Adobe Reader 11.0 starter ADM templates wont work

I dowloaded the ADM from http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/gpo.html and created a group policy . The group policy add registry entried in HKLM  but when I launch reader they are not working:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cIPM
bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc = 1
bShowMsgAtLaunch = 0
But if I go under HKCU the values are opposite:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\IPM
bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc = 0
bShowMsgAtLaunch = 1
Per Adobe provided starter ADM template the registries changes under HKLM but it does not work.

Hi fari23
The Registry value under HKLM should control the settings.. Please make sure you're creating the right key under cIPM

  • Adobe Reader won't start automatically

I've downloaded Adobe Reader to my Windows8 system,, but when I try to open a pdf file fom on-line it asks me which App I want to use, but Reader isn't listed as a choice.  When I clik look for other Apps on computer, I can't find Reader anywhere (not in programs, documents, etc).  It will not start automatically.  The only way I can't make it work is by Saving the pdf file, then going to my graphic start page and cliking the Adobe reader icon which has been there (and only there) since it was downloaded.  It's really time consuming and I have a lot of psf files I have to go back and delte from my downloads

the App version self-loaded and it worked initially whenever I tried to open a pdf file, but this is a new touchscreen Acer and I'm used to having actual programs, not Apps and I don't quite understand it yet...Of course like everything else with Windows 8, most thing don't work the way they used to  after you do any updates.   I'd love to go back to Windows 7, or even XP.  I got this for Christmas and so far (according to it's own software program), it's shut down a total of 418 times, the majority of causes had to do with Explorer.

  • Fast Start Quicktime Movies Wont Work

I dont know why Fast Start Quicktime movies wont work in iWeb. This exact same file I used in a site I created using Dreamweaver began the movie as soon as it reached a point where the entire movie could be viewed. Why not in iWeb?
    http://catchthemoment.net/simpsons/simpsons/Valentines.html
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

For whatever reason, iWeb publishes the quicktime movies with the autostart attribute at "false". To enable autostart, you will need to edit the html file after publishing and set the autostart attribute to "true". Even though autostart may have been enabled within the movie encoding process ("in the file"), I believe that this property is allowed to be overridden by the html attributes within which the file is published.
There is a table of all the attributes that can be changed floating around here somewhere. Keep in mind that these post-publishing changes that you might make will be overwritten in any subsequent changes that you might make to the page within iWeb.

  • Adobe reader XI freezes upon start up and wont work

    Hi
I am running Windows 7 home premium with 64bit system and Kaperskys antivirus.  Everytime I open adobe XI it freezes up and displays the thinking icon both on the mouse hover and right screen of the adobe reader.  I tried installing the older adobe X as a couple discussion threads advised.  The older adobe X works a couple times then does the same thing.  I need the reader to read and sign docs.  Does anyone know how to make it work on my comp???  Thank you!!!
    Cody, Bend, OR

Try these things for Reader XI...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Windows 8, set default application for example adobe reader, customize the start screen

I have two questions, Im going to deploy Windows 8 to our company, but have 2 big issues.
    1) I need to customize the start screen, but cant find anywhere in the gpo´s? How can I do this without sysprepping etc (deploying with SCCM2012 SP1)
    2) I need to set the default programs for adobe reader, mspaint etc, how can I do this? It doesnt work with the GPP and folder options, anyone have done this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Thanks for posting your question in the forum. First of all, if you want to deploy customized Windows 8 Start Screen for domain users, I suggest we could refer to the following similar threads
    and article.
Group Policy for Windows 8 Start

