Adobe Reader 10 failed to  install. Upgrade hung up at "installing Features" & locked up system.

Adobe Reader 10 failed to  install. Upgrade hung up at "installing Features" & locked up system.  Tried second time and got "process interrupted" error.  Trch support NOT available, chat not available, nothing here seems to work.

When everything else fails, you may want to try the following:
Run this fix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader using Add/Remove Programs
If you want to reinstall Reader, download it from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Why should Adobe Reader fail to print because of settings
    in the Edit/Preference?
    Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10
    MS Window 7
    File > Print > Print
    I got the error message:
The document could not be printed
I googled this error message and used the following
solution that worked i.e. it then printed successfully.
    Edit >  Preferences
Category: Security(Enhancement)   'Enable Protected  Mode at Startup'
It was checked, changed it to unchecked.
Category: Documents    'View documents in PDF/Mode'
It was set to 'Only for PDF/A'
    Set it to 'Never'
Exited Adobe Reader and restart it. Then it printed.
I had a look on another computer system (Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10
and MS Window 7) and on this different computer I could print
without doing the above two changes.
I'm a bit puzzled. Why preferences on one system were not
    needed on a different system?

Here is an elaborate method of troubleshooting this problem. There may be a simpler method if anybody wants to suggest one.
There is a general technique that is helpful in this situation. I can't give you complete instructions here, and I haven't tested this with regard to bluetooth devices, but here's the gist of it.
Create a second log-on account for your music projects. Configure it so that when you log in to the new music account, the drivers needed for the Bluetooth devices don't load. You do this in System Preferences: Accounts.
When it's time to do music, log out of your usual account and onto the new one.
When you install drivers for any peripheral, you have the option of installing them "for all users" or only for the user account that is active during the installation.
This governs whether the drivers go in root/library or root/Users/your name/library.
If drivers are in root/library, they will load whenever the Mac is booted up and will run for all users.
But if drivers are loaded in root/Users/your name/library, they will only load if you log in as "your name". If you have a second account called root/Users/music account/, and you log in under that, the drivers in "your name" will not load. Get it?
To get this working right you need to be knowledgeable about moving or deleting files in the /library/ directory and subdirectories, and you need to be careful because you can unwittingly cause some damage if you are not careful.
There is also the root/System/library directory, and in general you should never mess around with anything in there or you might hose your system.
In summary, I would start by using the installer programs for your BlueTooth devices and DE-installing all drivers. Reboot. Log back in as your usual user account. Then RE-install each driver and see if the installer program gives you the OPTION to installl for all users or just for this user. Choose the latter. Then log on to your new Music account and see if the problems go away.

  • I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.0.07) and installed it. Message said install successful. But APEX learning software does a check to see if my system has Adobe Reader and it says I still need to install it. What's up? This has happened

I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.0.07) and installed it. Message said install successful. But APEX learning software does a check to see if my system has Adobe Reader and it says I still need to install it. What's up? This has happened to me numerous times throughout the years. I need to get to the bottom of this problem. Thanks for your help.

You still don't give us the message you are receiving.  My guess: you are trying to open a PDF in a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Keep getting message Adobe Reader failed to download core DLL

I have Adobe Reader and I use Widows 7.  I had used the Adobe Reader with no problems, however, just recently, when I tried to open the program, I got the message "because of compatibility problems, Adobe Reader cannot open in protected mode", so I clicked the option to allow it to open without protected mode, and I keep getting the message "Adobe Reader failed to download its core DLL".  How can I fix this?  Thanks

  • Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.

I keep getting the error message: Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.
I have Windows 7 Home basic Service pack 1 and have already uninstalled and re-downloaded Adobe reader XI twice. I have also read other threads on this forum, and
tried the suggestions, including running Kaspersky anti-rootkit, no threats were found.
My Adobe reader shortcut icon shows a small blue and yellow shield in the bottom right (I uninstalled Windows essential protection), but the problem prevails.
I would rather get to the root of the error and fix it and not just disable protection mode!
    Please help.

    Hi,
Please refer to the solution in:- Error: “Acrobat Failed to Load core DLL”.
Also, may want to try disabling all Non-Microsoft Startup Services.

  • Install Adobe Reader fails; says I should check javascript but how do I do it?

    Windows 7
I attempted to load Adobe Reader but it failed at the end, saying "There was an error installing Adobe Reader
[Error 1321. There was insufficient privileges to modify the file C\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Reader\Browser\nppdf32.dll]".
The trouble shooting site asked that I make sure that javaScript was enabled, saying that I should go to tools/options/Content Tab and make sure it is enabled. Well, no such tab with javaScript content exists. Maybe Firefox updated something. But I can't do this check, and - where did the javaScript enabled control go? Didn't bother to go further with trouble shooting since I couldn't satisfy this directive.
    thanks

hi jhohn1190, this problem won't be related to javascript which is enabled in firefox by default - this would only apply if you're not able to download the setup file at all.
since the error message is referencing missing privileges, please try right-clicking and running the setup as administrator. in case this doesn't help, please contact adobe's support in order to get their product working.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.7 upgrade path?

