Adobe Reader 9.3.2 takes over icons

I am attemping to install Adobe Reader 9.3.2 on a new HP TouchSmart, running Windows 7, 64 bit.  Have downloaded and installed the file four times.  Each time that it installs it changes all of the icons on the desktop, task bar, and Start Menu to the Adobe icon.
When I click any of the Icons I get the message "Adobe Reader cannot read this file."    I uninstall Adobe Reader and restart the computer and all icons are restored as they were originally.  Right now I don't have any Adobe Reader.   I have been downloading directly from adobe.com.
Another household member has the same computer with Adobe Reader 9.3.2 which was installed on 4-20-2010.  That computer doesn't have any problem with Adobe Reader.  Does anyone have a clue as to why the problem is occurring?

I have seen the same problem in this forum a couple of times (on Windows Vista and 7 only), but I have never seen a solution for it.
Can you try if Adobe Reader 8.2 does the same?  Download it from here http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.2/enu/AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi
If the same happens with Reader 8.2, then I have no other suggestion than to try an alternate PDF viewer.

    Hello,
How can I give a answer back in the discussion on Adobe.com?
    I don’t see any link?
    1.      We have a subscription.
    2.      Im converting a newsletter from the web to PDF.
    3.      Sometimes I put a weblink behind the image in the newsletter. Most of the time PDF wont take the links behind the image.
    Only the tekstlinks are OK.

  • Android Adobe Reader 11.2.1 has bookmark icon, what does it accomplish?

    1.  Is there an instruction manual for 11.2.1 Android Adobe Reader?
If there was a manual I wouldn't have to ask this question in this forum.
I have looked and looked for a manual and I have concluded I will find the Holy Grail before I find a manual.
    2.  The app has a little tiny bookmark icon at the top.
I can press it and it says in a momentary window at the bottom, that a bookmark was added for that page.
Hooray, I have added a bookmark.
No surely there must be some way to get back to that bookmarked page quickly.  Otherwise, what was the point?
As I scroll through the page that bookmark icon has a barely visible check sign when I am at an already bookmarked page.
As I read the document the menus at the top and bottom go gray after some number of seconds
and that bookmark icon disappears so the check mark is not visible.  Though as small as it is it's essentially un-useful
except to tell me that I have already placed a bookmark at the page I am currently viewing.
It appears that once I have used that icon to add a bookmark there is nothing else I can do with that bookmark.
I have found no way to view a list of bookmarks.
I have found no way to quickly navigate back to that bookmark.
All I can do is touch the area at the top and bottom so as to display those
top and bottom menus and then observe whether that tiny little icon has an even tinier check mark in it or not.
Surely there must be something else I can do with a bookmark.
Why else would Adobe bother to actually write software for such a function if there wasn't anything to use it for?
Or perhaps this is an experimental new feature that hasn't been completed?
Again, a manual that explained how to use this software would be useful.
And if the function is experimental and not yet fully functional I am sure a good manual would point that out.

  • Adobe Reader 9.3 takes over icons on Windows 7 Desktop

This has repeated 4 times (downloaded 9.3 and installed) since I got a new laptop two months ago.  All icons become unusable with error SC_Reader.ico.   Adobe help was call but since this is a free product, no help was provided.  I have had several other technical support people help me with no results.  The only way to get back my normal functions with the desktop icons is to uninstall Adobe.  I am now us FOXIT for a pdf files and it works well.

You aren't by any chance talking about this same problem?

  • Acrobat Reader 8.1.12 takes over Vista desktop and windows apps

Install is good, but 90% of my desktop icons become acrobat reader icons. If I double click on one of the icons - a message reads "acrobat cannot open 'pgmname'.exe not supported file format etc. etc. (pgmname is the application I'm trying to open). I un-installed 8.1.12 and everything is fine. I re-installed today and the same thing happens. I have a Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium. I believe this started after I installed XPSEP Vista 32bit. I needed this to print invoices from Quickbooks.

It changes all of my MS office 2007 icons to look like Acrobat icons and then tries to launch adobe instead of my office application such as my outlook I get the following error message
    c:programfiles\.......reader\Eula.exe
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel"
Please help!!!! I have checked all the associations and they are correct.

