Adobe Reader 10.2 very slow

Hi Everybody,
I just bought my Blackberry Playbook last weekend. I want to use it principally for my work. I have download the last version  OS and I get adobe reader 10.2 with it.
I transfer some "PDF" files from my computer to the Playbook to make some presentation to my customers. My problem is that is running very slow.... A soon I turn a page it froze for few seconds...
Is this normal? Or the version is bad... I really don't know what to think...
I did get this tablet because of the good price and because I have a BB Bold... But I can't present PDF file to customers if it froze every 2 seconds...
Please help!!!
Thank you

I have the same problem.  BlackBerry and Adobe listen up.
1.  Do you have the latest version of Adobe?  GOOD QUESTION.  I HAVE THE LATEST ADOBE READER UPDATE WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE COME WITH THE LATEST PLAYBOOK SOFTWARE. DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU GUYS ARE GETTING VER 10.2 BECAUSE THE VERSION LOADED WITH NO UPDATES AVAILABLE, IS 10.0.3.325
2.  Do you have a lot of Applications installed on your PlayBook?  NO.  IT'S RELATIVELY NEW.  IT'S ONLY THE ADOBE TRYING TO READ A 2.2MB 9-PAGE HI-RES FILE.
3.  How much memory do you have left on your PlayBook? I imagine that Adobe may use a lot of memory and you may not have enough memory to support everything.  WITH NO APPS OPEN, IT SAYS 541MB OF 1GB FREE MEMORY.  WITH ADOBE OPEN, 518MB FREE.  WITH ADOBE AND 2.2MB DOC OPEN, IT SAYS 481MB FREE.  CRAZY THAT OPENING A 2.2MB PDF TAKES 37MB OF RAM OVER AND ABOVE THE BASIC PROGRAM!
4.  IT LOADS FINE.  BUT SWIPING FROM PAGE TO PAGE I GET EXACTLY WHAT  THE ORIGINAL POSTER IS EXPLAINING.  IF A WAIT 10 SECONDS BETWEEN EACH PAGE TURN, IT'S BETTER BUT NOT PERFECT.  WORST CASE, I SWIPE TO TURN THE PAGE, SOME PAGES WILL RESPOND, OTHERS WILL WAIT 5-10 SECONDS, THEN CHANGE THE PAGE NUMBER THEN ACTUALLY BRING UP THE NEW PAGE.  IF I SWIPE TWICE THINKING I DIDN'T SWIPE "WELL ENOUGH" ON THE FIRST TRY, I CAN WAIT 10-15 SECONDS FOR IT TO SKIP THE NEXT PAGE AND BRING ME TO THE ONE AFTER THAT.  SOMETIMES, I SWIPE AND NOTHING HAPPENS SO I WAIT FOR THE TYPICAL 10-SEC RESPONSE - BUT NOTHING HAPPENS.  THE SWIPE GOT LOST ENTIRELY.
5.  I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ADOBE PERFORMANCE ON THE PLAYBOOK.  PITIFUL.  NOT SMOOTH.  NOT SLEEK.  LESS THAN FUNCTIONAL.  IF ANY OF YOU HAVE TIES TO THE PLAYBOOK ENGINEERS, TALK TO THEM ABOUT THIS ONE.  I'M SURE ANY HIGH RES PDF WILL DO FOR A TEST COMPARISON.  MINE IS 2.2 MB AND 9 PAGES.  ALL PAGES HAVE GRAPHICS AND TEXT.  SOME PHOTOS, GRAPHICS AND TEXT.  IF NECESSARY, I WILL EMAIL THE FILE TO A BLACKBERRY OR ADOBE STAFF MEMBER.
6.  THIS BEHAVIOUR IS NOT OCCURRING WITH PHOTOS OR VIDEOS OR ANYTHING ELSE.  IT'S DEFINITELY SUB-STANDARD PERFORMANCE FROM THE ADOBE READER INSTALLED ON PLAYBOOK 2.0.1.358.
7.  !@#$  Even worse, I try to email this to the "support" address given on the Adobe Reader app's page, and it bounces - "no such user".  Seriously, if anyone here knows anyone there, give them **bleep**.  In a nice way of course.

