Adobe Reader 8.0 - Heads UP!

I just installed the Adobe Reader 8.0 for Mac (specifically 10.4 Tiger releases) on 10.5 Leopard, to see if it would work and what would be 'broken'.
I can say that printing was broken on my machine, and the graphics didn't look right. Preview looked better!
Just a 'Heads UP!' for any one thinking to install Adobe Reader on Leopard, who have installed the 8.0 version, or who may have had it on Tiger when they upgraded to Leopard.

Matt, have you tried it to see what isn't working with 8.1.1 and Leopard?
Not yet. There have been enough improvements in Preview that make it more useable for me. I haven't had much time to experiment with programs the developer has said won't be fully functional.

  • Adobe Reader 8 prints head-to-toe on duplex printer...

I'm working with Adobe Reader 8.1.1 and Windows XP Pro. Using HP Color LaserJet 2605dn, which has automatic duplex printing capability.
I have PDF files that contain several pages. When I set the 2605's "Preferences" to print duplex (print on both sides of the page), it prints the pages "head-to-toe" - page 1 is right side up, page 2 (on the back of page 1) is upside down, page 3 (on the 2nd sheet of paper) is right side up, page 4 (on the back of page 3) is upside down, and so on.
I've experimented with the various settings in Reader's Print dialog box, but nothing makes all the pages print right side up.
I don't know the source of the problem: the multi-page PDFs I'm trying to print were not all created by the same person or software. Duplex printing works correctly when printing multi-page documents from other kinds of software (e.g., Microsoft Word and various databases).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, John

I put this aside. The only thing I can think of, is installing earlier verisons and testing those. I'm not sure Adobe will assist on this issue since Adobe Reader is a free program. I'll post any solutions that come this way.

  • Cannot force Safari to use Adobe Reader in Leopard for pdf

Vanguard.com only supports download of pdfs on a Mac if Safari is using Adobe Reader. (Yes, that's totally awesome.)
I can't seem to force Safari to do that; it will only use Safari's built-in pdf reader.
    - In Adobe Reader 8.1.1's preferences, the option "Display PDF in browser using" is greyed out.
    - In Adobe Reader, selecting Help -> Repair Adobe Reader Installation says there is nothing to repair.
    - /Library/Internet Plug-ins and ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins do not contain AdobePDFViewer.plugin, nor can I find it anywhere on my machine.
    - I've reinstalled Adobe Reader 8.1.1 a number of times already, to no avail.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Is there a way to add a header/footer in adobe reader?

No. Adobe Acrobat can do it.

  • PDF portfolio view in Adobe reader

    Hi,
I recently created a PDF portfolio for a co-worker using Acrobat 9.0 Pro. I used the Grid with File Preview layout and added a header that appears right above the grid. Everything works well except that when my co-worker opens the PDF portfolio in Adobe Reader,  I think it's 9.0, the preview pane takes up most of the screen so that the grid and header are barely visible. Of course, all my co-worker has to do is move the divider over to the right so that the divider is around the middle of the screen, then he can clearly see the complete grid along with the header.
Is there anyway to make my PDF portfolio open up in Reader so that the dividing line is right in the middle between the grid and preview pane so that the grid and header are clearly visible without having to move the divider? Also, I encountered the same problem when I tried to use a welcome window. In Acrobat 9.0, the welcome window is dead center over the grid and the preview pane is invisible unless I click to proceed. However, when I open the PDF portfolio in Reader, the welcome window only appears in the grid section and again, the gird section is mostly covered up by the preview pane.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems with Adobe Reader and Flash Player

I had an Adobe update last Monday and, ever since then, I can't view documents (eg credit card statements) on screen and sites that I previously visited regularly without problem suddenly say that I need to have Adobe Flash Player installed. I've downloaded Adobe Flash Player and it says it's installed correctly but when I return to the site, it still says I need Adobe Flash Player. I've also tried doing an uninstall first and then an instal but the same thing happens. I've run disk first aid and it found a problem with the Head which it fixed but I still can't open documents using Adobe in Safari. Adobe Plug ins tells me that the Internet Access plug in is not loaded but when I ran 'repair Adobe Reader installation", it said there were no missing components detected and repair was not needed. I don't know if it's relevant but I've been having problems with Safari for several weeks, quitting 3 or 4 times a day, mainly when I'm switching from Safari to another programme such as Entourage or Excel.

    Hi Carolyn
I don't think I made it clear on the original post that I'm having problems with both Adobe Reader AND Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately, all the Adobe Reader sites are confidential so I can't give you an illustration on that but for the Adobe Flash Player, try www.jacquielawson.com/ - you can preview cards without being signed in. With the Adobe Reader problems, I get a picture of a blank 'piece of paper' with a small blue square in the top right hand corner that has a white question mark inside it. The first time this happened to me, I was on the UK Inland Revenue site trying to print out some end of year forms. I phoned the Revenue's helpline and they said to try doing a 'save as' to my desktop. It seemed bizarre - saving a blank piece of paper - but lo and behold, when I opened it on my desktop, the forms appeared exactly as normal. However, I've since tried this 'save as' technique with my credit card statement and I still get a blank piece of paper with a blue square and white question mark when I open the desktop copy.
Thanks for your help and patience. I really appreciate it.