That is not something that should happen.
What I would try in your situation is a repair install of Office (Add/Remove Programs; select Microsoft Office, then use the Change button to perform the repair install).

  • Adobe Reader taking over my Desktop

After installing Adobe Reader, my desktop is "taken over" by Adobe. The Reader doesn't work nor any other icons.
All the icons show Adobe.  I have uninstalled the Reader. Using Win7.  Help please.

    Try running: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

  • Adobe Reader stuck installing

Have een trying to install Adobe Reader on my iPhone for over a week.  It says it is installing, but that is all that happens.  Can't abort or finish.

Some reviewers are reporting that their Reader for iOS install is stuck during download or install. We have not seen this, so if it is happening to you, we would like to get in touch to try to diagnose the issue. We believe the problem is with the Apple update process and would like to help them diagnose it. Below, I've pasted an email address that you can use to share this information with us as well as a set of steps that many users have followed to successfully restart their update.
Please provide us with the information and acknowledge that you consent to our sharing the information that you provide to us with Apple.
Please send an email to [email protected] if you are experiencing this issue with the following information:
    Device Type:
    OS Version:
    Wifi or 3g:
We find that the following steps nearly always resolve the problem:
Make sure wifi and/or cellular data are turned on
Test to be sure your internet connection is working by opening safari and browsing to a website (like www.adobe.com).
Single tap the app’s icon on the home screen and it will pause the download. Now go back to the iTunes Apps store, switch to the “Updates” screen and click “Update” to resume the download.
If this doesn't work,  go to Settings -> iTunes & App Stores and tap the Apple ID to sign-out. Restart the iPad, go back to Settings -> iTunes Apps Store and sign-in. Tap the waiting icon to update the app.
Most users are successful by step 3. Please let us know if this does or does not work by emailing [email protected] and thanks for your patience!

  • How do I move a file from "Recents" in Adobe Reader for Android to a folder in "Documents"?

How do I move a file from "Recents" in Adobe Reader for Android to a folder in "Documents"?
Files from Google Drive are appearing in "Recents" where I cannot organize them hierarchically.
I cannot find a user manual for Adobe Reader for Android with this level of detail.

    Hi John,
Files opened via Google Drive are not listed in ‘Documents' section of Adobe Reader, because they are read only files. If you really want to save these files to ’Documents' then please follow below steps -
Open the file from Google drive in Adobe Reader.
Tap on the Comment icon placed at top toolbar(Second icon from the beginning)
You would encounter a 'Read-Only document’ dialog, tap on Save button.
Once you performed above steps , your file will be saved in /Download/Adobe Reader/ folder.
Hope this will solve your problem.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Reader 9 and Mac OSX 10.5 - FDF Issue

I have an issue that only happens when using Adobe Reader 9 and Mac OSX 10.5.
When submitting a form from within a PDF, the FDF that gets sent is completely blank.
Tested on Mac OSX 10.4 with Adobe Reader 9 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSX 10.5 with Adobe Reader 8 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSC 10.5 with Adobe Professional 8 - no issue
It only seems to be a combination of OSX 10.5 and Reader 9. Does anyone have any clue about the settings of these two and what might be happening?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mac OS 10.4.11: I could not open pdf docs today (12-24-08), uninstalled & installed Adobe Reader 9.0.0. pdf docs icons changed but open, however cannot open Reader from Applications and get: Adobe Reader
    Version 9.0.0
    Installing/fixing installation
Then immediately get this error message:
Adobe Reader could not install correctly.
Adobe Reader was unable to install a necessary component
    and must quit.
Any help out there for me?
    Thanks, Tony

  • Reader X - opening PDF takes 2 minutes, while in Reader 9 it's instant

I have several LifeCycle 8 ReaderEnabled PDFs. When I open them with Acrobat Reader 8 or 9, they opens nearly instantly.  Opening it under Reader X takes around 2 minutes.  Other PDFs open instantly.  I Save-As'd one of the PDFs hoping it would update the document format but it still takes 2 minutes to open.  Suggestions?

Version 10.0.0, 64-bit  Pressing F1 or clicking on Help->Adobe Reader X Help also takes 2 minutes.  It pegs both cores to 50%/ea and the window is marked as "(Not Responding)" for a solid 2 minutes until the web page opens.  This delay occurs while *any* PDF document is opened.