Regarding the second question, since you want to set the default programs via Group Policy but it didn’t work. Would you please let me know how did you configure the setting? Please refer to
the following steps to configure the GPO setting.
To create a new Open With preference item
    Open the
Group Policy Management Console. Right-click the Group Policy object (GPO) that should contain the new preference item, and then click
    Edit.
    In the console tree under
User Configuration, expand the Preferences folder, and then expand the
    Control Panel Settings folder.
    Right-click the
Folder Options node, point to New, and select
    Open With.
    In the
New Open With Properties dialog box, select an Action for  Group Policy to perform.
Enter Open With settings for Group Policy to configure or remove.
    Click the
Common tab, configure any options, and then type your comments in the
    Description box.
    Click
OK. The new preference item appears in the details pane.
For details, please refer to the following article.
    Configure an Open With Item
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732272.aspx
In addition, I suggest we could collect the following information to narrow down the cause of the issue.
    GPMC.log
    ==================
    a. On domain controller, click Start ->Run, type GPMC.MSC, it will load the GPMC console.
    b. Right click on "Group Policy Result" and choose wizard to generate a report for the problematic computer and user account (please place appropriately). (Choose computer and select
the proper user in the wizard)
    c. Right click
the resulting group policy result and click the "Save Report…" => save report to save the report to a HTML file.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe reader will not start. I can not work on my taxes.

I've tried uninstalling, uninstalling with the Adobe clean uninstall tool, repairing windows, repairing Adobe reader, and TDSSKiller, and nothing works. Every time I try to start the reader it comes up with the message: "acrobat failed to load its core DLL". I'm running windows 7, and have tried to restore the OS to a previous version, but the corrupt file always comes up as not being able to be repaired. Also get message from Reader_sl.exe that the Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000006.

Sort of. I can not update windows or adobe without risk of losing everything again. MS and Adobe should work together better if the IRS is going to require everybody to use Adobe. The computer guy changed a lot of settings on my computer in order to get Adobe 10 to work, and now my mail program and Internet explorer programs keep locking up. Adobe customer support is non-existant; i.e. sucks. This is Adobe/MS problem is forcing me to buy a new computer, probably just how they planned it.

  • Adobe Reader X process starts but application does not open

I have Adobe Reader X installed on a Windows 7 64bit OS.  Most of the time (95%) when I try to open pdf files that I've saved locally or on the web the process (AcroRd32.exe) will start, but the application and the file do not actually open.
Sometimes I can shutdown the computer and restart and I'm then able to open pdf files.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application, but the status does not change.  I still continue to have problems opening pdf files.
I have searched, but cannot find this issue in the discussion board...most users get some type of error.  I checked the event logs on Windows and there are no errors.

    Hi Antonyd22,
I've found the same issue using Acro Reader 9 on Windows XP.
Sometimes, when I try to open some PDF documents which are locally saved on my computer, the process AcroRd32.exe (and AcroRd32Info.exe) starts immideately, but the window is not shown for a long time (more than some minutes); trying to start Adobe Acrobat Reader from start menu, the window is shown immideately but it becames "not responding".
It seems that this behaviour is related to some recent file that it is not more accessible (perhaps because it was located on an unavailable network path).
To solve this issue, try to reduce the number of recent files (Edit -> Preferences -> Document -> set "Document in recently used list" to 1) and to open a PDF file that it is available locally (in order to set the last used file); then close and restart Adobe Acrobat.
In my opionion it is a bug that it is still present with Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.4.7.

  • Adobe reader will not start

I have a Windows 7 Laptop, 64 bits. Suddenly adobe reader will not function; it starts, a black field appears, and it vanishes.
Everything tried: erase program, reinstall, PC back to factory installation. Nothing helps. Any other suggestions?

The End User License Agreement "sticks" in Windows 7 frequently.
    Go to: C:/Programs (x86)/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
Look for the file named eula.exe (or just eula)
Double click it. Accept the agreement.
    Launch Reader.

  • Adobe reader will not start after installation, what is wrong ?

When i try to start it - it comes up for a few seconds and then it close down

Please close all the instances of Adobe Reader (AcroRd) running in the Task Manger then try to launch it again.

  • Adobe Reader don't start. Linux. Computer 64 bits

I have installed the adobe acrobat reader in my computer (HP - Ubuntu 7.04 - Feisty Fawn - 64 bits), but it doesn't start.
When I try to start it from terminal emulator:
    rober@rober-laptop:~$ acroread
/usr/local/Adobe/Acrobat7.0/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared libraries: libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
I search for the libgdk_pix.... but it is not available for 64 bits.
Is it possible to use acroread in 64 bits linux system?
Can anyone say me which is the way to resolve this problem?