  • Printing problem with Adobe Reader 10.1.9

I received a PDF document that I opened in Adobe Reader.  The document contains a pop-up note (which contains a scanned image of a signature).  When I print the document, the pop-up note signature is not printed.  How can I print the document with the pop-up note containing the signature?

I'll add that we are running Apache webserver. I will post the documents to an IIS webserver and test the results. Also the following is the simplest of html pages to recreate the problem. I am simply testing this running it as a static page off of my desktop yet with the PDF documents hosted on the apache server.

  • WHY DO I HAVE A WONDERSHARE WATERMARK WHEN USING MY ADOBE READER X?

I just completed a reformat and re-install of my operating system. My next step was to download and install adobe reader 10 which seemed to go just fine. I opened up my adobe reader and up comes a watermark from something called "wondershare". Why is this watermark present and why can't I remove it ( this crappy wondershare site says I can remove the watermark for a fee)? Keep in mind that I downloaded my adobe reader directly from the adobe website (I did not use any third party site or downloader). Someone please help me!
I downloaded directly from the adobe website. I am using a fresh install of Windows Vista (installed from pre-made recovery disks back to factory specs) after a complete hard drive format (including the recovery partition).

Derp Derp Derp Now why didn't I think of that. Sure enough Bernd Alheit you were correct. Actually I realized that the document itself came from an alternate site instead of my trusted site. I deleted the pdf and re-downloaded it from my trusted site and no more watermark. Thanks for knock on the back of my head!

  • Workaround for Invalid Certificate with Acrobat 9.0 and Adobe Reader v.7.0?

    Hello!
In Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Professional, is there currently a workaround for the following scenario?:
At our company, the source document is created in Word and then a PDF document is created using Adobe v.9.0. My colleague, who uses Adobe 9.0 Professional, places a certificate in the Header of the PDF document.
When this document goes out for sign off, the users only have Adobe Reader v. 7.0. Once these users open the PDF document and try to place their signature in to the digital signature fields, the certificate in the document becomes invalid.
Is there a way to save off the PDF in v.9 in different formats (A, F, etc.).
Would saving off the PDF in another format retain the validity of the certificate in the PDF document when other users with Reader v.7.0 try to sign the document?
    Thx again for everyone's help!

  • Adobe Reader 9.4,10,11 crash when opening certain pdfs. Faulting module ntdll.dll

We've started having issues with a certain type of pdf file crashing reader anytime it's opened. It will open fine about 1/10 of the time, the rest of the time it either straight crashes or we get a message that a drawing error occured and the pdf isn't rendered properly. I've tested with Reader 9.4, 10.1.2, 10.1.4, and the latest 11 release. I've tested under WinXP x86 and Win7 x64 with the same results. It does apparently open fine under Windows Server 2008 R2 but the issue is occuring on our desktops and opening from the server was only a test.
I'm unable to share the pdf for others to research since it contains Protected Health Information. The pdf however does have a header with the patient info and then a graph similar to a EKG strip, the header always renders fine but when we get the error that a drawing error occured it's the graph thats corrupt. Sumatra/Foxit/Evince can open the document just fine. I've tried disabling every feature and plugin in Adobe Reader with no luck. I've tried to run the pdf through some tests and I did find there are 2 errors, both are "[error] Object shall end with 'endobj' statement" but I'm unable to find anything that can autocorrect the issue.
We have thousands of those pdf's, they were ran through a Print 2 PDF converter (Win2PDF 7.0.46 - 2.6.7.1465.3 http://www.win2pdf.com) using pdf version 1.4. Anyone have any ideas on what else to try? I'm at a loss and I'd rather not have to install an alternate PDF reader on 6k workstations (although with all the headaches Adobe Reader has caused me that would be a welcome change).
    Jason

I've tried Acrobat and it won't open the file either, same app crash in ntdll.dll. But I know what you're saying but I don't have the source documents to run through conversion with another application.
I'm not sure how the process was performed but we had a vendor come in and convert all of our old clinical EMR data into PDF's and then index into OnBase. We are working with the vendor for a solution but so far they haven't found nothing. I recommended to them to update their Win2PDF program but I don't think thats an option on the thousand, if not millions of documents already converted.
Why is every other PDF reader able to open the file except Adobe Reader?