  • I have a PDF form (50 Pages) to fill out.  I'm trying to use Adobe Reader, it is very slow having to tag Fill & Sign on each line.  How can I accomplish this task quicker?

What is the best tool to fill out a PDF form, (50 pages). I have Adobe Reader, & Acrobat XI Pro; at least I think I do, Acrobat XI Pro may need to be installed.

Is it a fillable form? That is one where you can just type into it because it was prepared that way? If not, it is absolutely unreasonable to expect it to be filled on screen. Print it and write on it.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1 causing slow down and crashes

Despite safely using 7.0 for years, when I updated to 8.1, my computer slowed to a snail's pace and froze frequently, more than hourly. I have definitely traced the problem to Adobe Reader 8.1 (8.1.2?)because the problems disappeared the several times I uninstalled it. I am now using 7.0 without any problems. Does any one have an idea what the problem is? Can I ever safely upgrade to Version 8?

  • Nokia fix adobe reader on E72 VERY VERY URGENT

Recently I have upgraded fw to 54.005 from 52.005 with a lot of hope of getting updated adobe reader 2:5. But what I got is version .001 labelled as version 2.5. Nokia people please visit quickoffice site to know features of AR 2.5, what you are providing is not the same application which is sold on quick office site. Your application versiion is higher than the application available for sale at quick office site, but exect opening a pdf file nothing is possible with adobe reader you have provided. Even I am not able to purchase one from quick office as present application not allowing me to update/upgrade. I used AR 2:5 on my old E61 long back and it is exellent was very happy

    Reply to Thetao
Mr Thetao my intention is not conclude version, but to say how primitive is the app is.
Adobe Reader v 2.5 (192) which is available at quick office has great features http://www.quickoffice.com/adobe_reader/   I did used is on my old E71 and it is great.
But though Nokia says its version is 2.5(202), why it is so primitive, it has no features execept opening a pdf file ( am talking about on E72, I don't know about it functionality on e73)
Non of the below features are there in e72 Adobe reader v 2.5(202)
    Adobe Reader LE 2.5 Features
View documents easier with text-reflow to eliminate left-right scrolling
Get accurate renderings of content, images, complex layouts, and formatting
Increase content legibility on small screens with ZoomView™ navigation technology
See smoother shading and transparencies rendered in documents
Rotate pages in horizontally or vertically to maximize the viewing area
Navigate PDF files quickly using embedded bookmarks
Decrypt files with up to 128-bit password protected encryption

  • Adobe Reader XI is extremely slow (10 mins) opening a large SharePoint library (3000 docs)

How can I speed up the opening of a SharePoint library in Adobe Reader XI using the Open from Online Account feature.  This is an onsite, locally hosted SharePoint instance (not SharePoint Online).  The library is approximately 3000 files, almost all PDFs of varying sizes.  While it is trying to open the library, the message "Enumerating <Library Name>" is displayed and it takes over 10 minutes for the library to finally open up to be able to choose or save a file.
This maybe could be acceptable if it happened only the first time you accessed a sharepoint site or library, but this occurs every time, and makes the Open from Online Account feature useless because of the extremely long load times.  How can I fix this so that it opens instantly, as it should be doing?
Interesting to note, if I just click Open, then type in the sharepoint site address into the filename area (and not use the Open from Online Account feature), the library opens and populates instantly.  But I need an easy way to be able to have users browse a SharePoint site to save PDFs that aren't already saved there.