History notice: Problem still reproducing with Adobe Reader 9.5.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 (April 2013).
Solution: The fix is to simply add the 32 bit version of the missing library. To be sure that you get them all consisstently, just:
        sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Note: Solution seen on this article from the judsonsnotes.com website.

  • Download of Adobe Reader X never starts.

Platform: Windows 7 with AntiVirus Software: avast! Version 4.8 Professional running.
Possible related circumstance: Received messages that Adobe reader was out of date.
But , was unable to initiate a download.
When the Download button is clicked a page explaining the installation steps is presented - the download never starts.
    My actions to date:
    1) reader_sl was found and removed - no change in download response.
    2) Adobe Reader was uninstalled.
    3) I have not seen any chatter about this issue.

What is your current version (before you uninstalled) of Adobe Reader?
From where are you trying to download?

  • Adobe reader won't start

On my virgin system (no malware), win 7 x64 was a good working old adobe reader 9.
Offered an update, I accepted for update XI. And since them won't run any adobe reader.
I tried reinstall, repair, cleaning tool, restart you offered before.
I tried it on a different but similar, virgin machine and received the same error.
Came up a frosty adobe reader window and after 5 sec it disappears. Nothing helps...
I don't want to complaining about your free reader, but... It was not a great job...

    Three things to try...
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • We downloaded Adobe Reader XI and our PC no longer works properly.

We run Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3, and use Internet Explorer 8.  We once were running a Trend Micro AntiVirus that seemed capable of producing some issues, but we believe it to be disabled.  Before downloading Reader XI, we were able to easily use PDF files in many ways.  When there was a web site we were using that offered us a look at a document, such as a statement, or a blank state government report form, we could click on it, and the pdf would pop up in a window associated with Explorer, where we could view it, and then decide whether to print it.  We can no longer do that.  We still can use some pdf's, but not pdf's that are made available to us via the Internet in that fashion.  A few weeks ago, upon startup, we saw a message on our desktop that we ought to download the latest Adobe Reader. We downloaded Adobe Reader XI. The problem immediately started. We uninstalled Reader XI. We reinstalled. The problem persisted immediately upon reinstall.  In between the uninstall and reinstall, we looked at our system attempting to find an older version of Reader we could reinstall in preference to XI, but we saw nothing under our Control Panel Install/Uninstall programs, and so nothing on our hard drive.  Now, when we attempt to click on a "View" hyperlink on many websites, the pop up window, that would have at one time showed us the document or pdf file, pops up blank, turns dark gray, and stays inert for 2 or 3 minutes, followed by the appearance of the error message stating that we have a problem with our programming, or, if the Reader is already running, shut it, and try again.  The reader is not already running.  We have tried rebooting and re-trying to view, but we get the same error message.  We have some old pdf's stored on our hard drive.  We can double click the file names and open and read and print the files in Reader XI.  We can also add new pdf's to our hard drive if they arrive as attachments to e-mails; or, if at a web site offering a view of a document we need, if the web site offers also an ALTERNATE hyperlink by which we may DOWNLOAD the file, then, we can get the file via download, and open it.  The Reader XI is not inoperable.  It will not work with various websites in Explorer 8 that offers a VIEW hyperlink rather than a DOWNLOAD hyperlink.  What can we do? If we download Google Chrome, will it work?

Internet Explorer is, as we in the web design world call it, "the problem child" of browsers. It seems as the rest of the world embraces HTML 5 and CSS 3, Microsoft has been throwing a tantrum and hoping everyone will go back to 1998 standards... "It ain't gonna happen."
Given that the view/download worked prior to installing the newest Reader, it's probably a matter of IE not working with the latest plugin. Since XP (which is just ten short months away from being "sunsetted" by Microsoft) won't work with IE9 or IE10, you're stuck with 8, and I'd recommend a "downgrade" to an older build, like 10 or even 9.
First, you'll want to run the Adobe Cleaner to remove all traces of Reader XI.
Then download the offline installer for 10 and reinstall.
