Adobe Reader 9 breaks Filemaker links

Hello Forums,
Windows XP SP3 systems running FileMaker Pro 10, with Adobe Reader 9.
The FileMaker databases have several links to Adobe PDF files stored on our shared server.  The users updates to adobe reader 9.5 this morning, and rebooted whem prompted.  Once rebooted, the machines would no longer link correctly to the PDF files.
The Adobe Reader update was the only change made to these computers, and have broken the functionality of opening the files.
I had the users update the links in Filemaker.  They are able to recreate the links, and it does work.  However, the functionality has changed.  Before, it would just open the document.  Now, the user is being prompted to open or save the file, instead of opening the file directly.
What changes were made in the 9.5 update that would cause this type of behavior?
EDIT:
Updating to say that this does work - if Adobe Reader is opened first.  Quite strange, as before, it would come right up.
I woud still like to hear any solutions or further details on the update, and what might have happened.

Hello,
I also have Reader 9.5.0 on my machine and it directly opens the PDF document in the browser without prompting for "Open or Save the file". Can you go to following preference in your Adobe Reader : Edit -> Preferences -> Internet pane under categories and check whether the "Display PDF in browser" checkbox is checked or not. If this checkbox is unchecked then only you'll be prompted for "Open or Save the PDF file" option. So, please check this checkbox and click OK. Now, you should try to open PDFs in browser.
Can you also provide me one of the links which are now no longer linked correctly to the PDF files in your FileMaker?

  • Adobe Reader X Help internet link

Hi, could anyone let me know how to fix the problem in Adobe Reader X when you click Help from the menu bar followed by Adobe Reader X Help.  Instead of taking you to an Adobe help page via a web browser, you get the error; "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet" message.
I have uninstalled X and installed Adobe Reader 9 and this works fine and connects to the web.  I have read the link from vilcanator back in Jan 2011 which the reply takes you to
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/reader/using/reader_X_help.pdf which is for a local saved copy of the help file.
However, surely the online help link should work otherwise updates to the help document will not be updated on the downloaded pdf copy.  This has been tested on XPSP3 and W7 Prof, and in IE8 and 9.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
F1 brings up the exact same message for me, "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet".  The message appears within Adobe Reader X.  It doesn't reach the browser at all.
When I click Help from the menu bar followed by Adobe Reader X Help, it will take around 5 seconds to have a think, and then show the message.  I've used the setup assistant to set to default and no change.  In Preferences, the Web browser Options for the Internet are all ticked,

  • Adobe Reader 9.4 download links have been removed

I'm trying to obtain a copy of Adobe Reader 9.4 to perform an offline installation, but all the direct download links have been removed.  All attempts to download the installation media keep redirecting me to a page that requires installation an ActiveX control.   My company blocks the execution of all ActiveX controls for security reasons.  None of the Adobe KB articles contain anything useful to resolve this issue (my internet connection and browser are working just fine, thank you).
Can someone please help me with a simple download link (on the Adobe website) for Reader 9.4 for Windows?
    Thank you in advance

  • Downloading Adobe Reader from distribution licence link - 404 page not found

I have recently applied for the Adobe distribution licence for Adobe Reader. This was successful, shortly after applying I received an email with the licence attached and a download link for Adobe Reader XI, The problem is the link doesn't work I just get 404 page not found, the link I cannot put on here as the licence will be broken.
    For full installers:
To download the English language version of Adobe Reader XI with Acrobat.com in compressed .exe format, click here.
You may not share the above link, share information with others, or publish the above link on websites, blogs, or by any other means that can be publicly accessed. The information contained on this site is meant for your use only in accordance with the Adobe Reader Distribution License Agreement you accepted. You may direct others to http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/rdr_distribution1.html to request distribution rights.
What i need to know is can anyone (from Adobe) send me a replacement link, can I re-apply for the licence to get another link or even better under this licence can I download the software from Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions instead. I have contacted Adobe chat support who directed me to phone support, phone support flat out refused to help and said the only support would be via this forum.
Hopefully someone here can answer my questions.
    Thanks all.

Brilliant thanks, I see nothing wrong with downloading from here, it even states "In order to distribute Adobe Reader software you need to have a valid Adobe Reader Distribution Agreement in place" which I do.
    Thanks again ~graffiti

  • Adobe Reader Windows Phone Download Link

    Hey guys,
For iOS / Android users - browsing to get.adobe.com/reader/ redirects the user to the Application Store for the platoform so they can download Adobe Reader.  However, browsing this link fails when using a Windows Phone - it doesn't redirect the user to the windows phone store.
    Thanks,

  • Accidentally blocked a link in Adobe Reader X?

Hi guys, when clicking on a link in a PDF file (the Flex Hero Release Notes PDF), I was prompted by Adobe Reader X about the link I clicked about to open. I accidentally clicked the middle button of that alert which I believe instructs Adobe Reader X to block the link. Unfortunately, the checkbox where it states that the action is remembered is checked. So my problem is, I can't visit the URL anymore because Adobe Reader X blocks it. I searched the Preferences but can't seem to find the option to remove blocked URLs.

    Hi,
You can change the access to the specified URL through the following steps:
    1. Goto Edit > Preferences
    2. On the left pane click on "Trust Manager"
    3. Click on "Change Settings" button on the right window pane.
    4. In the "Web Sites" section, you will be seeing all the URL's to which user has granted or blocked access. Click on the respective URL (eg bugs.adobe.com) and click on "Delete" button above and close all Dialogs by clicking OK. This will enable Adobe Reader X to prompt for the new action to be taken when trying to access the respective URL.
    Hope this solves your issue.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Reader "Link in plugin browser"

    Hello,
I view a PDF in the browser Internet Explorer.
This pdf contains a number of links.
Each of these links opens a pdf document, other than that of departure, to a certain page in the same browser window.
Instead of positioning the page indicated, the document is opened to the first page.
The method used for opening the pdf to a specific page is the following:
I tried several solutions, including javascript, with the same result.
    May depend on what?
    Greetings and Thank you.

