Adobe reader 7 hangs, task manager shows it is running twice

I am using Adobe Reader 7
I have a problem, when I click on a ,pdf file it opens but it is locked, if I try to zoom or do anything else it freezes up, I check in task manager and it shows that AR is running twice, if I oen a pdf and leave it, and dont zoom or do anything else after about a 2 minutes it will work fine,
anybody know a fix for this?
I have unistalled and reinstalled tried different versions etc, but nothing works.
TIA

Yes it runs twice, if I let it go for about 2 minutes and do not touch it or try to do anything with it, it will start to work and it will only show up once in the task manager, however if I open it and try to scroll, zoom, or even close it, it will freeze completely.

  • Some emails from a particular sender causing Outlook 2010 to hang, task manager shows memory use spikes

Posting this to the Exchange forum because I'm hoping there's a server-side solution.
SOME emails received from an external sender (gmail.com address, not sure the mail client) are causing Outlook 2010 to hang when trying to open the email.  Outlook becomes non-responsive when viewing the email through the preview pane or by double-clicking
the email.  If I open Task Manager I see that the outlook.exe process memory use starts increasing very quickly.  As far as I know the only resolution is to end the task and re-open Outlook (and avoid that email).
I've found several excellent threads on these same symptoms, but there seems to be a variety of causes.  I've tried a bunch of things so far:
     - Tried opening from another system on our network running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried opening from OWA, opens fine.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST, then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, but still running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, running Outlook 2013, email opens fine.
     - Tried setting Outlook to open all emails as PLAIN TEXT, opens fine.
Systems are running the latest Outlook 2010 SP and patches, and running a variety of OS's.  Only common denominator seems to be Outlook 2010.
I was hoping to find a way to convert incoming emails from this sender to open as Plain Text using a Hub Transport rule, but cannot find a way to do it.
Unfortunately I have no control over the sender, so don't know what could be triggering the problem.
Can anyone advise on a possible solution?  Any way to someone convert emails from a particular sender to Plain Text automatically?

Either you inform the sender to configure in sender's outlook to send only to you in plain text please check this
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/change-the-message-format-to-html-rich-text-or-plain-text-HA101992313.aspx
    Or
Call a macro in your outlook example below. Please check
    this for details
    Dim msg As MailItem
    For Each msg In myNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox).Items
       If msg.Unread = True And _
         msg.SenderName = "Linda Cooper" Then
    Item.BodyFormat = olFormatPlain
       Else
         ' Message doesn't meet criteria.
       End If

  • After updating Firefox to 3.6.14 it will not start, not even in safe mode after rebooting. Task Manager shows no Firefox running. I tried uninstalling Firefox & then reinstalling it. Stll won't start.

I get only an error message: " XULRunner-
Error: Platform version 1.9.2.13 is not compatible with minVersion >=1.9.2.14
    maxVersion<=1.9.2.14 "
    My system: Windows XP
I've tried the tips on the Firefox help pages.

I withdraw my 'I have this problem too'. My error was different, but a restart fixed whatever it was.

  • Firefox stopped running on my pc after the last update....task manager shows it as running but nothing shows up on the screen

The browser just will not open

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.<br />

  • When opening an XPS file, IE hangs. Task manager shows XPSViewer.exe taking 50% of CPU.

I've seen this twice now on older XP machines (sadly, some of my users DO have to run XP) so I figured I should document it, if only because the fix is so non-intuitive.
By default, XPS documents open in IE with a helper called XPSViewer.exe. You can also open them in a separate standalone viewer by installing the Microsoft XPS Essentials thing
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11816
But that doesn't work in IE, and my users needed it to.
Sometimes, users report that when they open an XPS file, the browser hangs. Checking task manager shows that XPSViewer.exe is taking up 50% of CPU cycles. Ending the process allows IE to respond, but the document is not displayed.
The first hint at a solution was from:
    http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/273861-cannot-open-xps-files/
"This issue occurs because the non-administrator user account cannot access the %WINDIR%\System32 folder. By default, WPF writes the output file to the %WINDIR%\System32 folder. The %WINDIR%\System32 folder requires administrator permissions.
When the non-administrator account tries to access this folder, the WPF caching code is triggered. This code causes the screen to flicker.
In 32-bit versions of the Windows Server 2003 operating system, the output file is D3d9caps.dat. In 64-bit versions of the Windows Server 2003 operating system, the output file is D3d9caps64.dat. "
It got me thinking that maybe i could modify the rights to the file instead of applying the hotfix...
After doing that the user could open the .xps file successfully!. But after closing the xps (internet explorer uses xpsviewer.exe to display the file) the file d3d9caps.dat disappeared from the system32 folder...
The next time the .xps file was opened by the user, the d3d9caps.dat file was not created in system32 folder as one might expect, but instead in the more appropriate path "...Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data" folder.
So in fact, all i had to do to fix this problem was deleting/renaming the d3d9caps.dat file in the system32 folder.
So all you have to do is delete (or for safety, rename) that d3d9caps.dat file and try again! Works a treat!

