Adobe Reader 8.2.5 - Disable "Print to File"

Does anyone know how to disable the "print to file" option in Adobe Reader 8.2.5? I'm guessing it's just a registry entry somewhere but I could not find it.  A registry setting would be great, then it could easily be deployed company wide.  What is happening is sometime's a user will check the box, by mistake and then the "output to file" will open instead of actual printing.  It's an easy fix over the phone, but if the box were greyed out it would be prevented in the first place.  Any ideas? I've put a screen shot of the option I would like greyed out.

This option is available via Windows on all printer drivers with almost all applications if you know where to look---Especially Postscript printers like yours. This is an OS and/or Printer Driver question that has nothing to do with Reader. Please repost in a Microsoft forum.

  • Adobe reader 11.0.5 - cannot print pdf file to network printer

I have a 64 bit HP Pavilion a6230n PC running Windows 7, fully updated. I have wireless connection to a home file/printer server. My printer, a Brother HL-5140, is connected via USB to the file/printer server. All my other Windows programs capable of printing can print on the network printer - all except adobe reader. Adobe Reader sees the printer and all printing processes appear to be sending the file to the printer, however, the printer never gets the document. I've tried printing as a document, in which case the document sits in the printer queue until I delete it. If I send it as an image, each queue entry is deleted after adobe thinks it has printed. Again, nothing ever prints on the printer, and again, no other program running on my computer has any problems printing to this printer.
I would appreciate any help with this problem.
    Addendum - 4 Nov 13:
I uninstalled adobe reader 11 and installed a much earlier version, and now I can print pdf files. Clearly the printing issue is with the current versions of adobe reader.

This phenomenon can happen with PDF files that have errors in them.  Adobe Reader or Acrobat may be able to fix these errors, but if you close the application, it will ask to save the corrected file.  If you save it once, that should no longer occur when you open it again.
This is just one explanation, but it doesn't explain why that happens with every PDF you have.
Test: does it also happen with a PDF that is not supposed to contain any errors: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?

  • Adobe Reader 9.2 will only print to file

Since installing the 9.2 update, I am unable to print a pdf.  Each time I try, I receive the print to file dialog box.  I have never experienced any similar problem with prior versions of Reader.  I am ruinning Windows XP SP2 with an HP 1320 laserjet printer.  Current PCL and post script drivers are installed.
Can anyone tell me what the issue is and how to print PDF's through Reader once again?  Thanks.
    Birdie Bob

Thanks graffiti.  I did not realize that Reader had its own print dialog and there is no print to file option on the regular printer dialog.  I opened Reader, opened a pdf, and clicked on print to pull up the reader print dialog.  The print to file option was displayed in the lower left and it was selected -- I assume that came as a default setting when 9.2 was downloaded (I don't remember seeing or selecting it on this or any prior versions).
At any rate, I deselected the option and the pdf's now print normally.  Thanks for the help and problem resolved.

  • Adobe Reader XI enterprise deploy-disable display PDF in browser?

There appears to be conflicting information about Adobe Reader XI and how to pre-configure the "disable display pdf in browser".
The Enterprise Administration Kit/Guide says you can do this via the MSI Property:
    DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION = YES
However, acrobat help, indicates you can ONLY do this manually via individual browser add-ons.
I have the redestributable version from Adobe and I used the Enterprise Guide to make the AIP and used the Customization Wizard to create the package and am using the properties line when the msi is installed to disable the display
    so which one is right?

I am out of the office until 1/22/13.

  • Can't print from Adobe Reader, "no pages selected to print"

I can't print PDFs from Adobe Reader. I can print from any other program, just not Adobe Reader. When I click "Print", I get an error that says, "The document could not be printed". I click "OK" and then it says, "There were no pages selected to print". Even if I try to print a page at a time, it still won't work.  I have a Mac and my Adobe Reader is up to date. Any ideas?

You should really ask in the Reader forum. Be sure to indicate the OS and printer you are trying to use, particularly if it is a network printer. Provide information about having installed the most recent printer driver if appropriate. When you open the print menu in Reader, do you have any printers in the list?