I do not think there is anything you can do to change this behavior on Reader's end. There may be a way to configure your Sharepoint Library to change this behavior. Since I am not familiar with Sharepoint, I will ask if you can set it up as a drive on your system? As to making Adobe aware of this behavior I would file a bug report:

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.04 slow for "save as"

Since upgrading to Adobe Reader 11.0.04 on our Server 20008 R2 RDS server, when users open an attached PDF in Outlook 2007, then do a "save as", the box takes 20-30 seconds to come up.  If they right-click on the attachment in Outlook and clicxk "save as", it is instant.  They need to open first to see where to save it on the network, as well as the file name to save it as.  PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
It seems you have issues with Reader launch. Which version did you have earlier?
Please try updating Reader to latest 11.0.05.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5674
Do you have NVIDIA driver on your machine? If yes, Please try upgrading it to latest via link below
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-drivers-recommended-links#update-drivers -recommended-links=windows-7
If that is not the case, then please try this adding this registry
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
It will disable the protected mode and then try launching Reader
Note: You should switch "ON" protected mode after verifying the problem. Purpose of Reader XI Protected Mode is to keep your system safe from PDF based exploits and keeping protected mode OFF will leave your system vulnerable.

  • Adobe Reader X and XI slow when emailing an attachment out of Reader to Outlook 2013 32bit

I have two new Lenovo 64bit computers with 32 bit Outlook 2013.  It takes over 45 seconds for the compose email to pop up when I attach a file or send a file through Adobe Reader (Depending on version).  I've tried the current version of X and XI.  Uninstalled and reinstalled both versions and also the Microsoft Office 2013 package.  It has to be something to do with Reader because other applications attach the email just fine.  I've exhausted my options and I am unable to find anything searching online.  I've found a few older discussions and none of those solutions have worked.  Any help would be great.

    Hi all,
I found a workaround the problem I was describing.
Apparently Adobe has implemented something called Protection Mode
for a description see this link :
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html
The workaround (I call it a workaround because you have to disable this new Security measure)
is to do the following: Open Adobe Reader X --> Go to Edit --> Preferences in the menu  --> General --> un-check "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Then you will have to click Continue and restart Adobe Reader for the change to take place.
Now this is only a workaround as it disables all of the new Protected Mode security features so please keep that in mind.
Hopefully adobe will address the Outlook integration piece so that the Printing script will be allowed to open and close Adobe like in un-protected mode...
Hope this helps others who have been searching for a workaround...
    Kevin.

  • Adobe AIR Apps + Safari = Very slow

    Hi everybody,
I'm experiencing a strange behaviour of my Adobe AIR Apps on iPad. I've tested several Apps now (one GPU-Heavy Game, one CPU-Blitting App, one pretty standard Puzzle) and all of them do have the same issue - as soon as Safari is running in the background it sometimes (not always.. and most likely on iPad1) slows my App down to 1fps. Until I close Safari again. I haven't ever seen any other App doing so, thus I believe it's an Adobe AIR bug. Maybe only on iPad though.
Does anyone know why this happens or if I can get around of that? Besides my Apps run superfast.
What I've tested so far is:
    - My memory usage is ~4mb. Doesn't seem to bother him if it's more or not
    - My GPU-Cache is held quite low (but even with empty GPU Cache this issue appears)
    - I'm using an Enter-Frame in all my apps which simulates the rendertick. Maybe this may be the fault?!
    Many thanks in advance,
    Marvin.

    Furthermore:
    - if the iPad was restarted you can have opened any iOS system-app without slowing down the Adobe AIR app
    - nevertheless after some hours this bug occurs again.
Our game is in stores now: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifunnel-frenzy-hd/id457822239?mt=8 and many people send us bugreports because of it. As soon as I'm telling them to close iOS system-apps things work superfine again.
You can download and test this bug for yourself - I think this might be pretty self-explaining then.
I'm a bit struggling how to solve this.. honestly.