In the %WINDIR%\System32 folder, find d3d9caps.dat or d3d9caps64.dat
and rename it to anything. Bamn. Fixed. That easy.

  • Reader x or xi does not load; task manager shows 750 kb memory used

I am using windows 7 home premium 64 bits, and adobe reader x or xi sometimes does not load. However, the task manager shows that AcroRd32.exe is loaded, but only using aroung 750 kb of memory.
I must restart windows, or at least close sesion and sometimes reader loads properly.  Sometimes the  computer must be restarted twide to adobe function.
Does anybody has an idea why this is happening?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue.
I am on Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. I have updated Adobe Reader to latest version, and do not have other older versions of Reader installed. I have tried opening reader by itself using Run As Administrator, as well as Run as Another User, and also in XP SP3 compatibility mode. I have tried to force PDF files to be opened in a browser window by right clicking them, selecting Open With and then selecting Internet Explorer. Nothing works. I have had this issue before, and SOMETIMES it will help if I uninstall Adobe Reader and reinstall, but even after re-imaging my entire PC, this issue comes back.
As with original poster, all I get when trying to open PDF files is AcroRd32.exe showing in Task Manager and using between 700k and 1785K of memory. No matter how long I wait, nothing else happens.
    This is getting very frustrating.
Seeing as I cannot load Adobe Reader at all, is there a way to disable protected mode without loading Adobe Reader (like with registry setting)?

  • Task manager show process from all user

    Hi All,
    Need a help.
I need to enable "task manager show all show process" for all normal users(view like XP) irrespective of admin or not.
Can any one help me how to go about this through GPO. I searched a lot in net but could not found any convincing solution for this.

This is not possible. User processes are isolated from each other. Only administrators can retrieve information about processes from other users. Either make your users local admin, or tell them this is not possible.
This is because of the security design which isolates users from other processes (service processes and other users' processes)
there are many things that don't work anymore. For example, on XP it was possible to give service applications a user interface (for example for disgnostic or development purposes). From Vista onwards this is no longer possible because allowing users to
interact with service applications is a security risk.
There are many such changes, and you have to update your processes accordingly.

    What is your operating system?
To install/update Adobe Reader or Acrobat you need to supply your computer's Administrator password.

When we clicked as usual on the firefox icon the egg-timer started then went off. Nothing started up.
Checking the Task Manager showed firefox.exe briefly using the CPU then it dropped off the list.
We tried to uninstall and reload from the mozilla site (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/). Installation seemed to work ok, but the same problem recurred when we tried to start firefox.
Did this again, this time removing bookmarks, etc. same result.
Tried to use the profile manager - the screen came up but disappeared before we could use it.
Same thing happened when we tried to start in safe mode - screen briefly appeared but then disappeared.
Tried googling in IE to solve the problem but nothing seems to apply.
Have run all security checks but no apparent bugs or problems.
Have had to abandon firefox and use another browser. How do we get it back please ?

I typed in data into the highlighted text box, and then tried to print my form.  However, when printed, the copy only showed a portion of my answer.  Is there a way to expand Adobe Reader's highlighted text to show my full response, or should I make my responses only as long as the highlighted portion allows?

While printing any pdf file it will print the visible text only. To overcome this, the form needs to be dynamic so that it expands in layout while entering more data. Usually dynamic forms are developed by Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