Yes you can link to the official download page for Adobe Reader, see the below link for Adobe's rules on logo usage:
    http://www.adobe.com/legal/permissions/icons-web-logos.html
You cannot host the installer package on your own website.

  • Adobe Reader won't read video links in e-book

I've downloaded several training ebooks.  These books are designed to be used with Adobe Reader.  They have links in them to training videos.  However, when I open these books in Reader 11.0.2 the video links in the book do not appear.  Others who have these books and use a Macbook Pro like me say that it works fine for them.  What do I do?  I need to use these books badly for training.
    Dave

What is your operating system?  Reader XI version?
I never had any problems with opening links; try if this test PDF behaves the same way: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/d84f26d4-f71e-42f8-a5dd-36bfda65ae25

  • Saving form field data with Adobe Reader and Java script.

We would like to create some customized PDF documents with pre filled form  fields for our customers. The documents will also have extended Java script  functionality to check some entered data and to save the form data to a local  disk.
Our customers will need to click on their personalized link on our web page  and then download a pdf document with personal pre filled form fields  specifically for that customer.  From our site the PDF file will be dynamically  created and partly filled out with our web application. (The application uses an  external PDF library for the pdf creation).
They would then need to be able to edit the form fields and save/export  them as a pdf whilst offline.
The saving/exporting of the data should be implemented by the extended Java  Script functionality (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/js_developer_guide.pdf). Once the data has been edited they will send the pdf file directly back to  us.
The issue we have is with regarded to teh EULA for Acrobat Reader. If we  create those documents with an external application is the user allowed to open  those PDF files with his Adobe Reader without breaking the Adobe Reader  Restrictions in the EULA for the Reader?  (http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Reader_Player_AIR_WWEULA-Combined-20080204_1313.pdf, chapter 3.2 Adobe Reader  Restrictions)

    Hello,
the problem which I have pertains only to the Adobe Reader. Because
our user will use Adobe Reader to open our pdf documents but it looks
like that the EULA for the Reader doesn't allow the user to open pdf
files which have the extended option to save data out of the form
fields unless!! this feature was created by an adobe product. But I
created the pdf file not with Adobe. So I don't want our user be punished...
It is actually a question of the law? departement of Adobe. But there
    is no Forum for that
Or could you please forward my forum question to somebody of this department.
I don't want to publish a product where the user breaches the EULA
every time they are opening it
    Regards
    Niels

  • About Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader

    Hi folks,
    Archlinux 86-64 2007-08-2
    SeaMonkey 1.1.6,
I need to install Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader
    I found following link;
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _on_Arch64
But not for Seamonkey.  Does it work on Seamonkey.  Besides it's flash plugin.  Would it be the same as Adobe Flash Player?
Does 32bit Adobe Reader works on 64bit Seamonkey.  Where can I download it?  Where can I find its installation document?
    TIA

it looks like the package didn't build.  Go back to your nspluginwrapper directory and run

as your user, if this completes successfully it should create a file called something like
    nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.5-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
probably in the current directory.  It may fail initially due to unsatisfied dependencies but you should be able to install them using pacman since I think all the lib32- stuff is in [Community] now.

  • Adobe reader quit working and won't open

Hi...  I have been running Adobe Reader 8 on an XP machine for quite a while with no problem.  Suddenly Adobe Reader quit opening.  When I double click on the icon, nothing happens.  When I open a PDF file nothing happens.  It just won't do anything. This is my bosses computer, so I am not sure what he may have accidentally done to create the problem.  I can usually fix whatever mistakes he makes, but I am at a loss on this one.
I have tried uninstalling adobe reader and reinstalling several times.  I have tried versions 9 and 10 as well, but I have the same result.  The uninstall and reinstall process seems to run fine and I get a message at the end that adobe reader x.x was installed successfully.  Then the program fails to open.  I have also tried running the program through another admin user account, but this does not help either.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Claudio...  I tried your suggestion.  I ran the fixit program from microsoft.  This ran fine, of course it is focusing on problems with installation and uninstallation.  I tried both ways.  I found a dictionary pack for adobe reader 8 that was still installed.  I removed it and let the fixit program fix any problems.  It did it's thing, so I downloaded the full installer for adobe reader 10 from the link.  I restarted the computer and installed adobe reader from the download after rebotting.  Again, the installation seemed to work fine.  No problems were indicated.  Then when I double click the icon to open the program, I get an hourglass for about 2 seconds then nothing.  It just does not open.  I have tried opening it several ways to no success.
I really need this to work, but short of wiping the hard drive and reloading everything I am at a loss.  Are there any alternatives out there to adobe reader?  We routinely use several websites that require adobe reader to function properly.
    Thanks again...

  • When I try to install adobe reader, no "yelloe Bar" with an "allow" option appears

I am trying to install adobe reader and the firefox instructions say a yellow Bar will appear with an option to "allow" the download. No such bar appears

Ignore those instructions. You just need to download the setup file from Adobe and run it to install Adobe Reader.
A direct link for the setup file for the English Windows version of Adobe Reader 9.3.4 is http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3.4/enu/AdbeRdr934_en_US.exe

    HOW CAN I DO THAT????

    Hi william george dunbar,
Please download the installation file of Adobe Reader XI from the link below:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Once you download the installation file, you can copy the file to USB stick and install it on any computer.