  • Adobe Reader X flaws - very annoyed

If you hide toolbars in Reader X, the only way to get it back is to press F8.  Problem: some users don't KNOW you can press F8 to get it back.  Even if you restart the program, you won't get it back.  No, right clicking won't help you either.  Hence it's a design flaw, a dumb idea: if you lose your toolbar, there's no indication how to get it back.  That's bad, it's just stupid.
I just now was using it and I hid the menu bar by pressing F9.  Surprise:  there's NO WAY to get the menu bar back except to press F9.  Once again, what if the user doesn't know that??  What are you supposed to do??  What if you're using someone else's computer and you don't know how to reshow the toolbar or menu bar??
This is really annoying, that they would make it like that.  Also, is there a place I can directly complain to Adobe?  Someone wasn't thinking!!

One more thing: if you view the task pane in a Reader doc, it's impossible or very difficuly to turn it off, unless you close Reader.
Once again, this is very poor design.  You should be able to close it in an obvious way, like a menu option or an X on the task pane.

  • Adobe CS6 installation is very slow if internet access is blocked

    Hi,
I noticed that our Adobe CS6 installations (using an AAMEE package) were surprisingly slow (as in five hours on a fast machine).  I've worked out the cause of the problem, and am posting it here in the hope that it will help someone else experiencing the same issue - also, if anyone from Adobe is reading this, it would be nice to get it fixed, at least for future releases. :-)
The problem is that our machines don't have direct access to web sites on the internet, i.e., port 80 traffic is blocked by the external firewall.  I discovered that the CS6 installer was repeatedly attempting to contact various web sites, including crl.verisign.net, presumably in order to validate digital certificates on files in the install package.  Each such attempt had to time out before the next was made.  Configuring Windows Firewall to block these attempts reduced the install time from five hours to thirty minutes.
On Windows 7, this command can be used to install a firewall rule that will block outgoing port 80 traffic:
    netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="block www" dir=out action=block protocol=tcp remoteport=80
Once installation is finished, this command will remove the rule:
netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="block www"

For later versions (Adobe CC and onwards) you need to block port 443 as well as port 80.

  • Reader 9.1 very slow to open local pdfs

I'm having an issue with Reader 9.1 taking a very long time to open local pdfs. I'm running on a well equipped laptop. I try opening a single page pdf (nothing fancy) and it takes at least a good 45 seconds to a minute to open, even with Reader already open (with no file previously open). Doesn't matter the size of the file, still takes a very long time.
If I close the file and re-open it without shutting the computer down, it opens up right away though.
Any suggestions? This has been going on for quite some time and is quite frustrating...
    Thanks!

Sounds familiar, try turning off "show PDF in browser" in preferences - I just tried that, and it helped. Could even turn it on again without going back to my 12 second open delay, and the good news survived a reboot, but I will see...
In my case it took exactly 12 seconds for each local, unprotected, etc., file I opened for the first time after starting up the system. I checked network activity, and found that NETBIOS sends an NbtNs message via broadcast from all network adapters on the computer (with IP installed) every 0.75 seconds, retrying 16 times, and getting no answer. Unfortunately that's where my wisdom ends - while I can capture network traffic with MS Network Monitor, I cannot interpret the stuff.

  • Adobe reader search feature is slow..

I have an issue here at work where a user is using Reader 9.3.0 and she is able to successfully find an entry/data when using a 16,000 page pdf file (66 MB file) within seconds - the entry comes up after 5 seconds even when she starts at page 1. Another user that has the same version of Reader (9.3.0) is not having this success. When she starts the find option, the search starts at page 1 and just moves from there. It could take 45-60 minutes to get to the same point in the PDF that the other user gets to within seconds.
One thing that I did notice is that the user that has the quick search/find doesn't have the page numbers escalate one at a time; the search is run in the background and then it finds the data that she was looking for.
Both users have enable "enable fast find" selected with a cache size of 100 MB.
Thanks in advance for your assistance
    Regards
    Greg

*Update* - this is getting silly ...
I was trying to work around the problem, and adobe just wiped all the content from the PDF - it's now just a load of blank pages (and I've lost a bit of work).
I never had any problems before loading Mavericks.
    Thanks
