IT to "bless" an AIR application would be great. The AIR Update Framework is such a great feature. I hate the fact that I cannot use it on my largest AIR installations. That means more expense for us, and our desktop engineering jobs are safe...
From my understanding, the AIR Update Framework already ensures that the digital certificate in an update matches the digital certificate of the installed app. This guarantees that the update came from the same trusted publisher of the app. Very nice.
I think I also read somewhere that on Windows, AIR apps are always installed in the "All Users" profile -- both file system and Registry. An option to install an AIR app in a user's profile would also work for us, if that helps.
So even if we have to SMS the initial application install (with our production digital certificate), allowing the app to update itself would save us a lot of time, effort, money, headaches, etc...

    Hi jscher2000,
Yes. I do not want non-administrator domain users to install Firefox. Most of the domain users are using Windows XP and 7 Professional.
Once the Firebox executable file is clicked, Windows does prompt Windows Security message box for administrator username and password.
However, the installation process is proceed, even though no login information is inserted and domain user clicked "NO" .By default, any of the application installation process will be stopped once "NO" option is clicked.

  • Install on windows without administrator privilege

I try to install jrockit jdk on WinXP. I am normal user, and cannot become administrator. The error message reported: "Administrator privileges are required to run this installer". Is there any other way to install except getting administrator rights?

Have you tried skipping the 'Install public JRE' step, it's should only
be this step that requires admin privileges.
We will verify the behaviour and fix it if it's not the case.
If skipping the jre step doesn't help, you can do the following:
    *Unzip 'win_ia32_jrockit150_03_sdk_no_jre.zip' and
    'win_ia32_jrockit150_03_jre.zip' from the installer exe
('jrockit-25.2.0-jdk1.5.0_03-win-ia32.exe'), put them for instance in
    c:\tmp.
*Unzip 'win_ia32_jrockit150_03_sdk_no_jre.zip' into c:\jrockit (or some
    other directory of your choice).
    *Unzip 'win_ia32_jrockit150_03_jre.zip' into c:\jrockit\jre

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize device without administrator privileges

Hi. My BB Bold is working fine at home with DM 4.6. However, at work DM only detects that the device is connected when I'm granted with administrator privileges (Windows XP Pro, SP2). When I'm denied the extra privileges DM cannot detect the BB.
DM was intalled under administrator privileges but I'm not allowed having this privileges permanently.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like when DM was installed, it wasn't installed 'for any user'.  Perhaps uninstall it and when it's reinstalled make sure the option 'for any user' is checked (insteald of 'only for this user').

  • Find not working without Administrator group

    Operating System : Windows 2000 SP4
    Adobe Reader Version : 8.1.2
Has anyone else experienced the following:
I installed Adobe Reader using the Administrator account. Users of the machine run with normal user accounts. When users attempt to do a 'Find', it crashes Adobe Reader, but not the OS. When users are made members of the Administrators group, Find works as expected.
Is it really the case that Adobe Reader needs to run with Administrator privileges?

This is a very frustrating problem, and it's sad to see it has persisted so long.
My experience was very similar: downloaded a pdf; was able to highlight and copy and paste text, no problem; but when i tried to search, this is what i saw [screenshot]:
    Maddening!
But, after finding and reading this thread, i retraced my steps, and found that it was indeed related to a Mac OS X "Save as" glitch — sort of.
Whenever i download a document i intend to work on directly, adding annotations and highlights, etc., i sometimes choose to work on a copy, leaving another untouched (i'm an obsessive academic); sure enough: Preview was not finding text in the *copy* i had made (by clicking "duplicate" in the contextual menu after selecting the pdf in Finder). The original document was perfectly fine; only the duplicate copy is corrupted.
What's interesting though is that when i tried to highlight text in the original, Preview (of course) told me it is "locked" and asked if i wanted to unlock it or work on a copy; i clicked copy, and voila: the duplicate version created by Preview actually seems to work fine.
So long story short: i guess i can't trust Finder to duplicate pdf documents for me; from now on i'll do it through Preview.
BTW: Being paranoid, i checked and double-checked. So far so good. (Which is to say: not great, really, because we shouldn't be having this problem in the first place... sigh.) Anyway, good luck, i hope maybe this helps someone.

  • CS5 Updates only with Administrator Privileges?

    Hi!
I installed CS5 Design Premium on several PCs in the company as administrator, the Users dont have administrator-privileges. The problem is, that CS5 does prompt for updates very often at the moment, and the users cant apply them. Is there a way to let them apply the updates without administrator privileges? I dont want to update this much PCs on my own and i dont want to give the users admin privs, of course
    Cheers & thanks for help,
    Chris

We made a "hack" to get this possibillity under CS4.
You have to look into "runaspc.exe" in order to get it to work.
That's the way we did it.
Not an ideal solution but Adobe has not yet managed to their updates to work with eg WSUS or similar.
They have however released their Adobe Update Server, but that doesn't help one bit as the update procedure still needs administrative rights.

