Adobe reader 9.1.2: "copies" greyed out under page handling

windows xp pro: sp3
adobe reader 9.1.2
canon faxphone L80 (latest drivers)
When printing from a NON PROTECTED document, the "copies" option is greyed out under page handling.
This issue only applies to the Canon L80 and I can print multiple copies to any other type of printer in my office.
The Canon L80 will allow for multiple copies on every other document application (ie.: MS word) so this issue is isolated to Adobe Reader.
Additionally, this issue appears to have begun with version 8 of Reader, I uninstalled that version and clean reinstalled both the printer driver and Reader to eliminate the possibility of corruped installations.
Canon Technical Support walked through troubleshooting steps and verified that this appears to be an issue with Adobe Reader.
hopefully someone can lend some insight into why this is happening.
Thanks,
-Zack

OK, here is what "export ACRO_PRINT_DEBUG=1" elicits: PPD not found - cupsGetPPD failed.
The miracle of Google search led me to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/395263, where there was no follow-up to the above problem reported by Ernst Schmidt (Feb. 5 2008).  Further search led me to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/395385, where a workround is suggested, but no solution to the "cupsGetPPD failed" problem has been reported.
In my case, /etc/cups/ppd has indeed the right PPD file.  Hence why the "PPD not found" persists is a mystery.  Using the custom printer option, I am still not able to get duplex printing (which was the reason why I was clicking repeatedly on the Properties button).  The printer refused to heed "lp -o sides=two-sided-long-edge" and printed on one side only.  Without specifying any options, my one-sided woes continue, despite /etc/cups/lpoptions containing "Default HP_LaserJet_M2727nf_MFP PageSize=A4 Duplex=DuplexNoTumble".
Bottomline: duplex printing continues to remain elusive.
I am now beginning to wonder if this is an HP problem, rather than Adobe-related.  Nevertheless, "cupsGetPPD failed" is puzzling.

  • Adobe Reader X - Save Button is greyed out

    Hi,
the "Save" Button is greyed out with every PDF File.
File -> Save is also grey
File -> Save as... is functional.
    Where's the Problem?

What I've been doing is using the keyboard command Ctrl+Shift+S, which brings up the Save As... dialog box.
Like thinksink, I receive PDFs by email.  I scan documents using our printer/scanner/fax machine, and it sends the documents to my email account as PDF files.  By default, the documents are named "scan.pdf", and it is inconvenient to type in a different document title before sending.  So, when scan.pdf arrives in my inbox, I open the file to ensure that the document has scanned correctly, and if it has, I save it to the appropriate folder on my drive.
In Reader 9, I could click the Save... button (which was NOT greyed out), and the Save As... dialog box would open.  I think the first time I did that, I was shown a warning that changes to the document could not be saved and if I wanted to save it, I would have to save it to a  file with a different name.  Since this is exactly what I intended to do, everything worked great.  And, I didn't have to see the warning every time because there was a "Don't show me this again" check box.
Another related annoying change from Reader 9 is that Reader X doesn't remember what folder I saved the last document to.  In the Save As... dialog box, the saving process for each document always starts in the temporary folder that Outlook stores attachments in, and I have to work my way through the directory tree to save each file.  This occurs even when I leave the application running and just close the last document.

  • How do I password protect an Adobe Reader file when it is greyed out?

I have several documents that need to be password protected and I am unable to protect them already in Adobe.  I only have Adobe Reader at this time.  Is this possible to do without having to have another version of Adobe?

To add security, you need Adobe Acrobat.

  • I've deleted Adobe Reader 11 and rebooted and reinstalled Adobe Reader 11 and I still get the error message that 'Adobe Reader is blocked because it is out of date'. Using Windows XP with the latest updates (SP3).

Screenshots attached to email replies will not make it back to the forum; you need to login to the forum and post it in your topic using the camera icon in the editor.
    Google Chrome is a problem:
if you use Chrome's own PDF viewer, the results are unpredictable.
if you use the Adobe Reader plugin with Chrome, it may reject (block) it if it is not the latest version.  Reader 11.0.08 is the latest version for Windows XP, but Chrome may insist on the current version 11.0.10.
My suggestion; use a different browser!

    Hi,
Do you have a project open?
if so double click on a sequence and the timeline should appear. Or start a new project if you don't have one open.

    Forgotten RESTRICTIONS Passcode
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard: "remove previous versions" greyed out?

    Hi,
I am preparing an MST, with the Adobe Customization Wizard,  to customize Adobe Reader 9.5.0 setup, and I see the "remove previous versions" checkboxes are both greyed out.
Reader's is blank while Acrobat's is checked - nevertheless, installing over a previous Reader, it correclty replaces it. But what about Acrobat?
Can't I install Reader 9.5.0 on a computer where, i.e., Acrobat Pro 9.4.0 is installed, without removing it?
    thanks,
    fabio

After testing some more, I can see that the greyed-out options are not taken in account at all. Even installing on a computer where the Pro is, it is not removed. I guess these options are only available for Acrobat, then, and not for the Reader.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard X. Remove Previous Greyed out

I need to create an install package for Adobe Reader 10 which remove the previous versions of Reader but retains the versions of Acrobat. This feature is greyed out in the Customization Wizard. How do I get this to work?