  • Adobe Reader DC, doesn't disable "Display PDF Document in the web browser" when option is unchecked.

The option under Accessibility>Setup Assistanct to uncheck the "Display PDF Document in the web browser" doesn't correctly disable Display PDF in browser when unchecked, it still defaults to opening in Internet Explorer even after restarting the browser.  Confirmed this tested agianst with IE 8, 9, 10 and 11 with the same behavior.  Moving back to Reader 11.0.10 and using this same setting works flawlessly.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have a user on Adobe Reader X.  whenever they open a .pdf file, the form fields do not auto-fill until you click in the box.  Is there a setting that can be changed to make the form open properly?

Sounds like the form fields were filled in on a Mac using Mac Preview. This cannot be fixed in Reader only Acrobat. Ask the person who filled in the form to redo their work in Adobe Reader.

  • When will Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices support 3D PDF files?

When will Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices support 3D PDF files?

There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?
Static XFA uses the PDF markup language for content and form fields, so users can view the documents in Adobe Reader for iOS, but we currently do not properly handle filling, saving, and submitting those forms. I have improving our handling of Static XFA on my roadmap, but cannot offer any specific date yet (sorry, policy plus actual uncertainty). I know that there are some other apps that partially support Static XFA, though I do not know how complete their support is. If you can even open the XFA document in Adobe Reader for iOS, it is likely Static XFA.
Dynamic XFA is effectively a JavaScript application packaged inside a PDF wrapper, which generates layout and form fields via code and requires a significant engine to support this. Support for Dynamic XFA is unfortunately not currently on our roadmap for iOS due to the nature of the technology, and our concern that any implementation we try likely will not pass Apple's restriction against installing something that allows other "apps" to be downloaded and executed from within it. The LiveCycle team is exploring solutions for our enterprise customers wanting to use Dynamic XFA from mobile devices as part of their server offering, but I cannot offer any insight here. To my knowledge, there are no applications that handle Dynamic XFA other than Adobe Reader for the desktop platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

Updated to Adobe Reader 9.1 and some web-based files will not open.  I receive a blank page with the message "The system cannot find the file specified."  Is there a solution or setting for this?

Save the file locally, open the Reader application and try to open it from there. If it still doesn't work provide the full details of your OS, Reader version and the exact error message you're getting when you try to open the file.

  • Uninstalling Adobe Reader 8.1.2  causes loss of file association

I used Adobe Customization Wizard 8 to prepare my own install of Adobe Reader 8.1.2. I checked "Make Acrobat the default view if both Acrobat and Reader are installed." and then install the Reader on a machine with Adobe Acrobat 8.1.1 Professional. It works fine, PDFs are opened with Acrobat by default, however when I uninstall Adobe Reader (Add/Remove Programs), for some reasons file association with Acrobat is lost and I need to manually associate them with Adobe Acrobat.
Do you have any idea what could be the reason for it and if there is any fix/workaround?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Ewa

Re-install Acrobat, removing reader can cause other issues with Acrobat
    8. This is one of the reasons Adobe doesn't recommend more than one
Acrobat related program on a Windows machine.

  • How do i make adobe reader my default to open any pdf file

how do i make adobe reader my default to open any pdf file?

What is your current default?  If Adobe Acrobat (X or XI), you can set it in your preferences.
If it's another program, reinstalling or repairing Adobe Reader will set it to the default program.

  • How to disable overprint feature in Adobe Reader 9 or 10 when printing?

    Hi,
I have a PDF document with overlapping objects (black text on top of pink text).  When I print from Adobe Reader 9 or 10 using any PCL color print driver (Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit), the pink text shows through, regardless of "Use Overprint Preview" setting in Adobe Reader Preferences.  Is there a way to turn this off for printing using any setting in Adobe Reader 9 or 10?  I don't want the pink text to show through, which is what is displayed on screen when I set "User Overprint Preview" to Never.  Print As Image didn't help either.
    Thanks!

You are, I'm afraid, chasing an impossible security that cannot exist. Many have sought this, but it just isn't there -- and there is so much more than the save button involved.