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.2 - PDFs won't open in IE 8 & IE 9

The recent Adobe Reader 9.4.2 is causing issues with PDFs opening in IE 8 and 9 browsers.  Prior to this update our users have had no issues with opening PDFs generated by our website.
Our website generates USPS labels using Siberix ReportWriter software.  We have not released any updates for at least a month.  Again, before the release of Adobe Reader 9.4.2, there was no issues with our website's PDFs opening in IE browsers.
    User System Specs:
Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate
    Adobe Reader 9.4.2
Internet Explorer 8 - "File Download" window issue
Internet Explorer 9 - "File Download" window issue
    Firefox 3.6.13 - No Issues
Chrome 9.0.597.98 (with Adobe Reader 9.4.2 plugin enabled and Chrome PDF Viewer disabled) - No Issues
The "File Download" window states the following (in addition to a Save and a Cancel button): "The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program.  It is either corrupt or it has an incorrect file type.  As a security precaution, it is recommended that you cancel the download. ..."
We have the following workarounds to address this issue with our customers, but they are not ideal:
    Update to Adobe Reader X
Disable "Display PDF in browser" Reader option
    Don't update Adobe Reader 9 to 9.4.2
    Install other PDF Reading software.
Any solutions to this issue would be appriciated.
    Thanks

We are experiencing the same problem, as I mentioned below. I did some research and experimentation, and have a ... workaround. It's not completely satisfactory, but we will go with it until we have a complete solution. Perhaps the following will help others and spur some research in the right direction.
First, a quick review. The problem does not occur with PDFs located on disk; it only occurs with direct streaming of PDF data. Let's also note that the problem does NOT occur with other browsers, e.g. FireFox. So ... technically the problem is not an Adobe Reader problem and we're all on the wrong forum.
My specialty is databases and I'm certainly no expert in this area, but from what I'm able to gather the problem is instead with how IE is recognizing and responding to the MIME type of the streamed data. We're all setting the contenttype to "application/pdf" (or similar) or we wouldn't even be here. But I'm concluding that something - some windows update - has changed the way IE on clients or (in my case) IIS on the server is handling that data stream. If any of you experiencing this issue have servers other than IIS, then the problem is on the client side, I'd say.
Aaaaaanyway, the following articles are old, but helped me:
    http://forums.asp.net/p/1036628/1436084.aspx
    http://www.techper.net/2008/02/27/4-ways-to-stream-pdf-and-some-tips/
To cut to the chase, the workaround we're going with for now is to add the following to the http response header (this is C#/ASP.NET code):
    Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=myfile.pdf");
That causes a popup dialog to appear asking the user to open or save the PDF, something that is familiar to most everyone. If the user asks to open the file, it appears in a browser window just as it did before this problem occurred. Again, this is a temporary solution, but at least the user can see the PDF data in a browser with one extra mouse click.
If an Adobe tech support person or anyone with more experience in this area knows the final solution, I'd LOVE to hear it. Please reply here or in email.
    Thanks and good luck all.

  • Managing PDF's without Adobe Reader

Now that I have a new MBP and 10.6 I'm without Adobe Reader and everything is going to "preview".
How do I get long documents to open with a straight on view for every page instead of preview showing them side ways? I can get each single page to turn so that I can see them right on, but that's impossible to do when you have in excess off 300 pages.
With Adobe Reader you could even use the numbers section to move to an exact page. Is that possible with preview?

With the document in question open, make sure the sidebar is showing (View -> Sidebar -> Show Sidebar) and make sure the view (in View -> Sidebar) is set to either Contact Sheet or Thumbnails. Select the thumbnails for the pages that need rotating, or use Edit -> Select All, and then rotate.
BTW, in the future you should be a bit more specific than saying you want "a straight on view"... that's extremely imprecise language, and it took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. I had this vision in my head of looking at the edge of a stack of paper and couldn't figure out what in Preview might have looked like that...

  • How do I get to full-screen mode in Adobe Reader 10.4.4 for ipad mini? It's vanished.

I updated Adobe Reader and now double tapping activates zoom. There does not seem to be any way to go to full-screen mode, and reading with the header (time and battery life icons) is unpleasant.

Thanks for taking the time to post -- especially to a thread that was started almost a year ago.  I'll give your suggestion a try.

  • How to force using the adobe reader to view the PDF by javascript / PHP / HTML?

I use the standard way to embed a pdf to my website, however, when I open it the browser will choose the default pdf viewer instead of the adobe reader. I can change it manually by looking at the browser option but it would not be nice if the website visitor need to do this manually. So I would like to know how to force the browser to open the PDF in adobe by using some HTML header / javascript / php or any parameter in object tag. Thanks.
    <object id = 'zoomPage' type='application/pdf' data= '" + sourceFolder + "SingTao/2013/08/17/0/0/A/Content/pdf/pdf_" + currZoomPageNo + ".pdf#toolbar=1&navpanes=0&statusbar=0&messages=0&pagemode=read'><p>The PDF can not display</p></object>

I know this problem related to the browser behaviour so I would target only :Chrome firefox and IE 9+ (it is ideal if IE8 can also adopt the solution) thanks

  • Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file - either not supported file type or file damaged

On March 5th, I started getting the Adobe Reader error message "Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file because it is either not supported file type or the file has been damaged.
I get this when I try to open the pdf file as an attachment in Outlook 2013 from my G-Mail account.  If I save the attachment and then try to open the pdf document, I get the same error4.
I get this error message with every pdf file that now comes to me in Outlook.
If I log on to my G-Mail I am able to open the pdf document.  If I also save the attachment to my computer, I do not get the error message when I open the pdf file. This would suggest the file is okay
This would lead me to believe the problem maybe with Outlook.