By default the installer for Reader will remove any previous versions of Reader. There is a command line switch (REMOVE_PREVIOUS=NO) which can be used to keep the old versions of Reader (which is not recommended by Adobe).
Reader installer will not touch the installation of Acrobat (any versions).
You do not need Customization Wizard if you only want to do this.
With Customization Wizard you can perform other customization like EULA accept, default PDF viewer, installation UI etc.

  • Adobe Reader screen images are fuzzy or out of focus

The screen images in an Adobe Reader document are fuzzy or out of focus.  How can I sharpen them?

    Thanks:
The Fonts & Colours option worked wonderfully for me and now my pages are displaying the colour and images I expected to see. So very simple in the end. Is it related to the current upgrad? At least I will not have to trouble with attempting to revert to an earlier version.

  • New User Question:  How do I enable comments in Reader when this option is greyed out on my menu?

I cannot figure out what I am missing here.  I have a PDF Portfolio completed and now want to E-Mail for Review.  But this option is greyed out on my Comment Menu dropdown list.  What to do?  Thanks!

    Two Places to Check
In iChat in the Video menu (May say Audio) to the right of the Buddies one there is Camera Enabled. It should show a tick next to it.
Next in the View Menu the Show Video Status item also needs a tick.
If those two items are ticked then go to the Apple icon top left > About this Mac > More Info button to open the System Profiler.
Use the reveal Triangles and go to Hardware > USB and see if the camera is listed.

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.6 has taken out my printer drivers

On 12/14/11 I was on my Windows 7 based system when i was sent a pop up window query asking me if I wanted to upgrade to Adobe Reader 9.4.6 I had an earlier version and I get prompts of this nature all the time, so I said yes. Download was protracted, taking 10-15 min. Afterwards I found I could not print documents from any of the other programs I had on that machine, my control panel lists no printers hooked up (like it disabled all the drivers) and attempts to add a driver through the Windows System Wizard just hang up. Any others had this problem? Is this a malware infestation of some kind? The McAfee Security Center software that came with the machine (a recondtioned Dell) hasn't given me any alarms. The program as downloaded takes up 144 MB.

Oddly, it sort of sounds like app behavior under Mac OS X Lion.  Lion has a feature called Resume that puts an app that is launched into the state it was in when it last quit.  So, if certain documents were open when it last quit, those documents would "resume" (re-open automatically) the next time the app is launched.
Now, your profile info says you have a PowerPC iMac running Leopard (and you are posting the "iMac (PPC)" forum), so this should not apply.  But maybe you are running Lion on a newer Mac and your profile info is old.  Or maybe Adobe Reader has been updated to have a restore open documents feature.  In that case, if you accidentally selected all in a folder full of many PDF files and opened them all, and then you quit Reader in that state, that "state" may have been saved for the next time you launched Reader. By closing each document manually, and then quitting Reader, you changed the state when last quit to having no open documents.
If this happens again (in any app), these commands may be useful to know:
There is usually a Close command under the File menu (in the Menu Bar).  If you press the Option key, that command changes to Close All.  So if an app unintentionally opens a very large number of windows (and it is not locked up as a result), you can give the Close All command instead of manually closing each window.
In Lion, if you press (and hold) the Shift key while launching an app, the app launches with a "clean slate" (ignoring the state when it last quit).  I don't know if that would have worked in your case, but it would have been worth a try.  Sorry I did not think of it before; I did not see the possible connection to the Resume feature.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1.0 Error accessing preferences under Mac OSX 10.5.7

On my Intel iMAC under German Mac OSX 10.5.7 or 10.5.6 I can not open the preferences (in German:Voreinstellungen) of Adobe Reader 9.1.0, I am always getting an error:
"Fehler beim Laden einer Anwendungsresource" (Error while accessing a program resource ?)
Updating or re-installing Adobe Reader does not solve the problem. I can open .pdf documents without any error.
    Who can help ?

I had already deleted the preference-file, but still the same error.
There is another problem-report (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1771582#1771582), describing the same problem together with printing-problems.
It turns out, that the filesystem on my internal hard drive (which is formatted case sensitive), is the troublemaker, as described in the 1771582 report, because I also can not install Adobe Photoshop CS3 on this iMac (wrong file system).
It's strange, but ADOBE does not seem to support case sensitive formatted Mac OSX hard-drives, this causing trouble with Adobe Reader and Photoshop CS3 Install.
I will re-format the Internal hard-drive (with no case sensitive) later and let you know the result

  • How do you keyboard scroll an Adobe Reader document the same way as a web page?

When I use the up and down arrows using a browser it simply scroll the page as a whole, not line for line. I can not seem to figure out how to do the same with Adobe Reader. I often have 2 column documents (similar to newspaper width) and find it frustrating scrolling as the cursor jumps around. It's not a smooth transition at all. I am often frustrated with this. How can I fix it? I searched and google and did not find anything. Automatic scroll is the closest I can get it to work. Seems like such a simple task is made complicated.

Windows 7. Document being opened directly with Adobe Reader X 10.1.8.24.
Like I said in the original post I'm using the arrow keys. The page up keys are for scrolling entire pages. I want to smooth scroll as you can with browsers. Can't seem to figure it out. The page keys are choppy and it's easy to loose your place this way. Using the arrow keys only scrows a cursor on the last page the cursor was on. If I skip from page 1 to 10 for example, and my cursor is still sitting on page 1, if I hit the arrow key, it brings me back to page 1.  I experience this on ALL systems using Adobe Reader.