Could someone please explain the upgrade path to Adobe Reader 8.1.7 for me? I read the tech note "Adobe Acrobat and Reader Updating and Deployment Information" and I find myself still a little unsure.
Our most currently deployed version is 8.1.6 but some of our users still have older versions (8.1.2 ~ 8.1.5) installed. I have been distributing Adobe Reader via SMS 2003 since version 8.1.2 as below:
    8.1.2 - Customized using Adobe Cusomtization Wizard 8 (Setup.exe /sPB /rs /rps)
    8.1.3 - Customized using Adobe Cusomtization Wizard 8 (Setup.exe /sPB /rs /rps)
    8.1.4 - Straight (installAdbeRdrUpd814_all_incr.msp /qb-! /norestart)
    8.1.5 - Straight install (AdbeRdrUpd815_all_incr.msp /qb-! /norestart)
    8.1.6 - Straight install (AdbeRdrUpd816_all_incr.msp /qb-! /norestart)
So what is my upgrade path for Adobe Reader 8.1.7 - straight install (AdbeRdrUpd817_all_incr.msp /qb-! /norestart) or do I need to customize it using the Adobe Cusomization wizard to retain the desired settings? Appreciate any advice that anyone can offer. Thanks very much.

Thanks for your reply Deepak. That is what I was expecting but when I read the Adobe KB cpsid_49880 (link), it had me feeling somewhat unsure as to what is correct. The "quarterly" and "security" releases and unacceptable upgrade paths.
    Administrative Deployment
Due to the intentional difference between "Security" and "Quarterly" Updates, IT professionals desiring to deploy Acrobat or Reader products from an Administration Installation Point (AIP) must follow certain guidelines as noted below.
AIP Creation: Quarterly Updates cannot be applied to an AIP in which a Security Update was the most recently applied Update. Therefore, to deploy a new full Quarterly Update from an AIP, create an AIP (or use previous) which includes only Quarterly Updates.
To clarify, shown below are examples of acceptable and UNacceptable "AIP" configurations:
        Acceptable:      Acrobat 9.0.0 (Original Product) -> 9.1.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.1.1 (Security)
        Acceptable:      Acrobat 9.0.0 (Original Product) -> 9.1.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.1.2 (Quarterly)
        Unacceptable:  Acrobat 9.0.0 (Original Product) -> 9.1.0 (Quarterly) -> 9.1.1 (Security) -> 9.1.2 (Quarterly)
Note, Attempting to create an AIP using the last configuration shown above will fail. The failure, however, serves to prevent a usage of updates which is not recommended by Adobe.
If I am simply installing via SMS 2003 using the command "AdbeRdrUpd817_all_incr.msp /qb-! /norestart)" do the above rules not apply (given that the end users have a 8.1.6 installed?

  • Adobe Reader 11 stopped working and now will not install

For some reason my Adobe Reader 11 stopped working today when I tried to use it so I figured I would try to re-install it. Well, re-installing it helped none. The same error keeps re-occuring. Here is a screenshot of the error message I keep getting:

    Any solutions?
    Thanks!

You can try using this tool to remove all traces of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • I think I have a fake adobe reader. A real 9.5.5 is installed and a Adobe 9.5.5 w/a statement This update cannot be uninstalled.  No Size of program is listed

HHow do I remove a fake Adobe program?  It says adobe Reader -CPSD_83708  I am in the control panel Add/Remove

CPSID_83708 was an earlier Security fix for Adobe Reader; I don't think you can or need to remove it.  I think it will be removed if you uninstall Reader 9.x and install a more recent Reader version like X or XI.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.01 is asking me to install 9.5.2 update

I have Adobe Reader 11.0.01 installed on my computer.
However, it is telling me that I have an update for Version 9.5.2. What could be causing this?
    Thanks!

First, this is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum. You might find better info on the Reader forum. It looks like you never uninstalled AR9. Go back and be sure AR9 is uninstalled and its folder totally removed. You might want to just uninstall AR XI also and then reinstall later. For Acrobat there is a clean up tool after it has been uninstalled (http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html) that may be useful -- I don't know. There may be a similar tool for the Reader.

  • Attempt to open a PDF with Adobe Reader fails

I am using Adobe Reader X and have been having problems where double clicking on the PDF file does not automatically open the PDF file. Sometimes it will open it and on those days I will have no problem. Other days it just seems to refuse to open the PDF and I see several instances of AcroRd32.exe showing in Task Manager taking up varying degrees of memory. I tried to fix the problem by running the "repair my install", but that ended up breaking my only workaround which was to launch the Adobe Reader and then select the PDF file I wanted to open.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

I had the same problem just now and what worked for me was i archived a email in MS outlook using the Adopbe PDF dropdown menu and then I had full access to X Pro again.
    Hope that this helps

I am running a Power Mac G5.  Each time I try to install Acrobat Reader 9.4, I get an error message, #17535.  It states that an error occured in the Stuff Operation.  Could it be possible that the Stuffit program I am using is too old a version? I have Stuffit Expander ver. 10.0

In commandline, the command "installer -pkg install.pkg -target /" does work in installing pkg released by Apple. But it does not work in installing pkg released by adobe, such as "Adobe Reader XXX.pkg".
