Adobe reader 9.0 + Adobe Acrobat 5.0 on Internet explorer 7.0 ?

I possess Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to create some PDF documents
I possess Adobe Reader 9.0 to read some PDF
The 2 programs operate WindowsXP SP3 well.
I don't manage to open a PDF file with Internet Explorer 7.0 = he looks for has open Acrobat instead of Reader.
How to keep the 2 versions and to correct the Internet parameters so that he uses Reader?

This is not a permanent solution and is not supported by Adobe. When you have two products that share quite a few OS-level interactions that span such a wide gap in major revisions, unexpected behavior will happen. The two products simply were not designed to work together, especially when they are that many revisions apart.

Adobe Reader XI use 100 % of the processor in Internet Explorer

We have sequenced Adobe Reader XI with App-V 5.0 SP2 hotfix 5. This package is deployed in our Windows 2008 R2 Citrix XenApp 7.6 server. When we open a PDF document in Internet Explorer, after about 10 seconds IE freeze and this process use 100% of one processor.
The first 10 seconds, we can do watever we want with the PDF file.
We are searching a fix for this problem for many weaks, with no success. We have virtualized Adobe Reader X and we have no problem with PDF in Internet Explorer.
I know that installing Reader localy will solve the problem, but we want to virtualised the maximum of application without installing it natively.

Adobe Reader XI seems to cause error messages with Internet Explorer

Have just upgraded to Adobe Reader XI and now I get two error messages everytime I close a Internet Explorer window. It was not a problem with the earlier Reader and does not occurr when I uninstall Reader XI. I just close the error messages and there is no other problem. Is there an easy fix?

Thanks acro123 - I am unable to post the error messages as it is no longer happening!!!!! When I started the computer this morning the first thing was a automatic update to Reader XI by Adobe and now no error!!!! I look to be on version XI (11.0.03). Problem has gone away - great!!!

It may depend on the plugin that is loaded into your browser. However, right click on a PDF and select the Open With option and go to the default button to select Acrobat as the default. That might do it.

Change the launch default to Adobe Reader 9 (instead of Acrobat 6)?

I have Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat 6 both loaded. Until a week ago I could launch
PDF files in a broswer without difficulty. They would launch in Adobe Reader 9. Now when I try to launch a PDF in a browser Adobe Acrobat 6 launches and I get a message:
"The Adobe Acrobat / Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat version 8/9 is required."
It seems that Acrobat 6 is the default now for PDF files. How do I change the default Adobe Program that launches back to Adobe Reader 9?

Go to any PDF file, Right click it ->Propoerties-> in open with select ADOBE READER 9 and OK...
I hope it will work. Or innopenwith option select reader 9 and click the check box below-"Always use this....."

The application installing 2nd (or later) always asks "whether the user wants to provide default PDF ownership or not" during the installation. (Please also refer to Image attached)
I would like to understand, if there is any common use case where the system decides by itself about the PDF owner when both Acrobat & Reader are installed.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater is the error that jumps up when I try installing it. Currently this system is running Internet Explorer 7 which is installed at it's default location. Any clues what can have gone wrong?

I came upon this post after receiving this error message when trying to install Acrobat 9. In my case, we deploy Acrobat from an Administrative Installation Point (AIP) using Group Policy. I believe the user at this computer pulled the plug while the group policy deployment was taking place. I got the error when trying to install the program manually afterwards.
I was able to rectify the issue by running msiexec.exe against the MSI in the AIP with the /x switch, performing an uninstall:
msiexec /x \\server\deploy\AcrobatStandard9\acrostan.msi
(The program was not showing up in Add/Remove programs, otherwise I would have tried uninstalling from there.) After that, the install proceeded successfully.

Opening .PDF's in IE7 with Adobe Reader 9.0 & Adobe Writer 5.0

I am running a XP Pro environment on a HP D530 machine. I have installed on this PC Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Writer 5.0. I have defaulted through the folder options all .PDF and adobe related files to open in 9.0 and done the normal 'open with' option aswell. Problem is on this internet ticker link i have/use, all the .PDF's posted on there always default to 5.0 and produce a error saying i need to upgrade to a higher version. If i leave 9.0 open then it will default to them without any issue. Is there any regkeys or files in 5.0 or 9.0 i can change so i can set all files to 9.0 Reader?
I have been told the ticker is only used to link to the files and does not have any code that dictates how the .PDF's open.
Any adive or ideas would be of great help! :-)

With Acrobat 7 you can only send out Browser Based Review, (which is replaced by shared reviews in version 9).
The reviewers will need to open the PDF inside a browser, and have access to the location of the PDF to be reviewed.

Useful things to know.
1. This is not considered an upgrade. It's a separate product, and runs separately. You can have both installed (though it's often better not to). This is important because some people buy Acrobat, then run Reader, and wonder why it hasn't changed.
2. You must not purchase an upgrade. When you purchase an upgrade you have already own a version of (paid for) Acrobat. You have to say what version you already own, and this will be checked; you cannot use your purchase of an upgrade version if you don't own an older version.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Insufficient data sent error in Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X

I have an issue that is happening with several users that I support. It is only happening in a specific program that they use. When they open PDFs, they get the message insufficient data sent and then a blank document opens. I noticed that this seemed to be an issue a couple years ago, but it was apparently solved with recent releases of Adobe reader. I have installed and set up Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X, but the results are the same and very intermittent. It can happen when trying to open a document and then not happen 10 seconds later on the same doc. The company that provides the online program blames Adobe. Where do I proceeed from here?

Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro (Editable PDF Combobox Search is not working properly.)

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro. But in editable PDF combobox search is not working properly.
It's only search first character.

My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately.