  • Adobe Reader Updates and Flash Plugin for Reader.

I was surprised to find out that Adobe Reader Updates and also Flash Plugin for Adobe Reader cannot be installed on Windows 7 without Admin Rights!!!!!
I remember on Windows XP this was not an issue. I am sure I have checked the possibility of installing Adobe Flash Plugin for Adobe Reader on Windows XP without Admin Rights and it worked...
Now, we have some major issue...
I have prepared Adobe PDF Portfolio for some new policy for Housing Loan, and deployed it to be open from a Web Browser. As per my testing, it worked very nice, and the Business User loved it. On Windows XP, if flash plugin for Reader is not installed, the user will be guided to install it, and it works very nicely.
Just before sending the announcement to all users, we realized that on Windows 7, if flash plugin for Reader is not installed, then when the user clicks on the link to open the PDF Portfolio, then nothing happens. The browser window will open, and it will hang.
Then we found out that on Windows 7 we have to install the Reader Flash Plugin manually, and also, the user must have Admin Rights ...
Now, a decision has been made to cancel the work done using PDF Portfolio, and develop a simple page with links to the required documents...
    Any solution for this?
How we can install the required plugin without the need for Admin Right?
Why on Windows 7, the user does not get prompts to guide him to install Adobe Reader Flash Plugin?
    Tarek.

I think I can see the reason for this. The Flash Player is separated from Adobe Reader; the system component is now used. (It appears that the "browser plug-in" and "Flash plug-in for Adobe Reader" are indeed the same thing, loaded from the same system location).
Adobe are following recommended practice. It is right and proper that software is installed by the administrator. This then means that the non-administrator end user is protected from malware which attempts to change that software for bad reasons.
Nobody wants to walk round installing 1000 copies of software. Personally, I'd draw the line around 5 copies. Above that, software designed for bulk use is deployed centrally using enterprise deployment tools.
There are even more powerful reasons to do this today, as security updates should be installed almost immediately, and end users won't bother. Generally, the tools are standard, but the vendor adds support for deploying software in these standard frameworks.

  • Why are administrator privileges required to log out of Creative Cloud?

    Hi,
we are using Creative Cloud for Teams on managed Mac OS X-Clients, which means our users are working on standard user accounts and have no administrator privileges. They are able to sign-in to Creative Cloud with their Adobe ID without problem, but logging off is a different story: its impossible to log out of CC without administrator privileges.
    Any informations regarding this issue?
    Thanks!

    Hi Abhijit,
CC was distributed to the client computers with CC Packager, where it's recommended NOT to distribute the CC Desktop app if the user has no admin privileges.
I gave it a try anyway and installed a package including CC Desktop, but it didn't help. When trying to sign out of CC, the user gets an error message, see following screenshot (it's in german, sorry).
    Thanks for your help,
    Tobi

  • Silent installation JRE over a intranet without admin privileges

    HI,
I do know how to perform a silent installation of JRE.
The problem i am facing is the users present in my intranet are not normal users and dun have Administrative Rights.
So i am facing a problem when installing JRE...
Is there any work around to install without administrative privileges?
My network has 500 systems and its either Win 2000 or XP systems.
I need to do this in a week to get my product running in all the user's machines!!
    Help out guys!!
    Anand

Sun has answered this very clearly in the JRE INstallation Instructions:
"Note - you must have administrative permissions in order to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP. "

  • PDF annotation with link, image doesn't show, only in print or Google Chrome, not Adobe Reader main

We are creating PDF files with annotations, we are using the O2 Solutions PDF Library for C#. We used to create PDFStampAnnotations, but now we want to make the images clickable, to navigate to the URL belonging to the image.
Therefore, we are now using PDFLinkAnnotations, with a PDFImageAppearance.
We set the flags of the annotation to Print.
However, the annotation won't show in the PDF in Adobe Reader. It does show in the Google Chrome inline PDF viewer.
It also shows in the print preview window in Adobe Reader.
But it does not show in the normal view in Adobe Reader. What we do see is, when hovering over the rectangle that should contain our image, our mouse cursor becomes a hand and a tooltip with the link is displayed. If we click, everything works as expected. But we don't see an image!
What can we do about this? This is really annoying, as I don't have a clue why it won't work. Actually, to me, this looks like a bug in Adobe Reader?

    Thank  you for your reply.
Indeed, I tried saving a PDF that had the "default appearance", it shows exactly the same. So it looks like it "can't" show the image.
However, of course, I do want the image to be shown. How can I achieve this? How can I tell Adobe Reader (and other PDF viewers) I really really realllyyyyy want to see that image there? I believe I'm not doing anything really exotic, right? There must have been tons of other people that wanted to do the same thing, I guess?
